All in all it's a good read. Can be read for a day or two so it's not really that taxing. The official translators did not finish it yet so I read the mtl version.

The only thing is that its too shallow. The story is really not that bad but the details and sequences of events just brush the surface and some parts were just left as it is.

I rated it 3.5~4 cause it's still a good (for me I guess). Bai Fumei in the 70s is the first... more>> novel I read where I learned abt the Chinese Cultural Revolution and it really piqued my interest so I've been checking other novels just like this one. <<less

I'm rating it a 3, not for the translation that's like a 5 but the story itself.

The beginning is good, it's the type of beginning that has me coming back but the author kind of veers off plot, got distracted with something new and shiny. The system itself gets abandon at one point and gets picked up when it's convenient, it's just so inconsistent.

A 4.5/5 stars, honestly a warm-hearted story with not much to stress over about. The ups and downs in the novel weren't that great that the storytelling seemed to go by smoothly.

I wouldn't say it's an awesome story, in my opinion I might actually forget the contents after a long while as there wasn't a standing point moment in the storytelling. Nevertheless, it deserves its praise as it was a lovely story based on 70s China.

The system in itself was surprising and odd for the author to incorporate, honestly didn't... more>> serve much use except for

Healing her Husband's wounds and helping a few friends

[collapse]
. I would say the author could have gone through with this novel without the system, honestly the backstory of the female lead before she died in her previous world and her family background in the current world seemed to lack any essence or building.

Honestly, with a system and a system mall, one would think that she would be going through multiple lives to bring back her husband's luck especially with how much the materials in the system were priced.

Anyway, it was a good read and I would recommend it as a slow read. I appreciated all the translators who took it upon themselves to translate this. I do remember not going through reading this because it wasn't complete and hadn't been update for quite awhile so coming back to see it is completely translate surprised me. I just finished a few novels and was looking for a new one to enjoy and this one was a great palate cleanser in terms of having to have read novels with high emotional distress.

Again, thank you for the translators hard work and I appreciated the novel recommendations in the last chapter. I'll try and check out them later and if the synopsis catches my interest then I'll gladly read it. Also give my appreciations to the author as I know making such a novel requires talent and creativity. <<less

Just a short and sweet 70s China story. It has all the the tropes you come to expect; educated youth, injured soldier ML, cooking to sell, jealous in-laws, bad neighbors, and the FL having a system. The system is more of a plot device just to move certain parts of the story along, but it isn't intrusive or overly present like in other stories of this type. The overall writing and pacing of this story are excellent, but this story doesn't really do anything that makes it special from all... more>> the other stories in this genre, except be a tight and lean story with no excess filler or obtrusive side-plots. This is about the best a story of this genre can be without doing something unique, and it's this that keeps me from giving it a higher score. <<less

3.5 but rounded up because I like it.

This story is very much slice of life with only the bare minimum of road bumps for the main couple. It's nice and fluffy but it can be a bit boring at times as there is a lot of repetition about different things.

The MC is a transmigrator who gains a system that informs her she was brought there for the sole purpose of changing the fate of the ML. At first, she is hesitant about being with the ML but the more she... more>> gets to see him and spends time with him, the quicker she falls for him. And it happens fast. Outside that, she is a mostly kind-hearted girl with a major gift for cooking. Which helps her as the system gives her points based on how good her cooking is. And her family is a complete non-entity in this story. Just straight up acts like they don't exist.

Spoiler

As it turns out, she and the ML have been lovers throughout multiple lives. However, he extended all his luck to save her in a past life so now his life is pretty terrible. Which is why she is the one who can change his fate. Her system is also a little pointless for most of the story. Other than the three warning dreams and the three things she purchases with points, it has zero impact on the story.

