Su Mingxiu was targeted by a strange “Tempering System.” The system firmly believed that the protagonist must endure many hardships to grow, and she was the touchstone to temper the protagonist’s growth—

It wanted Su Mingxiu to give the protagonist love and then cruelly betray her.

First World:

System: “You are extremely controlling, the strictest agent in the entertainment industry. Unfortunately, you have a strange temper. You create superstars and then personally bring them down. The protagonist is the most brilliant one under your hand. You need to elevate her to the highest point and then make her fall.”

Su Mingxiu immediately sent the protagonist on a space trip around the Earth before returning her.

System: “?”

Second World:

System: “You once loved someone. You’ve found countless substitutes who resemble her. The protagonist was picked up by you and raised in your sect since childhood. She is the most similar to your loved one. When she reaches adulthood, you will take her golden core to reshape your loved one’s bones and flesh.”

So, years later, Su Mingxiu took out the protagonist’s golden core and helped her cultivate a Nascent Soul outside her body.

System: “???”

The Tempering System wanted the protagonist to become the most powerful being in the world, so she must be ruthless, desireless, and without any weaknesses.

It succeeded.

But looking at the woman who tore through the void and chased Su Mingxiu to her world, it became a little uncertain.

At that time, Su Mingxiu’s fingertips were resting on the other party’s necklace. With a gentle hook, the other party approached, her voice intimate and dangerous: “Are you trying to abandon me again?”

The woman’s eyes were filled with obsession and possessiveness, and her gaze towards Su Mingxiu was full of greed.

— Weakness? No, Su Mingxiu was her obsession, an existence that she would drag down with her even if she fell into hell.

The first and last arc was the best sh*t I've ever laid my eyes on, the middle was very sweet to read, like there was sugar in my mouth the whole time like a single dog. The author does great writing on the sweetness between the protagonists, and how in each world, they love each other just as intensely as the next.

This book is yearning in the truest sense, and the kind of love that transcends time and space. I love the protagonists, and I hope that if these worlds... more>> were real, they would achieve the eternal happiness that they want <<less

10/10 (Top tier)

A strong quick transmigration primarily focused on emotional entanglements. Arcs are varied, with a major contributing factor being good variation on the 'starting conditions' of each world (e.g. The state of FL memories, restrictions placed on the FL, etc.) While the primary focus is on emotion, main plots in each arc are often engaging and well paced. While the ending feels a little bit abrupt, the overarching plotline pays off quite well and is well integrated with the hints and concepts introduced during the various arcs.

Spoiler

What ties together the overarching package and successfully provides a sense of progression throughout the various arcs, keeps each arc engaging in some way, and prevents arcs from feeling repetitive are the varied 'system'-level conditions in each world. The amount of memories kept, the restrictions placed on her, even the PoV might shift from world to world, and when combined with the different dynamics of the roles the FLs play in each world, it keeps the interactions between the two fresh. These concepts also shift relatively often mid-arc compared to most quick transmigration, which can lead to some very good moments. A standout example of this is how, in the emperor historical world, Su Mingxiu ultimately realizes that the conditions placed on her caused her to regress compared to the first arc, trying to decide for the 'protagonist' on loving vs losing instead of giving her the choice.

While emotional entanglements are the primary thrust giving the plot life, the overarching plot involving Su Mingxiu's missing memories of her original world and the individual arc plots are still strong enough to pick up the slack when needed. The emotional plot itself is engaging, with a strong interplay between Su Mingxiu's restrained love capable of turning explosive at a moment's notice and the 'protagonist''s love, often sinking into self-deprecation, possessiveness, and even brief outbursts of hate. The varied plots also help a lot with this, exposing different facets of Su Mingxiu's love and various different approaches to the 'protagonist', as well as the 'protagonist''s different starting points resulting in different paths to acknowledging her love. When the emotional plot steps back or falters for a bit, however, usually the individual arc plots or the mystery or conflict with the system steps into gear, maintaining interest.

The overarching plot concludes with an entire arc of its own, and it's done well. While there are some issues, the arc provides a nice bow on top of the story and integrates itself very well in some ways. Parts of the finale felt a little too self-contained, and could've been teased a little bit more in the arcs to match with the well-integrated or slowly unveiled majority of the arc. For example, the male lead that the Heavenly Dao originally intended Su Mingxiu to be entangled with didn't have any prior hints, and especially the moment where Su Mingxiu remembered that she died because she was ambushed by him in her original life seemed a bit abrupt. The 'protagonist' also could've done with feeling a little bit more integrated with her selves in the world; while most parts of her character felt like they had sprouted into something in the various arcs, it would've been nice to see a bit more hint of the obsessive, desperate love that she showed in the various arcs in her original self. The Heavenly Dao and male lead also ended up dying a bit too smoothly and quickly for the pacing that the finale seemed to be working with prior to the climax.

However, the finale was engaging both from the perspective of an individual arc and as a final reflection. The strengths of the various arcs mentioned are still present in the finale, and some, like the nature of Su Mingxiu's love for the 'protagonist' and the mysteries surrounding the 'system', establish themselves even more strongly as the finale wraps up the plot threads established over all the various worlds. The arcs are also excellently integrated, with the reveal of the various original moments and love from the 'protagonist' to Su Mingxiu that grew into the plots of the arcs acting as an excellent defining moment for the finale.

MC is a top, FL is a bottom. Same FL through the worlds, same face, same soul.

First arc is the saddest, MC dies early and leaves the FL alone for many years, but it gets better with the next worlds. Or maybe you get used to it. It's like a rollercoaster, the happier the previous world, the sadder the next, and vice versa, going up and down. Sometimes they get a hundred years of happiness, other times just a handful of seasons. They always start off with a less than... more>> ideal relationship, but that more than gets resolved by the end. Honestly can't say whether MC or FL falls first.

You could say that the MC and the system are each other's greatest enemies. Each world, the MC finds loopholes in the system's rules, not wanting to be the heartless s*umbag of the original. But because she always ends up dying before the FL, she asks the FL this each time: "would you rather have ‘never had’ or ‘once had’?"

The system is also unique; because of this host who never obeys, it comes up with increasingly absurd ways to trick her into listening, from erasing the MC's memories to pretending to be a different system entirely. So, this novel won't just be a repeat of the same premise. It's always in a different setting with a different controlling degree by the system, sometimes issuing daily mandatory tasks with punishments, other times disappearing entirely. The MC even extracts the system from her head and tortures it in a couple worlds.

Definitely a deeper plot line happening underneath all the worlds. The FL clearly has a subtler connection to the MC, which is why her soul is the same, world after world. Can't wait to find out. 5/5. <<less

Taking the time to reread this vacation, and this first arc did not fail to impress. I could have cried T^T It's so subtle and it's quite intrapersonal in nature. The little prince and his only rose is the most fittingly beautiful allegory for the introductory world, really.

MC and FL hit that particular blend of enemies and lovers while being master and disciple that I go insane about haha

Excited to read the next arc!!
