Xu Mo transmigrated into a book, thinking that if he followed the plot, the dog system would send him back to his original world. In the end, he realized he had overthought things.

[Hey, why is Shen Manni, the female lead, acting strange? Shouldn’t she be fawning over the male lead at this point?]

[Zhou Qiaoqiao, are you sick? Weren’t you supposed to break off your engagement today?]

[Damn it! An Youyi, please do your job as an undercover agent and sell my information to the protagonist, you idiot!]

At this moment, Xu Mo himself didn’t know that these female leads had already heard his inner thoughts.

Then they decided not to play by the rules.

Xu Mo: Please respect my profession as the big villain!

Been a while since I regretted reading something so much, lol. I'm always disappointed with this "overhearing thoughts" trope. The core concept is great with lots of potential, but all of these authors just keep on plagiarising each other, the exact same tropes over and over again.

Aside from that, the worst part about this novel is that it's all about just how idiotic and utterly incompetent the MC is. Basically, he wants to progress the plot because he wants to go back home, but because the heroines can hear his... more>> thoughts they keep playing him and god forbid he wises up and figures it out despite the heroines repeating what he says in his mind word for word.

Imagine this, you're glaring at your arch nemesis' back. You hate them so much much that you just look at them and think to yourself "f*cking b*tch, " and then said bit*h turns around and glares at you. I don't know about you, but my first instinct would be to think they can read my mind. I would dismiss the thought eventually because there's no such thing as mind-reading, but that doesn't apply to a fantasy world. Not for this MC, though, he's just that ret*rded. Which is kinda funny because the system keeps giving him intelligence buffs, but he keeps getting dumber.

I wish that was all, though. The "romance" is forced. The heroines just fall in love with him literally out of nowhere, completely unprompted all because they know he's pretending. Don't waste your time with this. <<less

The problem with these novels is their sh*t troupe of having a supposed "protagonist" behaving so widely different from their supposed archetype, you know; the good guy, Mr. Nice. But in so many of these "I can hear your inner voice" stories or "I'm a villain blah blah blah" troupes, the supposed hero is such an a**hole. Normally in xianxia/modern stories everyone is kind of an as*hole already, cuz in China its a eat or be eaten mentality (at least as far as most of their stories' themes goes). So... more>> creating a hero to be a good guy isn't that hard, most xianxia stories does that well. But here we have a guy who screws over another guy's family cuz what, for p**sy? Yea I totally believe you're the good guy. Can we actually have a story where the supposed hero is actually a hero and not a character who clearly is the actual villain archetype they keep trying to make as their protag for their story. <<less

It is as standard as can be... Actually it's a hodge podge copy paste from different works of "hearing inner thoughts". I have encountered a number of the same theme years ago and all the scenario is 1:1 match.

I regret reading this.

If you have yet to read something of this theme, the maybe you'd be entertained for a bit before it gets stale to you. Otherwise stay away from this if you have seen quite a few of the same type of story.

Was fun for a few hundred chapters, especially the part where the OG protagonist swallowed goddamn bubblegum and got constipated 😂

Then I reach the part where

the 1st heroine introduced is drugged and the MC is trying to calm her down when he finally sorts of breaks down threatens the system that he'll kill the OG protagonist if it couldn't help him. Between the handling of a woman in a very precarious situation, the breaking down, and the system shenanigans,

it turned me off from the comedic aspect of it.

Especially as after all that,

the heroine turns crazy/yandere.

The braindeadness was funny until I sympathized with how annoying the tropes were. <<less

Those kind of power fantasy novels can be fun but this one most certainly isn't.

The MC does absolutely nothing. He has no ambition or agency.

All he does is spend every f*cking chapter whining about how people don't follow the plot.

He doesn't really do anything about it mind he just whines.

Every chapter.

If you're looking for plot, certainly this isn't you cup of tea but for comedy n laid-back life. This is the thing.

Just like any hearing/exposed thoughts genre. It stand on misunderstanding and side character making use of the MC knowledge.

I regret reading this piece of garbage. You should do yourself a favor and go read other novels with similar genre. It's no wonder this got drop or rushed. For now, it's strengths;

    • Slice of life is pretty good imo
    • No world hopping
    • Only one "MC", the Dragon King
That's about it. Anything else is negative imo but if you like a main pairing with harem on the side it might be a plus for you.

Now for the bad;

    • MC is doormat. No joke, he is basically a beta male jap MC without his system's various "upgrades".
    • Plot does not move because of the slice of life aspects.
    • Having a favorite female MC in a harem genre is bad imo.
    • Too much feet fetish in the early parts of the story.
And the bad with spoilers.

Spoiler

MC or rather the author is completely masochistic which reflects on the story. MC does literally nothing while the harem just falls in love with him because they can hear his thoughts or he did something during his childhood. The heroines are the ones that move their relationship with MC forward, oh wait they also don't. Only one heroine is allowed. The final boss of the original novel, a female villainess and also the main heroine. They also marry at around 350 chapter-ish mark while the other harem members just flounder around. She basically has so much screen time it's not even funny. Other characters like the police officer, female hacker and college girl gets so little screen time than her COMBINED. Hell, if you combine the screen time of the other heroines it might not even be equal to the main girl. It's probably why the author made another novel with MC and her alone. Also probably bombed since he keeps asking people to go read it in the translated author notes.

Normally, I don't care about those things. Normally, said character would be important to the overall arc. But no, she does not even help the MC against the Dragon King (Novel MC), not one bit. She just made money and secured her place as wife even knowing MC wants to die. The main girl is so far ahead that she was already doing R18 stuff with MC while the other heroines were STILL in the process of approaching the MC.

So what does that effect in the story? Nothing much other than the harem infighting that is suppose to be common in this type of story. Nothing of the sort happens since the main girl gets most of the screen time. And if it does happen, it's pretty short aside. It did start picking up near 250+ chapter but by then the main girl was already so far ahead. The power imbalance is also no joke, since she is the final boss of the original story, every other heroine is dumb compared to her it seems. The only other heroine, the dragon queen, that could have contested her easily due to having superior combat abilities easily became her lackey it's not even funny. The original novel's main heroine was also sidelined pretty hard and has no memorable traits aside from her being the cold queen archetype.

Probably the most damaging of all is that MC ONLY starts doing sh*t at the 300 chapter markish. Aside from that, he basically just meanders around, only moving when there is an event, which is so few the slice of life takes priority. The slice of life is good for turning off your brain but that is all this novel offers. The story basically doesn't move. By the time the good sh*t happens it's already too late.

[collapse]

Overall bad novel, don't read or read it at around 200+ ish chapter then drop.

Side note

Spoiler

Novel probably stopped being popular when MC and main girl got married imo. What's the point of the harem infighting? After all, every other girl is already a loser that is just a side chick/little wife/concubine compared to the main wife. Author even stated that he doesn't want to add more harem members but added like 3 more. The main plot also started going fast after a few chapter following the marriage. What a waste.

[collapse]

tl;dr

Spoiler

Nice addition to the hearing inner voice genre, ruined by too much slice of life and slow moving plot. Author gave everything to his favorite heroine which killed of any character development for the other girls and probably killed of the novel as well imo.
