When the 32 year old Wen Che received his sixth “Best Male Lead” award, he got into an accident and was reborn as the 22 year old Ji Zhinong.

Ji Zhinong had just returned to his wealthy family but was ditched at his wedding by the fake young master’s show of pitifulness, becoming a complete laughingstock.

His family members cold, his career path obstructed, he could only save himself.

First he had to find someone whose coattails he could latch onto.

Li Shaoyao: “I see the shadow of my beloved in you.”

Ji Zhinong: “Huh?”

Ji Zhinong, focused on making money, accepted the role of acting as a substitute. He was always clear that in and outside the acting, he only sought self-protection, not true love.

But Li Shaoyao was very earnest. When Ji Zhinong was forced into the eye of the storm of criticism, disdained by thousands because of the scandals of the original owner of the body, Li Shaoyao said, “The one dating him is me.”

And then he proposed marriage for legal status.

Ji Zhinong: ???

This marriage didn’t last very long. Li Shaoyao, who was the best at lying to himself, brought up divorce.

Six Months Later

Big Boss Li took great pains to make a variety show tailor-made for himself: We Remarried

Emcee: “Why did you come to participate in this variety show?”

Ji Zhinong was stubborn. “For company resources.”

Li Shaoyao: “To pursue my wife.”

The year Wen Che got into an accident and passed away, the outside world was all paying attention to his family members, his fiancé, his managing team for their reactions. No one knew that the young master of the Li family who was unrelated to Wen Che had previously gone crazy for three months upon seeing the obituary.

I was looking forward to a novel of pure face slaps and love, only to find out the following (im gonna summarise what I reaď)

Spoiler

The MC was reincarnated into the host body because of some fantasy setting of the ML sacrificing his lifespan for MC's rebirth

At one point this sacrifice turns out to be a trick and ML has 30 minutes left to live by the time he figures MC is the one in the Host body.

in between, MC (host) was taken as a substitute for the actual dead MC, and the ML and everyone related to the MC was really secretive about what happened to MC after his death.

I dont even want to mention about the fake child brought into the family because that's a very commonly used plot.

MC also had a lover who made use of MC's company to do illegal stuff, which MC didn't know (because ML was being really secretive about anything regarding his white moonlight)

Back to ML having 30 minutes of life left: MC decides to die in ML's place because of this "love" which was borne from being cared for as a substitute?

Then ML does some magic thing to revive the MC.

So because originally, MC and the host's soul coexisted in the same body, once MC died, the host took over.

The host has many traumas surrounding his past and a very strong thirst to be loved, which leads to him pretending that the MC is still there. Since ML found out before the 30 minutes incident that MC is his reincarnated white moonlight, he found something wrong with how the Host was acting

then cue the divorce scene.

the Host was shocked because the ML wanted to divorce him for tricking ML that he was MC, but still accepted the divorce.

then here comes the absolute mess.

The Host was adopted into a family of tr*sh parents who had huge debts to loan sharks. Host knew it, MC knew it, ML knew it. But a single call from his mother asking for help brought the host into a trap. ML warned the host and MC not to come into contact with the original parents because of the stuff they have done, but Host still decided to go and find them.

Of course, the ML is also at fault because he was wallowing in drunken self pity and hatred for the Host and didn't get any of the Host's messages that he was gonna look for his fake parents.

The host was then found and ML tried to get host to go with him, but Host gave up on all hope and was hesitating for a long time.

Then someone decides to stab the ML and host jumps in to save the ML, getting stabbed and going to the hospital.

a series of things happen, and host decides to give control of the body to MC, with some underlying problems, like the MC having pretty much no memory of what important stuff happened and only knowing thr ML was a absolute *sshole and filed for divorce.

in the end, ML found out that MC has control over the host body again and there's like 5 chapters of ML chasing the MC to get married again.

just like my description of the plot, the actual plot made no sense to me and the extra fantasy elements with gods and ghosts seemed unnecessary.

the multiple bouts of death also seemed forced in a way that the author didn't know how to conclude the story.

pros: I thought the touch of MC and Host coexisting in the same body was nice at first, because of the traumas that the ML has to help MC overcome

Cons: because of this trauma, the MC had to solve the huge number of problems that Host body faces, without much help because the host didn't want to tell MC what happened in his memories.

