“If he’s being badass, I’m gonna plant my own crops. If he messes with me, he will not live past next year.”

Homebody Zhao Hai brought ‘QQ Farm’ along in his traversal to another world and resided within the body of a fallen noble. His fief was a black land which nothing could be planted, and more importantly, he even had a peerlessly powerful fiancee, who was actually the successor of a duchy and future Grand Duchess!

Even more importantly, he is a magical and martial cripple who could not learn magic and martial arts. His crippling was very thorough.

“I can’t learn magic, but I have the farm. You dare attack me? I’ll release bugs to eat up your rations and crops, and put pesticides and weed agents into your water sources to make your lands grow weeds. See if you dare to attack me. What? You wanna hire killers to assassinate me? Hehehe. I’ll hide inside the little house in my farm and see how you can attack me. When you leave, I’m gonna terminate your country’s crop productions, and then all of your people will revolt. See if you dare to kill me.”

Watch how this somewhat black hearted hobo uses his QQ Farm in the world of swords and magic to become a globally known nightmarish existence.

Spoiler

Based on the chapter number, I can already guess he become the god of farming. Coincidently, being able to cultivate might also be the case

[collapse]

Chapter number usually become end story spoiler in xianxia-like genre with weak to strong tag.

Anyway, its the repetitive plot with different premise and setting.

Bringing The Farm To Live In Another World was built on unique premises, but the author failed in developing it. There’s much to be desired in regard of its narrative, plot, and characters. Also, the author’s storytelling and pacing style made this story more suited to be called “slice-of-life” than... say, romance or common xuanhuan/xianxia.

The MC took over the body of a good-for-nothing young master whose family was on the brink of irreversible calamity in another world. He found out that along with the new... more>> body, he gained a special place with which he could strive to take his family out of the disaster. Till the latest chapter, the story was still narrating the difficulties he had to face and all the meticulous plans he came up with.

Frankly, I felt like cheated out of my expectation when reading it because I predicted something that is far more different. However, if you wanted “world building” kinds of novel with game elements and have no problem with slow pace and some repetitive narrative, then this might suit you well. <<less

Review as of Ch. 58.

Dreary, very dreary. While the premise is unique in that the MC basically has a spatial Farmville app, much of its selling point wore off due to the slow paced nature of the story. We get to read about the powerful abilities of the MC's cheat skill... and then it takes ages to get anywhere as the MC is distracted by his caution and worries which are logical but not very interesting to read about.

The limitations imposed seems arbitrarily forced. The MC has a farming cheat... more>> in his spatial world and yet has to jump through hoops to even begin reforming his real desolate lands. First he had to keep his spatial cheat under wraps... and then reveal it to everyone around him. It makes you wonder if the author could simply remove the spatial aspects and for the farming cheat to be applied directly into the world to make the story flow better (and faster).

I suppose I was expecting a kingdom building story where the crippled and exiled MC would ambitiously change his lands, create a fortune, build up an army, defend his new found wealth and prosperous lands from enemies foreign and domestic and then found an empire of his own.

But nearly 60 chapters in and we're still dealing with the minutia of the MC exploring his powers and combing through the small details that weighs the story down. For example, the MC wanted a fish farm... but it veers off into discussions about water magic, water beasts, toxicity and suitability of the location etc etc etc...

The translator is using machine translations but it is well edited. No jarring grammar mistakes and the sentences are coherent and readable.

But it is a very long-winded narrative, and I'm not too sure about recommending the novel. <<less

Read up to CH 13. I actually quite like the premise of this. MC's magic or martial arts has been sealed for 10 generations. Of course, like other game related soul travelling stories, MC wakes up in new world and body with a cheat skill. The ability to farm. Which is a game he had been playing before. So what does a down on his luck guy stuck in the middle of the worst farming estate do? Get revenge by becoming the best farmer behind the scenes. I'm looking forward... more>> to reading more as this plotline is different from the usual OP MC. <<less

At some point, you'd forget that the whole novel is about a farm... Might as well just call it "Bringing a magical space to live in another world."

Though while I say that, this is an "OK" novel to read when you want to turn off your brain or want to have a text-to-speech read you a novel while you are doing some other things. This novel has harem but other than the first wife (Laura) and the space manager (Cai'er), most will only be mentioned from time to time. Makes... more>> you wonder why bother adding girls when only two would be featured.
Spoiler

There is also this one harem member that I think a lot didn't like. Yes, it is Ruyen. The girl was supposed to be his fiancée. This girl fked around in the city that she is basically a known sl*t already. She hated the MC but because of plot, she experienced hardship and changed. MC eventually takes her in... and then forgotten. Like why bother with a "redemption" chapters for a character that you will never bring up again? The two or three times she's brough up, author is just making us read things like "she feels inferior to the other girls because she fked around so much."

