There's a lot of reviews of the novel, so I won't talk about it. I only say that I read it twice, and will probably read again.

I want to talk about the FL's father. When she left the family, he kept making efforts to bring her back, but she didn't agree. The environment of the family was not good, dominated by the old grandma and wife, oppressing FL her whole life. I kind of feel bad for the father, who only wanted to have a happy harmonious family at home.... more>> I see him as a sad hero, who worked hard all his life but didn't get family happiness. I don't blame him, because it's just what kind of person he was, with weak personality, and he left raising of his children to his mother and wife.

Still the FL saw his efforts, and didn't break off relations with him completely. But every time I think how he made a (small) room for her but she never lived in it, all his efforts in construction and renovation, it makes me want to cry a little. <<less

I literally made an account to write a review because of how much this pissed me off. This will probably be biased because I'm feeling mad while writing this.

First of all, I thought this would be a cool, typical face slapping novel. Those are always pretty nice to read when I'm bored. Plus, it would be really cool to see a badass FL who is always calm.

But NOPE. First of all, the MC cultivated for 30 years. 30 years of extra life experience. They kind of just brush off the... more>> transmigration part but I'll just move on. She didn't make huge contributions, but she should have tempered herself over the years and learned some marketing skills?? I mean she was running a business, she should've learned how to interact with people. But its like she has zero eq. I get that she ignores her family cause they seriously suck, but she also has no respect for any of them. Her dad buys her a bunch of stuff and gives her so much allowance (hundreds of dollars is a lot!) but she doesn't even thank him. She disregards the work he put in to build a cabinet and a new room for her. She just throws in her 2 cents and ditches whenever she wants, which does not show the maturity of someone with much more life experience. Her dad is probably my favorite character so far cause he admits to his mistakes but he's trying to make it up to her. Except MC just takes the money and expects everyone to understand her. Also she just calls up that dude who has a crush on her as if he's her minion. Like uh shouldn't you at least be nicer to him cause he's helping you out a lot.

Second, I'm assuming the premise is that the MC has let go of the past because she hasn't been in the modern world for so long. But clearly, she's still sulking and holding a grudge like a kid, which she is not mentally. Fine whatever, but she also makes no moves to resolve that heart knot. She keeps reminiscing about how she was wronged and either completely shuts down or gets violent in front of her family. There is no in between and she doesn't make any attempts at communication. There is a difference from being calm and just not talking. Clearly she is the latter because shes not trying to solve any problems and just sits by and lets everything happen to her. Her family is also extremely crazy and messy like what the heck author. Every character is just weirdly irrational. The women all hate her a lot, which I get a little cause she's troublesome, but they're going way too far. The men in the house for some reason support her even though she's been silent and just flew in and out of the house? I don't get it.

Third, her iq. My god she is not a smart person. Seriously she just runs out of the house like twice? Her dad and brother chase after her but she ignores them, not even reassuring them but just leaves. And then she realizes she has no money. So then she just sits there and calls her minion to rescue her. Dude, you couldn't just lock yourself up in the balcony like before? Why didn't you think about it before that you had no money?

I also can't understand her the least bit because we get like no thoughts from her. I feel like I'm watching the story from spectator mode. I can't get attached because everything she does is unreasonable. All the characters are crazy, and just briefly I'll say that the pacing is weird. We get lots of details of things like outfits but nothing about peoples emotions other than the random family quarrels. The scenes switch without much detail and its a brain workout to figure out whats happening.

Overall, seriously not a fan of this story. My brain cells were dying. Nevermind the face slapping parts, I can't even bother to finish the intro. <<less

This is a story about growing up and cultivation, with a relationship that grows from immature to lasting as well.

At first, I was dissatisfied with the male lead because he wasn't what I was used to. He was arrogant, childish, and rebellious unlike our usual OP super capable ML who are written to match the FL. However, because we get his thoughts and feelings expressed throughout this novel I found myself more and more invested in him and their relationship. He grows up throughout the novel, and even before you... more>> hit halfway I promise you'll be satisfied that he was the one she chose.

I took off a star because of how frustrating I found her family.

Spoiler

Her father kept vacillating between acknowledging his guilt then wiping all that away and blaming her. It was just constant criticism after criticism. Even when she's successful it was never enough because it wasn't EXACTLY what he wanted her to do. He would criticize her and tell her not to be a star, then when she quits the industry he becomes angry that she's not continuing. I know this kind of toxic environment has become many people's reality in one way or another, so the story isn't unrealistic. I just wish she had cut them off entirely rather than continuing to reply, albeit lukewarmly, even until the end of the novel. Everytime her father was mentioned I couldn't help but groan internally. Such a hypocrite. I won't bother to mention her mother/grandmother because they're just unreasonable tr*sh of family members. Vitriol is all they know how to spew.

