First off the darkstar translation site is horrible, especially for phone as there are a bunch of ads and redirects, and the site is really slow.

Onto the review. I started reading this novel thinking it would be about how a guy comes back in time and let's go off all the people who ab*sed, neglected and didn't appreciate him whilst cultivating and leaving them all behind, this is not that. The MC keeps having moments where he will say what you did has broken off our relationship and I... more>> won't care about you anymore and them cares about what they do or say in the very next chapter, it happens constantly especially with his childhood friend. To give an example a couple of chapters ago she threatened to destroy a pendant that his deceased grandpa gave him to give to his future love interest which he did, so she threatens to break it so he would give her a pill and he says "are relationship is over" yada yada yada for like the fifth time, anyway on the chapter I am on the antagonist pulls out this mirror to speak to the MC childhood friend and the MC gets furious about it, bear in mind the novel constantly talks about how whenever he gave her something that she would give it to the antogo ist so this isn't a surprise or out of character for her and he is supposed to have cut off his feelings for her.

It's super frustrating and not worth it. <<less

The plot start was good, but excessive repeat of same elements go get word counts and content, same monologue over and over, giving too much focus on childish revenge plot, and the lack of obvious imagination brings the story down.

Also, the schedule of the storyline is a mess....

Well, I guess it's to be expected when the MC is named 'Xiao'.

I dropped it because it's been a waste of time.

All the bad tropes of a face slapping novel with none of the guilty pleasure.

This is your standard return to the past to enact retribution on those who wronged him type of novel. However it's handled extremely badly.

The MC is a limp wristed waste of a person who spends most of his time monologuing about how horrible the other characters treated him in his last life and how they are still horrendous hypocrites. However when the time comes to actually do something about it, to actually change the how a... more>> previous interaction went, he either doesn't do anything or does it in a way that is very unsatisfying.

To give an example there is a section where the protagonist finds the girlfriend from his past life that betrayed him previously for the antagonist has broken into his home to steal his stuff to give to the antagonist. He rightfully says she is no longer welcome there, she says to give him some precious medicine she was unable to find while ransacking the place and threatens him with an important keepsake he previous gave her. Instead of just taking back his keepsake from the weaker party he folds like a wet noodle, gives her the medicine and grumbles about that being the end of their entanglement (it's not).

Stuff like that happens all the time. And after every event like this the antagonist whines like a bit*h about the MC and everyone around them believes the antagonist even though you'd have to be brain-dead to believe him.

And that's the other issue. Everyone in this story is s*upid. Like, not normal cultivator novel brick for brains. But stupid s*upid. They believe the most ridiculous lies told by the antagonist even when evidence to the contrary is directly staring them in the face. If it's possible to misinterpret a situation in a way that is disadvantages to the MC they will do so, not matter how convolute. And the MC just refuses to clarify or set up the situations he knows are coming to expose the antagonist.

We're 118 chapter into the other characters constantly treating the MC like sh*t and hardly any cathartic revenge has taken place. The MC won't just leave or kill the problem even though there have been plenty of opportunities to do so and he is stronger than virtually everyone else introduced already.

Unsatisfying junk food novel. <<less

The second-life MC resolves to care only for himself and not give a damn about the sect anymore.. EXCEEEEEPPPPTT he still gets angry at the same s*upid people that he vowed not to care about anymore over the same incidents he already knew would happen. There are too many of these novels that fail to deliver on their premise.

Alright, it's just some junk food type of novel. You only want to read this when there is nothing more or when you remember trying to read this before and forgot how you drop this.

There many cons in here, no pro in term of story.

... more>> 1. Very huge amount of unnecessary filler that only has random NPC tr*sh talk him, with MC done nothing to it.

2. MC wanted no more with them, the so called random NPC that once he cared, yet he can't even do a slap to their face. Such a downright non likeable MC

3. MC character is wishy washy, not a single boldness exist when facing the so called revenge character other than the main villain.

