What’s not to love about my new life after transmigrating into a Pet-centered world?

There are mighty creatures that come in all shapes and sizes. They can either be cuddly companions, helpers in your daily life, daring scouts or strong fighters. Or all of the above. Not bad, huh?

I have a family, but the fact is completely overshadowed by my younger sister. She thoroughly hates my guts, and she makes sure that I know this. Every. Single. Day.

Did I mention that she’s disgustingly talented while I am a bottom feeder? A terribly handsome one at that.

I have free rein to run the family business on my own. A small and quaint Pet Store. It should have been great if not for the fact that the previous owner of this body was born with ZERO affinity to handle Astral Pets…

It wouldn’t be a proper transmigration without a gimmick or a system to pave my road to greatness, don’t you think? I have one, but I don’t know if I would be better off without it…

This novel has sentimental value to me so take this review with a grain of salt.

This was the first Chinese translated novel I read. I came for the pets and stayed for the cultivation and have been actively reading the newest chapter for way to long.

The story is fun, the MC isn't that bright but he has a lot of charm, you never don't have enough information and always feel that you are at the same level of understanding of the MC (about the world).

The best quality of the novel... more>> is the setting and universe it takes place in. The vast sci-fi and cultivation universe that spreads from the beginning of the universe-spanning billions of years, even hinting at a multiversal level setting. The pet shop element is used incredibly, always leaving room for more development and growth. There is also a great amount of foreshadowing hinting at various events here and there that pull you into the lore of Astral Pet Store deeper.

10/10 from me and I hope you all enjoy it too. <<less

Was going to rate it 5 stars to try and offset the reviews I feel are slightly unfair but I don't really like doing that so giving my actual star rating (4).

Note that the 4 stars here are with the expectations of a Chinese Web Novel, no one should be expecting the standards of western or any other in this case and it does not make sense to review it as such (but if I needed to then...1.5 stars)

Given it is a cultivation / pet-based novel (in that order,... more>> despite the title name... cultivation is definitely more of the focus) it inherits the pros and cons of those genres.

Given that there are so many 1 star reviews I feel it would be better to try and go through the major points I see and detail if they are wrong or if there is more to it.

(Putting these in spoiler boxes because the review got long)

Firstly Plot...

Spoiler

Brief summary (actually spoiler)

Spoiler

Blue Planet:

MC gets system and shop and tries to grow himself in his city and the shop eventually finding success with it
MC explores more out of the city and discovers more about his planet, leads to him becoming more involved with the forces outside
MC discovers the threats incoming and becomes deeply involved
Resistance against the threat and final battle, climaxing with him finally reaching legendary.
Note that this filled with mini plot points etc, some feel like filler but the novel actual does a surprisingly good job having it all fit in the grand scheme of it all. At this point the MC has left the "slow" phase of growth, which you can find in any cultivation/power based novel.

Galaxy:

MC must move shop to another planet because the system is a d*ck and grows his reputations again, this time of a new planet level.
(This is where the "true plot" starts focusing more on the full world instead of the microcosm of his planet/shop) He further grows in strength, is noticed and ends up fighting for a competition.
Obviously wins and then proceeds to keep going on different adventures to further grow himself.
All the while, he quite literally grows closer to the truth of the world experiences moments about people sacrificing themselves to stop different threats, whether that be stopping an invading species or against "heaven" (important) themselves
This theme of going against "heaven" and that "heaven" isn't what it seems is repeated throughout. In fact, on the Blue-Planet part of the story the MC had already gained an interest in "heaven" and found the finger of a powerful being called "heaven killer". This continues...
(There is also the reveal of an incoming world-wide threat of the levels of space colliding by the Celestial state humans.)

[collapse]

Overall, the idea there is no overall plotline at all is pretty s*upid given there just is ("System-Origin" (This one isn't explored much yet, will point the system is probably not an ai unlike other reviews compare it to), "Deep Caves", "Heaven Killer / Successor", and "Space Colliding") , introduced in roughly that order. ("Deep Caves" is resolved before leaving the MC home planet) Others are currently constantly being revisited with new information..."Heaven" and the "System" seem to be overall arching plots for the WHOLE story whilst "Deep Caves" and "Space Colliding" are plots to move the MC forward.

As I said in the spoiler section the novel before leaving the Blue Planet definitely has a lot of sub-plot-lines. But they are usually to get the MC to go out and find some information for the plot (since he otherwise wouldn't leave the shop, later goes out more willingly when he wishes to gets the drive to continually get stronger to protect himself and others) and, at least I believe, they are pretty well connected in the grand scheme of that section of the novel. Whether they are "boring" or not is more subjective but I found it fine.

