Blurb 1:

Yu Xiang’an dies unexpectedly while saving someone but wakes up as a high school student in a small county in the 1970s. Just as she’s about to celebrate her second chance at life, she faces two major challenges:

1. Her fiancé is seduced by her stepsister, who ends up pregnant.

2. She’s about to be sent to the countryside as a “sent-down youth” to farm.

Yu Xiang’an: “..This won’t do.”

With a fierce and decisive attitude, she resolves both problems in no time. But then another issue arises-how can she fall asleep at night when she’s starving?

That’s when she discovers her cheat: a farming game system!

In this era, what’s in high demand? Food and meat!

The system allows her to plant crops and harvest them instantly. With this golden finger, Yu Xiang’an stockpiles resources and eventually rises to prominence. After the reform and opening-up period, she builds a food empire, paving her way to wealth and success.

Years later, during a live interview:

The reporter asks,

“Your restaurant chain spans the country, from hot pot to fast food to five-star hotels. Many people call you the ‘King of Dining.’ What would you like to say about this title?”

Before Yu Xiang’an can answer, the live comments explode:

• “Thanks for the invite. That title’s too narrow—aside from the food court outside my door, the office building across the street also belongs to her. [hands on hips] ”

• “Not just the office building—she also owns a share in the fashion mall. [smug] ”

• “And let’s not forget, she dominates half of the cosmetics industry too. [evil grin] ”

• “Oh, and don’t overlook the first-aid kits at home. She’s got a stake in that too! [doge face] ”

Blurb 2:

Both Yu Xiang’an and Lin Chuanbai die while saving others and end up transmigrating to the 1970s.

Yu Xiang’an becomes the innocent stepsister who was cheated on by her stepsister, while Lin Chuanbai is the unlucky student whose slot at the prestigious Worker-Peasant-Soldier University was stolen. Both must adapt to their new lives, equipped with their own golden fingers.

One fateful day, they cross paths.

Yu Xiang’an: “…What a coincidence.”

Lin Chuanbai: “Yeah, really coincidental.”

Yu Xiang’an: “Did you die back then too?”

Lin Chuanbai: “Yes.”

They exchange a knowing look and walk away, pretending not to recognize each other.

The next day, they meet again—this time at the black market.

Yu Xiang’an eyes the wild ginseng in his hand. “…!”

Lin Chuanbai looks at the fat duck and apples in hers. “…!”

“Life is hard?”

Ha! The man’s/woman’s words are nothing but lies!

This is an excellently written slice of life novel. It has a bit of mild face-slapping, but overall the idea is the best revenge is to live well. That said, some of the scenes where I expect a scene to have some dog blood drama, the drama is swept past and we only vaguely hear the end result. The main characters live well and constantly improve. Their golden fingers are barely used, mostly in the background, since they much prefer to rely on their own skills; they mostly use it... more>> to quicken a result or add a little helping to survive. Also, it's a time where the government heavily regulates food and wealth, and where the population readily points fingers to report you if you're living too well without explanation.

It was a good read, but I also felt like a lot of parts were unnecessary. The novel starts from Yu Xiang'an, and then branches off towards the future generation as the novel goes on. By the end, I kinda wanted to skip a bunch and get to the juicy bits just so I could conclude the story. I just don't have time to learn about how so and so's cousin/grandchild ended up. The main bulk of the story is her starting from the bottom and raising herself up. A lot of the story is navigating the situation of the 70s in China, where regulations are rough. It doesn't really touch how her business affects the original timeline, though, lol, but the male lead's POV establishes that it's a parallel world rather than the original they came from.

In the bulk of the story, I didn't like a fair number of female antagonists. I like that there were a mixed bag of female characters that were good and bad, but all of the good ones seemed to be directly related to the Yu family, lol, and the bad eggs were just married in questionably.

Stepmother:

Spoiler

In my opinion, their stepmother wasn't actually terrible, but just didn't want her biological child/grandchildren to suffer (but yeah, Ding Mingxiu is awful). The way the family kinda just seemed to isolate her after the incident seemed iffy. Of course she's gonna try to reunite with her daughter if her "family" just treats her like air, but it is from Xiang'an's POV so it's hard to say goes on behind the scenes. On one hand, it feels like Xiang'an's dad just brought her in to be a nanny, so relationship is not guaranteed, but Mingxiu keeps referring to him as her step-father so it seemed like they were supposed to be in some sort of relationship/family situation? Honestly, it just seemed like she was a vague housekeeper that also ate the least.

If you've read other 70s-era transmigration novels with a spatial dimension, you might find the overall plot structure familiar—MC hoards supplies, gains respect, builds a career, and lives a prosperous life.

There are few dramatic twists or high-stakes conflicts. The story is more about steadily improving life, which might feel too calm or uneventful for readers who prefer fast-paced action or intense drama.

Final Verdict : If you enjoy slow-burn, slice-of-life rebirth novels with a competent, intelligent MC, a supportive ML, and a well-developed family dynamic, then this novel is a solid, comforting read. It may not be groundbreaking, but it delivers consistent quality, warm relationships, and a satisfying "work hard, live well" progression.
