I don't think the rating does the novel justice (3.8 stars at the time). I think it's a cute romance/slice of life novel. It has its occasional drama, but who doesn't love it? There's no spousal abuse or neglect when it comes to MC/ML's arranged marriages. They seem to match each other pretty well. With one incident that threw the relationship in a loop, they're pretty tight together as a couple. Granted the MC had no expectation for the marriage to go well and foresaw a divorce after the ML... more>> accomplished his revenge. The ML, like it's said in the book, the perfect gentleman since day one. But not the perfect husband sadly. He's more work orientated.

Some people say they don't like the MC because she's too reliant on the ML. In my opinion, it's started out as an arranged marriage, so there had to be some benefits for both sides. She didn't ask for the help either, the ML took it upon himself to help, so I mean... And the number of times he did help her can be counted in one hand. Most of the time she bounced ideas off of him to get a second opinion on stuff.

It does have a darker tinge on the MC's side and her past. (There is hints/mention of su*cide and death) But it makes me love her more since she's overcome it and working to build up her confidence. Her father/step-family is utter poop though. SMH.

Overall the novel is a quick pick up and reads in one day (at least if you MTL). The translator does an amazing job at translating. But I'm just an impatient bu*t to wait. :) Definitely recommended to read. <<less

Hm.. it's not bad that's for sure. I actually really want to like it. However, it's just kind of... hm emotionally dry? I'm not sure though if it's because maybe it has a slow pacing or something? Hm.. or is it because there is a lot of telling and very very little showing?

To be fair, at least it's not overly annoying with its bad characters and feels fairly logical, however I feel very little emotional connection between these two even disregarding the sudden marriage. I think it is probably the... more>> writing a bit. <<less

I love this novel, the MC being apathetic is quite understandable due to her upbringing, including how she must fend on her own, earn her own money, and was very much looked down on and forgotten by her original family.

Though I understand the money aspect of hers, continues to work despite getting a credit card and having to deal with her internship, its kind of frustrating ... more>>
Spoiler

when she continues to blow off the pottery house, because she originally could only work weekends because she begged, and then she kept taking time off in a row due to her marriage situation.

Like I found that to be cringy, as she has an okay relationship with her husband (on the level of of platonic at the very least), but then she decides to take time off for a different part time job with her friend for more money, this occured the week after she got married and had to take off time then as well.

Then has to take time off for horse riding, to which the pottery employer is annoyed but is under the impression that she's into a forced marriage to help her family. So he just feels bad and still keeps her on as employee. Even giving her free materials as she creates pottery for her husband.
Like seriously, I understand this trope of course. But when she keeps taking time off, I always feel bad for the employer who feels he needs to help her keep this job, when she obviously knows herself she doesn't need it. Like dude likes her as an employee, but still didn't need to keep her on and even expressed that, but still did it as a favor to her as she begged. Like yes she still needed that job before she got married, but now that she is married, wouldn't that just inconvenient to the employer that she becomes more and more busy with her internship and marriage.

I guess it seems that's shes naive enough to accidently take that situation for granted, not really taking in account for the position of the employer. Like I love the MC, buts shes not dumb enough to not see how this is taking advantage of her boss in some way, as she doesn't intentionally take time off to screw with him, but continues to say she wants to work there and then takes time off like every other week.

I don't know it's just the one thing I don't like about this novel so far.

[collapse]

I found the beginning to be weirdly satisfying so far, as so far the half sister isn't being totally mean and harassing her and just treating her as she doesn't exist. Which I find to be refreshing as it still fits with the character, while not doing something that may seem semi-illegal. <<less

It's actually quite decent and the translate is very good. But just like someone said above, it kinda "emotionally dry". Although I'd say it's not emotionally dry but the author is lacking in presenting the romance. She should write more dialog and less description about what the character think. Now I am at chapter 92 and having difficulty of reading another chapter. It felt bland. I'm dropping this.

I really enjoyed this novel up to a certain part. I liked the he slow build of their relationship and how they both tried to make things work.