[collapse]

The ML is a former soldier who has suffered a horrible leg wound. A stoic man, he has been the supporter for his family since he joined the military as a teenager. His personality at the first comes across as shy and reserved but as the story progressed, he becomes a lot more fierce (whether this is his true personality or just his overprotectiveness of the MC is a little hard to tell). He gradually falls for the MC but does try to warn her off from having a relationship with him as he feels like that would only bring her down. It lasts all of about five seconds before he acts jealous of her.

Spoiler

As his luck has been used up to save the MC in a previous life, he has gone through a lot of turmoil. Injuries sustained as a child, a multitude of wounds in the military, potentially taken advantage of by con artists (MC prevents it from happening) and even having his original engagement be broken off before having the woman come to try and trap him in the typical "stole my innocence" way (again prevented by the MC). He truly views the MC as his lucky charm which makes him completely devoted to her.

[collapse]

That aside, the plot happens and I really don't have a way to describe it. I like it but it's not stellar writing. Things happen but it really is all of the cliches for this kind of novel.

Terrible sister-in-law? Check.

Someone favours boys over girls? Check.

Selling food to make money? Check.

Having a nemesis for no logical reason? Check.

Relative goes off to college? Check.

Main characters open a business? Check.

Towards the end of the story, it almost seems like it might be building up for something more but then it just ends. We have the discussion of what they planned to do but nothing beyond that. Nothing about the children all grown up, how the life between the MC and ML progresses, ultimate fate of their relatives; just a moment she has with the System telling the MC that she did a good job and the ML's fate is now fine.

So, all the negatives aside, this is an alright read for something overly light and fluffy but you'll want to look elsewhere if you want a less common plot or something with substance.

Not included in the rating:

The final translation group ends up being not all that good. While it is still readable, there are a lot of instances with wrong pronouns or names. It's still better than mtl but it can be a bit hard to read at times. <<less

Ok I read until ch 32

It's fun at first to me. I really love how both ML and FL not too dense when it comes to romance.

The thing is, up to chapter 32, I saw a lot of "patriarchal" stuff between boy and girl, or husband and wife. I know the old generation got this "son better than daughter" mindset. So it's understandable for author to mention that. But the problem is, why the heck FL, who's from modern have this reverse "treat daughter better than son" mindset? They should... more>> be treated equally.

Spoiler
  1. FL mentioned how her modern family treat daughter like a queen basically and treated the son little bit less than her. She even mentioned that the son shouldn't mind that because they need to be tough. Uhm excuse me what?? That's just gaslighting bul*sh*t. They should be treated equally.
  2. She give money to everyone that help her but not ML since he's her partner. But still want ML to share his money with her too. Hello? They're not married yet. And ML help a lot compare to Hehua (ML niece) but she got 1 yuan and he's not. Not to mention he's crippled. She's helping him too in terms of leg issue so I can't complain but still feel off about this.
  3. The old generation mostly have this "obedient wife" mindset. FL instead reverse that and have this "obedient husband" mindset. First thing first, that mindset is not good. "Obedient" in this one is the "Yes, Ma'am" one. Whatever she want or do ML be like "Sure, whatever you want". I hate this mindset so much as I think relationship involves two people, not one. Sorry if I overly make a big deal out of this.
[collapse]

Not only that, I hate how that educated youth's captain being biased of the beautiful girl, FL obviously. He give her easy work just because she looks cute and delicate but dump all hard work on other girls. It's not mentioned but obviously he think of them as ugly. Not everyone went there have strong body, but they developed from all those hard work. So don't give excuse that she never done any work before and pity her because almost all of those girls and boys never do countryside work. The hypocrisy and biased is disgusting.

My most fav characters in this would be Li Xiaoqing and Mother-in-law. <<less

Date Read: 20/04/2024

Personal Enjoyment: 3.7/5

I enjoyed the first half-ish until the MC had to stop proactively making money for fear of being reported. After that, it wasn't bad by any means, just not as enjoyable. I like the beginning translators because they included lots of pictures of the food. It increased the homey vibes. But the last translator didn't do that, unfortunately. There isn't much poor-to-rich progression sadly. And the improve quality of life progression was a lot stronger at the beginning but stopped after she moved to the... more>> military base.

