Every drop of this family bloodline is stained with sin. They are the embodiment of contradiction; calm yet maniacal, with great memories yet often forgetful. They pledge themselves to their dreams yet often compromise, are angels that are also devils… It’s why I hate them. And also love them.

The only hope of his family, a youth with the blood of elves and demons walks on a battleground of annihilation and rebirth. He wills his way through boiling lava and icy depths, killing on this field of despair to strike down the lofty figure in his sight. It is the best half-start of a novel I read.

And one of the best fights, the author has an incredible talent for developing events.

An important thing to say is: This is the first or one of the first novels by the author, this is also the reason why the ending was not very good. (He was a little lost, lack of experience)

The novel has several elements, several pars, and the author lost himself with so many things at the end of his novel, but he never lacked talent, without... more>> a doubt the best author I have ever read. <<less

One of the best chinese novel.

All elements of a masterpiece can be found here. Character development, redemption arc, internal struggle, good power system, massive world building,... even with the lack of goal, the novel still shines brightly.

Vol 1 of this novel is increadibly misleading. MC (10 year old) feel really robotic and a spoon-fed young master. He is also very introvert and has no charismatic at all. It is still acceptable, but the plot overall feel dull and boring. Personally, I feel MC is just a typical op young master... more>> that can only be a side-char at best.

From vol 2, his character development arc finally kick in with the apperance of the best waifu flowsand. And boy, how wonderful it could be. Seeing him tranform to a dragon among men is awesome.

See the tag "tragedy"? It is the main theme of the latter part in this novel. Vol 1 give us the illusion that MC is op and can eventually beat everyone. But this is not how his world work. There is no miracle, no sudden power up, no cheating. His achivement may be great, but it is nothing in the eye of true powerhouse. The power ceiling is so high that we reader dont see any different when MC lv up. Many people he love and care for die right in front of his eye but he cant do anything because he is currently so weak compared to these thousand year old monster.

And the more he grow, the more responsibilities he has. Many people place their loyality and also their life on him. Every desions he make affect the life of many people inportant to him. Sometime he success, sometime he loses, but casualty is guarantee. It is depressing, really.

Overall, this is a complicated and mature novel. <<less

I don't know how, but the story gets boring and boring and maybe this novel is good for some people but not for me, the only difference between this novel and other novels is that the MC does not start from the lowest plane like most protagonists in xinxia or other wuxia novels im almost drop this novel but because it's already halfway so all at once to finish reading it P

Story was very versatile interesting and mystical at the beginning with a not so crazy OP curve, but just enough to keep me interested.

The novel did get really repetitive in the middle portions with all the warring and solders and what not. I ended up skimming tens of chapters throughout to barely miss anything.

The world building was great along with the foreshadows and as a nice added bonus the romances played out pretty well (I kept reading to see what happens to the harem members), not all happy endings though.

The... more>> ending felt rushed and the author seemed to just want to wrap everything up it felt like it was missing something. I pretty much predicted all the foreshadows. Overall good read, kept me occupied and much better than the majority of tr*sh novels out there AND its completely translated so you get some closure and don't have to wait weeks/months to see the end of an arc <<less

I've only read up to the end of volume 8

i personally believe the middle of the story is the most enjoyable to read, the MC isn't weak but he isn't too strong to destroy everything in his path.

There is only one volume left until the story finishes and for me that feels waaaaay too short, since there is so much we don't know by this point.

The personalities of characters can either be inconsistent or non existent at times, with character sometimes doing stuff that makes no sense. I personally read... more>> this for the story because that's mainly what this LN has going for it

I personally feel the MC become strong out of nowhere but I can't remember which point that's at. But that might just be me. I also don't understand why Richard uses the eternal dragon or whatever it's called and the broodmother when he's been constantly told how dangerous they are.

I do recommend you read this though. They are a lot of unique points to this story but there's a LOT of battling and fighting, so it mostly depends on your personal taste. <<less

Aka: Book 7, Chapter 124

Shortened Review

Initial Setting/Concept: 6/10 Interesting

... more>> World Building Onwards: 8/10 Very Good

Plot Development: 5/10 Standard

Main Character Introduction: 7/10 Sympathetic

Main Character Development: 3/10 Arrogant

Side Characters' Introduction: 7/10 Unique Personalities

Side Characters' Development: 1/10 One Dimensional (Just like this score)

Overall: 5.28/10 -> 2.64/5 Rounded to 3 Stars

(Surviving on world building alone pretty much)

To put it bluntly: You know those isekai stories where the MC gets cheat-like abilities, dominates the competition, and then grows a giant diehard fan-base of followers? Yea... Take the rebirth bit out and that is the story you're left with. In hindsight, I'd dare say that this is even worse because the author attempts to trick you into thinking this is normal fantasy before handing the protagonist game-like analytic abilities.