Cons: another part is when a single person takes over the body - Host seems extremely lacking in the brains department as compared to MC, and seems overly thirsty for love. While it makes sense considering the past he'd had, I dont find enough love for the character to empathise with him.

Cons: the ending is a mess. Everything after MC face slaps his substitute (the boy that took his place in the Host's family) seems very strangely written to me. It would be more fitted as an arc in a quick transmigration story than an actual story

[collapse]

the translation quality is good, but my personal qualms with the story makes it low rated

I felt that my time was somewhat wasted because I spent an entire day and a half to read the story but was left with dissatisfaction which was barely solved by 5 chapters of resolution plot <<less

I was excited to read this because I love the entertainment genre with BL. However, the story's plot is so convoluted (admittedly it has its good moments) but it gets to the point where you need a bit more clarity once in a while instead of the continual mysteries that the MC couldn't solve about the original owner's past.

Spoiler

The most tragic thing is that our poor MC is subjected to frequent abuse one after another and it just breaks your heart because he really has nowhere to go. However, the most irredeemable issue here is the original owner endlessly leaves giant pits for the poor MC because he won't release complete memories to the MC but expect the MC to deal with all the abuse and terrible baggage he has left behind. The second heartbreaking thing outrightly making me so mad is that the ML won't tell the MC anything. Instead (despite solving the MC's problems) the ML persists in staying on his high horse and his delusional obsession with his white moonlight and does not notice that he is hurting the MC. Instead of enjoying this story, one can't help but feel constantly angry for the MC because he had so innocently (albeit naively) been mu*dered then he had to go through rebirth and still had to bear with this impossible tasks of solving the unhelpful uncooperative original owner's problems for him. Let us not even bother going into the plot hole of weird supernatural elements or the subplot that is too often used called "unfeeling worthless family (especially the useless biological mother) always siding with and warmly doting on the unrepentantly evil fake child" troupe.

.

On the plus side, the author can really build the drama which is worth reading, as the story is sometimes poignant and also heartbreaking. However, I wanted to witness some face slapping after all the abuse but I was disappointed and it left me unsatisfied and also utterly upset with it. <<less

I was hesitant to start reading this at first because of the unexplained 3.8 stars average rating but I read it anyway, so I’ll be the first to review this. As of writing this review, I have read 8 TLed chapters and finished the raws— they are very easy to understand.

Simply put, it’s another ‘movie king is schemed to be killed and reborn after his death, then meets OP ML who likes him and revenges for him— the end’ trope.. But here, there’s quite a lot more mysteries to unravel.

Spoiler

Such as ML’s past and the “shadow of his beloved”, the reason MC died and rebirthed (yes, it’s not just a “god somehow gave me another chance!” kind of thing), and original owner’s traumatic past— MC doesn’t have all of OG owner’s memories because the OG owner was traumatized and didn’t want to remember.

[collapse]

Things I like, and things I don’t like about this novel summarized o (^-^) o

PROs:

  • Interesting premise— not like the generic ‘movie emperor is reborn after being betrayed trope’, and has a lot of twists and turns.
  • Not too much suspense and tension— in a way, this could be a CON for some people, but for me who was looking for a break from pretty tense angst novels this was a PRO for me.
  • Bold and daring MC— but not in the s*upid way, he understands situations clearly and doesn’t rush in when he realizes something is wrong— he instead speaks with power and the truth. Despite ML being a powerful tycoon in the industry, he dares to refute him, and also dares to refute the original owner’s parents and the fake young master when he was putting on a pitiful act.
  • The people who committed wrongdoings are very 3D and are easy to sympathize with—
Spoiler

The fake young master already had low self-esteem because he was dumb, so when it’s revealed he was not the real one, he was so scared of being thrown away that he pressured the real young master (the original owner), which wasn’t really right but there were circumstances.

