Clearing an Isekai With the Zero-Believers Goddess – the Weakest Mage Among the Classmates (LN)

Makoto Takatsuki is a normal high school student and a hardcore RPG player.

However, “normal” goes out the window when his whole class is involved in a bus crash and whisked away to another world! Powerful gods rule this strange new land of magic and monsters, and every newcomer is blessed with strong stats and unique skills.

Well, not quite. Makoto’s stats turn out to be pathetic, and his skills are super weak compared to his classmates’…he’s even stuck as an apprentice mage. Worse still, he’s given only ten years to live!

Luckily, Makoto soon meets a minor goddess named Noah, who appears in Makoto’s dreams and asks him to become her first believer. With the help of Noah’s blessings and a divine weapon, Makoto seeks to become strong enough to rescue his goddess from the dungeon where she’s been trapped.

By training hard and using his weak skills in unorthodox ways, Makoto proves that, even when playing on hardcore difficulty, an RPG player always makes it to the end!

I just created this account to make a review of this novel. Please bear with my grammar and spelling mistakes if there are any.

This story is a MASTERPIECE

So this novel may at the start, give off the impression of a cliche JP novel where the MC has the weakest stats and then gets thrown off by his classmates in a forest or dungeon then goes to have a revenge trip. It’s not like that. It’s much, much better

Our main character here is not overpowered ... more>>
Spoiler

but he will be with some conditions

[collapse]
I think its entirely normal to be indecisive about these things about romance and who to pick among them since he likes them all.

After that is his abilities. I’m quite dissapointed at the most liked review here because you can see just how much they love cheat powers with one hit ko matches. I personally like it much better when they utilize all of their iq in trying to figure out how to defeat the enemy. If you come here expecting to see that, gtfo cause you won’t enjoy this. His abilities are weak but given the right conditions they are strong. The opposite is also true given that putting him in a situation with no water or desert and instantly becomes the weakest. His reaction speed and agility are the slowest and only his magic compensates for it. He didn’t get strong by recieving his abilities tho. He has to continuously work hard and he trains like a maniac day and night so that he wouldn’t be left out in the party. He defeats his opponent with sheer luck and help of others which only proves his immense reliance on others.
Spoiler

His main ability which is spirit magic is unique in the sense that its extremely hard to use. Its mainly relies on the proficiency of the user to use it properly. Unlike other magic, you also need to fulfill conditions such as the area where you’re fighting, whether the spirits are in the mood to lend you their strength, if the enemy is a Titan or a Holy God. There are lot of things to consider which balances out its OPness.

[collapse]

The side characters here are not like mob characters which you forget the next arc. They feel realistic and act realistic just like how normal people do. The members of the harem fell in love with him with plot that makes sense unlike other novels where the heroine falls in love by being saved and blushes when called cute. They have understandable reasons to like him. The goddess is cunning and her actions adds spice to the mystery. The best friend is nice and smart as well. He doesn’t rely on MC and is not just there because of plot.

The story doesn’t just revolve around the MC where nothing changes even after a year. It’s cohesive and just makes sense. Other complaints I have seen is that the RPG components of the game, namely the level, power, etc. Are not explained. The thing is, why do you still need to show that if the MC doesn’t use his other stats? He only relies on his proficiency since his stats aside from it, as explained in the novel, don’t go up. No matter how much he trains his body, his strength will still be the same. The leveling system loses its purpose if it doesn’t show any changes which is why only the proficiency is shown.

Next is character development. So given the words itself, our MC develops right? The thing is, expecting him to change immediately is abnormal. I’ve seen comments here where they complain about how he acts so beta and the thing is, they will be resolved later in the story.
Spoiler

You complained about him being indecisive regarding his harem? Worry not cause he will accept them all later! You worried about him not making a move on the girls? Worry not as he will intentionally grope their b**bs later.

[collapse]
Like would you at least try to read and PROPERLY COMPREHEND half of the story before saying that it doesn’t make sense.

That’s just my main points regarding this because I’ve been irritated at others who read this and didn’t understand the story. That’s just your problem.
Spoiler

btw I’ve been reading the rest of the story at JPMTL which has like bullsh*t translation and I can still follow the story

[collapse]
This novel is a definitely a banger for those looking for novels with interesting plot.

P.s

The translation of this novel by Reigokai is superb and he uploads fast consistently and I just want to say ty for translating this. I might not have ever discovered this gem if not for you and ty for that. Best wishes for you :) <<less

So far this looks like a promising JP novel to pass time between your favorite isekai/fantasy novels. It has potential to get better or worse depending on how dense the MC is in the future and how much the harem grows. I don't mind harem if there is polygamy tag and even slightly insecure MC is okay... BUT indecisive MC that is dense to the surrounding girls and their feelings is just disappointing. If you put a harem around MC then please make it actual harem and not just hang... more>> around two dimensional side character girls!

