Before her rebirth, Wei Luo was an innocent little girl.

After rebirth, she appeared lovable on the outside but was a different person on the inside.

Those who learned of her true nature yielded to her.

Only the prince regent regarded her as a treasure; no matter how much he pampered her, it was not enough for him.

Anything she wanted, he gave her, including the princess position that she didn’t want, which he stubbornly pushed onto her.

It was one reading experience with a little bit funny, a lot of fluffy and romance, some scheming and family love.

It started with a little bit heavy plot but as the story progressed, eventually became light and fun.

If you like dominant ML's character with power and possessive traits, this is a novel for you.

... more>> For MC 's character, she describes as a very beautiful, smart and noble lady. She also holds grudges and sometimes a little bit petty. But that imperfect character made her more realistic.

I have plan to reread this novel in the near future.

And then of course I wouldn't be able to enjoy this story without translator's hardwork. If there is another rating for translation quality, I'd like to give 10/10 stars. The translator did amazing job and she keeps consistent updates, this make me admire her professionalism (although she knows very well this job is without salary). <<less

This is such a cute and refreshing story. It doesn't deserve one star rating, like come on. Even if you don't like the storyline, the 'world' the author created is enough for it to get a decent rating star. The whole details make me in awe.

Spoiler

Activate your ancient setting mind. There's nothing wrong for an adult man (in the ancient Chinese era) marrying a 15 years old girl (which is a marriageable age). Also there's nothing wrong for the ML to keep an eye on the MC practically for 10 years before he got to marry her. Hubby gotta keep future wifey in the palm of his hand or else someone will try to steal her, no?

ML is a sucker for MC. Their scenes together are so adorable (and naughty) if you don't consider their age differences (again, turn on your ancient era mind). The kissing scenes tho /Lord/

Ps. Forget all the antagonist characters, the one that needs a beating is the emperor. The empress deserves more than him ugh somebody kick him for me.

OMG I'm having a bit of a hard time to read this for one simple reason.

The ML is a total creep. A man in his 20s going around trying to get a 13 year old girl to love him.

Wtf.

She's even trying to ignore him but he continues to press on. All. The. Time.

I love Li Song (he is villain actually).. But cute.

Story about Wei Luo and Zhao Jie. How fate bring them close together.

Wei Luo already died but she got second chance. Her soul was back to the body when she was little. Now she must survive and try to change her life.

Cinderella story in Ancient China, except she is not poor. And I also love Wei Luo father. He is reasonable man.

This story is sweet. I'm just reluctant to finish this since I am rooting for Li Song. I'm a sucker for underdogs T_T

Edit:

Spoiler

There is an alternate ending where Ah Luo ended up with Li Song, but it is unsure if that was real or just a dream. I guess author has some conscience after all

Chongfei Manual has to be one of those books, where you just can't stop reading. Unless it is getting translated. It is a really short read, compared to those novels with 1000+ chapters, and with way less dramatic twists and and barely any useless chapters that are not needed.
Spoiler

The female lead is considered like drop dead gorgeous or at least in the ML's thoughts. She captured the male lead from early on and secured her place in his heart without her knowing. In this relationship, Zhao Jie was the 100% pursuer and Wei Luo had a very tsundere vibe to her. Never less, the interactions between them are considered loving, and Zhao Jie pampers her to no extent. The love rivals didn't make a huge impact on the plot, as Gao Dan Yang (likes ML) is shipped away to a distant country as a bride and Li Song is stuck with Wei Luo's cousin. The engament between the Song House and Ah Luo was cunningly broken by Zhao Jie, so Song Hui disappeared later on.

[collapse]
Well, anyways this novel is a must read and though the romance is a little slow paced cause there is a huge age gap between them, when Zhao Jie starts thinking about marrying her, he starts making advances at Ah Luo.

Great story... rebirth to change her life and turn things around for better life. With some revenge for those that hurt her. Slow but interesting plots unfold started from young age of 6. At least she has father and brother who love her... and her princely ‘brother ‘ who spoilt her.

Thanks

This isn't completely horrible I guess, but I just finished Rebirth of a Malicious Empress from Military Lineage (damn that name is so long and clunky) and THAT time travel one was so good that Chongfei Manual totally pales in comparison.

This story is in some awkward suspension between a reverse harem and an OTP with a super possessive male lead. There isn't really much of a plot. I think the author's main priority is getting the main female lead and main male lead together... But their relationship doesn't feel satisfying... more>> to me, especially after reading the OTP from Rebirth of a Malicious Empress from Military Lineage whose male lead was actually jealous in an exciting way. In Chongfei Manual, the male lead is jealous in a boring, misogynistic way. In Chongfei Manual, there's just too much misogyny and oppressive patriarchal baggage for me to enjoy the romance. When I read Chinese/Japanese light novels, I have to sort of dissociate a bit and ignore the sexism and otherwise piles of problems... and I guess I did that for like a good half this novel but I can't keep it up.