Her Aunt/Uncle's family more than make up for her nuclear family's deficits, so despite the frustration there is some relief. She does have the ability to maintain good family relationships, which just goes to show it's the environment that affects someone's personality, not just who they were born to. Our girl knows who really deserves her filial piety.

Concerning our female lead, she's cool, hardworking, and unfazed through much of the novel. There aren't any big battles or faceslapping because her focus is always on cultivation. While there are hoards of internet sheep included in the novel, they don't affect her one bit because she 1- doesn't have time to go on the internet, and 2- genuinely doesn't care about people she doesn't know. It's nice to have a novel with the entertainment industry where the FL herself gives no f*cks. Some may wish she was more emotional, but considering her time as an immortal (and age of at least 50+) you can't expect her to truly have exaggerated emotions. Don't get me wrong though, She does cry/express sadness and happiness. She's not a robot, she's a phoenix risen from the fires of abuse, neglect, and loneliness.

In the end, there's love, marriage, children (although I wish there was more mention of her pregnancy etc), and cultivation. There's even a hint that in that cultivation world her man would see her again. So I'm pretty satisfied (I managed to binge read this after all) even if her family were as annoying as a piece of lettuce that you just can't get out of your teeth.

This is really good stuff. I like reading cultivation in the modern world, but sadly there are just too few with female MC's. This one, even tho it's short, even tho its focus isn't even on cultivation made me binge-read. And I wasn't disappointed.

Our MC lived a shitty life in her first life, then got rebirth at a cultivation world. Spent 30 years there and came back to the time when she was 15-16 yo (I'm not sure, Chinese age system confuses me).

She isn't overpowered, arrogant, revenge-driven, and dependant on... more>> a ML pants to get things done. She just likes to do things her way and is extremely hardworking.

As for cheats... having a better cognitive talent (something she already had before cultivating, it just got boosted with cultivation) and talent to never forget something she saw or read, and that's it. She is indeed, supposedly, the strongest human on earth because of her cultivation but she doesn't use it to who knows, become a mafia leader, or beat up people she doesn't like. she just uses it to open a door to the entertainment world as a good martial arts actress. Her main focus is studying and to make money for cultivation resources, as she did in the cultivation world.

As for the ML, what I liked the most is that even if she wasn't that impressive or didn't have that many emotional scars (in her past life) because of her family, I think the ML would still be beside her. It's not because she is pretty, strong, intelligent. He just likes "She", whatever package she has. He is a typical rebellious teenager at first, that could not understand his family and went green spiky hair to get attention. But as the history goes he gets himself up and strives to at least follow MC's footsteps. He has family issues but doesn't try to fix it - because he understood that he could not expect from his parents something that they never had or expected. They are in a marriage agreement and don't feel bad about this. If the parents themselves were ok with this, what he could even do?

As for the MC's family, it gets to the point where you just want to pack them in a package and send them to the farthest artic. Her grandmother is hardcore patriarchal, her grandfather is a wall decoration, her mother is a controlling hysterical woman, her father is a typical henpecked husband and filial son, her sister is a friggi'n bit*h and her brother just lives in his world (but is the house little prince).

Next can be a little long, but I just want to make some clear points.

This family is hard to swallow because everything is just too unfair for the MC, but this portraits how a Chinese patriarchal household can be. Nowadays it's way better but please mind that if a couple had a daughter, not too long ago, they would be disposed of as in abortion, tr*sh bin or homicide, even more in rural areas where even education isn't that cared of by the government. And this is a practice spanning 2.000 years, not only in China.

As for I imagine the timeline of the novel history goes, China already had the one-child policy and benefits for a single female baby in the family. Is this case, families would receive compensation for having the first baby as a daughter and would be eligible to have one more child without penalties in some provinces. But the government gave preference to boys, Chinese history gave preference over boys. So one female in a family can be swallowed, but not two. So that's why, I suppose, when the MC was born the family chose to just give her away (even tho the grandmother wanted to simply drown her in the river and wasn't even shy about this) to their family in the countryside. MC's family more like could pay the penalty for getting a third child. I would bet if the third turned out to be another girl, this would lead to a divorce and the baby would surely be thrown out. This is how cancerous a patriarchal household can be.

So, to simply put, MC was seen as a completely unnecessary burden. Worse than a pet, a cat, a dog. This is completely unfair and infuriating but at the same time way too real, unfortunately.

As for the family per se, here are some spoilers:

Spoiler

The Father can be the most controversial and infuriating one from this bunch. You already could expect the reactions from the other members, besides the brother they were tr*sh to the beginning to end. But the father was contradictory and at the same time... this was how he was supposed to be. One time he reflects on the MC's bad treatment by the family, tries to do good to her, but in the end, he still can't understand how the MC is stubborn, how can she be this unfilial. I think he does like his daughter in his way, but it's more as an obligation as a parent. As a treasured male, he can never understand how an unwanted female can feel. For him the family is harsh but it is her filial piety duty just to keep up with it - says the son that had everything to the best the family had delivered to him. So he can't understand the MC and even if he tried a little more I doubt it would make much difference, due to his education. That's why I approve the way MC handled her family - just be not intimate acquaintances that just happen to be her biological family. Not reporting this family to abandonment in the police is the epitome of filial piety in this case.