There is now a goal in the distant future for MC that he can use as motivation to get stronger. I think there is a lot of options for the author in how the MC can get stronger, so overall I'm slightly optimistic.

In a nutshell: If you have read some JP isekai novels you can somewhat expect what you are getting into. Nothing spectacular but also nothing really cringe worthy imho. The tags will help you figure out the rest.

And if you read this far I think you deserve to know that I think the description gives a bit too panicky feeling for the MC. I mean he is cool as a cucumber with his 'calm mind' skill and so far he has never considered himself unable to clear the challenge of freeing the goddess. On the contrary the way I see it he accepted it as interesting challenge even though he acknowledges the fact that he has a lot of flaws. <<less

It's pretty worth reading. Makoto (MC) is dense, but the women make up for it by being much more aggressive in the LN. Makoto himself also is more proactive in developing his harem (unintentionally though...). Makoto himself is strong, and his own powers rely on certain circumstances. There's a good reason the WN version is #1 in activity.

This one is really hard to recommend, because the whole concept is pretty neat, guy gets reincarnated in another world with his class but is the only one with shitty skills and even worse stats than the average joe in that world. Make no mistake because this is your average fantasy novel about your underdog that becomes s*upidly strong anyways, but since it has a pretty clear goal since the very beginning and you know that the MC needs to become that s*upidly strong or he will fail, it's actually... more>> not a problem, especially because for once the powers he get are never risk-free. And his friends are all some of the nicest people, so it doesn't go to the revenge p*rn route either after being abandoned.

So what's the issue? The issue is the romance aspect of the novel. He has several girls that want him, and go at it very aggresively. The problem is that it never goes anywhere. The writing is inconsistent, because the MC seems to be aware of it at times, but sometimes he's just dense so that everyone can call him names and be the bu*t of the joke. Every time one of the girls makes a pass, they get interrupted. Every. Single. Time. Multiple times per volume. And it goes from simply the other girls saying "NOT CUTTING IN LINE" to the most baffling, random events. It's like a recurring gag that doesn't make you laugh. There's no reason behind it except padding every volume. So you go from being interested in the plot to having these scenes forced to you and internally groaning because they're awful and serve no purpose.

It doesn't help that the author doesn't really know how to write the girls, so it's like the approach the MC, you get blue balled, and then they "go shopping" together and then you get back on track with the plot. How many times can a girl go shopping in a fantasy medieval-setting world? They don't even really get different outfits either in the art, and they're not greedy girls or anything, so it's just a convinient excuse to get rid of them because women = shopping.

But yeah, if you can look past that, the plot itself gets pretty interesting. <<less

one of my favorite novel and I didn't even get bored when I re-read it :D

MC is a bit dense, but not that bad. At least he isn't denial bout his harem. At last arc he aknowledge that he had a LOT of girlfriend.

MC is like godou from campione, he is OP and have a lot of broken ability, but he need "right" situation to use his power

... more>> tho once he show his power, it's usually gonna be one man show of his power.

btw I love how this author often insert "hint" in early chap :D <<less

I like the fact that the MC is kinda a sociopath.

It can also come over as dense, but it's just that he is also socially awkward. So he doesn't do anything with it. Good thing the girls are aggressive.

If the MC gets to choose left path or right path.

Left being a save pass.

And right being the dangerous path.

And both are even long. He choose right just to see where to goes.

This novel can be a master piece. If the author developing the character properly (not just develop the MC power). To not make thing complicated, I will summarize a bit. The MC (Makoto) are diligent but dense (at understanding woman) and slow (at taking a quick decision). He have so many life and death journey before. But it's does not change how he is and in my opinion. It's useless to have so many experience, if the MC does not show his grown.

Quick review. Look at the other reviews for something more indepth.

The nonsensical yuri sh*t brings the score down.

A fun series overall. Interesting way to explain MC's sociopathic tendencies. Watching him go on his quest to free his goddess was great. Lots of ups and downs in the journey towards it. The battles are pretty exciting. The romance is the weakest part of the series. (Refer to first line of the review)

One thing that's off to me about it is the strange pacing of the story. It might not actually... more>> be the case, but the story seems to move too fast. Like it could've used an extra volume. <<less

This story is by no means unique. It has the typical premise of being an isekai with the "I'm really weak because of my skills but I want to get stronger" trope. My biggest gripe is that there are too many love interests. In the beginning the characters are compelling and you enjoy the journey you go alongside them. By the end there are so many love interests and characters that they begin to lose their uniqueness and no longer feel real. This is a common issue with harem stories... more>> and this story is one that is unable to overcome it. Even so, it can be compelling at times. There was an arc that made me ugly cry and another that gave me goosebumps and made me giddy. It has it's downfalls but it also has great moments. For that reason I will still say this is a highly recommended read. <<less
