This is not really that bad it has potential but I'm dropping this.. Why? It's because of the MC IMO he's too much of a hypocrite good person, although nothing too bad might happen since there is no tragedy tag but if it's another novel what the MC is doing will definitely go towards the BAD END..

This is one of the type of person which makes me uncomfortable someone who is too much of a good person in the wrong way in a wrong place. The last straw that made... more>> me give up is how he dealt with the assassin really just hand him to the military? He even knows that letting him go would bring him endless trouble he is still unwilling to kill him, although I don't really hate Ravi I want her to die in front of MC just because I want to make him wake up from his delusions, that's how bad the MC is for me. (Sorry for those offended)

Too bad this might have potential but this kind of MC is really annoying. Well at the least at chp30 it doesn't deserve a 1 star <<less

MC is your OP character with a good heart and trusts people easily, to the point he seems naive. People also trust him because he's a genuinely good guy. He's very humble despite being super strong.

Spoiler

Early in the story he finds out that he was cursed and that was the reason he couldn't use magic like before – he thought he was getting weaker due to his age (he's not even 40, imo he's not old at all). Even after finding out that his "friend", the hero from his former party, was most likely the one who casted the curse upon him, he didn't even get angry. He's more confused/sad than angry, and bear in mind that this curse almost cost him his like. Now he's looking for this hero. Is it for revenge? Of course not. He just wants to know why the hero did this.

[collapse]

I like him. Sometimes I have to roll my eyes at him because of his ingenuity and his urge to help everyone and spare his enemies, but overall, he's a pretty cool dude. It's very satisfying watching his enemies getting dumbfounded by his powers. Warning: it's possible you may get a little annoyed by his ingenuity.

The fMC here is Ravi, a little girl who's in the care of MC. She's a very shy and cute girl, and a very obedient child. Some people may think it's unrealistic a well-behaved child like her, but I think the key is her past. She clearly suffered a lot before finding MC. Being one (if not the only) of the few people who has ever treated her well, she quickly gets attached to MC. To not raise suspicions, they start to pretend to be father and daughter.

Honestly, I find it a bit meh how quickly the two of them got close to each other and how fast they accepted the father and daughter thing, but it's not something that really bothers me bc the two of them are likeable characters and the story is not bad. Also, I'm a sucker for family dynamics, sooooo...

The translation is very good. Kudos to the translator, you've definitely made this novel even more enjoyable. I recommend this novel, it's a really good read to pass the time. <<less

To be honest, I am heartbroken. I loved this story and cherished every moment reading. There are so many moments where I laughed out loud or yelled “AWWW.”

Worse, the story has so much potential and I read all 96 chapters before realizing the author dropped the story.
In the future, should the author ever continue this work, that someone will translate it because this story is pure adorable fluff.

I really enjoy it.

OP MC and cute daughter traveling together.

manga shows more personality than the book though, probably the translators fault for not bringing it to life as much.

Really cool read!

Since this novel is a slice of life one, it is inevitable that it's going to be character driven. But, I can't see how that will work out for this novel.

The MC is a 37 yo adventurer who has been adventuring for 22 years, but he still hesitates in killing animals. Even if he's introduced as a very kind person, his kindness is instead frustrating to read and came out more like forced. For example, in chapter 7, there's this guy who suddenly came and started rummaging through the MC's... more>> bags without asking because this guy thought the MC stole his prey. But the MC just stood there and let him rummage and make a mess out of his bags. Also, when the guy cut up Ravi's makeshift bag shoes, can't he see that the bags are empty? And it is also a "bag", there is absolutely no reason for him to cut it up.

It'll be fine if a person with the MC's personality is a side character that only occasionally appears, but it does not fit a main character's personality. I'm not about to read a frustrating novel with an overly kind pushover as an MC letting everyone take advantage of him. His supposed experience as an adventurer and his action didn't match.

There's also the problem with forced plot. It turned out the MC's illness is actually a curse, but the MC never thought about testing if it's a curse or at least trying to cast dispel curse on himself. That just makes the MC look s*upid and more frustrating. And also, when the MC found the hero Alan's ring after he accidentally dispelled his own curse, he automatically thought that Alan is the guy who cursed him. It just does not make any sense, how can you reach that conclusion after just seeing the ring? I feel like there should at least be some thoughts and doubts going through his head before making that decision.

I had enough of reading frustrating beta kind-hearted MC whose entire existence is just to damage your mentality for absolutely no reason. <<less

Hmm, well, firstly, hmm hmm, I think the slice of life tag is inappropriate.

Spoiler

Specifically, the tag description says "no clear central plot". Whilst there is no 'hero's journey' type plot as yet, there is a goal, after the first few chapters at least. Namely, to bring the little girl to the town he's familiar with and settle her and/or settle down with her. It's approximately equivalent to The Last of Us, in that specific regard, it is a Dad novel.

There is also the side goal of finding out the truth of his own curse from the hero, as well. So yeah, slice of life doesn't fit.

[collapse]

Now, that's not to say the tag is entirely inappropriate, since a fair amount of the novel is devoted to building the relationship between the two leads. However, none of that time is spent with meandering nothingness, something I personally dislike in most slice of life novels. In other words, this time is not wasted, the relationship building happens organically through the events of the story. So, ya, tag is inappropriate both in the letter of its definition, and in the spirit in which it is typically used.

Allrighty, now with that done lets review the novel :)

Characters are good, likeable. Even the theoretical pseudo-villain probably has some reasons, which may or may not be relatable if not sympathetic. A little bit predictable in terms of plot points so far, but nothing too majorly obvious.

I like the magic/skills system so far, seems like its rather common to have some, as in there aren't really class distinctions between those who have magic and those who don't. Though there is a Monarchy, with Nobles that can apparently abuse their power somewhat, so class struggles are still on the table in general terms.

Spoiler

Also, there's at least some mind/memory reading magic so far, but it requires permission it seems. I sure hope the permission is required, anyway. Otherwise it could get dark. :/

[collapse]

Anyways, not much more to say, at 14 chapters in this is a strong start.

And, fin. <<less