As for how the MC dealt with her family, I thought it was the best. She didn't try to get revenge, even against her sister. She just treated them a little better than strangers from the beginning to the end. Even tho her brother tried time and time to get near her, she just maintained a polite distance. The only one that did felt hurt for her was this brother but it was just too late. He never treated her bad but the thing is... he never did anything. He just lived in his little world and enjoyed the benefits of being the house's only son. He more or less received the same ideology as father Su but was way better than he, just in this.

And his end was satisfying. What could be worse to a patriarchal house than it's only male descendant turned out to be gay? And the fault lies entirely on the household females. To put it simply, he got so much traumatized with his grandmother, mother, and elder sister personalities that he just straight got to reject a relationship with a woman. he would rather be single than get married to a female like them.

And the sister, even tho the readers asked the author to give her a "bad" ending, she just made it so she got everything she wanted at the start, the family property. In the end, she got to be the second mother Su. She realizes her wish but it was still a bitter one.

This is a good story more about relationships and growth, with a bit of cultivation on it. It isn't the best written but it sure does have many charms. A worth read. <<less

What's up with the commenters blowing hot and cold about MC's dad?

One commenter said he was absolutely incorrigible and a tr*sh of a person, while the other commenter was roasting the MC about being a complete brat towards the dad, who is the only redeeming factor in the story.

Personally, I feel like everyone in this story was selfish af and the writing style was plain bland and emotionless:

    1. MC's Dad - First is indifferent towards MC's plight, then starts to feel guilty and wants to redeem himself after MC stops being a rebellious child, but his affections are all in consideration of himself and his viewpoint is of the typical Asian dad who demands good reputation/image and wants his children to be obedient. I'd say he is a realistic figure who is neither good or bad.
    2. MC - Oh boy oh boy oh boy, I don't know what crack the author is on but she is written in an emotionless, selfish (she even says so herself) way, who completely ignores her past friends and family and yet is strangely compassionate at times.
      1. If not for her friends willing to be with her and the ML continuously chasing after her, at the end, she would be all alone and no one would care.
      2. She gives her own talisman of health to a student that is secretly jealous and against her, in which this talisman is greatly beneficial to the student's health. This is completely inconsistent because the MC is cold and (has killed in the cultivation world) so she shouldn't even consider helping out.
      3. OP and mary sue
    3. MC's mom - A 2-dimensional villain only there to rile the reader's anger. Her viewpoint confounds me, MC is her child but she treats her like a bastard. I have no idea what she's thinking.
    4. ML - Described as cute, and ig he's ok but not great. I feel no love between ML and MC.
Overall, the plot is ok, character development is TERRIBLE, world building meh, romance factor FEELS COMPLETELY OFF, and the writing style makes the story superbly boring.

I have no idea why there are so many high ratings. Compared to some other just as decent novels, this one is just rated very high. HM.

You could kill off all the characters and the book and I wouldn't feel a thing. None. Zilch. Nada.

I don't recommend reading this.

This novel is just unbelievably boring. The story progresses at a snail pace and there's absolutely zero plot development. If you read the synopsis, then I'm afraid you have just read what I believe is the entire novel. Yes, this story is literally just the MC studying every day and taking school exams then placing higher and higher on the school exam ranking. It feels like I'm just reading the same chapter over and over but written from different angles.

I don't suggest reading this.

Even though this wasn't a revenge filled, face slapping rebirth story, it was still satisfying, and binge worthy.
It can be frustrating at times because the MCs EQ is abysmally low, but at the same time, it reveals that it takes WORK to woo a worthy woman. She has her own focus, so to get next to her, it takes commitment.
That's what I really loved about this story, from beginning to end, was his commitment to HER.

The ending was poignantly sweet too.

This is a really geat story. The first few tens of chapters got me to tears, while the rest made me smile like a fool reading it.

Despite the supernatural element, the story is very realistic. Child abuse, extreme patriarchial family, neglecting parents, teen rebellion, outside prejudices---it's all too real. My heart broke numerous times for our poor MC.

The characterization in this story is simply amazing. The author truly captured the character's mind and explored it well with light narratives. There's MC and her abusive patriachal family, MC's sha ma te... more>> gang that's perceived to be problem kids with their family issues, supportive teachers, a poor 2nd ML with his youth-like wishful thinking, and a super cute ML with first love syndrome.