[collapse]

Second Point... Gary Stu MC (Overpowered) :

Spoiler

Yep...? He is actually constantly reminded that he is VERY weak in the grand scheme of the world thanks to his connection to all locations given by the System, it's this and those feelings of weakness in his own world that end up driving him to be stronger still constantly. But... when against those on his own level or ONE (specific) above he is definitely a Gary Stu... but he isn't trying to fight on the same level. And, simply being "overpowered" isn't really enough to call it bad.

[collapse]

Third Point.... mu*der hobo MC:

Spoiler

eh... not really. There are definitely occasions where the MC did go mu*der hobo and definitely shouldn't of killed someone. But in a vast majority of cases the MC doesn't actually kill without reason. This was actually something I really liked of this novel. It didn't force a "no killing" or "ALL THE KILLING" stance. The MC has a pretty clear stance and holds to it pretty well (EXTREMELY well by Chinese novel standards).

MC kills on these occasions:

Someone attempts to kill him (Which I hope makes sense...)
They are in a locations/situation where mercy is lost (If you are in a place where mu*der is expected... expect it, this is usually in trial locations or in duels, a point could be made in some duels that death was 100% expected and even if on purpose wasn't done candidly, whilst the MC is completely willing to own up to the fact it was on purpose...I just don't really see that as bad though given the world he lives in)
They are of a certain force. (So... non-tamed beasts and I cannot think of a human/god etc group right now)
To protect someone he knows/is a friend with.
but yeah... actually pretty principled given the world the MC is placed in

[collapse]

Fourth...0 IQ MC:

Spoiler

MC is definitely dumb at occasions (would actually be a problem if he wasn't though)... slight spoiler but when he goes to other cultivation sites he is sometimes (isn't confirmed if it is always) not in the same time period that the site is currently in (Both confirmed cases as of c1098 have been to the past). I am genuinely baffled how he doesn't f*cking figure that out, it makes sense that the characters in the sites that do end up knowing keep it a secret from him but it isn't that f*cking hard to figure out himself.

The review that said this was going on about how supreme beings weren't using soul/mind magic on the MC to deal with him... firstly... they at least using soul magic to kill him off, pretty sure that is how he finds out the even destroying his soul doesn't work against the System revival. Mind magic in itself isn't used, but Mind pressure abilities are used abundantly and is actually REALLY important, since this is the basis of the Mc's heavily increased willpower. This point is just wrong. (Also in most cases the MC just gets killed in other ways and revives far away so there wouldn't be a chance, totally reasonable that a supreme being wouldn't immediately jump to destroying a soul to deal with the human equivalent of less than an ant)

[collapse]

Fifth..0 IQ other characters:

Spoiler

Yep. Some of the characters are f*cking s*upid. A point I can agree with. Will say this novel is better in this regards compared to other Chinese novels. But the flaw is there and I cannot say it isn't a bad point.

[collapse]

Sixth... Repetitive plot:

Spoiler

Also yes. A flaw picked up from the cultivation genre... there is definitely a case of "problem" "agrwy" "kill" "resolve" "repeat". Will say that it isn't inherently a flaw and whether you will enjoy it or find it horribly annoying will be your opinion. As with most the other points... this novel does pretty well avoiding or making it at least somewhat unique even if some of the minor characters / plot lines are just.. boringly samey.

[collapse]

7th... Filler

See above. and point about plot.

Most other points made by people don't really feel like they should need to be addressed... <<less

1st time posting a review in this website. All I can say is whoever saw this novel you must read it, if you like this kind of genre. This overall ave rate is not true. This novel deserve more than that. This novel should be more than 3.5 I can't believe people being so mean rating it this low. Compared to other novel with same taste this could be ranked within top 3.

Uh. MC doesn’t seem like he cares about anyone, but he actually does? But then again, staying with someone for so long, anyone could develop feelings. MC is kinda naive, but not really. He’s s*upid is what I’m saying. You go around offending people in the business you’re about to get into and you expect everything to go as smoothly as a flat screen TV? Kinda s*upid of him to think that way, especially when he’s older on the inside. Pet store business is questionable. He cultivates slowly but is... more>> super op, but what else to expect from a cultivation novel? Tons of face-slapping and arrogance. Some things are rather drawn out, but it’s all fine for me, as long as I’m not left on a cliffhanger. If I really can’t take it I just go to mtl. I’ll probably keep reading for entertainment purposes, and not for whatever plot (that doesn’t exist) is going on. <<less

If you're looking for a cool story about raising pets ? This is not it
If you're looking for a cool story about having a store and a system ? This is not it either

Frankly, this is the worst part of this book, it completely ditches its own premises, all of them.
The pets stop being relevant in battle about 1/3 of the way through, the entire things turning into yet another bog standard cultivation story at that point. The pets merely get used as a cheap source of drama when they get endangered or die.
The store ? Anything actually related to running a store was gone 1/10 of the way through, from then on the store is just there as an invincible fortress and a way for the hero to get access to a glorified hyperbolic time chamber.