Alright, the story promise to deliver how a guy, The MC will see how the downfall of the so called those that he cared before yet abandon him like an used toy cause there is a new toy. That what interested me at first.

Yet, the story didn't deliver that. None at all, only a frustrating monologue of MC. For example, there is a junior sister that he once loved, yet she only side with his enemy, she only tr*sh talk to him every single time. Yet what MC does? Only listening till the end and told SCRAM. Well that okay if it was once or twice. But that happening every single time, and with every single character that antagonist him. BAH, why won't you just SLAP THEM IN THE FACE LITERALLY. HOW FRUSTATING!!! <<less

I enjoy a good revenge story and the setup for this one starts off pretty good... But the implementation is poor.

Problem number 1: Bad repetitive writing. Constantly goes over the literal same points (I will finally have nothing to do with Jiang Ting anymore. Ten chapters later: I will finally have nothing to do with Jiang Ting anymore). It's your standard author-needs-to-reach-3k-words so they pack in a bit of filler to flesh out the chapter.

Problem number 2: Author drags out the plot. It's obvious that the story will end too... more>> quickly if MC kills off the antagonist and obviously he can't do it in the middle of the sect... But there's definitely a few points where he really passed up the opportunity to do so in favour of tormenting his enemy more.

Problem number 3: Both the MC and the antagonist are simultaneously competent and incompetent. MC was a complete and total simp and a fool in his past life, which is fine as part of the setup, but as the story progresses you see more and more just how many times he was played by the antagonist that makes him look absolutely idiotic. And now that the tables have flipped where's the cleverness in the antagonist who produced all these schemes? How is he getting tripped up so easily now?

Problem number 4: Author drags out the plot. I'm waiting for the payoff where either the MC eliminates the antagonist or at least succeeds in his first major goal (which is to leave the sect).

Overall, the story is just too stretched out - the 120ish chapters I've read so far feel like they should have been compressed into 40 chapters or so. And regarding the antagonist, there's another Xianxia that did it better, where the antagonist was heaven's favoured son which explains why MC couldn't get rid of him directly and even explained to some degree how people were easily swayed to his side.

I'm still going to continue to read this for a bit but it's the type of story I'd never pick up again the moment I stop reading it. <<less

I've read many novels and experienced a wide range of emotions through the words of different authors, but this book made me rediscover one in particular: frustration. I have never felt so frustrated while reading a novel. The more I read, the stronger my urge to destroy everything became.

At first, the story was engaging, and I grew attached to it. But as it progressed, I realized how bland and senseless the characters were. I usually avoid calling characters "s*upid, " unlike some critics, but in this case, they truly are.... more>> The entire narrative revolves around just two opposing forces: the MC and Qin Fei (the main antagonist).

The MC is incredibly frustrating, the antagonist is both frustrating and ridiculous—constantly playing the pity card in every interaction—and the MC’s family is just as infuriating. The only characters who aren’t frustrating are the MC’s so-called “friends, ” but that’s only because they barely exist in the story—after two or three lines, they’re forgotten.

But above all, Jiang Ting. Every time she appears, I can’t help but huff in annoyance. The author seems determined to make the entire world irrationally hostile toward the MC for no real reason.

The novel is also filled with unnecessary filler, and the author keeps recycling the same thought pattern for the MC in every interaction: "Am I being unreasonable? Well, you're even more unreasonable than me." This kind of frustrating dynamic repeats in every arc, making the MC feel completely useless. <<less

The story is a betrayal regression story where the MC knows what is going to happen and is overcoming adversity.

The plot and characters are one dimensional. Every character has their brains turned off and mindlessly follows the false Protagonist while accusing the MC of everything. Not a single character isn't terrible.

The MC could end the "play" whenever he wants but follows along with a similar plot in order to "make the false Protagonist experience despair in the end".

It's not a strong story in plot / characters / setting, but if... more>> you like this type of story then it's a pretty decent one.

