Seeing his declining sect, Lin Fan established the following rules:

1. Those surnamed Xiao, Ye, Shi, or Lin will be given priority for admission.

2. Those who like to talk to themselves with rings or other objects will be given priority for admission.

3. Those who have survived more than three near-death experiences and whose fiancée has a mysterious background will be given priority for admission.

4. Those who have been had their engagement broken and their parents have mysteriously disappeared will be given priority for admission.

5. Those who are targeted and deliberately made things difficult for as soon as they arrive outside the sect gate will be given priority for admission.

6. Those who like to wear a mysterious smile on their lips and whose enemies also like to laugh “jie jie jie” will be directly designated as personal disciples.

7. Those who have had their bones dug out and are on the verge of death will be directly designated as personal disciples.

8. …

One day, the Fifth Elder reported: “Sect Leader, great news! Someone outside has been disengaged, wears a mysterious smile on his lips, and also likes to talk to a ring! His parents are also missing?”

“What? Quickly bring him in. I will accept him as my… By the way, what is his name?”

“It seems his surname is Tang.”

“Surnamed Tang?! Wait, don’t bring him in. This Sect Leader will personally take action to shield the heavenly secrets and write a letter for you to take and introduce him to the opposing sect…”

“Remember to be tactful! Also! From today onwards, this Sect Leader is going into seclusion. Under no circumstances should you call this Sect Leader out of seclusion unless it is extremely important!”

“Oh right, be sure, be sure to keep a close eye on all the sect’s secret manuals, lest they be stolen!”

Fifth Elder: “Huh?!”

4-4.5 stars

A little immersion breaking due to the tropes, but it's a fun part of the story

... is what I would have said before reading chapter 74

...

You know the drill, really in your face racism stuff... guess I'll have to wait and see if this is a 1 off thing, or just another trap novel that starts off good before devolving into "CN vs outsiders"

edit: what I consider to be racist / too nationalistic in that chapter

Spoiler

In addition to various strange conditions, the sect rules included three questions.

This was one of them, along with two 'music questions.'

The second question: sing the "March of the Volunteers, " and the third question: I recite, you sing.

The third question had three parts: "The vast horizon is my love, " "Wumeng Mountain connects with mountains outside, " "In your heart, fly freely."

The rules stated that even if you didn't meet other conditions, as long as you could answer these three questions, you could join the Lan Yue Sect as an inner disciple!

Xiao Ling'er didn't understand the significance of these rules.

But Lin Fan was very clear.

These days, which time traveler isn't a 'protagonist'? Even if not, they have some golden finger!

As for why these questions were set, it was simple.

To exclude those fifty thousand and those with wolfish ambitions.

Watching the Spring Festival Gala and listening to Phoenix Legend doesn't guarantee a good person, but if they can't even sing the national anthem, haha...

Moreover, if they were truly 'our own, ' how could they not know "Wumeng Mountain"?

[collapse]

This is a huge warning sign

Nothing has happened yet and I still like the novel

... But how will MC act?

He is fine with Natives as has been established, and he is fine with Chinese protagonists.... but what about a transmigrator/reincarnator protagonist who is not from China? or who doesn't know the Chinese national anthem? <<less

First of all the chapters are 2-3 times larger than normal so it's a really long read. It's a thick book.

The story and concept are both interesting and well knit. It keeps you hooked. The story is not solely focused on the MC and follows all the different characters in a well told way.

There are modern elements in the story but they are just only touched on the surface till the chapter I have read and haven't gone deeper into the modern concept which I like as it doesn't ruin... more>> the xianxia world feel.

The romance part is just there for the sake of the tag and not well thought out. Same with some of the events where there should be a more solid reason to convince the audience but it is half hearted. (Eg- I took out a $100 note and bought something and told you the note was fake and I scammed the shopkeeper. You believed me without any questions asked. That's how some of the interactions in this story goes.) It's like MC has 150 IQ while the rest of them have 20 IQ.

The MC of the story may have been any one of the disciples and it will still be the same story. <<less

The premise is refreshing since it's the first time I've experienced it, and the characters and the MC have some personality, which I like. The enemies aren't complete bozos, either, which is nice... I will say, this novel breaks fourth walls somewhat by acknowledging various tropes within cultivation novels, which entails enemies falling into the inevitable intelligence debuff brought about by plot armor, but it isn't too egregious heretofore.

I think it has potential, although I'm only cautiously optimistic, as I feel like the plot/story/premise may be prone to quality degradation.... more>> That said, it is a five-star story so far. Depending on how the sect develops, how the various protagonists, and how the main character interact with the sect and the world, this novel might actually turn out well. <<less

This is real good. If you’re looking for a fun, light read and focussing on just the fun plot in the premise, this is for you. If you are looking for a more serious read with deep character developments, or complex plots, this is not for you.

The main character is insanely boring, your run of the mill extremely overpowered gamer transmigrator. Every chapter with him is just "blah blah blah, I'm going to do this because it's optimal" or "share power! Woah! I've unlocked sword slaying slash slinging slasher! The mega ultra secret skill!".

The secondary characters are fairly fun to read though. They're also overpowered, but there's some story and character growth for them.
