They’re treated like heroes and tasked with the duty of saving the human race from utter extinction.

But what should have been any otaku’s wet dream quickly turns into Hajime’s nightmare? While the rest of his class are blessed with godlike powers, Hajime’s job, Synergist, only has a single transmutation skill. This had A LOT of potential... but then it got reaaally stretched... and lessay after a certain while... the characters stop having any real growth or maturing... and it just got more annoying and annoying especially with MC + harem.... I lost sympathy with him... and just want to punch him cuz hes such a f*ckin a**hole

Let me clarify somethings. This novel actually has pretty decent world building and combat. But thats it. It becomes extremely bad in the Character, Plot, and Overall Story department after like the initial arc... more>> and a half. You need to turn off your brain to even enjoy it. The mechanics and fiction component workflows used later on are extremely haphazard, thankfully the initial elements, the world building and combat design kept things from falling apart.

I did not finish all the side stories, so I cant comment too much on them, but from the ones I did, they didnt really help. Its one of the series I finished for finishing sake, I regret it very much, because I kept my hopes up till the very end of the main story. I was a fool. <<less

Excellent character development and very interesting plot. But in later chapters, the story gets drawn out, so the pace is a bit helter skelter at some points.

Arifureta can be said as a typical case of Japanese webnovel with good materials and great start but weaker plot in later chapters. At first, the main theme is revenge, and it will be great if the writer sticks with it; but he didn't and instead switch to harem. A waste of good material, but may preferable if you like harem cliches.

All the reviews that are negative are weird I mean it starts off dark after the betrayal and gets brighter as it goes on. Why? All the main heroines want him to be happy rekindle his humanity so he at least won’t have nothing after his revenge is done, is that so hard to understand?

Too many Tropes and reference and not enough edgy MC... bruh are you f**king kidding me go back to your one dementional writing plot you love so much then it’s litterally everywhere! Ahem also tropes and... more>> references were popular to use back when it came out.

PROS:

  • The fighting scenes are nicely fleshed out though out the novel.
  • ML regrows as a person from the edgy EDGELORD those one dimention readers love back into his old kind self somewhat.
  • The man who sticks with his plan kills all enemies and go home (constant goal)
  • Fun interactions with characters
CONS:

  • A lot of tropes
  • The hero class lv cringe when he gets face time
  • Semi-obvious plots when you read enough fantasy stories but not bad as a starter novel

Comedy, arrogant op MC, undeserved harem, I love it

Loved the anime too

Although the MC becomes op by eating monsters, it was because he got pushed into the labyrinth by his classmate (got betrayed), besides it says in the title"from commonplace to worlds strongest", besides in the final arc he actually had to work hard to get yue back, he was severely injured too, one of my favs, recommend reading it

well rejoice I came here just to evaluate this work here in the gringa well it is incredibly good, I started reading after he saves the people from the dungeon onwards and I finished the work is good I didnt think it was even better, the prota n kills all unnecessarily only those who get in the way, everything in the story has been explained so well and it also helps you to know what a sense of justice is and all this because now after reading, even after 4... more>> months I think nothing is wrong or good and yes it all depends on point of view <<less

I remember back then this was one of the first books I read back then on this site. The rating was a lot higher then and I was so addicted making me read a couple hundred (s?) of chapters into it. The novel had a great start and was very addicting for someone who was into harem novels at the time cause of hormones (lol). However, the novel stadted to quickly devolve once they got outside the first dungeon, and started to go to sht once the bunny (I think)... more>> and the desert part of the book started. That was when I decided to pause this novel but when I came back I disxovered all chaps were removed because an official translated version appeared making these sites need to remove the chapters, but now they are back, maybe due to illegalness or perhaps author decided to let it be or perhaps as promotion. Anyways I only suggest reading it if you havent read much and are into harem novels else itll just be a waste of time. <<less

Depending on the part of the story, my personal rating has fluctuated anywhere from 1-4 stars. I can say without a single doubt in my mind that this story does not deserve a 5 star rating. However, it is at least better than the horendous anime.