Edit: my original review was through chapter 40, but now that I've read further it's become unbearable. The MC constantly talks about how he's abandoning his family/junior sister/sect due to their betrayal/hypocrisy but then any time something happens he puts himself on the frontline saying "well we were raised together afterall". He's reached the level where he can slap around his sect master but he throws himself into danger for the sect he supposedly is done with and gets caught by a low level demon subordinate. The story completely threw away any consistency or logic at this point. The story isn't worth reading at all. <<less

To put it harshly: I have never seen such halfwit pushover for a main character.

The main guy, Xiao Yang. He's a righteous simp who died tragically, betrayed by literally everyone he cared about by Qin Fei, the demon spy/two faced twink who manipulated everyone to become his enemy. Then he gets a second chance by going back in time.

Armed with knowledge of future events, you thought Xiao Yang is gonna be that super badass who will rise on top of everyone and forge his destiny? Let me stop you right there. As of c179, Xiao Yang has:

  • A few moments of glory
  • Got some good powerups
  • Turned his archenemy to a eunuch.
  • Slapped his junior sister

He still gets betrayed, dragged around, treated like a pushover by his: (1) family who is the literal embodiment of narcissistic, toxic parasites who treat their own kin like tr*sh while expecting benefits, (2) his narcissistic junior sister, who is like the carbon copy of his family, berating and treating him like tr*sh while expecting him to be her simp as he spreads her legs (metaphorically) for Qin Fei, and her (3) dad, the sect master who's pretty much a two faced hypocrite, siding with whoever gives him the most benefit, which is also the definition of a parasite. This has been the flow: perpetual suffering with an occasional showcase of underwhelming badassery.

Update: Oh, thank God! Qin Fei, while not dead, gets fully exposed at chapter 225 to the whole world! And in the most hilarious fashion to boot! Oh man, it feels like a f*cking climax, holy shit.

I'm entertained by the plot but the writing style is the worst. No, really. I've read hundred of fanics, WN, LN, and professional books by now, but even the worst CN web novel I remember (Ze Tian Ji), this takes the cake of infuriating writing style. The author is going repeat info's... more>> at you even a hundred chapters in. No, really, despite Xiao Yang literally telling you he's done with his junior sister, he's still going to tell you just how done he is with her lmao.

The plot isn't anything remarkable either. Just your standard face slapping, but admittedly, I'm entertained.

I just speed read through this, skipping the repetitive paragraphs. I just want to see the villain get his comeuppance. <<less

I think this MC might be the dumbest MC I've ever seen in one of these novels. He gets a second shot, knows all the villains tricks. Knows everything he's going to do, and proceeds to not do a single intelligent thing with any of that information. Everything good that happens seems to happen around him, not because of his actual choices. The worst part, around ch 19 (light spoilers but it's hundreds of chapters long so:)

The villain actually just breaks into his home, steals all his cultivation items, destroys his stuff, and is wearing his clothes. He is so angry he says he wants to mu*der someone. So... A. So much for knowing all the villains moves like he claimed. He still got got because he just... I don't know... assumed the villain wasn't behind this particular event in his previous life? and B. He doesn't do anything. MC has no brains, no balls, nothing. He has everything taken from him by villain in his previous life, and his plan this life? I'm just going to not care about any of those things. It doesn't even feel like a revenge novel because they're setting up a "the best revenge is to live well" plot, while still having MC still be the villain's b*tch. Like, at the point I'm at, MC has said he's no longer going to be played by the villain about 8 times, only to then play right into the villains hands out of anger.

I liked the beginning and it started well, but when the holy virg*n appeared and forced the MC to have a child, it was literally annoying and I almost threw the book away. But then, when this woman got pregnant and the leader of a huge sect took her away, I threw it away. It was boring that the MC couldn't get stronger because he was always fighting someone a thousand times stronger than him, and all he could do was run away.
