Pros: If you just read for the romance it’s pretty ok, with a well matched pair of teasing lovers, but there are many more cons to this novel.

Cons: There’s too much going on in the world building that none of it is written deeply. Everything is very shallow. The palace drama is not well written/researched, which is especially obvious when compared to really well written palace drama novels, many of which are listed in the Recommendations section for this novel. The author obviously doesn’t have a good understanding of any... more>> of the settings they are using. The jianghu portion is sprinkled randomly, no actual details in skills or training, just exists for plot points. The epidemic happened and concluded in like a month, unrealistic, especially how fast the infected people recovered. So badly unrealistic.

Major cons: More bad parts of this novel is actually how ridiculously op the MC and ML are. They are both top martial arts masters, geniuses in scholarly arts & war strategies, while also the best looking everrrr. Oh MC is also genius medical doc and psychiatrist doing hypnotherapy in ancient times. Author has no real understanding of any of these topics. MC also supposed to be a salted fish. Did the author just mash every protagonist characteristic to create the ultimate Gary sue mc?

Major cons continued: I am so tired of the obsession with good looks being the greatest virtue in Chinese novels. Every chapter has to go into details about how beautiful MC is. Then how suuuuuper talented MC is. Genius iq + eq but he couldn’t even manipulate his adopted concubine mother and younger half brother to like him so he can have a sad backstory with no attachment to his birth kingdom. Convenient so MC has no inner turmoil about betraying his 1 dimensional bad bad extended royal family.

The longer I write this review the more shortcomings I’m finding in this novel. 2.5 rating. <<less

An interesting story. Healthy dynamic between the couple. A very cute, smart, respectful, sweet and romantic couple with good character development 🥰

The extras were interesting too.

I like their relationship so much.

Definitely, definitely an underrated gem and fantastic piece. This novel has just the right amount of romance, humor, adventure, and drama.

The main CP is so lovely and lively. MC is such a shameless little troublemaker, and it's infectious. Their bickering in the beginning is hilarious, although ML, the doting husband, tends to give way to him later on. Neither of them are weak, but they both understand that they are human and are imperfect.

ML is a "tyrant, " he does this only for the sake of unification and peace, so he is under a lot of pressure as he bears the burden alone. MC understands this, and assists him in his goals, but lets ML do most of the work because... well, he's lazy.

There was a good, clear resolution, and the extras are pretty funny and cute. I'm glad that they got their happy ever after.

There is some amazing self-sabotage as ML pitted alt!ML by tricking alt!MC into thinking he could give birth, while MC tricked alt!ML into thinking that he was the bottom, leading alt!MC and alt!ML to be confused on their wedding night because both people thought they were the bottom.

I would never have thought this would capture my interest to this extent. I mean, yeah I was interested in it that’s why I start reading it, but boi did I feel lucky to come across this new gem.

It’s such an undertone comedic lol. Even though it was supposed to be sad but our genius MC made things funny and tear-jerking at times. One thing I appreciate the most is our ML get the influence from MC hahahahaha.

I thought, oh this would have a cold ML base on description but there’s no tag mention this so I was gambling. As I read, I probably thought he’s a bit cold at first but ML isn’t a cold-blood one at all. There are people fear and loyal to him maybe more than we could thought of. But after he met MC he turned into a 3 year old and even act cute sometime even though it wasn’t deliberate lol I laugh so hard at their interaction many times. They’re a cute couple.

At first MC gave me the impression that, he’s so arrogant. Even though he said many time that he has the strength to kill ML but I doubt that. Not because he doesn’t have the strength but that he’s such a soft person from body to mind lol but when he did kill and talked about how he revenged, oh boi, did I feel cold-sweat haha and cried many times during those moments. I just love these two so much. They are a match made in heaven.

This is a love story and I like it. 💖 I would actually consider this as nearly a slice of life genre with palace setting. It is the author's intention to write a love story with soul. The focus here is on the MC and ML's relationship; from their meeting to their falling in love with each other. This isn't a plot-heavy story filled with many political dramas as you would've expected from a historical genre danmei. It's about their journey together; resolving heart knots, supporting each other, being good emperors,... more>> loving each other. It's a soothing read. Not as slow as farming novels but slightly slower when compared to its contemporaries. Anyway, it's a well-written story. 👍 <<less

ok first things first. The author has a horrible habit of overexplaining things. She especially loves to rehash the same sob story when it pertains to to MC and ml's tragic past. Got on my nerves quite a few times I had to skip whole paragraphs because of it.

as for the characters and story? Nothing too remarkable. MC and ML are sweet and romantic. Didnt have long stretches of denialism and surprise to say that they accepted their feelings pretty quick. Unfortunately that also meant the pining and courting was... more>> pretty short lived before they got to boning each other like rabbits.

theres a fair bit of face slapping when MC and ML flaunt their affections in front of everyone. Cheesy but not too greasy.

what I didnt like is how MC and ML are far to overpowered for their own good. Doesnt make sense how a ten year old MC managed to become a top martial artist and poison master AND healer given his childhood circumstances, or lack thereof. Same goes for ml. Every side character literally cannot compare and are simply there to show off how cool and powerful MC and ML are.

my biggest gripe is that the tl is unfortunately mtl, and has some pretty glaring spelling mistakes.

update: read up to chap 75 and had to drop it. The tler made too many changes halfway through the novel it was seriously putting me off. Changing emperor to king and zhongling palace to spiritual palace like why? Pick a term and stick with it.

honest review? The story is by no means a masterpiece. A generous 3/5 if youre into no brainer face slapping palace dramas. The tl quality is a solid 2/5 <<less

If you're having a second thought of reading this then I tell you. Give this one a chance! Specially if you're tired of those tyrant who would still do the shou even if they are in pain or such.