There are a lot, and I mean A LOT of problems I have with this novel. I was genuinely interested in the story at several parts, both during the main plot and the after story. While almost every character and every situation reek with cringe,... more>> it is mostly to the point of mildly amusing. However, some characters are completely unbearable and 100% unlikable. The saddest part of this is that the author, especially of late, decided to spend several character arcs with only them and none of the more likable characters. To put it vaguely as to not spoil anything, I especially don't like the MC's rival, or his right-hand-man. They are both terribly written characters that aren't interesting, and detract negatively from the story. I think that the best part of the story was the very beginning, and slowly got worse. It peaked from time to time, and some of the arcs after the BBG's demise ranged from interesting to lightly humorous. However, the last 3-4ish major arcs have all been utter garbage, literally 1 star seems like too high a rating.

I know that I should just drop this novel, but I'm still stuck in the sunk cost fallacy. I think 3 stars might be too many, and I feel like I generally give stories the benefit of the doubt. I didn't go into the details about how the MC is a Mary Sue, how 2D most of the characters were, how tropey the story is, or how many Deus Ex machina are in the story, because that isn't my main concern. I can enjoy a story that has any or all of these characteristics. I cannot ignore, however, is how bad this story has gotten. I feel like the author has run out of ideas, but is just trying to either milk the fanbase or not let them down by ending the series (I don't know anything about the author and won't put words into their mouth). I'll probably continue reading this continually declining story, but I don't recommend anyone else to do the same. If you've made it this far through my rant, I say give it a try only if you have nothing else to do. While the anime was putrid, it wasn't that surprising, as almost every light/web novel adaptation is terrible. I don't think it's worth your time to read the entire story, but everyone has their own tastes. <<less

well for me, I always love romcom, magic and swords, action type novels so this is great for me, actually I already reread this starting from the beginning, I love where there is rivalry in love or in action to spice things up, and its getting more interesting in the after stories because of there everyday lives, they go to more adventures where they were spirited away, where they were already summoned to that world but that idiot hero got summoned again to a different world, etc. And the author... more>> is writing more fun stories by asking suggestions from the readers that I found it amusing.

well this is a personal opinion but for me novel is a entertainment to entertain readers so I preferred comedy, Mystery, Action novels, I hate very dark novels. If you are not entertained by Arifureta that is your opnion and you are free to share it so I can't deny it but Readers have different taste, maybe some has weird taste so I can't say I recommend this to them but if there is some reader who has a same taste as mine, I recommend this, surely the main story is full of action and betrayals, but the after stories are the best??? <<less

This here was one of if not the first isekia I ever read back in the japtem days, at that time I was a loser still in highschool in dire need of an escape, my home life wasn't great and it was a great outlet to use as wish fulfilment and gratification, but that was many years ago I've had time to grow and absorb many more novels since then and this one just doesn't hold up too well.

my first gripe would be the characters, especially the women I get... more>> that it's every guy's fantasy to have a harem but this guy's only redeemable feature is his strength, in real life douches may get girls but they at least pretend to be nice a bit. The only person he shows any affection for is the vampire loli, which if this was written taking into account how normal people would react would not go down well. Speaking of normal reactions everyone except the teacher has no regard for life, no struggle or hesitation on taking life.

Think about this in the entire capital of the human territory everybody thinks his class is tr*sh, surley of all the mages, nobles, soldiers ect nobody found a proper use for him but no they send this none combat class out to die in a random a** dungeon. It's not well thought out.

another problem for me is the complete lack of ability in these summoned heroes, even the combat classes as a whole probably wouldn't be able to defeat our self serving MC who probably just plays up the dark and painful past to look cool and mysterious, its been a long time since I read it but I'm not sure he ever struggled after he escaped the dungeon the first time.

the mc's personality grates on me, the way he treats the poor bunny girl pisses me off, I've known a few sociopaths in my time and some of his behaviours are textbook sociopath, things like withholding affection, creating an effective hierarchy based on his attention, he doesn't actually love the people he has around he just associates her with freedom and hope.

overall this is a basic self-insertion on the authors part, it does all the classic op isekia things you get in 90% of the swill on here, I'm not saying this is the worst of it genre and if anything its a good beginner novel, but its low tire and there are plenty of better novels that do everything better, but if you are a young and brooding outcast you might like it. <<less

Like this series, but hate it neither

Character 0/0

Character ruined it all

I like when hajime getting colder when he survived from orcus labirynth

But he getting softer and naive again when he back to heiligh and fight god apostle

The scene I hate the most is when he bring kouki and others with him

Edginess is tier 1... until it wasn't.

