Sakamoto Kenichi lives with a distant relative, a girl named Izumi Rina, in the house he shares with his mother.

Rina’s reserved personality, caring nature, and defenselessness from growing up in an all-girls school make Kenichi, who is troubled by his distance from others, aware of adolescent sexuality for the first time.

Seventeen years old, Kenichi tries to hide the fact that he is living under the same roof with a girl the same age as him from his friends, but Mori Yuriko, his childhood friend, finds out, and the distance between them changes slightly.

A love story that reflects a seventeen-year-old in the throes of a sensitive and volatile relationship.

If I had to describe this novel in 1 word, it would be “Bland”. It’s so bland to the point I had to push myself from reading it just to finish as a respect from the good translation.

There’s drama, but bearable. MC’s so frustratingly indecisive, like a typical Japanese protag. One good thing about this novel though is the plot development is quite realistic, albeit I wanted the other heroine to win but basing on the novel’s interaction, the conclusion is logical.

Seeing as there are no written reviews... 3½/5, rounding up to 4 to be fair.

Nice read, no annoying drama. There was a bit too much random exposition at times for my tastes, and there might've been some metaphors that only a Japanese person would understand (like dead cicadas and seasonal chestnuts), unless they were just a way to say "seasons are changing" without actually saying it. The exposition sometimes caused my mind to drift, which is, for me, an obvious minus. It's like writing a story of a roadtrip and,... more>> to pad the length, write five pages full of *wroom wroom wroom* car SFX noises.

That said, the flow of the story was mostly enjoyable, disregarding the filler-like stuff.

As a personal opinion, which does not lower my rating for this story (HUGE spoilers) :

Spoiler

Best girl lost. The personality of the winning heroine was very ugly to me, from criticizing mc's personality, to meddling with his family life by inviting people to HIS home, to feeling jealousy and acting up while she had had all the time in the world to come forth with her feelings before best girl showed up, to giving a silent treatment for weeks when MC had finally come to terms with his feelings.
