Chu Yueyi is a spirited and talented up-and-coming actress, but she’s always just short of hitting it big. On her agent’s advice, she finally decides to boost her popularity by appearing on a dating reality show and stirring up some buzz with a celebrity couple pairing!

Her partner is Shi Guanghua, a handsome and gifted musician. His only flaw? He’s terrible at communication and utterly unromantic – a reality show disaster waiting to happen.

Director: Yueyi, you’re a great actress. Help guide Guanghua – he’s new to the entertainment world.

Chu Yueyi: No problem, I’ve got this. I’m a pro carrying a newbie.

Faced with her cold, wooden co-star, Yueyi works overtime to set the mood and turn things around. Against all odds, she manages to make their on-screen romance go viral, turning herself and Guanghua into the internet’s favorite TV couple!

As the dating show wraps up, both of their careers reach new heights. But when it comes time to end their on-screen relationship, problems arise.

Shi Guanghua: So you reel me in, get bored, and now you’re planning to dump me?

After the show ends, when reporters ask if their relationship was real, the former on-screen lovebirds suddenly change their tune, giving completely different answers.

During the dating show, Chu Yueyi played her part perfectly while Shi Guanghua remained unmoved.

After the show, Chu Yueyi desperately tries to distance herself while Shi Guanghua goes all-in on their relationship.

First off, the thing I love about this novel is how in depth if tackles the entertainment industry. In most showbiz novel, the entertainment circle is just this messy circle with a lot of drama, and hidden sugar babies and sugar daddies. You got resources, then you get the role. And so on. But in this novel, it actually describes how complicated the entertainment industry is. The hidden rules and etiquette.

An example?

Well, I was fully expecting that the "dating variety show" in this novel would only be filled with sugar,... more>> and that it's the thing that pushes the progress of our MCs' romance, just like in the novel/manhua "Top Couple is a bit Sweet" where the reality show MCs' are in is just soooo real and sugary. I WAS WRONG. In fact, the more I read the more I realize how the show is the biggest obstacle in their romance.

How and why?

Perform. They need to perform. ML is NOT a celebrity, while FL is a workaholic celebrity. They have a VERYYYY different outlook and goals during the show. ML, as a non-celebrity, is unaware of the hidden rules of the circle, hence his "performance" in the show was never an act just to "perform" for the camera, it was his real geniune feelings. While FL, as a celebrity, has very clear bounderies about what is work and what is personal. And for her, the variety show is 'work'. In fact, she was so apprehensive about people seeing her "true self" because she always strived to have the perfect image.

Which means, on camera, the FL is very reluctant in showing her geniune self, always overthinking about what needs and need not to be said in the show. While ML, doesn't give a sh*t about the filming, he doesn't care if the directors don't get a good shot and would sometimes rebel by turning off microphone.

At first FL was frustrated about his attitude when it comes to 'work', thinking that he is being uncooperative and was giving the staff a hard time. But that's the thing, he wasn't a celebrity and was just doing what he genuinely wanted to do. But later on, FL realized that she doesn't want ML to change and she let him continue to be geniune because he is more adorable that way.

So yeahhh, I actually wanted them to badly get the variety show over with because it was a huge obstacle to their progress, really. But after the show, their relationship was so sweet.

I gave this a 4 stars because I actually find it a little annoying how people "bullies" the ML. Like, give him a break, the dude is having a hard time with his social skills. Plus, the author is, for some reason, obsessed in portraying FL to always have the "upperhand" by making her the "dominant" one. And I got no problem with that, only if her way of showing dominance is not by putting the ML down. Like, when ML, who isn't good ar arguing cuz he lacks social skills, would rarely have an advantage in an argument with FL (just some silly argument btw), FL would get bossy and boss around ML just to show her being the upperhand.

But all in all, it was a great read. I just hope that the author would lessen some detail because honestly, some chapters are unnecessary long. <<less

FL is super good in EQ but was stumped so bad when she interacted with the wooden ML.

ML plays straight ball in romance. He just keeps going foward in his pursuit, that the FL was finally dragged away by him.