I enjoyed the romance at the beginning but after the ML's leg healed, well, he kinda just became a typical military ML lol. After they got married, the romance wasn't interesting anymore so all the bonding and onscreen romance stuff I skimmed. I'm just not a huge fan of light novel romance so it's probably just my subjective opinion here. I also wasn't a fan of the whole have s*x until the FL is in a sad condition lol. The FL's kids were super cute though!

Short Summary: FL dies and transmigrates into the 70's. She has a system cheat to be able to eventually buy the items to heal the ML's disabled legs. She needs to earn points through cooking to do so. The whole story is about her cooking, trying to get close to catch the ML, getting married and moving to the army base and then living her life quietly there. Along the way, dealing with troublesome in-laws and super annoying neighbours.

Plot: 3.5/5

The main objective is for the FL to bring good luck to the ML. And they were done by her cooking and giving chances for the ML's family to make some money. And also her having dreams of the ML's bad luck so she could change the situation. In the rural area, I loved her actions of finding ways to get the ML to have an impression of her and all the heartwarming cooking scenes. She made money, she worked on getting the ML's leg cured and the romantic development was mildly interesting because the ML re****** her. Didn't read that before yet lol.

However, after she reached the army base, I felt like the progression feeling slowed a lot. The only extra thing she did was to get pregnant and make friends whose purpose wasn't to bring good luck but just to make friends lol. It felt even, that she had some trouble maintaining the level of comfort she could have had in the rural area because there, she could sell things more openly.

A thing that was a major issue with this novel is how arbitrary, vague and unmentioned the prices of the things the FL made and sold were. When the prices were counted, the total of the things were definitely wrong. And then the rest of the time, we don't know how much money anyone actually had. Like the MIL. There was this whole conflict regarding money and inheritance but we don't know if the villains really do have a leg to stand on because we don't know how much the MIL had on hand and how much of it was the new business. Then, near the end when the FL was throwing money left and right to purchase many big things and even mentioned that she was broke, but still managed to buy whatever felt so short and quick. Yeah, the author's other Makeup Artist story had a far better poor-to-rich progression that felt logical and satisfying than this.

Hmmm, also, I am not a fan of how the story handled the antagonists. Which are majorly, the in-laws. They were fine at the beginning then it felt like the author kept making them more and more annoying. And the brothers. There was really no sign that they cared about the money. So when the MC moved to the army and the mother visited and the fourth brother said the other brothers just let the wives complain to the mum and stare at her money all day long felt odd.

Honestly, the FL was more the ignore them type. So there wasn't any proper face-slapping. So the antagonists were free to be super annoying without the FL doing anything to vent those feelings. The big bad at the end too. We just kept having them being annoying, the FL giving them the cold shoulder or talking smack to them which weren't that convincing for me until the next round. Then finally, the anxiety-inducing scenes happened and it wasn't the FL to destroy them in the end. Kinda meh.

Writing/Translation: 3.79/5

The translation I read is from ISOhungry Translation from C1-C11. I liked it! 4.5/5! The translator did their research and put into things like pictures, extra info, links to the time period, the food, what modern food similar to the story looks like etc. I didn't notice any errors either.

From C12-C29, I read from Blanceboo. Not bad, it was more directly translated than previously but still full of delicious-looking food images. .

From C30 onwards, I read from Moonlight Novel. 3.6/5. And the TL is okay, still pretty readable. Lots of odd translation errors. I would say 7-9% are errors. A few sentences have some spelling errors that made me pause to think of the correct word. Still better than MTL or Flying Lines. Unfortunately, they didn't include any food pictures like the other translators which was a definite minus for me. And they also had some sentences that seemed to be missing the last few words and period.

Pacing: 3.6/5

I felt that the first half-ish was better but after moving to the army, it felt less exciting. Because she couldn't sell things openly. And it was more to maintain their lifestyle.

