Zhang Siyi manages to dodge the coffee, but unfortunately, it hits the guy behind him instead. Just when he is about to do something about it, the guy dismisses him and leaves.

Zhang Siyi thought that would be the end of it, but who would’ve thought that the very next day, he will meet the man again… in a job interview. And being hired by him will be just the beginning.

When you started reading this book, maybe you'll get a little bit confused about the numbering and measuring especially if you didn't come from design background. But trust me, it'll also broadening your knowledge. Not only being able to eat the sweet they gave, but you'll also gain some lesson about designing and stuff.

It has slow burn plot but each chapter has its character development that will fill your heart with satisfaction. There're thousand of quotes and life lesson you could pick up from this book. Such as, how to... more>> cope your unstable emotion at work, how to love someone, how to cherish something you like, how to love something, how to never give up on what path you choose, how to start again after failure, etc.

So I really recommend this book.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate this book 12.
Because this book is just too remarkable.
Once you read it, it'll left you with a big impression. <<less

OMG! This one is like a breath of fresh air from those other novels I read! I was glad I found it!

The story for me is superb... it was sooo long that the story line and characters were developed properly. It also has that realistic vibes for love and career for working adults.

It made me teary reading those last chapters because I don't want it to end...

One of the best most supportive relationships I've ever read. This is a mentor-mentee relationship turned romantic relationship done right. At no point did I feel like the older more successful man was using his power or authority to control or assert dominance over the younger one. He genuinely wanted him to learn and was supporting him to become his equal in the field.

The thing that constantly brings me back to the story isn't their relationship, however. It's the main character's inspiring growth. He's at the stage of life I'm... more>> currently in, and the themes of self doubt, fear of failure, and coming to terms with not having the ability or the work ethic to meet your goals, hits home on another level. What do I want to be 5 years from now? 10 years from now? Am I wasting my time? What can I do now to change? This story is so real that I think it can move anyone. <<less

YES, it's OFFICE ROMANCE but make it ARCHITECTURE! Alternatively, BL BUT MAKE IT MILLENIAL ENNUI and I think that's way more accurate.

I do enjoy the romance, and I think the very slow burn, very long build up to their eventual confession (they don't kiss for over 100 chapters!) is *chefs kiss* fantastic, and there is an absolutely ridiculous THERE WAS ONLY ONE BED scene which made me sob "they're so s*upid, I love them".

But what kept me eagerly reading this book was Zhang Siyi's experiences as a job seeker, as... more>> someone trying to be financially independent and do all those 'adulting' things, someone trying to keep up with friends who themselves are struggling to balance work and life, constantly comparing himself to his peers and colleagues and wondering if he's lacking.

Since he started working, he didn’t have much time to take care of his private life. In his room is a single sofa he bought from IKEA. Initially, he thought that he would have a place to sit and read and think about life, but the results in less than two weeks, is not what he thought. The sofa has become the place where he piles his clothes. It has never reflected its value as a “seat.”

Like, could you be more relatable??? I found all of those parts of the story really touching and really real. Zhang Siyi's search for a job that fulfills more than just the need to earn money is an idealistic arc, but it is enjoyable! Even if I personally don't think it is necessary to find vocational meaning in your job, it is beautiful that he does!

I don't know how much the author knows about architecture and urban planning, and I personally know very little, but if it's nonsense then it is enjoyable nonsense. More pertinently, I found it very convincing as an office drama - the frustration of working on group projects and bidding for a tender and all those little nuances of interpersonal relationships that can so help or hinder working with colleagues. Super on point in that respect!

My main disappointment would be that after they get together, the s*xual dynamic was just pretty cliche forceful top/submissive bottom, and that annoyed me. But not enough to not rec this story.

A couple more quotes:

Zhang Siyi thought about Borderless in a new light then thought about Gu Yu’s simple, but exquisite day. Gu Yu not only pursues his work, but he obviously pursues his life. In comparison, every day after work, in addition to chatting with Fu Xinhui, Zhang Siyi spends a few hours on the internet watching social media. With some introspection, he felt confused.

I feel called out.

It turns out that loving a person is unstoppable like the limitless graph of a positive quadratic function.

A BEAUTIFUL METAPHOR!!!!!!!!!!!! <<less

I wish I can give 10 stars. This is definitely one of my top 10 favourite novels. I'm not good with words so I can't give proper reviews but for those who hesitate to read this novel please give it a try. You won't regret it. I promise.

This novel is full of great wisdoms and knowledge that can be applied in our life. For those feeling down about their studies or career this book helps to give you a new perspective in life. The advises given by the characters in... more>> this novels truly resonate with me.

And plus, it so so so entertaining. It's a great fun to read. It has great character development and solid plots. I didn't even feel the hours gone by as I marathon this novel. I even sneakily read it during office hours. ^°^" It's a sweet coming of age story with an overdose of dog blood scenes that make you wish you have someone in your life that treat you the same way.

For those who are upset about the way ML tease / bully the MC, I feel it was normal. My parents relationship are like that. They tease / bully each other and still act sweet even after more than 3 decades together. It's healthy as long as both parties respect each other and don't take it too far. This was the only Chinese BL novels that I bookmarked to my browser. Despite reading more than hundreds of Chinese BL novels. That's tell you something. Other than this there was this one western BL novels that I bookmarked. So it's very rare for me to bookmarked story to my browser. <<less

5 stars!