The most impressive part is how these characters managed to develop enough depth as the story goes. MC's dad, in particular, had grown a lot as a character. From being a pushover ignorant dad watching his child got abused daily, to somewhat knowing and felt guilty, and in the end acted arrogantly blaming his wife, mother, and eldest daughter while washing his hands clean and shamelessly trying to take advantages from MC. There's also MC's brother who grew up watching his sister got abused by the other women in his house and ended up fearing women. It's truly rare to see this depth of characters in popular light webnovels.

The only character with weak development and lack of depth, ironically, is the ML. It's quite sad to see a boy with so much color, spunk, potential, and capital to only be developed as a sidekick for MC. He literally didn't have any goals or will of his own except chasing MC. His sole purpose of existence is for her, even until the very last chapter. He's not a character of his own, which is very funny since he's supposed to be the ML. He simply serves as a supporting role to our OP MC and has an even less impact in the story than other supporting roles. Even Robin in Batman series has a bigger role than he does in this story.

The plot is quite simple and nicely paced. Reading this really took me back to my high school days, remembering the strict study hours in advanced class and the excitement of competing in science olympiads. Sadly it's not humanly possible to date like MC did with those circumstances. It's only possible if you're a cultivator crossing over to muggle world ┗|・o・|┛

At first I thought that the plot was kinda all over the place since the author didn't give enough backstory of MC's life in the cultivation world and just directly told the story of her living in her previous life's world without any context and she immediately had a goal of cultivating again. But then I read the ending, which cleared up everything yet left me broken-hearted...

Spoiler

It turned out her crossing over was just a dream made by her heart demon based on her first life's memory when she was trying to ascend to mahayana. That was why MC never felt any emotional attachment when she got back. She never got her revenge on her family and she kept ML at an arm's length, not fully giving her heart to him. Those cute scenes with ML never actually happened (つ﹏⊂)

Wow this made me hate studying even more... lol

I didn't expect that it would this heavily oriented on actual studying & school, but it was. I think I had more stress reading about people stressing over exams than I ever did before. China's educational system is terrifying to me hahaha I would not survive! The premise was interesting enough; I've never really read a novel that focuses on the main protagonist re-transmigrating back to her original life. It leaves a sense of aw shit, the real world again?? I'm not... more>> surprised she wants to go back to being a cultivator because, as she said, how can you possibly revert to a normal mundane life after seeing that. That being said, I DID NOT enjoy how the novel chooses to progress. I quite like the idea of MC studying hard & doing everything in her ability to overturn her situation, but not for two-thirds of the story. It becomes monotonous & tedious to read because sadly even the face-slaps weren't that satisfying either. She chooses to be indifferent to the family who mistreats her & in turn, they become rowdier & shameless, always having misconceptions about her. Midway, it feels that the author is pretty much done with then novel & haphazardly scribbled the events after high school. The conclusion was evidently subpar & I felt like I wasted my time reading. It's just bad writing tbh

MY ONLY PRO: the male lead. Super different from your typical cold arrogant hotties because this fool not only sports green hair but he is a total puppy for MC. I am so glad that Cheng Kangyao is the male lead & not Zhao Moqin since the latter is such an incredibly boring pick. Cheng Kangyao is such a supportive darling, never once being pushy & overbearing to MC. He's her stalwart protector, the sole person she lets into her heart, & I appreciate how he embraces her with no doubts. Whatever her goal is, he swears to be by her side through it all. I just adore him & I think he's one of the best features of this novel.

Spoiler

I am sooooooo pissed that he did die & she didn't have the heart (nor brains) to try to teach him cultivation. I suppose it would be kind of a waste if he started late because qi is so scarce in modern times BUT MY HEART SAYS OTHERWISE. As for the ending, I assume her transmigrating back to her past was a form of tribulation & she ends up meeting the male lead again. Ah but it s**ked so I'm salty

Spoiler

The story is so so but the surprise at the end of the story is quite nice. She was still in the cultivation world, undergoing a divine tribulation that lasted for a hundred years. At the end of her mortal life, when her husband died at the age of 120, she woke up at the present time knowing that she had passed her trial and in so doing, finally achieved dao.

The idea of life as a repeat mechanism that allows us to right the wrongs of the past is quite intriguing. This is that story. The heroine never loses sight of her goal, which is to cultivate and attain immortality. All the things she went through was in pursuit of that goal, whether winning math contests, being the top of her class, letting go of her family that didn't want her in the first place. To be the best and to be emotionally cool and distant while doing it... there is a lesson in there somewhere.

The idea of such a story is complex yet satisfying. It's just that the writing oftentimes bogs down due to boring scholarly details that is quite dull and boring. She reaches this level and that level just like in cultivation but the repeat mode gets hohum after a while.

The surprise ending makes up for it though. It is refreshing and honestly, very very intriguing.

Great read, warning, definitely not romance oriented but more career wise and has gender roles and childhood traumas of various types as a main focus. It's also written realistically so no dog blood dramas or s*upid cannon foddery.

THIS ISN'T A ROMANCE/REVENGE PLOT, GUYS!

The reading can be dry for those who expect something else.