Setting/Worldbuilding: 3.7/5

It's a generic 70's rural setting. I think it could have been better if they had added more places and described them a lot more.

Characters: 3.8/5

I liked the characters. The FL is surprisingly forward and knows what she wants. And definitely went for it haha. Like one of the commentators said, we stan a shameless FL hahaha. Too bad she turned into those ugh my waist is sore, my legs are weak, and I overslept because of that villain tossing me every night girl.

The ML is kinda cute. A strong quiet soldier type that blushes his ear red lol. And he quickly becomes soft towards the FL after the obstacle is cleared from the relationship. He turned typical male lead after healing his leg though.

The side characters are okay too. I like the MIL haha. Such a good one. And the fourth brother is cute. I wish we had more of the FL roommates and friends. The antagonists were rather annoying lol.

Romance: 3.8/5

The romance is quite sweet and endearing. I found the FL insta liked very quickly but the ML took a bit longer which I like. They got together a bit after C20+. I am slightly annoyed that the author used the man is so vigorous in bed that the FL will have a sore waist insert FL being angry that this soreness is because of the man etc etc. I just don't get this trope. It just shows that the ML is super inconsiderate towards the FL and that he doesn't take care of the partner's feelings in bed. Why is this a good thing??? Even if it is normal to be sore, s*x is a two-person act through??? Ugh.

3.5-4

A slice-of-life story in the 70s featuring a system who gives warnings to the FL through dreams to help the ML. FL is the destined lover for ML and his lucky star. Initially he has low self-esteem due to an injury and rejects the FL's advances but then gets over it and they naturally get together and marries.

The FL is a resourceful hardworking lady. ML on the other hand is a gentle husband who dotes on his wife. They're rather dull imo personality-wise. The story shines through the other characters.... more>> So many side characters have terrible personalities - stingy daughter-in-laws, sad girls who are ostracized by their family, shrew-like MIL, snobby neighbours, misogynistic people... They're horrible characters but due to the interactions between them and the FL, they make the story worth reading.

Seriously FL encounters so many people of different characters but she remains calm in adverse situations. I did feel like there was not enough face slapping occuring and we never do find out the fate of this terrible people as the novel ends abruptly on a good note. No extra stories either. Horrible people continue to live their horrible lives. Our leads continue to prosper. The end.

I guess the author lost interest in the end as there's mentions of FL going to open a restaurant but we don't see the progression. We don't know how He Hua's fate end up either. Nor Ma Cunyui's battle with her terrible MIL. Just felt that it could be better. <<less

3.7 stars. What can I say? The majority of this trope plays out just like this novel where a talented Mary Sue falls in love with and marries a bashful ML who plays second string and whose main goal is to make the MC shine in all her kindness. The system was barely there, I mean, MC only redeemed 3 things from it and hardly showed any interest in it, and I felt that ML's "unluckiness" was a pretty weak plot seeing how ML suffered only two major catastrophes. The... more>> story was a decent casual read. Do not expect more from it than what had been written because it is as you see it. <<less

(UPDATE: 2nd Reread) Not bad! This is a relatively short and simple story that's good to read on a casual day. It's very uncomplicated, but unlike some other stories where the direction of the plot is completely aimless, the author does a good job creating character-driven developments that make you like the characters more and more. So, even if nothing truly exciting happens, you can't help but get the feels from the experience.

SUMMARY: Su Yue transmigrates to the 1970s with a system in her head. It only gives out... more>> one sole task: overturn the ML's (Han Aiguo) bad luck through effort. To help her along. She's given access to a system shopping mall and the ability to have prophetic dreams. This is not really the focus of the story though. It's just a very small part of a short slice-of-life story between an optimistic FL and a steady ML. The ML, in this case, had lived most of his life in misfortune, so her existence provided him with a new hope for the future.

