Shao Xuan joins a friend in his expedition to a recently discovered archaeological cave. After he picks up an ordinary looking stone he is teleported to a different world and wakes up in the body of a small orphan child. The world he is in now is still in its stone age with primitive tools made of stone and the ways of the people are savage. Savage isn’t the only thing special about the people though, because they have superhuman strength, jump higher than trees and punch stones. In short, they are able to cultivate their bodies. Despite all this, it is a real struggle to survive because of the scarcity of food. Together with Caesar, his pet wolf, he tries to survive in this cruel world.

I'll be honest, this novels is just 'normal', that's it.

I didn't feel anything special about it, the focus is changed all the time, our protagonist doesn't have a defined goal, the relms are very poorly explained and everything is relatively simple.

I wouldn't say it's bad, but it just isn't exciting, it didn't captivate me. At first I was very hopeful but as it goes on, it's kinda frustrating.

Anyways, it's not bad, it's just boring.

The worst thing about this novel is that it ends, it feels unfinished, it could easily go for about 1000 more chapters, even so it is very good in all aspects, I love the male protagonist.

I started reading this when it already had 400+ chapters and I hadn't skip even one bit of the chapters.

There is a bit of a hiccup regarding the translation in the middle. But the current translator picked it up and is doing an amazing job so far, thank goodness.

The plot isn't repetitive. No unnecessary fillers nor overly complicated explanations. From the style of writing, I can see the author actually knows what they want to write and have a goal to achieve.

Every characters has their backstory and their own dimensions.... more>> The MC is intelligent and use his brain for once. And he truly stays true to his preferred low-keyness. So far no romance subplot (which I love) and no unnecessary killings either. I also love how MC is growing steadily as the main character and how he thirsts for new knowledge. It feels like we're learning about this new world together with him lol

So trust the rating and the 5 star reviews. There are reasons why its NU rating is high especially for a fantasy CN. You won't regret it. <<less

Ok so I can't really put my finger on why I love this novel, maybe its the fact that it doesn't fall in the same cliches as every xianxua novel or that the MC is not a totally arrogant/hot headed edgy teenager.

He is not so op while progressing much faster than his peers he doesn't sit at the pinnacle yet, also a big plus for me was the fact that he didn't try to actually bring over technologies and such well tbh the author doesnt really mention the fact of... more>> reincarnation that much aside from basic common sense that the MC displays <<less

Definitely one of the most enjoyable reads I've had under translated Chinese novels. It left me with an intense craving to read other novels set in a primitive tribal fantasy setting, though it was a disappointment that there's almost none other available that could match this, and I settled for historical novels set in primitive times, written in English.

I do have an issue with the ending as I felt that it's still a bit rushed even with the extra chapters.

A really good novel! I regret not reading it earlier. I always thought the cover art looked kinda dumb and that the summary felt kinda cringy. Caesar felt weird as a name initially, but I'm used to it now.

MC's stoic (but inwardly more funny) and is strong and smart. Not a lot of idiocy. Sure, he has moments where suggests a dumb thing, that's really rare and because he's unused to the place. Unlike some other MCs, MC doesn't go out of the way to 'invent' stuff. He does bring... more>> in some new stuff, but it isn't overly exaggerated. Oh, MC gets lucky, but the plot armor isn't serious. He's got some mysterious benefits *cough* mild cheats *cough* but it's in an acceptable range. He just comes off as a young genius in a strong tribe.

Mysterious powers and stuff. We have no idea how exactly MC got transferred and got some cheats. We know why, but not really. The MC's tribe is also in a slightly weird situation and a bit of mystery that's getting slowly revealed.

MC's tribe is strong, but separated from others. They're simple-minded, but not actually dumb like barbarians. MC has good/complex/interesting relationships with his tribe members. Master relationships are quite heartwarming.

Totem power is cool. Although the story is set in tribal/slightly primitive society, it's not dumb. It's not overly simplistic. It's a slightly developed tribal society. It's one of the first I've read, (Pursuit of Truth's good too! Kinda similar but POT has a lot more emotion/tragedy) but it's fun to read. The story might be predictable, but it's not exactly always possible to figure out what will happen exactly.