Was it enjoyable at first? Yea it was. But then it got repetitive to the point where you know every antagonist is lacking in intelligence or is using "primitive" equipment/knowledge to the point where their intelligence or strength doesn't matter.

And speaking of strength... The author seems to only be able to focus on one side of the story. Essentially what I mean by this is that while the MC and friends become progressively stronger, everyone else acts like they're frozen in time until the MC comes to inevitably whoop their asses.

Overall, again in hindsight, this is just like every other power fantasy novel. So if thats your thing... Have at it and enjoy I guess... <<less

I hate this novel... It started out so well I liked everything even the parts I hated cause they made sense for example his first love I totally hated that sh*t but I understood why he acted like that and got over her, now the part I don't get is why he almost killed and got killed for her ? He almost got killed just to sleep with her? Moving on it gets better again but then some chick named Rose joins the story but it's still cool then the... more>> issue starts when he captures some guy named Raymond Joseph and he decides to keep him alive with the reason of " I want him to suffer and see just how he can cause problems for my life" guess what due to keeping him alive the MCs master ends up in a situation she almost dies, his daughter basically gets her body hijacked by someone and his main source of resources gets jeopardized.... All due to his stranfe arrogance total B's I'll still read it but I'm not happy... And please stop neglecting waterflower <<less

I've been reading novels for the last 10 years and I have say this is one of the most infuriating novels I've ever read.

There's a lot of good thing compared to the common wuxia novel, antagonists are not 1 -dimension characters, wordbuilding, relationships, politcs are nice and the author for a good part of the novel knew how to write about the emotions of the characters.

On the bad side, MOST of the women around the MC were ABSOLUTELY butchered, they didn't get any attention as the novel went on and... more>> this happened with most secondary characters. Author created very interesting characters and simply forgot about them in the next book. Some reviews also said that plane wars were the best they had seen, but it was average compared to other novels here.

The worst thing of this novel is undoubtedly the MC, he acted as a irresponsible brat, a shounen protagonist for the most part of the whole novel. Instead of having balls and taking on his responsabilities and paying the price for his actions, he let others do that for him, his women. I've never find a MC so disappointing in all the novels I've read to completion, trully infuriating, a arrogant, irresponsible brat to the end.

The end was also not satisfactory, a bit rushed but it didn't leave a good taste. Everything was basically butchered and there was no emotional depth that had at the beginning of the novel.

Don't recomend this novel at all. <<less

I came across this novel multiple times in the past, but skipped after seeing reviews about the MC's cuck tendencies and how the author wants to bring in so much cuckoldry in the novel and so on.

After completing the novel, I can confidently say this is complete bullshit. The novel is absolutely incredible and markedly different from typical Chinese web novels. The MC doesn't have any exaggerated cheat abilities and the story is not one-dimensional. The MC is not perfect, even important characters don't have unbreakable plot-armor. The story can... more>> get a little complicated at times, and a lot of the battles are strategic as opposed to a One Punch man OP MC, and that's what makes it fun!!

Interactions with females here are, in my opinion, how things would work in a society where power means everything. There are multiple powerful female characters who are not just pretty, and it's not like many other novels where once the MC sleeps with the girl, they lose all their personality. There are many powerful female characters who aren't magically 1000 year old virg*ns waiting for the MC, but at least no one the MC slept with sleeps with someone else afterwards.

Now, my view about the controversial cuck portions with as little spoilers as possible:

Spoiler

There are two instances. One is with the MC as a teenager. Sure, his enemy tries to destroy his motivation by sleeping with this girl he is a little attracted to (not GF) but that's a small bit, and he gets over it quite quickly. If anything, it shows how an innocent teenager gets more mature. No cuck tendencies.

Then there is one part where the MC breaks up a couple and takes a girl as a partner. Some family requirement crap. And then the MC vanishes for years. He has no feelings for the girl, and she was the unfortunate victim there. She does meet her ex sometimes, but never sleeps with the guy from start to end. And both of them gets punished by the MC brutally for that too.

I really don't see how the MC has cuck tendencies in any of this.

It Just gets worst.