[collapse]

The novel also has a problem of power creeping.
Spoiler

Oh you're a lowly noble in a strong empire. There are more power empires! Oh you're the prince-consort of the most powerful empire (Rosen Empire) ? There are multiple empires that can fight you. Oh you control entire continent (Ark Continent) ? There are higher realms that can destroy you. Oh you control the higher realms (Divine Realm, Demon Realm, Underworld Realm) ? There are higher higher realms that can destroy you. Oh you are in a higher higher higher realm (Machine Realm) and considered as a special person there? Well there are other realms (Cultivation Realm) that are stronger than yours. Oh you are an important member of the other stronger realm? Well there are stronger realm (Hundred Treasures Realm) that can wipe you. Oh you are now the highest member of that stronger realm? Well there are strongerer realms (Five Great Realms) than your puny realm. Oh you are now unrivaled and even destroyed two of the five great realms? There is another one stronger than that (Great Realm of Cultivation.)

[collapse]

This is as far as I've mindlessly heard from my text-to-speech. And I won't be surprised if something is greater than what realm he is in now, and something is greater than that and so on and so forth every 200-300 chapters. Almost ALL connections made in those realms will be forgotten as if you're reading from chapter 1 again. The only thing left is Laura, Cai'er, the Undead Army, and his cultivation. In a way, the novel is like a NEW GAME+. MC just brings what he needs to the next realm and forgets about everything else. The brotherly relationships and other sorts of relationship and plots happening will be forgotten. <<less

Honestly this is a good story but so much nonsense, it feels like a high school drama text when they want everyone have equal lines lmao...

and how they describe something using a lot of words really annoyed me so I mostly skimmed at the important part..

how they really like discused everything detailed and have a lot of obvious conversation, I mean isn't it enough to JUST DO IT!, and explain briefly after huh..

TLDR:

If you're willing to ignore the janky power system and mediocre battles, i'd recommend it. It doesn't have a huge screen time and the rest is a pretty pleasant read.

TLWR, I have some accumulated complaints after reading this, all of the issues got better towards the later chapters.

When some sort of change happens (like ascending, or moving to a place with different cultivation system) the author is more confused than the readers.
The novel sometimes reads like it was written by Joe Biden. The lower plane levels were 1-9, demigod,... more>> true god, King. The cultivation realm levels are just 1-9.
One chapter explains that Rank 9/demigod=level 1, true god=level 2, king=level 3.
like 10 chapters later, level 1 spell obliterates 10 king rank beasts and everyone is like "yep, that's about right".
5 chapters later, MCs "Elite" undead are called "Almost level 1, about rank 9".
Undead that are all true gods with some King ranks sprinkled in, wearing powerful armor that makes almost all of them close to king rank.
Like.. What? People change levels here and there, there was a realm between true god and king, but then the author never elaborated so it just sort of isn't there and the levels are incredibly vague,
some people don't have levels and the author just uses "stronger than the supreme elders, or stronger than *insert character*".
The cultivation setting is used to drive the story, and that's it. It is there, but it's not front and center like in the other novels. Instead it essentially just grants access to level-locked regions.
MC has the traditional wuxia Alzheimers and forgets ridiculous powers that spiralled out of control.
For some reason, early on he got an ability that has 10perc. chance to instantly kill anyone.. in the monitoring distance of his space.. which later becomes the entire map.. and it was supposed to grow to 100perc. by certain level.. And is spammable.. fun.. Obviously, he uses it once then forgets he has it.
Or the time when he grew rice for the entire month and was super happy he sold it for 20 000 while based on what we established at the very beginning of the novel, with the amount of land he had by that point if he grew raddishes and sold to space, he could make 1 050 000 gold in a single day.
And did I mention that no matter what ability, cultivation method, elements, magic anyone has, the fights are just people hitting each other with swords (Or later on large swords) ? The MC has all of the "cool" powers, but he uses exactly none of them except for summoning undead who also hit people with swords... Update: It got worse. In the cultivation world, the MC started using spells/formations, but even tho he can instantly use 30 000 layer formations and is "stronger than a nascent soul realm cultivator", he refuses to use anything above a 1000 and struggles against foundation establishment disciples to pad the chapters. At this point, he could fight a lobster and it would take 3 chapters...
The only "unique power" in this world is that for some reason, all army formations are rotating to increase penetration. By this worlds logic, a blob of people with a few people running around them in circles would be the chainsaw formation that cuts through regular square formations like butter. So the enemy soldiers have to run in the opposite direction to negate the rotational force.
Some of the formations were even described to have "spikes" like the flying and of course rotating cone with spikes, which irl would be just a few misplaced dudes running around outside of the actual formation, who would get killed first. But not here.. It has spikes and it spins, so it's powerfull..
The power system in this novel is a tightrope balancing act, but the author is not gracefuly running across the rope, he's hanging off of it, grasping for dear life, monster cans, cigarette butts and spaghetti falling out of his pockets as he's trying to advance with the grace of a disabled bonobo. <<less

I have truthfully enjoyed the book so far. I acknowledge the tropes and some generic bits of the story, but we all know what we get into when reading Eastern Fantasy. Regardless, there are still many enjoyable elements to the story. I actually am interested that there are over 10, 000 chapters and counting at this point, it's just a damn shame the translation speed might never catch up. I really look forward to this one day being fully translated!