To clarify to her hacks, cultivation itself is a hack that will bring various benefits like clean pores (great physical conditions), physical and mental endurance and spells and potions (which she retained from previous cultivation life and made... more>> all of it herself). So it's not author giving her too much but that's really the only hack. She's hardworking in all aspects.

Every character have been meticulously written and have great depths, the novel challenges the traditional views of career women are viewed and how many are still trapped or trapping themselves within.

The love relationship seems only like the third focus with career and family drama in the front but still isn't lacking.

It's a great story about a transmigrated reborn girl prevailing through hardships and her own ideals.

The only negative points I could give is the slight repetition the description of her "soaking up knowledge like a sponge" towards the end of the story more frequently, and the transmigration and rebirth process is wishy washy but that's it.

Details that will contain spoiler:

My thoughts about the father (the one with most frequent contact to MC)
Spoiler

He might be the first one to step up to offer give MC the basic necessities she lacks but is still condescending about it and demands from her to be understanding regardless how her family mistreats her. It's like he's giving her alms as a bystander when in fact he is her father and these things are necessary by law in the first place. If it was a blood dog drama he'd probably be behind bars. He is being described as someone with a soft temper but he's definitely not someone without ego and vanity. Also since he was raised and influenced by his mother (the patriarchy hag) he never realised the wrongs of his parental conduct or spousal, even. Later on, you can probably tell he's the worst of scums as he even wanted to use the success of MC as a stepping stone for his other two children. If he'd only treated his wife better, these sort of unhappiness wouldn't linger in their family, it was after all his own mother who antagonized his wife from morning till night treating her like a unpaid maid and birth chamber.

[collapse]

Regarding the rest of the Su's

Spoiler

The father in-law was as good as invisible while the mother in-law, the grandmother always quick to step in and add her two cents, nothing is really known much about her life story except that she willingly and proudly aborted many daughters before she finally had a son.

This level of bone deep ideals is hard to change especially at their age. Of course nobody can because of the strong integrated ideal of filial piety. A role like daughter-in-law will never be able to get a word in, (not to mention the grandchildren) mother Su was destined to suffer in that kind of an environment and later transforms from tortured to torturer.

There is no love in Su family. The only objective and highest regarded honor is to have is to make the family line flourish.

That ultimately made both eldest daughter and their only son suffer in the years to come. They went as far as to try to "straighten and fix" the son's homosexuality by imprisoning at home and attempted to force a marriage at the age of 35+ for two months after luring him back under a ruse of sick dying elderly. While the eldest daughter was treated by her in-laws as a birth chamber which just ended in more misery to the point of divorce and coming back home to her parents. People might find the MC's coldness towards her family boring or lacking but honestly against those type of people, pretending like you're listening is the best option. She never deemed them worthy of her attention or saving.

[collapse]

The love relationship

Spoiler

I love how the ML is by no means some fully developed young iceberg CEO, he's realistically also deals with his share of family strives, his own insecurities and pains. The MC's change and newfound determination was like a beacon of light guiding him into a happier place (career wise and in his own mental peace). He never strayed from her side and she never strayed from her ideals and ambitions. They happily walked side by side from the beginning til end.

I see a lot of people blasting this novel saying that it isn't realistic and that the characters are obviously 2d and can't exist in real life and that some characters are wronged by the MC and they are pitiful.

Well, sorry to tell you, but each and every character follows a real life psychological aspect. Let me explain.

Spoiler

The grandmother. This old woman is set in her ways. She grew up being taught that women were only a loss to the family while she was taught the "duties of a woman". So when the daughters were born, they were disregarded and treated as money loosing goods. As for her attitude difference between the MC and the sister, it is because the sister was raised in the family and she gained some emotional attachment. As for the MC, it is because she returned to the family which she shouldn't have. She forced the MC to work to make up for the unnecessary loss in income due to her return.

The grandfather. Standard patriarch. He doesn't get much story time, because he is a former patriarch. The reason why he helps the MC isn't because he feels bad for her or has a sense of guilt, but because his son is the bread winner of the family. His son does better than him in earning money and financially supporting the family. This has caused him to feel a sense of insecurity and that he has lost the power and authority as the patriarch. By helping the MC, he feels that he is still the decision maker of the family and that no one can oppose him.

The indifferent father. The father has no prior emotional attachment to the MC before she returns to their home. He relies on his wife expecting her to take full responsibility and handle all matters. However, when he starts to realize what the daughter has been through, he wants to make up for her. But, the way he makes up for her is in the wrong direction. He doesn't try to build an emotional bond with the MC, and instead is materialistic. This is called, self satisfaction. He doesn't really want to make up for her, but get rid of his own guilt. This is what's called a hypocrite. As soon as he looses his sense of guilt, he would return to his indifferent attitude.