Our beloved ML is a tyrant and talented in battles just like the other but a TYRANT to people but not to his beloved partner which is our shou. He is so innocent in that kind of stuff T^T yes bed stuff he will BLUSH, walk out, out of embarrassment and HE is SOMEONE who will endure his desire because his beloved is in PAIN, he inquire HOW much PAIN his partner will suffer. HE will stop if their partner is inpain or tired. Srsly after doing the deed the care of the ML is just 😤👌

ML and MC have both past of suffering in the past. And I love how they found that happiness that have seemed gone for how many years came back after getting to know each other. I specially like the part where ML and MC played snow ball fight in the snow. How they spent the new year with each other. Learning the care that the others do for them.

ML TYRANT BUT ALSO CUTE, CARING AND LOVING.

MC IS BEAUTIFUL, SMART, AND TALENTED. His mouth is specially talented talking back to the emperor even if they haven't known each other for too long.

Again this is a good novel where you will find a Tyrant ML who cares for his partner feelings, happiness, pain and suffering.

I haven't finished reading this, so I won't rate it for now, but this is a cute story with Mary Sue protagonist.

I don't actually like too much 'sue'-ness especially when the protag overuse it to slap canon fooders, but it isn't like that in the story. Both main characters also have their emotional moments which are done really well by the author. So they aren't just cardboard.

I originally thought this would be a high-tension story (dramatic or tragic) because of the theme and how the main pairing started out, but... more>> it's actually quite comedic and really an enjoyable read.

I still really love the theme tho and how the pairing started out using each other, to mutual teasing, competing in flirting and slowly developing feeling for each other. It all happen in 30-ies chapters, but I feel everything is too quick, I want to savour every one of their interaction! I think this author has good EQ and make good characters with decent amount of it too. <<less

This was very different from other novels and the bickering couple is so cute that I can't get enough of it.. The story line is very good.. The chapters After the death of the couple is very interesting..I really liked it.. The misunderstandings are some what painful but it contains deep love.. Don't know what to say..😘💗

I was overwhelmed looking for novels to read, finally found this novel audio drama, and it was

honestly very funny and interesting. reviving a long lost feeling. I feel happy with it

It made me fall in love and laugh out loud many times

I read someone reread it 10x and not get bored... it feels good to get this feeling again

Cute and funny, reminds me of the wife is first novel.

a story whose development is unpredictable, from a harem love story that develops into a detective story then a mystical curse and adventure, finally to cultivation and modern stories.

Remember to read the fanwai,

very interesting and gives a sense of satisfaction at the end.

Gosh! This novel is one of my top favorites. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I loved both the MC and ML. They are the ultimate power couple—smart, cunning, ruthless, and deeply in love with each other! Wanna cry. The scheming, angst, sacrifices, and plot twists are soooo good. Not to mention the MC acting pitiful and weak😂. Wei Lian is really something. And Jun Zhu, the master guru—I loved that man. When they traveled to modern times, his reaction to the historical adaptation of the MC and ML was priceless. I laughed so hard... more>> with him. The censorship in modern times created a brotherhood instead of undying love between MC & ML. Hilarious. HAHAHA. <<less

When I read the first few chapters, I was getting ready for a lot of angst and misunderstandings. I was honestly getting read to scold the ML in my head.

But it turned out to be so sweet and fluffy. MC is a troublemaking little fox character, and ML is a cute big puppy. It took a lot of time for them to gain each other's full trust but from the start, they treat each other relatively decently.

The comedic undertone here is also pretty good. When the main characters get together,... more>> they are absolutely hilarious in the antics they stir up.

The ending was also quite nice, since it cleared up a lot of things. I feel like it's a shame there wasn't a little bit more resolution to the other side characters though.

I usually stay away from novels with ancient chinese setting because I always take long to finish so I try to read until chapter 5 to gauge my own interest rate but boy, I didn't even realize that I'm already on chapter 10. This book had me on a chokehold. I cannot put it down.

Give it a chance. It's really really good. I had a good laugh and a good cry. And the MC and ML are just so sweet.

I finished the whole novel with the extra and overall it's really good to read.

The story was so sweet and beautiful, the auther did good job and translator did so well too.

MC and ML complete each other, the romance was like sugar and the sugar kept increasing with each chapter.

... more>> ML is kind of inconent, childish and it's funny because at the start of the novel he acted as mature evil.

I liked volume 1 and 2 but not the early 3 volume thro it's explained in end of 3 volume, l couldn't really enjoy it. The last volume was really beautiful especially the space time part.