Someone should also add the Lolicon tag. I don't mind much older male leads, but only AFTER the female lead is completely of age. Even though technically in her mind, the female lead is basically the same age as the male lead, the fact of the matter is that in her body she is not. (I ALWAYS thought about this in Rebirth of... Military Lineage LOL like, Shen Miao basically like a 40 year old. Cougar!!!???) and from the perspective of the male lead, the female lead in Chongfei Manual is a child...

Spoiler

DID NOBODY ELSE THINK IT WAS UNSPEAKABLY CREEPY HE WAS EXCITED FOR HER FIRST PERIOD? 0_0

[collapse]

Oh, and I don't understand what was the purpose of the second and third "male leads" (can I even call them male leads? I mean they were also in love with the main female lead) :

Spoiler

I really don't understand the main female lead's animosity towards the both of them. I understand taking revenge and feeling bad from your previous life, but her attitude and her actions really felt heavy-handed. I actually felt so bad for both Song Hui and Li Song.

Spoiler for Rebirth of Malicious... Military Lineage:

Compare Song Hui and Li Song to Pei Lang. Yes, Shen Miao hated him and was angry and took her revenge, but like... she did exactly what was reasonable. And he got what he deserved. But there was a limit, and she also eventually stopped hated him and torturing his heart with her animosity.

[collapse]

I should rate this story even lower, but the ratings on here are way inflated anyways. Maybe 4 years ago I would have found this romance super titillating but now it just feels super flat. I don't feel interested in finishing this... I honestly just picked this up because its premise was similar to Rebirth of a Malicious Empress from Military Lineage in that both main female leads died a first life and woke up to a time when they were younger and had a "second chance" to take pre-emptive measures against the villains in their lives. But whereas Rebirth of a Malicious Empress felt epic, Chongfei Manual feels like a third-rate s*xual fantasy... Dx <<less

omg where to start! Seems like all the other reviews done covered it pretty well.

I NORMALLY like transmigrated/reborn revenge romance novel, but this one is so bad I have to just drop it.

Spoiler
  1. The ML oh so handsome perfect is so creepy. Oh I want to touch her small pretty feet, her small cute waist, her small tender mouth. She's so dainty will she be able to stand the exercises I planned to do?
  2. the most important thing is that I dont get how the king is scared, instead of proud, of his 15 years-old accomplished son.
  3. the FL is so cute then dainty and just outwardly perfect nobody can resist her smile even though she apparently is strong enough to stab you while smiling. She smells so good, walks like a fairy, and sooo smart.
  4. her brother of course has to be twin brother. Only care for her and really has no other character.

All in all, its the creepy ML that just did it for me. Forcing kiss is not romantic, ok? Its just not. Being happy that she finally gets her period is also NOT ok, ok? Eww

The heroine of this novel, Wei Luo, had experienced a bad ending in her first life due to the fact that she was the legitimate daughter of the first wife of the 5th son of the Duke of Ying (her step-mother disliked her and arranged for her to be sold to s*ave traders.) For most of her life back then, she lived with a poor farmer couple who had lost their only son. And, because they wanted her to marry their dead son and become his ghost bride, she ran... more>> back to her real family to get back her identity as the legitimate daughter -- only to be harmed by her stepmother and ended up dying in the streets. When she woke up to find that she was reborn, she decided that she would get revenge for her previous life and do her best to live the most flourishing life that she can.

OVERVIEW: TBH, this novel is like the prequel to "reborn" or "transmigration" stories where the OG!FL has a protagonist halo that leads everyone around her who has even the slightest of bad intentions to the worst possible fate. All the while, she dose nothing to earn it outside of being beautiful and a little crafty. I didn't realize such novels actually existed. Seeing it now, I kept reading just to see what the fuss was about XD. It's really bad. The novel itself has some interesting parts, but if you have normal worldviews, then you're going to suffer a lot while reading this. I almost dropped it several times, but I persisted for a while because I wanted to see how bad it got. And well. It was bad. The endings most of the "cannon fodder" characters got were horrible. Like, really horrible.