The abusive mother. While the mother seems to be very aggressive, she is in fact very insecure. She may seem like the standard villain that you would find in most novels, illogical and doesn't make sense, but she is in fact a perfect example of a standard abuser. You have to remember that abuse and bullying is an addictive behavior. For most who abuse others, it isn't to satisfy some pe*verted desire but because they have feelings of powerlessness. Abusing others lets them feel like they have gained control and are not as week and insecure as they really feel. The mother's abuse stems from the fact that she came from a patriarchal family that disregards daughters, and married into another patriarchal family, where she received neglect and abuse for giving birth to a daughter and not a son. After she gave birth to a son, her status in the family changed and she was no longer subjected to the abuse. However, she still has the emotional scar left behind. As a result, she became aggressive and domineering to make up for the helplessness that she felt. When the MC was away from her family, she gained a sense of security by ignoring her existence. When she returned to the family, the scar was opened, and the mother felt that the MC is the representation of her weakness and helplessness. Thus, she became an abuser.

The sister. She, like her mother is an abuser. However, her personality doesn't come from some deep psychological shadow, but from a sense of loss and insecurity. When the MC wasn't living in the home, she was the daughter that was favored by both her mother and father. Even if the grandmother disregards her as a daughter of the family, she was the eldest sister and and for the face of the family the mother never let her go without. When the MC moved in, she was moved into her room, invading her personal space and it was perceived by the sister that what she has would be taken away. She became an abuser to increase her own sense of security. And when the father started acting to "make amends" for the MC, she felt that she was loosing more, while also regaining some of what she has previously lost.

The brother. He is probably the only truly pitiful character in the book. He started as an immature child that went along with the family. Due to the change in personality of the MC, this pushed the brother to think for himself, instead of just taking everything for granted. This caused him to mature and sympathize with the MC. This later affected his life choices and caused a psychological shadow. The shadow of a having an extremely partial grandmother, mother and aggressive sister, he gained a sense of fear towards women and ended up being homos*xual caused by a psychological trauma. Please read below.

To note, homosexuality is usually determined by birth and is caused by a naturally occurring physical condition that modern medicine can't fully understand. But, for some people, homosexuality is caused by a psychological or a psychosomatic trauma. Of course, there are others who just choose to have physical relations with the same gender.

The boyfriend. He has a crush on the MC and is devoted. The reason for this isn't as simple as simply because he likes her. He has a sense of insecurity and loss caused by the marital problems of his parents. When he first got together with the MC and they were dating, he disregarded her and ended up being dumped. This amplified his sense of loss. Thus, he gained a liking for the MC. In other words, the MC has become his emotional support through his troubled times. And the reason that he is so devoted is that he is trying to regain his sense of being loved and cared for. This is a stand of human psychology and why humans naturally seek companionship.

The Main Character. The MC admits herself to being selfish. But selfishness is within human nature. We want better and when we have better, we want more. And when we are wronged, if not consciously we subconsciously hold a grudge against those who have wronged us, and will not easily forgive those who tortured us. In the case of the MC's family, she was tortured. She doesn't want nor need to forgive her torturers. This is why she becomes indifferent to her family and chooses to severe ties with them. While, we are taught that selfishness is wrong, most take it the wrong way. Being selfish is fine, being selfish to the point of inconveniencing others is wrong. The MC is a perfect example of being appropriately selfish. She wants what she can get and works hard to obtain what she can't get.

Some people have posted how wronged the father is, and that the MC is wrong for accepting some of the amends while not giving any emotional return to the father. As I wrote earlier, the father is only trying to make amends to ease his sense of guilt, and not because he truly cares for the MC. Why is it inappropriately selfish for not wanting make up with him and go through the drama to try and change her family for the better? The answer, it's not inappropriately selfish. It is personally reasonable, because people aren't so easy to change.

For those who have never experienced the neglect and abuse in the name of "family", you may feel that it is feel good story to make up and live happily ever after, but the writer is a realist and will not write something that is nearly impossible to happen in real life in the character settings.

Overall, this story is well thought out, and the character settings are even more so. <<less

It was an ok read. It may have been better if the author wrote from a closer perspective to the protagonist rather than the current perspective. Except from the beginning where the reader follows the story with FL, the later parts were more like just reading the story of FL, like a biography. Other characters had so much more lines than the FL, specially the ‘netizens’, which made it seem so far from the lead characters.

This story is worth 3.5 stars at best. Well, it started out 5 stars, then gradually became 3 stars as the story progressed. It gained another 0.5 star for its ending chapters.

The romance is good, albeit mellowed down. It's not similar to other popular romance novels where there's lot of kissing and s*x. This story tells an innocent, pure love. We have an OP character for our MC. She's an indifferent genius who knows what she wants and does not bend to other's demands (unless it's our ML who demands... more>> it ;)). This characterization goes well with our ML. The ML is a great character. He's not a genius and he's often overshadowed by our MC's greatness. However, what he has that is greater than others is his love for our MC. He's the best partner ever. The portrayal of the steady love between MC and ML is the strength of this novel in my opinion.