The world development is superb on this one, most of the negative review was received during the MTL years earlier, but the current Translator is doing a great job on translating this one,

Sometimes it is probably hard to digest all the death, s*avery, or mind manipulation concept. I would not approach a story with prejudice of our own thought, this is a game like a story with a world with its own system, It is very fresh and I loved it.

The author was able to move to different world... more>> ideas without breaking the story and that is very remarkable on itself. Sometimes I get upset when on some stories author forget to utilize all users ability introduced on earlier chapter and the character become dull, but BTFTLIAW held on the idea and ability very farmly and I never felt the story broken. I get a sense of the ISSTH on BTFTLIAW. <<less

I am going to attempt to read this again. I don't remember exactly how far I got in the first go but it was somewhere towards the later end of the second realm. The reason I stopped reading it was just because it got to far removed from what I felt was the original story line that I enjoyed so much. To be fair though, it is written really well and it does a good job of keeping the reader invested. It's just at the time of dropping this I... more>> was already balancing 5 or 6 other ongoing novels and then trying to find something that had a heavy farming focus that I really enjoy (still looking over a year later despite numerous tries). But I would have no problems recommending this novel to anyone who is looking for something new to read. <<less

I feel like everyone around him slowly becomes useless while the originally useless MC slowly absorbs their traits. Like, why does your prodigy merchant wife always question you about your decision making in said merchant deals like she's some incompetent, only to realize that 'duh, one plus one equals two' It feels like the author is trying to make the MC seem more intelligent. But to me it seems like he just dropped everyone else's IQ.

A good and very inventive story. The writing and translations are at times a bit off, which is why it got 4 stars instead of five.

The Main Character is well written, a bit O.P. But I enjoyed his style.

Supporting characters are interesting and I enjoyed meeting them in the authors world. The women the MC marries don't get set aside and maintain a good supporting role.

The author mixes many types of worlds from magic and vampires to high tech worlds all connected by planes. The story has good detail of... more>> how things work and are quite inventive. Old and new ideas cross many types of stories, I found this to be very refreshing and fun.

This is a long story which I like, it might not be for everyone, it will have too much detail at times. Toward the later chapters, past 500, some chapters tell the story more than show it to the reader. Yet the author uses that to progress the story and then will get back to showing his world.

A good read if you like the long detail mix of genre. You might pass if you want a faster paced read. <<less

This is one of those novels that starts out as pretty much any other Chinese 'isekai' novel where a modern man transmigrates to a world of swords and magic with a sprinkle of cultivation added to it. The MC is a modern man with an introverted personality and this is shown in his actions and how he reacts to for instance magic and stuff like that. The MC receives a system for creating a farm and even though the system makes the MC pretty op it still takes a couple... more>> 100 chapters for the MC without using the system to be overpowered. While reading I was soon surprised that the MC does not have the usual overbearing personality and especially in the first few 100 chapters he is very much aware of his strengths and weaknesses and uses them in a clever way to fool everyone into thinking he is far stronger than he really is. Another thing that positively surprised me is that the opponents are not all idiots that force the MC to face slap them. Some of them turn into friends and some of them are turned into undead and some start out friendly but eventually the MC loses interest in helping them for good reasons and they drift apart. The mc's personality is different from most xianxia mc's and he thinks a lot more about the consequences of his actions than almost all mc's that I know of. He won't just storm into battle and makes sure that the result does not negatively affects him in the future (e.g. He does not create enemies by accidently ignoring people or any other s*upid way most of the Chinese fantasy novel mc's create enemies and gives everyone an equal chance when he first meets them hoping that they make the right choice before making them an enemy or friend). Another thing that positively surprised me is that the MC is not really interested in having an harem but feels himself forced into taking an harem. His first few wives force him into marrying more woman for the advantages (all this after their personality has been checked by the MC and his wives) because that is how the culture in that universe works. He finds himself in the strange situation where he wants to enforce his cultural norms and values but is eventually forced to acknowledge that he is the only one that wants those values when it comes to marriage. A completely different way of adding an harem to a novel and although I'm not a fan of harems but if harems have to be part of the story than I prefer how this writer has implemented it.