But then something happened that ruined the story for me. I don't expect characters to be perfect, and enjoy seeing them grow. However, finding out that the ML had withheld certain information from the FL was pretty shocking. It was unthinkingly cruel and I just don't think he ever seemed himself, or really understood the gravity of what he did. His grandfather I... more>> thought showed much more repentance than he did. Basically, all the men in this story, apart from her boss/partner treated the FL like crap at one stage or another and none of it was at all justified. She was always innocent but everyone felt fine repeatedly hurting her. Ugh! I will not be rereading this as I lost all respect for the ML. <<less

This book is realistic and relatable. The romance is fluffy and has a very good pace. There is a bit of angst but is really worth the growth of both MC and ML

Spoiler

The MC and ML personality and characteristic were bound by their family circumstances and that is relatable to us readers. Later they both discovered what is valuable to them and mold their own view and will.

I just love that MC didn't immediately succumb to ML's love after the big thing but she has her own view and pride and let ML has a taste of his own wrong doings.

I hope you guys give this series a chance despite the low ratings (under 4). This book is really heartwarming with its clear plot and humane relationship between main characters ❤️ <<less

i... quite like the MC (╹▽╹). although the beginning is a bit anti-climactic but if you read more, it seems to fit the MC's personality~ even though she grew up in that kind of family, she's still carefree. or actually she's apathetic to many things around her just to protect herself. this character might be boring to many readers. but this suites my taste so i'll continue reading this~

UPDATE: it's very fluffy~ uwu. the plot is cliche, but I enjoyed the sweetness yay~

This book is good and quite surprising. It's starts off as a classic cinderella story, only in this case the father is alive but just doesn't care for MC. I love how it progresses they fall in love gradually, fall out of love instantly or at least FL did, then fall in love again beautifully. It is quite realistic.

Among all novels of similar genre and setting, this one is definitely lacklustre. Generic damsel in distress FL, generic best in everything ML, and really really not very well paced. But mostly the pacing. I could tolerate all kinds of FL and ML as long as the story was right but this was, in all honesty, a very boring read. Ngl, I skimmed, scanned, and skipped. For the sake of 90+ chapters I’ve tolerated, I wanted to commit to the end but it’s impossible.

If I have to list things I... more>> did like, there’s none. FL wasn’t anything special without her good looks, as she’s not entirely spineless, not entirely doormat, but not entirely cynical either, and especially not a fighter. She’s really an average jane (not an insult), the only thing that stood out for me is the author’s repeated emphasis on her brown, clear eyes. ML is your typical seen-everywhere black belly but with gentle facade, business giant who could solve and do anything that every female swoons over. The plot’s basically cinderella + career building. Reflecting on it, I was just senselessly stubborn to finish this. <<less

This novel is a gem! It's very true to its listed genres. I added a few tags here to allow others to find this story. The author did a great job at characterization and the character development is observed with all the major characters. The plot is not amazing as compared to other arranged marriage stories, but it is expected since it's a Slice of Life novel. Now viewing it from a Slice of Life angle, the storytelling was done well. The author really let me see the growth of... more>> their relationship, how they were not instantly in love. They grew to love each other as time passed by.

The climax of the story left me in tears. The MC really shined through when they reached that major conflict. I find her thoughts and actions to be relatable. She's very in line with what a strong woman would look like. Her character is amazing because she really allows the readers to see the events from a normal person's point of view. The ending of the "villains" in the story was not explained well. After *this event* happened, it's as if the villains magically disappeared. I don't have much to complain though because they were just thorns right from the start. The event I'm talking about:
Spoiler

Father Su went to jail because he was guilty of mu*der. He did not kill by himself, but he plotted a conspiracy on how to kill someone and he succeeded. Our MC inherited the Su business thanks to He Yu, so yeeey!

At first, I'm afraid to read it because of tragedy tag but I'll glad that this was just novel with heartwarming plot, full of fluff and ended well. Both leads were well-written and got depths. Their growth as couple was well-developed and I like the pace of how they build relationship/trust with each other.