On top of that it suffer from all the same issue xianxia stories have, characters get introduced and discarded constantly, without any sort of development. The MC get new techniques that he barely uses once or twice and then ignore, all the fancy abilities that come with each level up end up sounding way more interesting while the hero doesn't have access to them, because as soon as he does they boil down to "punch harder".

I've seen people say the MC shows character growth, but it's not true, character growth comes from the MC reflecting on myself, or being changed by events. This is just straight up inconsistent characterization.
Well, no I guess the character just magically knows who will be an antagonist and from second one decide to just mu*der and act like a complete as*hole to them because they were arrogant, while other people, who act just as arrogant as the antagonist but aren't meant to be antagonist he'll just ignore.

Honestly, this story as just one redeeming quality, the translation is decent compared to the utter tr*sh fire MTL you generally run into. It's not perfect though, there are terms that change for no reasons, pronouns and possessive that don't fit, negation is a complete crapshoot. You know, all things that a competent editor would catch effortlessly.

The MC gets stronger by getting angrier, not by utilizing his advantages smartly.

he has a store that could kill even the creators of the universe if he is inside it, what does he do? Fight battles outside of it ofcourse! Very sMART! Now he is crying about getting his pets killed. I don’t feel for the MC at all no sympathy.

i’d cry for an MC who did everything he could and still failed but not for someone who threw everything to chances and thought he is invincible just because a... more>> system. He has points of invincibility but never seems to use it. He can get resources from all over the universe but somehow he only gathers it from earth, a primitive universe instead of scavenging in a world he has infinite revives in nor getting resources in a top world where he can command the literal owner of that world in.

Basically a system where MC never utilizes his advantages and cries about it later. Cry more bit*h boy I've had enough of you and your 200 chapter tournaments <<less

It has been a months since

I have read a web novel to completion.

    • The world-building is quite poor. Rarely is anything described that will give you enough to fuel your imagination. The technology, people, races, places, etc are so lacking in description that I'm surprised I actually finished it.
    • Most characters are 2D and are often abandoned easily. For example,
      Spoiler

The MC chooses a student after obtaining his master pet trainer badge but never teaches his student anything. So, he asks another master to train his disciple for him and warns him to protect said disciple or else... This student was never heard of again.

      [collapse]
    • The author is very fond of foreshadows that doesn't come to fruition. Instead, they're forgotten and a new plot device is created on the fly. However, there are exceptions but are very few; this shows a lack of planning on the author's part.
    • There's too much filler content. The fillers aren't your usual I'm just-gonna-relax-and-go-on-a-vacation kind of stuff. For example:
      Spoiler

A huge clan invites him to be their guest or something and he promises to help them out in times of need, he requests resources from anyone and he promises help in return, he promises to marry someone in exchange for resources, etc

      [collapse]
, nothing else significant happens afterward where his help is ever needed. I finished reading 1581 chapters in 5 days. If you remove all the "fluff", it doesn't take long to read it all.
    • The power system is all over the place. Sure, the earlier power levels are structured well; but later on, the titles/states come in and it becomes a hodgepodge.
    • The only redeeming quality about this novel is that... I finished reading it. That's something, alright. I think it's because I stopped reading cultivation novels for almost a year or so.
Overall, decent junk food but is it filling? No. Even the ending is mid at best.

Refer to @DaoOfFairness review, as I agree with almost everything he says.

Most of these reviews are purely braindead hypocritical virtue signalling.

People don't like mu*derhobos/people who just kill and yet they say some insanely hypocritical things. Like goddamn, when I read these reviews where people say they don't like psychopaths/killers, I feel like an MC from a xianxia or wuxia who goes to some righteous/Buddhist sect and then sees they're the same if not worse than the evil sects or whatever.