THOUGHTS: I'm sticking with the rating I gave before (3.8/5!) it's pretty accurate I think? Although the novel really isn't anything special, it's still pleasant to read. And for that reason alone. I can recommend it without any guilt. (BTW: The TL is pretty good, and so is the MTL — though the names of the characters are a bit of a mess. For example: Aiguo=Patriotic/Patriotism, Aidang=LoveTheParty, etc. If you know the meaning of the names though, it's not so bad. At least, 75-80% readable.)

_______

OLD REVIEW:

Completed. 3.8/5!!! Nothing much happens. There's a SYSTEM involved, but this is a slice of life novel through and through, just with a few bells and whistles. There's a plot, it's just that the plot is exploring the ups and downs of an MC who transmigrates with a SYSTEM to overturn the bad fortune of the ML. I liked the system-tasks handed out at first, but that ends up not being too big a deal later on. The romance also becomes more understated, which made the first half a lot more exciting than the second half.

Still, I read it! The characters are pretty good, after all. The kiddos were especially charming and so are some of the side characters~ Definitely memorable in that regard. <<less

Typical educated youth sent to province to farm. She transmigrated from modern times to 70s with a system. The system did not really played a lot just told her to save th ML. ML was her partner in every reincarnation. One time, she was saved by him, and the penalty is on the next life, they won't be together and ML would leave a life full of bitterness, out of luck. She knows how to cook, so she cook to earn points to buy prescription to cure ML injured leg.... more>> They got together and got married. Some prob with sister in laws here and there. They went to live in the army camp, little trouble with neighbors,

One thing here is, she did not take the college exam since her goal is to open a restaurant. I read a similar plot, the only difference is the MC there took the exam. <<less

I really enjoyed this book. I love slice of life books and this one was very easy to read. I loved the MC and I liked how the husband pulled his own weight too. This story moved quite fast and was not as draggy as other similar books. The downfall was that it was tooooooo short and ended too abruptly. I wanted to find out what happened to all the other family members and the sons.

While reading the story I feel like it's too long-winded. I've only made it to chapter 9. Why throughout that chapter it felt like a bunch of unnecessary chatting? Just say “he's my husband!” why do we need this unnecessary bickering when a few words can solve the problem?

My rating would be 4.5

The story is good, no misunderstandings, the romance is very cute and the babies are beautiful ~ ♡

But...

Spoiler

the story is very incomplete. I'll explain why: • Parents of FL, they are known at the beginning telling that sending our protagonist to the countryside in place of his older brother, due to the society being patriarchal and sexist, I was also outraged by this and hoped that FL would visit them or they would look later for more details, but in the end it wasn't like that, they were never mentioned again, which is quite strange because despite everything they were parents of the original owner. • Out of nowhere, the system just appeared to the protagonist and it was like "look, you ended up with Han Aiguo's bad luck, so I came to say goodbye" And I was so lost! that was very abrupt, after all I thought he would have to wait until old age to be completely safe from bad luck. • Last but not least, the ending was also very difficult! The author didn't let us see her newly opened restaurant anymore, I thought it would be better because the good part of the story was about how she won everyone over with food and babies, in the part where it was mentioned that the twins should go to the best universities from China. Honestly, I think they were going to introduce us to Daobao and Xiaobao's school life, but nothing was as definitive as I thought and that's sad. I think this story had a lot of potential, but the author ended it very abruptly and incompletely. But for non-demanding readers or readers who just want to read to pass the time, I think this one is quite suitable! despite the many holes in the story, this is a very refreshing read and nothing like those smothering novels~

I really like this story, reading this is like a short vacation from reading a lot of dog blood drama novels. It's very light-hearted and very fluffy, basically little to no drama. I mtled all the chapters. Cute and wholesome, but very abrupt ending. I don't know how to put this. I want to say there were a lot of loose ends, but there wasn't much of a story to begin with. Worth a quick read, but don't go into this expecting actual, fleshed out characters.

If the ending were a little less abrupt I would give this a 3.5+. But right now, the story is just average.