FL (Su Qiuzi) was emotionally strong... (not literal physically strong with faceslapping ability) but no matter what problem she faced she remained on standing taller. She's adaptable, reasonable and positive person. Meanwhile, ML (He Yu) was a... more>> gentleman, considerate and well-mannered.

They seemed to look perfect... but actually they were flawed. FL having sad past and her experiences made her create emotional barriers despite her bright personality, meanwhile, ML seemed to be robot programmed to be perfect husband/boss/son with bottling his own emotions for the sake of his reliable image. I like how they conquered their own flaws to build more solid marriage.

This was really a good novel... the only con I noticed was many supporting characters were passerbys and forgotten. But maybe, the author didn't emphasize their existence bc the leads didn't care about them and not important (just strangers) to their lives (like stepmom, half sis, high school classmate, etc) <<less

This novel deserves to be highly rated! It was well written with very reasonable dialogues, mature characters and real problems in work, family relationships and in love life. The climax was very well done +5, (although at the end, translator didn't care about proof reading)

This novel is not for easily excitable people though. This novel is for adults that appreciates a steady, mature and straightforward relationship, where communication is the key, and lack thereof can break said relationship.

Our FL grew before our ML, although she's the one with... more>> the trauma. I think because her personality really lacks love but also because she hopes to be loved. ML grew later.

The first part, it felt like He Yu was too perfect, and then climax happened, and he becomes much more relatable. Because he needed that wake up call, he needed that break to grow, and I love to see that.

I don't agree with other reviews that said they fell in love fast. 2-3 years after marriage to fall in love was too fast? Lol how, where?

Also, that she fell out of love? Huh? Did we read the same novel. She was dealing with her pain while giving him time to think their relationship through, that doesn't sound like falling out of love to me. More like character growth.

Anyway, I'm glad I picked up this novel. I've been shuffling around looking for novels with actual mature, and thinking characters for a while now, and this did not fail. <<less

This story doesn’t have a particularly unique premise but there’s some things it does extremely well for this genre:

  • great handling of consent, boundaries, and s*x positivity in relationships
  • a realistic, gradual falling in love in an arranged marriage
  • better EQ in main characters
  • no misunderstandings just for the sake of it—love rivals serve other purposes in the story and don’t hinder or harm the main couple
I love the heroine’s mentality. She is strong and fiercely positive despite everything she’s suffered all her life. She accepts her husband’s help and relies on him when... more>> needed, but also makes her own decisions and he supports her without having to step in all the time. I like seeing him help her come up with solutions that she still has to carry out on her own. It helps that although he is a rich CEO, his company isn’t in the same industry as her broadcasting work so there’s not much he can really do to advance her career under the table anyway.

That said, the ML’s character development was really good, too. Even though he isn’t the cold, domineering type, he had plenty of his own baggage and issues that he had to overcome to properly be with the FL and treat her as she deserves. He makes mistakes despite his good intentions and I do think he sufficiently atones and tries to change afterward.

The only downside is I feel characters other than the main couple weren’t really fleshed out as much. For example, there’s a lot of (relatively major!) characters who we don’t get any closure with. They just sort of disappear. But I suppose once they’ve served their purpose, we don’t really need to hear about them again...

Anyway, this is a hidden gem I’ll definitely be revisiting! <<less

Tbh, this story is good. Not as bland as what the review said.

ML is a sweetheart so far but Idk for sure when I read other spoilers about ML. Meanwhile, MC has a heartbreaking background and I really sympathize with her. Growing up in a family who didn't want her when It's supposed to be a safe haven. Thankfully it seems one good thing came up, that ML and MC can be together due to circumstances.

This story is actually quite good. There's a bit of "Cinderella" vibe in this and there's also a bit of "Romeo and Juliet" (but less tragic one of course).

Spoiler

MC was like Cinderella. Her mother died early and she was left with a father, stepmother, and half sister. Unlike Cinderella who was loved by her father, MC was loathed by her father because of her mother's betrayal in the past. Because of it, her stepmother and half sister also treated her badly.