WARNINGS FOR MAJOR SPOILERS AND TRIGGERING TOPICS:

Spoiler

For example, the FL's half-sister, Wei Zheng, was married off to the cruelest male supporting lead and then arranged to be gang r*ped by him (probably repeatedly, since she only continues to get worse). The thing is, yes, she had joined her mother in disfiguring the FL in the past life, but that was due to her mother's instigations. In this life, she had some small schemes, but-- sigh. Anyway, there's also the girl that liked the ML. She waited for him for years, until she grew so old that it was difficult for her to marry. And because she had tried to chase off the FL with a few harmless words, she was married off to a fickle prince who beat her until she miscarried... LIKE. WTH. In the end, the FL didn't purposefully harm them, it's the author who wanted to provide contrast, I guess? Only, it ended up going all wrong. It just ruins the mood of the novel and makes the FL and ML look cruel. Which, I guess they are. That was never a secret from the beginning. *big sigh* anyway, yeah, that's a thing. It makes the novel really hard to like. No matter how good some parts may be, and how good the style of writing is, as a whole, it's a novel that can only be considered bad.

[collapse]

OTHER PROBLEMS: All in all, this novel has so many problems that I can't honestly recommend it. Just the age gap between the FL and ML alone is enough for it to be questionable, nevermind all the other problems it has. Still, if you're like me and you want to see what the "OG!FL" of those reborn or transmigration novels are like (where the cannon fodder counterattacks and such XD) then I'd recommend at least checking it out. It's truly ridiculous fjwlakfjlakjf.

Rating: 3/5

Tbh, the author's writing is really good. I'm talking about the prose -- like their way of describing things and the details that they provide. When it comes to content, it's not so good. Like, for this novel, there is absolutely no direction. At first it seems like its all about revenge, but that's set pretty early, and it's not satisfying at all because the FL doesn't actively participate in most of it. She just borrows the knife of others and causes those who slight her even just the slightest bit to have the most horrible ending. As for the the romance between the FL and ML, the age gap kind of ruins it (and things happen before she turns of age, which ruins it even more. I thought it would be like other historical novels, where the feelings are innocent until then, but NOPE.) I thought that the early development was pretty good, but then it became all about smut and it ruined everything. Altogether, this story had great potential, and I can see why there's people that like it. But yeh. The content is definitely extreme. <<less

This story is like all of my pet peeves rolled into one. All of the characters are either one-dimensional, total jerks or both. There isn't a single one I like or find interesting. The MC is nasty and the ML is a complete creep. The side characters are blocks of wood. Honestly the author comes across as a pe*ophile, constantly going on about the attractiveness of pubescent girls.
On top of that, the timeline is an absolute mess, the author can't keep anything straight, and the plot is boring. I'd... more>> give it zero stars if that was an option. <<less

First, I'll have to thank the translators for solid translation work here.

Secondly, I try to enjoy this as even a tr*shy revenge novel, but I can't. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

There's no character growth/development. Even the main characters are just functions of a plot and I don't feel that any of them are actually a real person. This is a really good example why there should be more 'show, don't tell'.

For example, FL's brother is just there as a sis con character. His entire existence is just... more>> there to show that FL is loved, and FL loves him. We don't know who he is as a person, what he likes, his motivation. And honestly, besides the author telling us that FL loves him, there's literally no indication of that either. They don't interact until FL needs the next plot armour.

I'm ok with FL/ML being unreasonable, even a bad person, but there's no repercussions for their bad actions.

It's a novel where everyone is shitty, you only prevail if you have the plot armour.

Also, SOOOOOO much focus on the appearance. We get it, FL is the biggest PYT on earth. The author literally devalues other girls just because they're not as pretty. And as always, it's never a good tr*shy novel without some casual colorism.

Spoiler

It's literally said in one chapter that Wurong (some foreign country) women can't be compared to Daliang (?) women because they're taller, and much darker (and the author also has to throw in 'more promiscuous' too for good measure)

[collapse]

The relationship between ML and FL is extremely bland. But more importantly:

Spoiler

And a 23 year old being a constant horn dog for a 14 year old - f*** that, honestly

[collapse]

I wanted to give this 1 star but accidentally give 2. Will change it once I finally figure out how to, since I'm an old aunty. <<less

This is a pretty good novel deserving at least 4 star if the other would just remember the time period. Everything after is my rant about some obvious bias other have.