I just don't like how the MC doesn't hold onto his vengeance against his classmates at all, or at least to his teacher. His whole struggle in the first arc was due to his rage and anger, yet later in the story, those emotions fizzle out (or get pushed to the back of his mind) in the face of "the greater good", which is bs. Good for him for taking the higher moral ground, but I expected him to be the ultimate edgelord.

I really enjoyed this story. The first volume was one of the best of the story, and I view it like the prologue to the series. After that the story changes tone a bit.
Spoiler

MC starts as innocent but determined guy. Then struck by tragedy he decides to be tough and strongly focus on his goal. After the first volume he maintains a BA personality, but he also has an almost true neutral personality (help those who helped him, hurt those that hurt him, everyone else is on their own unless they can benefit him somehow.)

[collapse]
The story becomes less about his progress and more about his adventures and who he meets. Yet progress is still made. New characters join his party, he acquires new magics from different dungeons, and it leads of to a climatic confrontation with the primary enemy.

Different girls are added, almost one a volume, but I like the way the author did it more than almost any other harem novel. The first girl he accepts is instantly his best girl, a true partner. The rest of the story involves a sprinkle of cute interactions between him and her showing affection and trust. The rest aren't just tacked on one by one, but fall in their own ways (however easily these books make girls fall) and then they have to appeal to him to slowly gain acceptance. Most will start shallow enough but allow for the shared experiences needed for MC to actually love each of them. I think its vital to note that though it starts with some traditional guy running away from girls sexing him up, he actually gets laid by the end of volume one and it breaks that (in my opinion) extremely annoying romantic block. That comedy can work if done right but no progress quickly frustrates me as a reader. I was really pleased with how this author handled both a central romance and harem elements, considering how a harsh critic will always find something wrong with harem elements. The author addresses each girl, instead of letting any fall into ambiguity. Every girl who shows true love to him got some dedication, which is something I read complains on in a lot of other novel reviews.

The end of the main climax leads builds to a good wrap up for the main story, but I think its important to mention how great I found the epilogue based side stories. Anything that the main story didn't give enough attention to, or maybe just an awesome extra story using a different character or MC. These side stories are not a chapter long extra, or not mostly.
Spoiler

Author world builds at least 2 new other worlds and worldwide issues that need to be solved, and even give a pretty good reason for him to care enough to solve them (one being as a favor for his wife, and another because he wanted to spend time with an often neglected wife and hey, might as well save a world with her, that would do it).

[collapse]

I loved this story and often think back on the awesome world the author wrote, and how well he filled in the characters. POV changes a bit but mostly for a just as exciting side story. I hope others will love it for what it is in its hot but poorly handled genre

Firstly, I like this novel

I understand the reasone some people low rate this novel, because miss leading. Let me give my opinion

1st, the genre is miss leading in part 'mature' and 'psychological'. As I know mature never stand same as shounen. And psychological only happen in beginning (as far as story goes, will more fantasy shounen like)

... more>> 2nd, too much tag and this isn't dark fantasy. So, tag such 'betray' 'bullying' 'depiction of cruelty' only happen in beginning. As story goes, more dark shounen rather dark itself.

Those people whos give this novel low rate, try reread this as shounen rather than dark.

Spoiler

This novel is a rare one, which got long after story and other chara get story + romcom too

Now, I already have read some of the comments, and for all of you who hate it after volume 1, really, really, you are reading a JAPANESE WEB NOVEL! It is a good story overall. It does have its weak points, some parts can be a bit boring, some of the running gags stumble over themselves in an effort to keep going, but it quickly gets back to being an enjoyable read. The people complaining about the MC getting over powered all of a sudden, did you not read the... more>> tags? Sudden Strength Gain is one of the secondary tags. People saying it is not psychological, it is! The protagonist goes from a good, kind kid, to someone who has a survive by any means mentality from both near death experiences and his body painfully being torn apart and repaired. The psychology after that is him going from being a borderline sociopath (not psychopath, there is a difference) to a normal, if a bit distant, person through the efforts of a few girls who genuinely love and care for him and don't want him to become an unfeeling monster. The After Story is even better. I give it a 3-3.5 for the Main Story (that is 6-7, or above average, but not great) and the After Story is a 4-4.5 (a 8-9, great but not perfect) as my verdict. <<less

