Not reading cause the guy I think is ML (not her ex tho) ain't my type might come back later. MC seems pretty capable and she stands up for herself so far.

About her freezing the engagement. She wanted to end it initially but then the guy refused. So basically had he agreed the engagement ends nicely, everyone is good. Since he refused, she could still break it because everyone knows he been cheating though he didn't get the girl. She decided to freeze it because the guy is the heir... more>> and damaging his reputation affects the whole count house and she didn't want to have to bear that on her shoulders. So basically he's waiting for her to just get over it and marry him and she's waiting for him to agree to break it off. Rather than being petty her only crime is being too nice.

Basically her ex wasted 10 whole years of her life for nothing. She was even willing to forgive his cheating had he apologised, he just didn't have the guts to say anything to her and just asks her parents to approve the marriage once a year. And he lets dumb rumours that she's the one hanging onto him float around.

note: the engagement also makes it convenient for her to continue working as a lady in waiting bc she'd have responsibilities if she got married. And the princess was 9 at the time she started working and plenty vulnerable. <<less

MC feels very petty.

She finds her fiancé flirting with a princess at a ball (not in a relationship). Instead of annulling the engagement or talking it out, she freezes the engagement for 10 years and refuses to talk to him.

Fiancée isn't much better. He wasn't really cheating but refuses to communicate the misunderstanding or annul the engagement.

All conflict in this feels like self inflicted passive aggressiveness.

Summary of the story I read so far (Chapter 10 part 1), it basically as this;

FMC Fiancee "I love other woman but I want to marry you. Not sorry for what I did too. Please love me as what I am."

FMC "Screw you!"

That's it. The guy fall in love with the princess, but he still want to marry FMC, and she won't have that. You can just drop the engagement in modern world (and maybe flamed him on SMS) but this is Aristocrats setting, if the guy's house (Count Rank)... more>> dissolve the engagement, the engagement doesn't work, no question ask. But if she do (Viscount Rank), she need to provide the cause for it, which mean propagate that he give his heart to someone else who isn't his fiance, and it basically not ruin just the Guy's reputation but his house too, which will make some unwanted ire. His family didn't do anything wrong.

However, if the guy just dissolve the engagement, all will be end, but he didn't. He still held the same thought as above for 10 years, still not understand what he did wrong (or maybe he did, but it didn't show so far).

More problem to the mix, FMC got traumatized by the betrayal (imagine that happen to 15 y/o girl), she just drop everything related to the girl stuff, fled to the academy, and become lady-in-waiting (plus mother/teacher) for the queen-to-be (the queen was 9 at the time and now she's legal 18). She got blank 9 years worth of not being a woman and basically can't be one at this point, so she need rehab for it.

Even more fun to it? Her circle of friends (consist of high rank people and the queen herself) also want her to be happy, which mean to get FMC, you need not just battle but a siege-the-castle level of effort at this point.

Quite fun if you like these kind of plot for shoujo manga. A good read, though it just drama at this point. <<less

Giving this a rating higher than it actually deserves because it looks like folks are dissing it a little strongly. It's a 4 star or (at the lowest) a high 3 star. The MC is a little inconsistent for comedy's sake. She's made choices to keep her life comfortable and is the highest aide to the Crown Princess (now the Queen.) Considered dour and unpleasant by many, she's actually high spirited and fun loving.

At this point, I don't know who the ML is, or if there is one, but... more>> her fiance seems to be not it, so that's good. I'm sure there's a good explanation for why he and the other princess looked like they were having an affair and why he refused to break off their engagement for 10 years or whatever, but he's lame.

The other men in our MC's life seem to be trying to form a reverse harem and she's blissfully oblivious, which is the reason I would dock stars, if I were rating this honestly. I get it that her weird engagement is hanging over her head, but these guys are so totally throwing themselves at her that it's weird to think she has no idea that she's popular/pretty etc. <<less

I accidentally tapped two stars, wanted to give four.

I have mixed feelings about this novel. MC is an intelligent woman and it was fun to read how she slapped her fiancé with her words and especially her inner thoughts were hilarious. However, sometimes it's hard to understand what is happening and why, I don't know if the original version is this complicated linguistically or the translation is incorrect, though. But from time to time I feel lost. Also, the romantic element is not progressing at all, practically doesn't exist, instead... more>> we read an interesting intrigue but somehow that plotline was not closed sufficiently but another plotline has already started in Vol2. I had more questions than answers at the end of Vol1 and my questions multiplied at the first couple of chapters in Vol2 but the author doesn't show a sign that these questions will be answered later. So, it has a potential to become an overall interesting novel but could deteriorate too. <<less

I started reading the translation, which did a really good job but there's some tenses and character titles that are a little confusing.

To start off, this is a spoiler but it's also in the description...

Her fiance fell in love with the future consort of the second prince. Sometimes the translation calls her a queen, but she's not married to the king, just his younger brother, so princess (or future duchess).

I think because the king has a young queen ... more>>
Spoiler

married a child and they're preparing for the first bedroom night at 18 years old now, it's been 10 years and it's all political and they have a good relationship

[collapse]
that the second prince is still in the palace and not kicked out. Once the queen has a child the right of succession goes to them. So there's some political intrigue going on, but the story is overshadowed by her fiance and his star-crossed love with the second princess.

Spoiler

in fact apparently her fiance has been sending gifts that have been stolen and that's the source of the scandal.

[collapse]

There's just nothing to be done to redeem her fiance. He's a spineless cad and you don't really get any satisfaction from their interactions together.

I want more from this, maybe the manga is more polished. <<less