Story's got it's hype moments, but there's quite a bit of normal, slice of life-y moments. Don't get bored by the slowish start; it gets more interesting later.

MC's got some cool pets! They're not annoying and I think they're fun and cute.

No romance. MC's not a dude that saves every women. Also, women aren't completely weak and useless even if males are generally stronger. There hasn't been a super important strong female main character though.

Spoiler

Not all tribes are similar! MC finds other tribes later and other lost wanderers of his tribe.

For stories like this, the lack of romance is truly my cup of tea. Like a few other reviewers have said, the story makes up for the lack of romance 100%. Something about the plot that I enjoy a lot, would be the totem powers and the tribe. (Will not spoil. Although, it wouldn't be much of a spoil anyways. I could have saved you from reading large portions of texts regarding this, but I'll let you guys have a better explanation)

If I may say so myself, I like... more>> how Shao Xuan's knowledge and talent is in no way unrecognized by the tribesmen. He's bought upon so many surprises and I even wanted to think he was OP sometimes because of the amount of achievement he was committing at such a young age, another reason why this story was my cup of tea.

If you like stories with a determined, merciless, well-mannered (especially towards his elders), intelligent, clever, talented and extremely humble male protagonist with strong beast companions and fast cultivation, then you would enjoy this story thoroughly. Also if you're like me and you don't like the story having any mature/adultery content and doesn't focus on romance a whole lot, read it. I wouldn't mind the mp finding a girl just as determined as him. Take "Shen Yin Wang Zuo", by Tang Jia San Shao as an example. The protagonist has a partner that is just as determined, calm, intelligent, well-mannered and talented as him. An important factor being that both are well deserved of one another. Wouldn't mind if this story was just like that, not putting much of a focus on the romance within the power couple or between any other pair in the story.

Also, if you like the mp to be ruthless/merciless towards his opponents that are not his own people/good people, you might take an interest in this story. On his first kill, Shao Xuan was emotionless and thought nothing of it. It is a story where the world is ruthless and one would learn from a young age just how cruel life is and very quickly, learn to kill or be killed.

Spoiler

P.S. He also seems to contain an ability no-one he has met so far to possess. It could be due to the fact that his flame (the source of his totem power apparently), which shares its host (Shao Xuan) with an egg or something like that, is complete. (Although, this is just a speculation. We, the readers and the characters are unsure.)

Most of the people in his tribe would acquire an incomplete flame when awakening their inner totem warriors. He is able to detect beings based off of their skeletons. He can also identify the rarity/value of materials he finds. This ability can be used on and off whenever he wants. Wait for him to awake his totem power at the tender ass age of only ten. You will have a better explanation of this ability when he does.

40 chapters are what are currently translated.

Transport MC to stone age. The theme wasn't that very exiting for me to start reading.

40 chapters and nothing much seems to be happening EXCEPT for world building. Not much fighting yet.

World building- yes... the author did a nice job. I wasn't bored in anyway. I loved how the main character uses some of his knowlege helping the tribe.

I couldn't help but smile when the other characters were happy. I feel sad when the other characters are sad.

Interesting so far. Very different from your run of the mill xianxia. Though so far the lack of any actual cultivation make it feel more like xuanhuan.

BITINNNN, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Why does it have to end so early? I WANT MORE! Why didn't they add more chapters? T■T

This is so good that I'm screaming. I'm torn why I didn't discover this novel earlier. This is a definite 5/5 for me! It's an amazing adventure they took me.

My first impression of this novel was great. The description hooked me with the primitive settings, along with the character of the wolf, Caesar. If you're also like me, who got tempted by the description, just follow the temptation. This novel is... more>> so worth the read that I'm even questioning why it's not popular or well-known.

I love the characters, especially pets, ChaCha, Sapphire and Caesar. They're just so cute and a cherry on top for the novel. I'm very happy that none of the characters were forgotten in this novel which is a plus for me because in other novels after they passed that arc, the characters in that arc were forgotten and not mentioned anymore.

My favorite character would probably be Shao Xuan, the protagonist. It's cliche, I know, but for me, it's not that cliche because I favor side characters most of the time. I rarely pick the protagonists as my favorite, so this is rare.