Spoiler

The selfish ex-boyfriend actually had feelings for the MC and felt guilt and regret for mu*dering the MC but tried to convince himself that it wasn’t his fault and that he did the right thing— which also wasn’t the right thing to do but the MC was already dead, the deed was done, it was already impossible to apologize and repent.

[collapse]

CONs:

  • Little to no world-building— too much tell, not enough show— for example, the nurse at the hospital was just called “the nurse”, no appearance, no description. The
  • Overly exaggerated plot, feelings, and actions of characters in general— like ML’s feelings for MC and fake young master’s desire to protect his young master title, yet his ignorance of his (non-biological) parents teachings from young— he also somehow has no feelings for them, and betrays them despite being with them for 20 years of his life.
  • MC and ML’s relationship—

MC only “casually took care” (quoted from MC’s own thoughts) of ML for 5 hours and defended him from 3 glasses of wine in his past life, and MC also saw him as a child while ML saw him as his main inspiration for working hard and someone he looked up to because of his support and talent, MC only accepted ML because he felt “guilty for not knowing” and leaving him? None of those are MC’s fault though? ML’s love was quite possessive and overbearing towards MC when he didn’t know his true identity and treated him as a double.

[collapse]

  • Rushed ending— the ending was really rushed and kind of tacky at the end, it felt like the author was just quickly piecing in the “We Remarried” variety show part and the reason why MC somehow rebirthed while lowering ML’s overbearing character.

I very rarely make reviews. But I just can't help with this one. I give the 3 stars to the translators for the wonderfyl translation. Thank you for the hardwork. But the story itself? Maybe I've been spoiled with regression novels with awesome face-slapping, but this one? This one, where the MC has the actual right to faceslap people left, right and center? It was just sickening. Yeah. I would say the whole plot just disgusted me. The way the side-characters reacted and how the storyline was handled it gave me goose bumps and not in a good way. I pushed through the reading because I was HOPING for a good closure, but nada. Nyet. Iye. Nope. It wasn't given at all. So here's my honest take under the spoiler tag.

Spoiler

So MC got reincarnated into the body of JZN. Og!JZN has been trampled on physically, mentally and emotionally by his biological family and their fake son, so I expected a nice revenge plot since MC was thankful for his reincarnation and wanted to pay back the dead Og!JZN. But no, it wasn't going there. Og!JZN almost died once and actually died by the start of the story so I was thinking there's the good storyline of the counter-attack. But no, author just had to make what happened to Og!JZN something to be passed over. Author made the situation into something light and can be dismissed just because of sentiments and the side-characters involved even had the audacity to blame MC for the come-uppance that is actually deserved. I'm like WTF?! Og!JZN was brutally beaten and thrown from the stairs, and then during the wedding he had his heart attack! Now just because the Grandfather was hospitalized everything is just suddenly "ok, lets stop the lawsuit."?! And the Granpa's butler had the effing nerve to ask if MC hates the Ji family?! If the original JZN was still alive yes he has the right to hate them!

And don't get me even started with the stand-in plot of the story! When I was reading those parts I was like 'eff that shit' go ahead and leave the MC! If MC wasn't reincarnated in JZN's body you people wouldn't have cared in the 1st place! It was just grating! I know MC accepted the contract and all but I can't help but think if this wan't a reincarnation story but a pure stand-in storyline JZN wouldn't have anyone at all and it made me feel so heartbroken. I can't help but think if MC wasn't Wen Che and he showed his True personality and the dream ends then everything would just be over.

And then at the end it is. It was all over. And it was heartbreaking. And I wished so badly that MC and JZN could have a different story than what the author wrote. ML didn't deserve his happy ending. I would have prefered this to be story between JZN and MC where MC became a mentor instead to JZN. And then JZN would have been happy in the end, MC stayed dead or reincarnated as actually a new life as a baby and ML in a ditch somewhere. I'll repeat a million times but JZN deserve happiness! The ending leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

[collapse]

The very 1st novel I would say I regretted ever reading and finishing at that.