As many other reviewers have revealed not everything is great and I too have parts that I don't like but so far it has not lowered my interest in this novel. I don't read the mtl so I am not as far into the story as some. What I don't like as much is that most of his battles are a bit too easy. And even though the writer gives the MC a lot of wives who remain part of the story they hardly have to battle themselves and they usually help the MC out from his system world. I would love to see them more involved in the actual battles instead of helping out from a safe place.

Even though the storyline is in general pretty predictable and the system is too overpowered I still like this story a lot. Let's be honest most Chinese fantasy novels follow the same recipe of MC going from weak to strong and a lot of face slapping along the way. And that is fine, part of it is what interested me in the genre in the first place, but what distinguishes them from each other are the writing style and the personalities of the characters. And that is where this novel in my eyes excels in. The writing style has MC has a good balance between fighting, world building and territory management. And the MC has a likeable personality but is also ruthless to his enemies, but most of all most of his actions are well thought through and take into account how his actions affect the future (very very very rare for a Chinese fantasy novel mc) but he is not perfect and there are enough moments where he makes a mistake, has to be corrected by his wives or friends or the outcome is not exactly what he wanted. This makes it easier to relate to the MC because he reacts and lives generally as you would expect of a person with his introverted personality would react in this situation. What I especially like is how he reacts to all the fighting he has to do, he doesn't like it at all but also realizes that if he wants to live the life he wants he has to fight and sometimes be ruthless. And he also realizes that if he wants to develop his system he has to continue and face anything the world throws at him. It doesn't happen very often but this is also for me the first novel where I see a Chinese MC struggle with this question. And lastly I want to see how big the universe of this novel really is and I want to know what the system eventually evolves into (and why) so for now I will keep happily reading this novel. <<less

Story start out great, good character development and story progression, but one of the thing that make me drop this novel is that the MC became OP, yet he have to be extremely careful for some reason, he literally have the strongest army to dominate the world. And that is simply before chapter 1000.

as of this review, the status of the novel is 9337 Chapters (Ongoing) . Like someone said it before, no novel should be that long. I have no clue what is beyond chapter 2000, but I won't... more>> stay to find out. <<less

Been reading when it first came out than stopped at 500 something because well the author was to slow on its update. Here I am 8 years later started to picking up again reaching 1000, me a young boy now already graduated. This novel is ok, BUT!

Story progression is slow, im fine with that... BUT! too much filler? hell no... you can even skip some chapter and you can still understand the story...

Theres too much repetitive conversations among the characters. for example A already said this, and B suddenly said that too, is that sounds funny to you? its like the characters is just a bunch of deaf....

I know that explanation for magic, skill etc is important, but what if you find it in a later chapter not just one or two... more>> chapter? and the explanation isn't just short explanation! its takes 3-4 pharagraph!

Character development sometimes feels so s*upid, maybe the author wants to make everyone the same, and theres no one perfect... but what the author did just make the character looks dumb... for example theres one occassion when MC want to reveal his secret but he confuse about it... he talk with someone here, with someone there... and the conclussion? its something that we all reader guess... and guess what? it takes a whole chapter... wow... praise for our MC... Alright, my first review of this novel as of chapter 758

The story had an exciting premise with the farm and space. The story has it's ups and downs in the interesting factor. But in the recent chapters, I keep thinking to myself. WHY DOESN'T HE DO THIS? Just because he doesn't want to kill his enemies to extinction. He doesn't but if he doesn't he's always stressed and keeps the plot going.

Spoiler

He can tell Ca'ir to take part of her body out of the demon world to starve everyone slowly and threaten them to leave or he will take it all away. Win win. But nope, threatening them is too good for him, gotta threaten them with politics and undead!

[collapse]

Then, in the recent chapters the author keeps adding more foreshadowing of higher realms of cultivation. Which is fine, if the author was almost finished with the current arc, but he just introduced the highest rank the god tier people can be. Now he's talking about the next tier above and all the tiers of those. It's like the author doesn't know how to pace himself and changes his mind so many times.

Throughout the whole story the author would tell us the subplot of every scene that happens and then have the characters re-explain everything. I understand why he did each of them if they were by themselves but he had them BOTH in the same chapter. It feels like he is only trying to add word count.

Overall rating I can give is 3/5

1-300: 3/5

300-500: 4/5

500-758: 2/5 <<less

Personally I like this because it is long and easy to read. To me, it's very relaxing when I want to take a break from the fast-paced or emotionally intense novels I come to read.

If you don't like that kind of novel don't read this. It will save you a lot of table flipping.

[collapse]

If you also want common sense in this novel, turn back before it's too late don't just rant "omg this makes no sense. How does rice grow on trees wl;jf saldfsal fsalkdf hsladkhf!!@#@!#$!@#$%!@#$%" If you are asking these questions you obviously didn't pay attention.

I personally like this novel therefore I gave it 5 stars even though it does get repetitive.