I like his character the most because of how he developed throughout the novel. He literally went from weak to strong. I also like him because his personality/character is my cup of tea. He's cautious, thinks of his actions, and is not reckless at all.

His transmigrator identity didn't actually help him that much in his new life. It's not a cheat so he didn't became overpowered with the knowledge of modern things. His goldfinger, if I say, would probably be the stone his archeology classmate gave him from his original world.

For the romance, there's none, but at the epilogue, it was said that Shao Xuan had a wife and also had children already. There's actually hints on who is gonna be his wife in the novel. You just have to notice it.

For the plot, I won't say much lest I accidentally gave spoilers. I can only say that it's amazing, it's very well-written and I love it all! It's literally an adventure ride I would go to again and again.

For the ending, I'm lamenting why it ended so early. I wish the author added more chapters to tie up the loose ends and to give closure because in the epilogue, it just flashforwarded. I'm mainly heartbroken why it only has 844 chapters.

Translation wise, it's great. It's consistent most of the time, expect around chapter 267. It was fixed after a few chapters, don't worry. After that, the mistakes I only noticed was the use of the pronouns she/he. The translator sometimes mistakenly used he for a female character that I even got confused at the middle. Just firmly remember the names of the female characters and you'll be okay.

Moving on, I'm ending this review here because I'll probably only write about my sadness of why it ended early. I'm feeling mixed emotions, and words can't tell how much I love this novel. This is recommended. Just read it. I promise you, you won't regret it. Thank me later. <<less

This is the best novel for me..I have read hundreds or maybe more than a thousand novel but this novel has a very special place in me. After years of repeatedly rereading this novel until getting more chapters to be read.. It's finally completed. I would definitely reread this again soon. I love Shao Xuan's character the most. Calming, adventurous and never have I felt any slight repulsion.

Just for the vivid and vibrant world this gets 5*.

Despite the name this is more a slice-of-life & travel novel, instead of an action-loaded martial and magic battle. Most fights are about hunting.

The MC gets sent into a distant stone-age world where he lives in a fallen tribe and hopes to bring it to new glory.

There are a few issues, but they don't detract from the reading experience.

Spoiler
  • The story is episodic, i.e. the MC has a big issue and learns a new skill to overcome the crisis, only for that skill to never play a big role again. (Beast taming, traps, shamanic marks, fishing, stone-crafting,...)
  • There are no girls/romance. They just don't exist (besides three or four mentions in three-thousand pages). Definitely laziness on the authors part.
  • No one dies.
  • Evil guys always get a second chance:
    • "You dare to rob the flame horn tribe? Kill. Kill. Kill!"
    • Robber gets captured
    • "Go away little robber, and don't you dare come back."
    • Robber comes back.
    • Shocked Pikachu
  • The MCs tribes-people are "superior" whenever compared to other tribes. Not only based on their totemic-power, but also based on their mentality and upbringing. They don't steal, don't rob, are broad-minded, chivalric, without fear, etc. (Despite the fact that in the beginning of the story there is a clear segregation in the tribe between the "upper-class" and the rest. Also there is the hunting leader that frowns up on the MCs trap skills and won't take him on any more hunts)
  • The MCs past life and experiences almost play no role. Sometimes it shines through (calculations, trading) but mostly he is just brawns over brain like the rest
  • Shamanic magic gets mentioned but doesn't play a role until much later in the story. Imagine this: You get thrown into a fantasy world and don't have any interest in learning magic!
  • I read somewhere that at-least gold is not suitable for weapons/armour as it is quite soft. But I am no expert.
  • MC "forgot" the route to eagle mountain. Author, you are very lazy!

Definitely recommend reading this novel. The translation and editing is superb for chapters 1-265, a big struggle between 266-314, and good again past 315+. The world and how characters train is unique has qualities that inspire intrigue.