I really like this novel. At first I hate the heroine yue because she is too b*tchy, keep doctrine the MC that he has to make her always number one. But after the main story complete, the development of this novel is really good. MC becaming doting parent for his daughter, Quarrel between wives, sometimes MC ignoring the main heroine and the story progressed epicly. You may be confused because the plot tell about the past and the future and there is no steady timeline, but I reccomend you start... more>> from epilogue if you want read this. I'm sure from reading it, you can move to anger, sad, happy, even laugh because of the comedy. Great job for the author. Compared to another isekai novel with dense idiot s*upid MC, this is the best. The story was neither good nor bad. Well, after the first volume I think it would became a little bit more interesting but noo~. It turned out to become an average story with an average OP MC.

Spoiler

If the MC followed the revenge obsessed route then it would have turned out better me thinks. Instead the MC becomes a prick who thinks he lives for himself. Seriously, if the author just stuck to that it would also have been good but how come by plot convenience he meets a legal loli vampire that he would come to treasure as a friend/lover. It was just too fast. Isn't the MC just a pu*sy who can't stick to his own ideals. He says he'd live for himself but suddenly he 'adjusts' to that too fast. It's f*cking disappointing.

[collapse]

If you're looking for a light read, I guess this would do. Just don't get too deep into the story, you'll just get disappointed. The story is not for some serious reading but something you can read if you are bored and got a bit of time. <<less

I will say that the first part of the story was really good. 5-4 stars and unfortunately it will gradually decline in quality.
Spoiler

Other world story ends at 179 by this time the story is a 4/5 for me.

If you want to come out of this novel feeling well and not exhausted from reading nothing but denatured/cliche harem series then I would suggest stop reading once Hajime and pals return to another world. Afterwards if you're still curious about what happened to Hajime and his gang and the troubles they might face read ch. 180-196 which ties up any loose ends and effectively is the last of the remaining chapters that are even remotely worth reading IMO.

After that drop the series, if not then go ahead and suffer, I wasted a lot of time trying to find interesting story points but really I found nothing.

[collapse]

I give Arifureta After a 2/5. Dropped due to staleness of plot.

I don't know if the author wants an Edgy OP MC or what. The story starts as a dark one and then revert to fluffy adventure one minus MC being b*tchy about killing the other guys. Revenge as plot didn't even happen, it just straight up got thrown away like nothing.

Okay, Im gonna make exactly the same review as everyone else, just incase u miss theirs. So first volume was pretty much consant fighting and the first couple chapters really pull you in as you feel him stuggling to survive in a dungeon he should have died in within seconds. The whole first volume was beautifully done in my oppinion. I mean I was fine with the loli vampire showing up, she brought back his humanity that was being chipped away throughout the earlier chapters. Then the dreaded second volume... more>> happened. They started out with a good plot point (destroy everything be OP), and I was genuinely excited to see where else this novel would take me, until we met the extremely busty rabbit girl with no shame to her name. Now I believed in this novel, I spent a week reading up till this point and I wasn't ever really bored (except some points). So I thought, alright it might be fine having another OP character in their group. Which was fine and dandy until the amount of OP females all drooling for his pants reached about 5. I was hanging on a thread at this point. I was praying for the novel gods to grant me with a better story line than everyone praising our all mighty MC. Until we met the dragon. I couldn't continue, I lost all hope. This dragon was of course a female who was so extremely M that no matter how MC treated her she still wanted his pants (just like everyone else). Meeting a new female might have made me continue this series but when he tried to defeat her in dragon form her weakness was her butt, which made her suddenly realise she loved bu*t stuff and MC was the only on to give it to her. So please if you read this novel don't make same mistake I did and just stop after the first volume. I promise you its not going to get any better.

Good luck and good reading. <<less