I don't understand these people who say you shouldn't kill people... more>> if they try to kill you/someone you know. Like, what do you want the MC to do? Burn their soul for eternity or something? <<less

How does this one have low rating? This story is nice, no it is perfect. It takes a genre seen time and time again, more often than not butchered on repeat, and does it correctly. It is not new, it does not innovate any new design you have not seen before, but it is done well. No annoying romance harem seeking MC who is "Forced" to kill or cripple all love competitor's. The women do not suddenly become damsels in distress rather they stay worthy allies. MC has goals that... more>> are defined, he does not just forget family and friends to go off and never return. Wasting hundreds of chapters of character development. They may be shelved but the characters for the most part are present. The story is face value what you see is what you get. Though the author proved in a prior work Dark King they are very talented in dark scheme genre, this story does not require that but is good all the same. The MC is growing in strength though he will exceed alot of competitors he is not the strongest he will likely never be overwhelmingly the strongest of all but he is strong don't expect him to be on some Thanos with the gloves snap a finger power dude it's not happening. The people calling it a demerit for him earning money, he literally needs the money for the system. Which actually is wonderful! It is tiresome to have these MC's who don't know anything. Walk outside fall in a pot of gold, then be chased by others because they saw it "first" or will kill him to take it. Here the MC is running a business to make the money to get stronger. Which should be the basis of all fantasy because no matter what wealth=strength the fantasy has screwed that too much this sets it right. <<less

i dont understand why a lot of people are leaving bad reviews about this novel.

the story is great although the MC is has a great narcism and arogance he made the story alive. The system is not like any other system who only give their MC some tasks to reach the top. The system has its own iq, it only show to add the comedy or in neceasary scene. The pet store is shabby at the start but it started to grow after gaining this energy points by training countless... more>> pets. The pet doesnt get op suddenly they died a countless time in those cultivation site to attain their skill and strengths did you all skip this ? Also dont forget the time difference between the real world and the other worlds this matter most.

*sigh* all in all I hope you really read this story. I am at Chapter 926 and the battle scene here is exciting you will see a lot of people like the MC, who is only at a certain level but can still defeat someone who are three or more levels than him. <<less

I just have one complain lol...

Why doe's he still always seeks death in real life when he can literally get everything on his store?

Like seriously, it frustates me so.

Is the author trying for the MC to not be over reliant to the store? Too late for that. Might as well just continue with it.

Him seeking death is just like the young masters looking for MC fighting on who can courth death better.

Overall I like everything. Maybe because it's new.
I just hate his courting death personality.

So I am at the latest chapter of the story and I can say that this one is good. Don't bother those people who rate this novel low as they didn't finish the story before making a review. You can see how the MC learn how to care for the blue planet's citizen through out his journey. Atleast he's learning, right? Oh, and people says that he kills those people who brings trouble with him? For me, it is better than letting those trouble makers to continue living and then... more>> pester the MC again and again as if they are some brainless thugs. Lastly, there's no harem here. No virg*n h*rny boy who wants to get laid by every girl he meet. That's all. Try to read this one and make sure that you reach the part where the monsters starts to invade the human territory. <<less

It's okay so far, for me the story is so-so. People have different tastes so its better to read a few chapters first before you judge whether its great or not.

It's only 2 stars for me because sometimes MC has contradictory words and actions that it leaves me frustrated. So far, its the plot that drives me going.

I enjoyed it for the first 300 or so chapters as it was a decent combination of business and cultivation. The world itself and pet premise was also interesting. However, the MC then kept going on killing sprees and "face-slapping" chapter after chapter. Even the author had to write paragraphs afterwards explaining why MC did that because it seemed so sudden/inconsistent. New arcs that had potential just ended with massacre and/or showing off the MC's power - which he still hasn't upgraded but are able to use higher realm skills.... more>> Even the one family that were "intelligent" to not incur his wrath before and seemed to be an ally were still killed - so literally he has no allies except people that are scared of him, but guess he doesn't need them because he's so powerful and he can just order/threaten them when he needs something. <<less

Soooo never thought my first review is about Pokemon meets Martial God Asura. To get things out of the way, if you are someone like me that enjoys novels with focus on the MC in a different world that fights stronger and stonger enemys as the novel goes on and explains the techniques that are used in combat then you are at the right address. The novel is basically what would happen when Ash Ketchum could learn how to fight like a Pokemon and actually starts to fight with them... more>> with Martial Arts and Elemental abilities.