As for the negatives, the author really went for the lazy approach when he/she wrote the characters for MC's family. They were static and even after several years, their way of thinking was very rigid. There's no character development at all. This type of lazy characterization just makes you roll your eyes. For instance, the villainous grandma said our MC has a pig brain - this was when MC just won first place in an international math competition, after being ranked first in her school consistently and also winning first place in another contest, all while working in showbiz.

Another thing I disliked was some chapters are skippable. I skipped several chapters because the things that were happening became redundant and boring. <<less

If you're expecting a novel with a lot of drama & revenge then you can go back

this novel is about the daily life and struggles of a high school girl, it's slow-paced

So basically after the FL transmigrated back to the modern world as her 16 year old self she changes a lot, she no longer painted her hair or used makeup as a sha ma te & she decided to put her all in studies to become an immortal (?) & study medicine

FL can cultivate after transmigrating so this kind... more>> of helps her improve fast in her studies, but her progress in cultivation is slow. It's not like she came back and became a genius, it's more about her efforts and struggles to become better

it's quite sad that as the second born girl, her family neglected her by sending her to the countryside to be raised by her aunt. After she returns to her family, she tries to accept them but there's a stark contrast between the way they treat her other siblings (ex. She only has a folding bed in her sister's room, they didn't even buy her new clothes, so she uses hands me down and her grandma & mother are always insulting her). They keep treating her as a rebellious girl even after changing, so she decides to cut ties with her family & the only person who truly cares for her is her brother

so she starts working part-time to pay her tuiton and that's when she enters the entertainment industry

the romance is slow-paced & damn the ML is so cute. The ML is her ex-boyfriend, they had a good relationship even after breaking up (so most people think they are still dating)

ML tries to improve in his studies to keep up with FL, and he also treats her like family so their daily interactions are pretty cute & they have some deep tacit understanding

ML is the only person who understands her struggles, goals & way of thinking, so he's always supporting her in every step she takes

to be sincere I don't know how the story will end and at first I didn't know where it was heading, but I hope it's a happy ending

also heads up for the translator, as the updates are fast & consistent, also the chapters are split in translation <<less

This is an excellent school life/family drama/watching the main character and the people around her grow and change sort of novel.

The cast is fairly small but they all have depth. Mother Su and Grandma Su are probably the weakest of the lot, and sort of seem like 1-dimensional villains at times, though the author does try to add some depth to them that the reader can only barely see through their interactions with Father Su. Father Su himself is a great character because I was always torn between loving and... more>> hating him. He is the way he is, and he's less than ideal, but there are good reasons for why he got to that point, and equally good reasons for why the reader can feel justified in hating him for getting to that point, in short, he's a well-written character.

The male lead is very much the main character of a 'teen' romance, in the way that he's bashful and reserved instead of domineering and arrogant like a lot of similarly positioned characters in other stories.

However, I will say I took off a star because this is not a cultivation novel by any stretch, despite the title. The whole cultivation backstory barely plays a part in the plot and mostly only exists to explain away the main characters change in mindset (up to the point I've read at least). The entire cultivation aspect is only used a few times, sometimes she hands out a 'healing charm' to someone she's fond of or feels like she owes, but the charms just, like, relive tiredness at most - she's not a miracle doctor. Other times the cultivation is used to justify her good memory, or her penchant for wandering fearlessly into dark alleys (since she's strong enough to defend herself), or as a money-making thing when she gets some reputation as a 'kungfu master', but it doesn't really serve the story at all.

Like pretty much everything that happens in this story, you could remove the cultivation, and the story could still happen the same way. Her good memory could just be her having a good memory, her penchant for surviving risky things could just be her good luck or the result of being level-headed, her 'kungfu master' shtick could easily be replaced with some other, more mundane, skill. For instance, she could be really good at playing the piano, and the author could still hit all the same story beats where people don't believe in her skills but then she shows them her skills are real and then gets more reputation/popularity, but by playing the piano instead of by doing kungfu.

And because of that, the whole time I was reading the story, I had this uncomfortable feeling in the back of my head like, why is this even a cultivation novel? What is the whole cultivation angle adding to the story? And I haven't found any answers to those questions even after 250 odd chapters so... meh. Off with a star! <<less

the beginning chapters are really good the second half of the story is okay but nearing the end it just goes downhill IMO, the protagonist just becomes very... mary sue-ish.