I also like the plot with not so much drama. I was preparing mentally for a tragedy or angst in between, but lo and behold, they were so sugary that it got so sticky and sickly sweet~

This is also the first story where I find the extra is redundant and less exciting-- cos the main story is the best!

All in all, I very very much enjoyed reading this gem. Recommended to all! 🌈🍭

P.s. Translation was greatly done but it's still ongoing, so I MTL'ed the rest of the story~

P.p.s. No wonder the story is great-- I've read all the author's translated stories in NU and they are all precious~ <<less

I really enjoyed this story. I'm so happy it delivered on both the romantic and the comedic fronts but having seen who the author it, it's not surprising that the story is well-written. This author's other works include I Have the Aura of Overbearing President and The Actor and his Three and Half Years Old Sister which are some of the funniest web novels I've ever read. Like the former, this story also features an adorable main couple that you can't help to root for even though they're very different... more>> people.

Our FL is great. She's rational, pragmatic, excellent at socializing, adaptable, and serious about her work. I like seeing the gap between her in work mode where she's calm, considerate and kind, and her off duty, where she's more irritable, cheeky, sloppy and a bit of an Otaku (as an otome game player myself, I thought the allusions were apt). It's funny how the ML often compares her off duty self to a mischievous cat who likes to make trouble with him and then run away as if nothing happened.

The ML is also very likeable. Unlike the FL, he's bad at socializing and when it comes to love, very naive and pure. His sincere but awkward attempts to pursue the FL were adorable and hilarious.

Like another reviewer pointed out, this story made fantastic use of the dating show trope. I like how the dating show both facilitated and hindered their romantic development at different stages. Obviously, without the show they wouldn't have had a chance to get to know each other deeply but because of the nature of reality TV, they couldn't be their most authentic selves and neither could figure out if the other's actions was just for the camera. Additionally, their fans are awesome. Their academic analyses of each episode had me dying and I appreciated how positive and respectful they were.

Overall, a lovely read! <<less

So Cute!!!!

The dynamic of the couple was so cute and funny, and how they got together was sweet, I felt like I was one of their CP supporters HAAH

This was one of the more well-done uses of the "Dating show" tropes in Chinese novels. It was more realistic in approach and explained the reality of most couples who go on these shows. While it is usually strictly business and nothing more, the perseverance and willingness to be upfront, vulnerable, and giving were what made our FL and ML reach real... more>> love.

I loved how realistic yet cute it was when the FL asserted her own feelings leading to a healthy relationship! She has high EQ but uses that to her advantage to not involve real feelings on her part, and prefers to keep to herself on the inside. While initially preferring to cautiously go with the flow of the relationship, ML just bulldozed ahead with his honest feelings which ultimately moved her.

Overall, this was a good read and would recommend to those who love that realistic yet loving romances! <<less

Overall, it was a fun read. My only issue was the running gag about the ML wearing a skirt. Like I get it, this story promotes feminism, but there was no need to make the ML seem like a puppy begging for affection. There was no need to put the ML down just to make the FL seem stronger and more powerful. I feel that the author wanted to portray feminism and women empowerment, but has successfully portrayed a story about a dominatrix getting her sub instead.

So far, super adorable! The translation is pleasant to read and really sets the plot for readers to understand the feelings of both main leads. FL seems very career driven and adorable - I can’t wait for ML to slowly take her aback with his one sentence hit lines ^^ ML also sounds like a character in which I can’t wait for FL to explore - looking like he liked her way before the variety show (super cute he’s so far giving me Lovely Runner Sunjae vibes)

So keen to... more>> finish this off, patiently waiting for upcoming updates! If there are new chapters released I’ll probably MTL the rest and happily read final translations here 🤣 Thank you for uploading a gem! <<less

I was a but angry at the FL because I thought she's being to aggressive and I think I very much dislike her jokes (bout dressing him 👗)

Also my imagination 😐 I don't know why for the first part of the story I've been imagining them as an old Korean rich couple from kdramas