The MC itself is a silly dude that transmigrates into a different world with a system, he loves his family and is a fairly good person in a dog eats dog world, but he has a rather low EQ when it comes to dealing with people in his environment, so do not expect the best kind of decisions. What is fun about the novel is that you are Practically in a situation of constant growth while training your Pets in deadly environments on other planets, the catch here is that he and his pets can not die in the training environments, what leads to a rather straightforwards course of walking from one danger into another to improve his abilities followed by an exhibition of those on his home planet where he can actually die. The System itself is based on becoming the strongest Pet Shop, but it's not getting enough emphasis, its more kind of story device that keeps the plot anchored in a familiar environment. We will still see different environments, but the main focus is the store and what happens around it.

For me it's a 5 Star for now because I love the concept, fighting with your pets and still being a bad ass while learning new and interesting techniques is nice, I am only missing the better dialogues and more world building but for now for me its enough to have fun reading it. <<less

Decent to kill time

The story is written nicely but it focuses on the store aspect quit a lot. The OP MC that the story hints too is not there.

This a story with great potential but failed to make it.

... more>> Unique cultivation standard and very focused on the new Webnovel fab of have summoned beast has companions to fight.

If this story was not so Business focused and more a typical action novel which I like to read I would rate this story five stars.

The story is simple to understand and the author does not drivel about information we are gona forget in ten minutes. The con of this story is that the plot is very predictable. <<less

Another good novel. It's a story of our MC "Su Ping" who gets reincarnated into a scifi Cultivation World but luckily receives an OP System. While it might not be a literary masterpiece or a must-read but it's definitely unique and fun novel.

Worldbuilding,
A very expansive world. The scale of the world is massive. Also MC keeps traveling to many different worlds, so you will keep seeing new places all the time.

MC and Side Characters,
Amazingly done. MC is a joy to read, he is outspoken and very justice oriented which is the main reason he gets into a lot of fights. Other then MC, we have his friends / pets, each of which have a story of their own which are amazingly done. Even the ordinary side characters have a story of their own. Although many of these side character eventually get forgotten later, but during the time they were shown almost each of them gets some time to shine.

Cultivation,
A unique Cultivation system which focuses on Pets at the early level. The later level are all Dao related but I believe this novel has one of the best understanding of how Dao Cultivation will look like from Cultivation perspective. Even the "Star Lord" level cultivators, which is at the middle of the whole Cultivation tree are basically Omnipotent, they can do anything Create life, travel in space, even time, reverse death, create matter, anything. The higher level are somehow even more Omnipotent.

About the Plot,
The plot can be divided into two parts. The first half focuses on MC's growth in Cultivation and as a person, and it's where the story shines the most. The character development of MC is engaging, even if he occasionally behaves like a Young Master but he still is a very charming character. The second half delves into the mystery of the System, the truth of the world, and the final big bad enemy.

Ending,
Very weird ending. It was definitely rushed but it was also wierd that everyone in the last fight suddenly turned into a philosopher. Rather then ending with a fight, almost all the people in the ending few chapters are basically having a debate about of life and death. Although there is still a fight going on but it's not the main focus. I didn't dislike it but this was definitely the first time I am seeing something like this in a webnovel, this is more of an anime thing.

Cons,
As the story progresses, the author seems to become forgetful of what he has written previously, which results in inconsistency in his writing, lots of ordinary character being forgotten and lots of plot threads which never being fully resolved.

In summary,
Good novel. Sometimes it even made me feel very warm and fuzzy. Give it a try, especially if you like pet novels.

This novel is so disappointing. As often in chinese webnovels, the first part, when he is in his first planet, was really good but then, it quickly went downhill. The author seems to often forget what he wrote previously. The more you advance in the novel, the more flaws you find, which make it an unpleasant experience. The protagonist acts like a moron, but it is understandable as the author gave him such a cheat help that only by being an idiot can he be in any danger and therefore... more>> can there be any suspense in the story.

One of the positive point is that, when the MC is in a situation where he has to beat up weaklings, the author make it quick, there is not an excruating amount of face slapping as it can have in other Xuanhuan.

Another thing that troubles me is that the characters don't consider that what they are doing to their pet is ens*avement, even though they are called "pet", the animals don't have freedom and their mind are altered so that they feel close to their masters. The logic behind the fact that they are not s*aves is that they can "disobey there masters orders" but they will suffer for that. More than one time, masters demanded their pets to kill thelmseves for them but the author seems to forget about that too in the end. Near the end, the characters call their pets "partners" but in fact, it depends of the master. Some consider their pets as tools and others considers them as partners even though their relashionships is based on a lie. <<less

Start off promising and fun with pet, store and sytem, then it goes downhill.

My biggest gripe with this novel is that, MC have store that have portal going anyplace he want and at various time point, but he choose to throw all that away and strolls outside his store, putting himself and his pet in danger, like wtf?