As for the story of Romeo and Juliet, MC and ML's family had old grudge that made both family's relationships tense for years. ML's grandfather hated MC's family and consequently, he hated MC too while MC's father, although he was afraid of ML's status, he also tried to scheme against him behind his back (although in the end, he was schemed by ML instead).

[collapse]

But despite of how good the plot was, I still deduce 1 ⭐ from this story because MC's attitude rubbed me the wrong way.

Spoiler

I don't like MC's attitude towards money. I know that she desperately wanted her own house but still it didn't mean she could take advantage of her boss's kindness to repeatedly take a leave for personal reason because she didn't want to let go of her part time job with stable income. And even though ML already gave her money for her expense, she still shamelessly asked for discount from time to time from her boss. I know she didn't want to use ML's money and she used her own money instead but still it wasn't good to be too stingy.

She also mentioned that she didn't want have anything to do with her family anymore but she still accepted her father's money for buying a car and a house. I know it was her right but she shouldn't act so righteous in the first place if in the end she was still going to accept the money.

Also, she always said that she wanted to be independent and made an effort for herself but in the end, she still used ML's name to secure her job in tv station. It's kind of contradictory with her "righteous" image.

Not halfway yet, ch 70, but I'm enjoying the romance. It's low-key but it's so warm-hearted. It's really good. Now I'm expecting some angst but hopefully it's a happy ending. The ML is a workaholic but he still pampers the FL. I like how he listens to her and make her feel cherished. It's not the usual doting, dog-food type but it's realistic with just the right amount of sweetness.

COMPLETED

After finishing the novel, I still think this is one of the best story I've read. There is an equal amount... more>> of fluffiness, warm-hearted story, and romantic angst from separation when everything was revealed. What I like:

Spoiler

What they have is a business marriage and they have been open-minded about it from the start. Especially SQ. She accepted the marriage because it makes no difference to her and she would be free of his father's house where she has been neglected and bullied. But even so, there's no hesitation when it comes to being intimate. I though she would be coy and he would wait for her to be more comfortable, but no. They got it on immediately. They have a good relationship, better than people who married for love. They respect each other's space and support each other like real partners. HY is a very good husband, even if he's workaholic, and he wants to stay together even after he has accomplished the business side of the marriage.

I really like the part of the story where SQ has never received warmth from her family. But the cold business marriage gave her the familial love she's lacking. He never dictates her and she takes the chance to ask his advice when she needs it. I mean, they talk and I think that's good. Although, he betrayed her trust by not telling her about her mom, it's good that he respected her need for space after that, and realized how much he needs her. You can't consider it lying, but also withholding information from her because he thought it would affect her much, which was a miscalculation from him. The reconciliation is handled well. And the story ended well.

Like many other readers, I found the novel rather bland. Pretty, poor girl marries handsome, rich, powerful and smart guy, and the whole novel is about them being sweet to each other. The villains were mentioned in passing, and posed no challenge to the all-wonderful ML There was no angst, hardly any growth and no depth.

The Foxaholic site also had many missing chapters. I'd normally be very upset about this, but for such a bland story, I don't feel like I've missed much.

This novel is good to pass time. But personally I don't enjoy it.

I don't know if I am the problem but I can't integrate myself into the novel. It feels like I'm just a bystander watching a novice play.
    • I didn't feel happy when MC or ML is happy.
    • I didn't feel sad when they are sad.
    • I don't even feel irritation and hatred to those "supposed to be" b*tches and scumbag characters.
The plot is okay but I can't reread this novel.

What I want in a novel is a story that I can put myself into. Like experiencing another life through novels.

Wow. I actually felt like I got sucker punched when the story went dramatic. I, for one, actually was enjoying the drab and slow relationship of our MC's. I actually felt kind of betrayed because I hadn't seen the tags and was thinking this was going to be one of those drama-less slow mellow romances. The reviews that have rated before really getting deep into the book have clearly entirely missed the reason why this novel has the drama tag.

The rapid growth of the ML and his repentance was heartrending.... more>> I was bawling my eyes out.....

If you can appreciate the way this couple slowly and gently integrate into each other's lives.... Then this one is a gem. <<less