I must admit I hesitated many times before starting this story because I thought to myself "do I want to start an over 200 chapters story on architecture" of all things? But this one really caught me by surprise. It wasn't boring, the pace wasn't slow. It fact I was fascinated by the world of architecture and the progress of MC. I was originally looking for romance and the book didn't disappoint in that regard as well. The romance was slow burn but the rewards was really good. The... more>> book doesn't get boring at all!

MC can be really immature but I think it was realistic. He's young and it shows. But he learns and there's character growth and sometimes, he can be cute too. The immaturity can be a bit irritating at times especially when it leads to arguments with ML but there's always good communication afterwards and no drawn out misunderstandings and that's what makes a good relationship.

Unfortunately no second BL CP though there's other MF CP.

I also like the gradual acceptance of their families. And that ending is just one of the most satisfying ones I've read. It shows how far MC have come and I think I got goosebumps from that.

Much recommended! <<less

Wow I'm actually feeling sad that the novel has finished.

But aside from that I really appreciate the translater. It's apparent how they fot better and better while translating.

And about the novel, it's actually fulfilling. It's like I witnessed a life journey of the couple. What I like most is their mutual understanding & no unnecessary drama. Everything that happened had happened for some reason. And the amazing thing was ZSY never doubted his decision as in many novel I've read before how the MC waver over their decision. Their first... more>> impression to liking each other to realizing their love to accept the fact that ZSY is gay to living together and everything was just perfect. Nothing exaggerated.

What I miss is the author didn't describe in which point GY realized his feelings? If this part was included I think the story would be more fulfilling as I really want to know. But it's worth reading. Love <<less

From ratings you’ve probably seen that is highly rated and highly recommended because it is a nice story, slow pace like everyone says and nice romance.

However I feel that it’s a bit overhyped, it really isn’t realistic and most BL’s aren’t but most of the reviews were saying that it was “realistic and relatable”, I just think the author made it that way so that they could define the characters personalities if anything.

The main characters be more likeable later on, but it is all about patience of.

But I can just... more>> tell you now it does have a happy ending you’re not going to find heavy drama in this one so yeah. <<less

I really enjoyed the romantic build-up; nicely executed. If you enjoy slow-burn, this is one of the best. I know nothing about architecture, so I'm going to assume the author knows what they're talking about- that aspect was fascinating to read about.

I'm pretty liberal about giving it 5 stars because of the above-mentioned, but there was one aspect that I didn't care for. In that sense, some of the book is 5 stars, some is not.

The tag black belly is very accurate. Made it difficult to fully enjoy the novel. There's nothing outrageous, so I don't mean to scare you off. But for one of the characters it's like there's a shift in personality half-way- and the black bellied nature is revealed, which greatly disappointed me. Argh, it was perfect up till then!

This has been one of the more down-to-earth realistic danmei I've read. Goes in my list of books that I will re-read many times. It's not just a story of romance and love, but also of youth, growing up, philosophy, success and meaning of life. I loved reading ZSY's journey from a naïve, impulsive and confused 23 year old to the grounded and mature young man that he became over the course of the novel. His character development was the greatest. I would have loved the book even more... more>> if GY's trajectory and character development was also shown, along with ZYS's journey. GY is almost perfect from the very beginning, with an already incredible outlook and philosophy in life, which to me was the unrealistic part of this story.

The supporting characters were very well thought out. What I liked was how even the "bad" characters weren't one dimensional. All the characters were complex and had some kind of growth and insight during the course of the story.
Spoiler

One of the reasons I didn't give it 5 stars is because of how GY sometimes made use of the power difference between him and ZSY to propel their relationship in the direction GY wanted. However, GY didn't coerce ZSY into a relationship with him, or force him to have romantic feelings. ZSY was starting to have different feelings for GY than pure admiration for a mentor. I felt that GY did use his power over ZSY to speed the relationship along, and to establish a similar power dynamic in their personal life. But, It sooooo much more bearable and realistic than many pairings and relationships in danmei.

[collapse]

The romance was described very beautifully. I sort of related to their feelings and started remembering my own emotional rollercoaster during those precious first months of falling in love. Would have liked to see a bit more about how their relationship developed. They are a very harmonious couple, with very little disagreements. It was a bit idealistic. Didn't really describe the discomforts and adjustments that are inevitable when two people live so intimately. While the book describes the life of an architect quite a bit of detail, I enjoyed reading every minute of it. It was very informative and I actually learned about architecture and the current (maybe 5 years back) market in China. I didn't feel like it was too dry or too much information while reading it. The steady and thoughtful pacing, the development of the characters, the deep feelings and intense passion the protagonists had for each other, and the mature ideas and philosophy discussed in the book, were all in line with my own tastes. I usually don't look for inspiration from danmei, but this book has inspired me to look at my own life and values. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I'm definitely coming back several times. I don't know why this book is rated below 4.5 stars. Give it a try, don't let the descriptions of architecture scare you away from reading this lovely, heartwarming story. <<less

This is by far my favorite modern day novel. I enjoyed the whole journey of this slice of life story and I love our MC and ML along with many other side characters. The characters’ development, the pacing of the story, the struggles and fluff were all just incredibly well written. It’s definitely a book that I will be rereading over and over throughout the years.