The biggest thing in this story that stands out to me, is the world doesn't freeze when an event happens to the MC. The MC of course has the usual plot armor and is extremely important but, isn't integral to the sustainability of his tribe and others related to him. Things continue to progress... more>> without having the story explicitly state it, so when we go back to revisit, things feel natural. And the next is the transmigration factor. He doesn't overly rely and constantly fall back on it, doesn't suddenly pull modern knowledge out of his ass, rather he tries to integrate what he does know and applies it with what he has available.
Spoiler

for example a fishing lure

This novel is a true gem even though it has some issues. The story is even more unique than most being set in a prehistoric era that is very different than what most might expect. The author does an excellent job of setting the background of the world, allowing for it to grow alongside the MC without it ever feeling out of place or repetitive. The MC also has clear, logical goals instead of cheap tropes like just travelling an trying new food. The way I would describe this story... more>> is a collection of minor/pseudo epics which may give you some idea of how it is written. The pacing for the novel is also excellent aside from the end of the novel.

And that is this novels biggest issue in my opinion, it's ending. The story just keeps growing until the author has no way to stop it, literally. They choose to leave the ending of the novel completely open with all major plots only temporarily resolved. Yes, it is realistic in the given setting, but it happens way to fast and feels forced. To be honest it is exactly like Coiling Dragon for those who read to the end.

Overall, I would still strongly recommend this novel as it is well worth your time. Just be aware that the ending is very open and slightly rushed so that you aren't so disappointed or frustrated with the lack of a solid conclusion. <<less

It feels like alot of care was put into this novel. It is pretty unique and every chapter is satisfying. It has a slower pace (slice of life) but does not feel 'dragged out' or repetitive in my opinion.

Characters are likable especially the beast companions.

The novel may not have romance but it does not feel lacking. It does humor, action and adventure well.

The translation is also great:)

This is a GREAT READ. The plot and characters are very creative! The thing that really made me love this novel is the No-Romance. I am thrilled to know there isn't any romance in this novel. MC and characters are well developed. All the other things I want to say about this novel is already said by the others who gave five stars. If you're sick with romance then this is a great find. Ladies, there is a lot of hot men here.

A wonderful read.

I didn't expect that I'd enjoy the story about the 'cave men' so much that I'd go for RAWs (delay my own translations, create NU smurf to avoid readers' pitchforks just to say that this Story. Is. Good).

At first I was doubtful about the setting. After all, living in caves and eating meat (alright, it's not raw, but roasted, but still) is just not my cup of tea. However, since I suffered from the lack of good reads and a lazy bone in my spleen, I gave it... more>> a go and now the only thing I regret is that I have yet to catch up to the complete RAWs. Ehem.

The story starts getting good with a speed of a good sports car, namely, I became a faithful follower at the 5th chapter. For me it says a lot. A definite plus is that it's not about cave men and meat eating in a literal sense. If that's something that put you off reading it, don't sweat, there's a yummy twist (totem powers, fire seed, etc) that takes the story away from the literal stone age. I'm currently 350± chapters in, and I have to say that the world building is steady, descriptive and satisfying. Some characters might seem plain or cardboard-y, but 1. It gets better, 2. If it does not, then it's just a backdrop one.

I like the authors sense of humour. No, I love it (that one is so my cup of tea that I'm sad it always becomes empty too fast). Heck, that joke about the left hand sends me in a tizzy whenever I remember. I'm sure some would find this type of humour lame, but khm. It's awesome. Cultural gap humour is epic. Though I'm still undecided whether author planned the story as a comedy (which I think it is. Bah. That might be because I'm a gloomy mushroom myself) or just a comic relief, either way, the comedy part is great and well-paced. As is the whole story. A story that is dragging until you feel that your teeth are about to fall out? That's not about this one! I even wish it would slow down some.

Once in a while I get lost when I try to calculate how old is MC at certain point, but it's just a mere glitch of my own.

Another thing that leads to eye-twitching is a grammar mistypos. But as a grammar nazi (when it comes to others) I'm used to it. Apart from that, translations are great, kudos to the translator (and the co). <<less

Reincarnation story, but with original materials and creativity. It is one of the more uncommon reincarnation novels. The story depicts a young man in the present sent back into the past of stone age, but cultivation like elements of totems are introduced. The story does not resemble Xian Xia at all, exploration and expansion is done with a purpose instead of simply because of the change of power level.

The world setting and character interactions are written very well, and the mysteries of the past of the tribes keep you hooked... more>> on reading to find out more. The protagonist is very level headed and realistic, characters do not resemble fictional characters with moral values written for the sake of the story. <<less