Spoiler
  1. Li Song can bite a fat one, why would anyone like him is beyond me. The previous timeline aside, this timeline he still became a bully in his younger year which is not too bad of a start since he was just a kid, but then even after timeskip he still hold hostility against MC and only change his mind after seeing how pretty she is. Then he try to cover up a mu*der attempt, then he turn into an alcoholic and almost force himself on the MC. Even in the dream world where he met the previous timeline MC, he is still a creep who literally force himself on her this time and his fan still has the gall to call this a nice end.
  2. The matter of ML being a lolicon is also a weird thing to say, I'm not saying he is not being too invasive, but a lolicon he is not. He became interest in MC for her maturity and intellegent beyond her year. During her entire her childhood he has not make a single s*xual advance to MC and even thinking about finding a good husband for her later which is clearly the sign that he is acting like an overprotective brother at this point in time. Then at some point it turn into love, but he still make no s*xual advance toward her. His first advance toward her was after knowing that she has become an adult. Remember that 20 is call too old to marry in this time period, and 15 is the optimal range for marriage and having children.
  3. On the note of the time period, people get uncomfortable with ML and MC age gap romance where MC is too young is also bias. The time period being what it is, child birth is a literal life and death situation and the earlier you have children the better is the norm. Then the matter of s*avery, owner who has literal right over the life and death of servants, father who can take child away from his mother, dog fight, polygamy and so on is also present, but why was so little people who get uncomfortable with that in the review? And where are the people who concern about the little princess and her guard who also has a significant age gap.
  4. Then the MC's hate toward almost every other person that do her wrong in the previous timeline. She has every right to hate them, she was kill when she was only 15 and her family has every horrible thing possible done to them. After rebirth she got her revenge and then live her life normally, but still remember her hatred and that is fine, she don't have to change her mind. Why would she has to after Li Song being an ass in his younger year, then after seeing him in the festival he is too busy dazing in her beauty to notice how he was touching her inappropriately.
  5. The pinnacle of bias is when they hate how the MC is being a manipulative and evil while knowing that the story is literally a revenge story in the early chapter.
[collapse]

I could say more but let go on with the review.

Story and World building: 4.5/5, portraying a really good picture of an Ancient China country.

Character and Development: 3/5, not the worst but could be so much better. MC and ML is ahead of the other so much in term of character the other feel really bland. And even MC and ML is a little one track mind sometime.

Plot: 3.5/5, not too much drama but also not enough story to go around.

Translation: 5/5, even has picture and explanation for every foreign term you find.

Overall a great story 4/5. As long as you remember to keep in mind the story setting and time period, this will be good read. Highly recommend. <<less

ya know what, seeing this novel really takes me back... like wayyyyy back.

almost as far back as Wei Luo's age when she first met Zhao Jie. bad joke? not as bad as their age gap, but I digress. 4 stars for this book is kinda pushing it for me, but I do appreciate the translator and there are some parts that I don't totally hate. like the twins not instantly forgiving their mom. I wouldn't.

problem number one is obviously the age gap. I know, I know it was normal back... more>> then and like the norm, but THAT DOESN'T MAKE ME FEEL ANY BETTER DURING THE S*X SCENES. PERIOD. (get it lol period... I'll stop)

number two is... Wei Luo's character. the problem, per say, is that there's not a lot of it. like, how the author focuses so much on her ~beauty~ that I almost forgot how unbelievably cruel she is. like OP, I've been around. I've read some things, I'm aware of the harsh but historically accurate punishments but Wei Luo is a little too much. the author does focus on how Wei Luo is 'giving them what they deserve' but man it's kinda painful to read.

problem number three is the relationship between Wei Luo and Zhao Jie. I'm not loving it, and by 'not' I mean that Zhao Jie is psychotic but who am I to judge right? all males are overly possessive men who marry child brides and then literally ravage them s*xually. o_O~

but like I still gave it 4 stars cause like yolo or whatever

I really enjoyed this novel. I've actually reread it a couple times. Transmigration/Rebirth are my favorite type of chinese novel genre. I think what makes this novel such an enjoyable read is that I prefer the MC to be pampered. Even though the ML is a bit older, I didn't mind as much. I love that he is devoted to 1 person.

I know there are some shortcomings of the male lead and female lead, but nobody is perfect. The story is detailed and light heartened. The plot stands in ancient China.

I can't argue with other readers with Zhao Jie's and Wei Luo's romance because ancient Asia has a tradition of marrying a little to an old man. Compared to that, Zhao Jie is only 9 years older than Wei Luo. In ancient times in Asia, romance bloomed before a girl turned 6 or 7 properly (heard stories from my grandma and... more>> history teachers). So, base on history, the story has nothing wrong.

I LOVE this novel. I don't know how many times I read it but I'll reread it again and again in the future. <<less

An enjoyable read. I do agree with other reviewers that this is more shoujo than josei. It's a shorter read than usual C-Novels, which is nice. The plot is quite simple to follow, 1st half is focused on MC's revenge when handling members of the family/changing her life, 2nd half is more focused on her romance with the ML. There's not much political scheming or action.

I understand some people's concerns for the age gap, but I don't recall ML doing anything inappropriate to MC while she was young. He only... more>> started pursuing her when she reached "marriageable" age according to ancient standards I kinda just accepted it as it is. <<less