2.5/5

I started reading it because of how majority of reader absolutely loved this book. It started out great, A bit dark and gritty, but absolutely great. Felt like I was reading a western book. But by the time I was done with book 6 I had enough of it.
The book is absolutely good, but a number of factors made it less and less appealing as time passed..
1. Biggest of the all is how he f””ks everything. EVERYTHING. I won’t spoil it too much but it just gets worse when everyone is just out to f him and he happily obliges.
2. He will suddenly have to face one problem after another. Not even after. He is already facing 4 problems and the 5th one pops out with not even one if them solved. He solves 2 and another 5 pops out. Just endless problems.
3. Imagine him having 10 enemies. And out of those, he kills 1 like 2-3 books later, forgets/ignores 3 of them because they are too week, and kills the last 5 in the last 50 chapters. It was soo infuriating how he would let them go and they bite him in the ass later. Just disappointing.
If some parts of the story (The mystery of a lot of things, The Planner wars) and the writing were not so good I wouldn’t even give this a 2 star. Most of the useless face slapping novels at least dealt with their enemies better than this book.

It's basically another novel where cuck fetishes can come out and be written as if it wasn't netorare just because the ambiance it is written in is western style. Just f*cking disgusting. Never had a churning stomach. More than anything, never saw a non shounen ai or yaoi novel have such a need for MC to slap another's man buttocks. It was just genuinely disgusting.

And before there is some other reviews targeting me, no, a novel is not supposed to 'only' have bad sh*t once, remember SAO? Yeah that's right.

This... more>> is NOT tragedy.

Sometimes in xianxia/xuanhuan novels, there is this plot where a close one with MC is taken forcibly, either by interest on her potential or just by some horrifying reason. Either way is just another way to construct plot, a plot device. In Immortal Mortal, this happens to the MC's maid who's always been caring for him and doing the best of her until she gets back home completely spent. She never prostituted herself in any way and sometimes they got helped by another poor old woman which gave them bowls of rice. When they go to test their talent, she gets discovered right away by someone that can see from afar someone's potential. She gets taken away and quite some dozen chapters later he founds the woman who took her. She was covering her body so he didn't know that she was disfigured. When he confronted her, it turned out that someone took her disciple away from her to remove her incredible potential and that she even almost got completely crippled trying to simply prevent that with words.

In a tournament show off, she ends up meeting MC with ragged clothes and completely ugly appearance from having fallen to the ground countless times, then MC helps her to stay alive before he risks his life to get something extremely precious to save her, but that method will erase her memories. He didn't hesitate for even an instant as he applied the method.

Next time they meet she doesn't recognize him until too late in the story where she starts to look for him all across the universe.

Now THAT is tragedy, not NTR. NTR is just a cuckoldry fetish and that's fine but the fact that it was 'masked' with the reason being 'because it's a western ambiance style' it's just complete utter garbage. How disgusting and insulting for both east and western styles. <<less

City of sin is a very interesting and we'll thought out book at first. We see some character development at first with the main character struggling with issues like morality, rage, friendship, love but once he gets over the issue and reaches a conclusion to his thoughts he should not encounter the same issue again and again. The first three volumes are pretty good with decent character development but it just gets so inconsistent at times and devolves into the regular where the main character even being smart acts like... more>> an idiot and then rages when he suffers. The issue of morality was interesting at first but he gets over it over a period of time but it keeps getting relevant over and over again when there are so many issues that the author could explore. After the third volume it's basically all war and political battles and the protagonist acting on his rage but then just let's his enemies leave so they get back at him later. It's just endless amounts of war with not really much to differ. I have read through two volumes of this and I can see that there so many ideas the author could explore but they keep focusing on issues already tackled before instead of the more interesting aspects of the story. It's really annoying to see the MC kill so many people in these planar wars and then struggle with morality in the next battle. It's just inconsistent. Atleast stick to a persona you have built over this long period instead of just ruining it. <<less

[I edited this review, so old score shows up, but it's actually 2 stars]

If the first 150 chapters are indicative enough of the whole novel's quality, then I can only say that it's an overrated, disappointing novel.

Overall, this is just another of those [western fantasy] + [mage] kind of Chinese novels. You know, those with AI chips and whatnot. They all have the same atmosphere, the same boring plot, and the same boring characters that are unique, yes, but not at all compelling or interesting.

First, the beginning of this novel... more>> is a cringefest. The silliest start I've ever seen. For example, mother stops the protagonist from retaliating against bullies, and he can only show his unyielding spirit by not giving up when he's being beaten up (not giving up means not passing out and acting tough basically). Then, she actually su*cides before him, and the best part is that the protagonist is like, okay, cool, let the story go on. BUT, the author retcons this after a few chapters, and the protagonist suddenly has a trauma left by his mother's su*cide after acting like nothing's happened the whole time.

I mean, not even chapter 10, and already retconing?

The relationship of the protagonist and his father is also cringy. His father is weird too, but everyone is weird in this novel, so it doesn't matter much. What I like, though, is that MC got sent to some mage to study, and when her underlings evaluated his talent, he had a higher talent with his dick? Is this some virg*n or incel writing? I just can't lol. And that woman is already calling dibs on the protagonist who hasn't even hit puberty because of this? Lmao.

