Forensic doctor Xie Qing transmigrated into a fictional 90s era novel, becoming the supporting sister character meant to highlight the female lead.

To avoid being affected by the dramatic main plot, she quickly left her family, moved into a dormitory, and immersed herself in the criminal investigation career.

While the female lead was busy with romance, she was dissecting corpses.

While the female lead was busy with family, she was dissecting corpses.

While the female lead was busy making money, she quietly made a fortune too.

Just when she thought she had safely passed the danger period and would no longer intersect with the main plot,

the male second lead, who was supposed to be “crazy for the female lead, deeply in love, and willing to crash into walls for her,” suddenly became her immediate superior.

Thus, the story (or rather, the accident) began again…

Tan Yi had never seriously looked at any girl other than the female lead until one day, when he and Xie Qing faced a “river float (*)” together, he suddenly opened his eyes…

Xie Qing: “Don’t worry, I have no interest in you.”

Tan Yi: “…”

(*) refers to a body found floating in a river.

Not to be rude but I think earlier review's view is too narrow. (I really don't mean to be rude, my vocabulary's just as narrow.)

MC dabbling outside her professional responsibilities (scene investigation, profiling, etc) is unrealistic. But taking it with a grain of salt cause idk much about their profession.

And, after reading 54 chapters I get that MC is:

1. A level-headed person. She's calm, mostly keeps to herself, humble, know and accepts the different faces of humanity. (That last one also answers the reviewer's other complaint about the family.... more>> It's naive to only see black and white.)

2. A professional. She's knowledgeable and likes her professsion.

3. Naturally curious. Shows through how she always ponders about the cases on her own. She's also mentioned dabbling on woodcarving and gardening. As well as some interest in offroading and camping.

4.A foodie.

Further explanation would be spoiler but those first three traits I mentioned is how she ends up sharing more responsibilities.

So I'm saying most online mystery-romance novels have their own degrees of unrealism sprinkled over them but the gradual process and MC's consistent character profile made it feel easier to accept.

To each their own opinion, but since I quite liked it I thought I should kinda defend it according to mine.

As for the myster aspect, the biggest mystery so far is the criminals behind Tan Yi's brother's mu*der + Shen Yi's. Other cases are interesting in their own way. Not as interesting as psycopathic/sociopathic cases but it's interesting to me how there can be so many kinds of humans out there and how one temptation or years of ab*se could push a person to crime. And how some people are just that shameless and evil. Yet we could have been shoulder to shoulder with them on our commute or the sidewalks. <<less

I can say that this novel is one of those that would be enjoyed if I read it in installments (so to speak). If I read it in one go, I would get desperate and throw it away because the FL would seem too much like a Mary Sue.

Why...

Spoiler

Well the FL can be a forensic scientist, forensic pathologist, a detective and she can do Physiology Profiles. Maybe it is because I don't understand how it works in other countries, and correct me if I am wrong but Forensic pathologists don't work in the field; they don't watch surveillance tapes, look for files of suspects, or do profiles.

Now in this book the FL is a do-all when it is only mentioned that she was a Forensic Pathologist in her past life... so when did she learn everything else? I don't know, because it's only mentioned that she knows it, it isn't even mentioned how it became useful in her last life. The only thing that is told about her past life is; that she had been a Forensic doctor for 9 years.

The other cops, even the veteran ones are always amazed by what she can do, in fact, most of the things she said were not even considered by them. And the new techniques are something the recruits don't know about... everyone thinks she is brilliant and fresh so much in fact that they don't question things that "are considered too new to speak about out loud, but when it's comes from her it's so outstanding".

The family is...

Spoiler

Not really important, we don't see a lot of them, in fact, the only times they talk is like 5 paragraphs in 15 chapters. We are told her family is a bunch of bad people who push her away, and then two sentences later the author just says "Well it's ok because they are not really bad they just don't see eye to eye". So I am left wondering are they bad? Or are they not bad but simply misunderstood? Is she leaving because they are not her family and it feels weird? Or is it because of what happens to the original girl in the book? Who knows.

[collapse]

So to end my rant, it's a good book to pass the time, shut your brain, and maybe do it in parts... take a fresh air and come back. <<less