Like chiaroscuro explained, lot's of deus ex machina, the FL in a later chapter is the "Deus", she's so OP and successful beyond human capabilities, IMO, like don't get me wrong there are ppl that are just blessed by gods, ppl that are good looking, athletic, pretty and obv will succeed in life, I have a friend that is like that... more>> but wow, the author just take it to the next level to the point it's just too much, not only that the FL become a successful celeb in such a short time, she also becomes an olympiad representing china and WINS (she did this while acting a movie...), tbh I'm fine with it IF the story hasn't rushed so fast, it's like MC win an in chapter x and then immediately win y in chapter x+1 and so on...

in summary, the con is that the story is too rushed, it's a matter of pacing, the FL wouldn't seem too OP if the author just places the FL "winning in life" plot in between fillers, mushy romance, other subplots, etc.

This is the only complaint that I have with the story otherwise IT'S VERY GOOD, especially the beginning part of the story. The pro in this

  1. well-developed side chara! the antagonist here is very realistic, and unlike another novel where the female fighting the FL is just one-dimensional character whose purpose of the story is to make the FL miserable for no reason, the reason the "antagonist" here is very real, you could find them in the real world. ex : the grandma dislike the FL because she is born in a society who teaches misogynistic view, the mom becomes like that because the grandma and I actually have an aunt similar to the mom, the dad and the brother is unhelpful at the beginning because they don't think it's their problems hence allow FL to be abused and neglected.
  2. Female friendships! although it's not in the forefront, I do like that the girl that use to oppose the FL become friends with her and that they did not pit another FL chara that is "prettier than her and also very smart" and make her into y'know the usual "I DonT WaNT ANyOnE BEtEr tHAn Me!!!" type of antagonist but rather make her someone that has her own purpose!
  3. the prota motivation is beyond the usual cliched, dog blood revenge story. I know some of the readers would prefer it if the FL would ruin the family but not only that would be cliched it wouldn't be in accordance to the FL personality, she's cool, logical and quite indifference. her motivation is that she wants a better independent life for herself surrounded by ppl she loves, and in the end, she did get that so why should she bother to make problems for herself? besides as much as I love face slap, it just gets annoying when FL face slap ppl for every little thing when her personality is supposed to be "cold, indifference, logical".

So far this is the vegetarian type of transmigration I have read. MC is not overpowered that she is the strongest and smartest just because she transmigrated. I also like the Male Lead who is not cold and possessive, instead he is like a young boy inlove chasing for his girl as he changes and work hard.

It has been few months since I’ve finished this novel, I still think about it once in a while which is rare since I read many stories everyday and forget about most of them afterwards. I didn’t realize it back then but this novel is probably my most favorite novel in this genre.

Have you ever thought if u could go back to your school days, if u had worked harder, if only we all could make wiser choices back then

In my opinion, the main theme of this novel is redemption,... more>> to wash away those regrets. I couldn’t do that but our FL could, and brings so much comfort to myself that I didn’t realize that I needed.

I like how clear cut our FL with her relationships. Although warm and kind family is ideal but irl we all know too well that it’s very rare. Many families are just people stuck together because of many things like benefits, filial piety, and many sticky things that the society has dictated to be right. Some people are stuck in vicious cycle in toxic relationships because of it. I like that she’s so clear headed and not bound by those rules.

The story is mostly about studying, might be boring for some but it’s such a cathartic experience for me. I just want to support her passing those hurdles since I can’t.

I also really like the ML, he’s not a perfect guy but he’s perfect for her. Their relationship is so healthy (compared to many that I know) that I feel like I can get my daily vitamins intake from reading about them. They support each other and make each other better, happier, just very good 👍👍

Ah! Also she made a skincare company, which is a plus for me cuz I love skincare! 😍 I think the ending was perfect, everything just comes into a full circle, there’s cause and effect for everyone and everything. Very clean, I like 👍

It has been few months since this novel but I haven’t found anything that can make me feel the same way the way I feel about this novel. <<less

The novel has it's ups and downs. Besides the unnecessary and repetitive parts and paragraphs, everything else was good and decent. I like that most of the important characters aren't just one dimension. I especially love that parts of our MC and her ML or friends interacting, it's very sweet. Overall, don't expect to much from this. It's just a decent and considerably lighthearted binge worthy novel.

The Ending

Did I just get cheated? It what immediately popped out of my mind after reading the end. It looked, felt rushed. It was really a pity.

Considerations

Spoiler

The ending of MC's brother was really bitter, I hope he finds some way to move forward and move on from a toxic family. Also sometimes I feel MC is incredibly ruthless towards the change of MC's father and brother. Maybe I'm just being soft hearted, also they were MC's heart demon for years so it's understandable that there's some trauma in there. Also based on the ending, I think MC didn't came to love ML in the end, she didn't even teach him how to cultivate, or maybe she already knows that she was trapped in an illusion?

[collapse]

Anyway, I want to read a sweet love story after this. Goodbye. <<less

The story definitely has its own demerits. But overall, it is a light satisfying read. 👍🏼

+ Positives

Sweet love story... Not mushy tho.

Satisfying way the MC rises to the top 😌

- Negatives

Less character development.

MCs character is too silent!😓

It's in line with her character, but isn't super likeable. (ML is good tho.)