I feel like there was more retcon after this, but I can't really remember.

Anyway, the protagonist gets a bit better afterwards. I mean, he was basically a teenager soon after, and he did act like a teenager somewhat. So that part was realistic, though I still didn't like him, as he was still boring.

What was more problematic was that all love interests (most female characters, actually) are weird in some way. They have weird personalities, like every single one of them. A guy would say, don't stick your D in crazy, and all those girls are that crazy, and the protagonist often does stick anyway (he's somewhat s*upid in relationships, but it's acceptable given his age and experience). Not a single one of them is likable though, at least imo. Their quirks and the crazy are basically all there is to their personalities.

Other characters are basically the same. If you expect any of them to be fleshed out, then stop, just don't. I think the protagonist's enemies are the only male characters that get any depth to them, and they're still boring dudes who are not relatable at all. Well, maybe one of them was a bit, but he was still a shallow guy.

The plot is boring and generic. If you read one or two of those whatever transmigration AI chip mage novels there's a sh*t ton of, then you've read this one too. The only innovation was when the MC's first enemy tried to destroy him using tricks, those very tricks (well, a few of them) being novel, and the fact that MC isn't a transmigrator (but a native, so to say) is kind of new, but he still has some AI chip counterpart, so yeah.

The way the novel is written (narrated) is also nothing special. It's dreary and monotonous. We don't really get insight into characters and their thoughts and feelings much (unless it's some surface-level emotions like dudes getting angry or h**ny), and the same dreary atmosphere pervades all 150 chapters I read (unless it's those ret*rded parts). You know, it kind of feels as if this is some postapocalyptic novel. The sky is gray and filled with radiation, nothing cheerful anywhere, no real hope or happiness to be found, and all that counts is law of the jungle and strong preying on the weak (so get gud MC or die). This kind of feel. There's no way to empathize with any characters (the boring protagonist included) or really feel closer to them. As for hobbies and interests? Lmao, what's that, can you eat that? Ain't nobody got time for that, gotta get stronger and get more influence and monies. Or screw around. What are all those people in the novel even living for? It really is a city of sin. Or rather, writing this kind of novel is a sin. Okay, I ranted some here, so I'll stop.

At any rate, it's a very boring, repetitive, and dreary novel, at least the first 150 or so chapters. I think I practically skimmed at least half of the chapters I read. I wanted to get familiar with a more representative chunk to get a better idea what's the novel like, but it was a waste of time. <<less

First book - 2/5, I literally skipped the whole thing.

Book 2 and onwards - gets significantly better, some parts even 4.5/5 if you enjoy war novels.

However, other reviews are accurate, the ending was so sh*t that I felt so empty after reading it. So many story and character points are left unfinished.

If I could re-read it, it would read from Book 2 til the 2nd last book, then just stop. Leaving my final review at 4/5 because there were honestly some damn good moments and arcs with good writing quality.... more>> Very good book ruined by poor beginning and terrible ending. <<less

A story about a man who relies on his women for the entirety of the story. Still good though with the plot being pretty decent, the leveling system being a bit bland but also different, and the antagonists that can be considered to have a bit more brains then in most stories that you get here. In conclusion, it can be considered worth a read if you even read sh*t from this site anyways.

Cos along with MoE and DH, are extremely good underrated novels. The world build in Cos is especially mind-blowing, it's well made, the author constructed an entire system upon which the story was made.
This story is unlike many other cultivation novels, describing a rather medieval european society. The intrigues and plots are similar to other court novels, Richard Archeron's story being one of tragedy, fighting both for and against destiny. Side characters are not merely decorations, there is a lot of friendship, love and hate between them and MC.
Spoiler

Many people complained about the ending. However, ending is a problem to various long novels, but in this case the ending was good, cutting all loose ends and providing a satisfying answer to all the problems.

Overall, read it along with MoE, this author is really one of the bests.

I liked it a lot. Plot and world building are excellent, especially in the beginning. But it starts losing steam as it continues.

Spoiler

It turns into a real depression factory as it goes on. Very few happy endings. Which honestly can make for a bad book. One or two for character impact is alright. But in my opinion it just gets super depressing, like why even continue reading if all the characters you care about get shitty endings?

This is a very good novel. This novel succeeds in retaining the reader's desire to continue reading. In the beginning, it is very rocky and that is to be expected; Richard does not start off powerful at all nor does he have a secret power. The novel starts off as an uphill battle before leveling off. Additionally, he works for what wants even though he does not always get what he wants. Some characters are eventually faded out once their relevance to the story is gone.