The extra was unexpected twist, I was shocked but it's really bought more fun to the story.

everything is good about the novel But I had to rate it 4 stars because of some parts of the story made me uncomfortable.

It was amazing. I saw a comment saying that they hate how OP the protagonists were but there is a reason for that which you would have known if you read it till the end. Plot was good, Romance was great, and no plot holes. The MC and ML were ready to sacrifice anything including themselves for the well-being of the other. It was so touching. Another thing I loved the most was, the author really did a good job with all the side characters and their stories. Finished reading the main story.

This book is a little overrated, not that it's bad, just not that good. There are several things that make me think so.

  • As explained in other comments, the author over explains (of course in text narrative not through conversation).
  • Judging from the various tags, I thought this would be a heavy and serious read. But no, this is just a romance novel with a historical background. Please note, if you are just looking for a full romance novel, then this is for you. If not, then this book is not suitable.
  • The background of the story is not mature, many things are not in accordance with reality. I know this is a novel but at least a novel should also have clear logic.
  • In relation to the above point, the characters of MC and ML are a bit meh. Their virtues do not match their backgrounds. Lack of knowledge in the past does not mean they are slow to mature, in fact it can be said that they have their own wisdom and of course also mature faster. But MC and ML are a bit like teenagers (high school students) in my opinion.
  • Last but not least, I just think that ML doesn't really deserve MC. It's true that MC falls in love with ML, but that's under the condition that he was initially forced.

Unforgettable Characters and an Engaging Story.

I recently finished reading this book, and I'm already experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Both the main lead (ML) and main character (MC) are incredibly memorable, lovable, and adorable in their own unique ways. Their dynamic as a power couple is truly captivating.

The world-building is exceptional, and the development of their relationship is beautifully crafted. The story's setting and plot intricacies draw you in, making it hard to put down. This book is definitely one of the better BL novels I've read. It's absolutely worth reading.

This is a really sweet romance novel between two OP royals from different kingdoms. It's mostly fluff and comedy with dashes of interspersed angst. The plot is there but pretty straightforward. There's no dogblood (other than their childhoods/pasts) or annoying face slapping. Overall, I liked this lighthearted feel-good romcom that I don't need to turn my brain on to read. The MC and ML are pretty cute once they start behaving more authentically with each other.

Also the team at Peach Blossom Codex does a really great job with the translation.... more>> Thanks for the hard work!! <<less

Leads aren't very likeable but they're both compelling in their own way.

It's taken about fifty chapters or so to get to some actual plot but the stakes are still pretty low. I feel like this could have been a much more interesting story if the author had done more to integrate the romantic main plot into the political intrigue subplot. I'm also kind of irritated that the author seems to backtrack on the implication that intimacy between these two characters was mutually pleasurable around 20 chapters later to suddenly state... more>> that it had all been painful instead :/ Kinda killed my mood to keep reading tbh because MC has shown a strong tendency to loudly and directly address when ML does things he doesn't like, he's also established as utterly shameless. Why would talking about improving ML's bedroom skills be a taboo topic for him? Even if MC's an unreliable narrator, that still doesn't account for why now all of the sudden he'd point it out. It's disappointing.

A whole, semi-complex world was set up around these two characters but for whatever reason they don't seem to engage with it aside from their sad backstories and addressing occasional minor inconveniences like romantic rivals who aren't even blips on their partner's radar, and the occasional rude courtier. MC is also absurdly overqualified and he has absolutely no reason to be aside from being ML's equal. It's just not believable. They're both badasses but nothing actually happens to make that badass status useful or, god forbid, to offer a real challenge to that status. <<less

Obsessed with this novel. MC and ML are both OP as hell but the focus of this story is on their developing relationship and the way they slowly open their hearts to one another. It really is one of my favorite novels, would highly recommend!

Absolutely love everything about these two. They have a connection that truly is one of a kind, and way they understand one another is so beautiful. The slow development of their relationship is perfect, and there's a good amount of humor for a novel without a... more>> comedy tag.

The modern world with the breaking of the third wall was so big brain too. The two of them reading the novel themselves was actually hilarious, especially with ML getting exposed for his "nightmare" of a spring dream hahaha

Started this novel out of boredom, just something to read during lunchtime, so it took me by surprise how I ended up so invested in finishing them. It took me 3 days to finish them!

This is a 10/10 recommended novel. The development of the characters and story are so beautifully well-done. I love my protagonists strong and smart, and both Ji Yue and Wei Lian are definitely my cup of tea. Starting as enemies and ending as lovers for eternity, you will find yourself giggling at their antics once they... more>> become honest with their feelings toward each other, but before that, you might shed a tear or two because of course this novel has angst. And I love every moment I spent reading this one.

So totally recommend this for everyone to read! <<less

A must read!!! Such beautiful story! Both cp just wonderful! Love the style of author writing. Both cp were very sweet and endearing. The story also so so good. The extras were best as well. The romance were both op and bit of realism. But still the romance is what most of us want. No regret reading this. The author spins a wonderful tale and translator is just did a great job. Thank you.
