After Being Betrayed, The Immortal Master Ran Away With The Demon Venerable

As Mingguang Sect’s esteemed Immortal Master, Yi Ning had never experienced much heartbreak and suffering. He had always expected his life to be smooth-sailing, and was only waiting to ascend before marrying his disciple with whom he shared mutual affection.

However, he had never expected that on a rainy night, his disciple brought back a childhood friend.

They were close and intimate, to the point… of sharing a bed.

Standing before the bed where they were entwined, Yi Ning’s heart was as cold as sunken ice. He had wanted to end it all cleanly and straightforwardly, yet had never expected that his disciple not only wanted his childhood friend, but wanted his Shizun too.

His disciple shattered his spiritual core and laid down a hex, throwing him into the main hall to await nightfall to consummate their relationship.

Just as he had fallen into despair and wanted to end his life, he unexpectedly discovered a strange book. The book detailed his life, and the him it described, from beginning to end, was nothing more than a tool used to satisfy his disciple’s desire to conquer, lowly and wretched as a cultivation furnace.

Yi Ning’s head spun, and his heart gave birth to a strong hatred. He dragged his wrecked body to the back of the mountain and released the Demon Venerable Yan Xuan, who he had personally sealed nine years ago.

In return for undoing the seal, Yan Xuan would aid him in escaping.

After the man heard the reason why, he leaned against the wall and smiled with a hint of mockery. Yi Ning had thought he was going to ridicule him for having deserved it, being betrayed by an ingrate who bit the hand that fed him.

Yet, what he never expected was for Yan Xuan to reach out and tug him into his embrace, and the words that left his mouth were instead:

“You fool, I’ll help you take revenge.”

After this, he killed all those who wronged him, and cradled him close to his heart.

He wants to shatter your cultivation and mangle your limbs, to turn you into a bird in a cage, free for him to humiliate.

Yet, with this lowly and dirty heart of mine, I want to pull you from the swamp and cut down the heavens for you.

I don't know what rating I should give here. Even after I read the synopsis, I found some oddities. Out of curiosity, I quickly read up to chapter 30. As expected, this is the most s*upid novel I've read this month. Congratulations!

Spoiler

An immortal master, our MC, with a very high cultivation base, was poisoned by an ordinary mortal without spiritual root! Even later his spiritual root was dug up by his own disciple, who also has a lower cultivation base than him! With his cultivation, he could ascend anytime, but he was poisoned by a weak mortal instead!

Then he found out what kind of poison it was. He was poisoned after making a contact with the lantern given by that scum disciple and that mortal. Then here is the odd thing. It was a demonic poison that was able to corrode and paralyze even an immortal master, yet that MORTAL "sprinkle" it into a lantern, by himself! And he was alright (???) Wow! Truly magical...

Next the immortal master asked a demonic cultivator for help to take him away. The demonic cultivator is very powerful, it should be noted here. I guess he has similar cultivation base with our MC. But somehow, he just took the MC away. That bastard disciple was clearly in front of him and couldn't make any moves! But that demonic cultivator just passed him by! He talked so much, no actions, and then just... fly away while holding our MC...

At that time he kicked that scumbag apprentice's mortal lover (who poisoned our MC) until he vomited blood. Just vomited blood! With how high his cultivation base was, his kick only caused a mortal to vomit blood...

[collapse]

orz

I was thinking if that makes sense??? Then I felt s*upid that I thought whether it made sense or not...

I will not continue reading. For other readers, there is no need to use my review as a reference. You are free to choose whether you want to read or not. Everyone has their own opinions and preferences.

*********

Hmm I came back here by accident. I forgot the title of this story, I thought I'd never read it, but apparently I've written a review before...

About my previous review here, in my opinion, Everyone has the freedom to express likes or dislikes, has their own preferences.

Basically, I read almost all genres provided by this site. I emphasize: almost. But it just so happened that what I read the most, even though I didn't write a review or put it in the library, is xianxia genre. It was the first genre I ever read. And the review I wrote here was heavily influenced by plots found in other xianxia novels I read in the past.

Yet why my reaction about this novel was so hard? As I said, because my logic is used to the customs presented by other novels. Actually it's not that I can't accept new concepts. I can, but still I prefer to read something that can be accepted by my reasoning.

Therefore, as I think that perhaps I can't be objective so I won't give a rating, no matter how weird I feel about the storyline. And I write that other readers don't need to use my review as a reference, and I also emphasize: each individual has their own preferences.

The review I wrote here is what I truly feel. Everything here doesn't fit into my logic, so I leave it. Not for other reasons.

At the other hand, I realized, this is just a fiction, anything can happen, it's up to the author's will...

That's why I wrote: I feel s*upid because I was wondering if everything here makes sense 😑

So for other readers, don't be afraid to read this story. My suggestion is : don't use logic here. Just enjoy the story. Read with heart not with our brain.

I think, the more questions we have, the more we'll doubt life...

Because with heart... everything is possible and life... is full of miracles.

Spoiler

Then someone said that MC got 'cursed' because at that time he was unaware, he was in the wrong state of mind.

... Okay

Thus, it is worth to ask here, with a dao heart so easily swayed, wasn't it a miracle that MC was able to overcome every heaven tribulation to reach his current cultivation level? I bet he must be dead so many times already... 😑

I became curious, what dao does MC cultivate?
Great dao of masochism? Great dao of dog blood drama?

Then I won't be surprised that he is so powerful~

Regarding the curse... (I truly doubt myself here...)

Needless to say, if even a Venerable master couldn't avoid it, then what would happen to all cultivators at lower levels? I can't imagine it...

Righteous cultivators don't need to exist anymore, let the entire world be ruled by demonic cultivators... 🙄

The end of the story. Happy ending.

Yes, the more I think, the more confusions. So, it's better to read with the heart, to avoid headaches...

💖💖💖

I myself like to read without paying attention to ratings. All depends on how I felt when or after I finished reading the novels.

Then, am I going to edit the previous review that a lot of people have been raving about? The answer is no. And I'm not going to argue right or wrong here. As I said earlier: it all depends on individual preferences... 🙄 <<less

I read the first review and got curious. How bad can the story be? Well... If the "s*upid" part of the story is what was referenced in the previous reviewer's spoiler, I think it may be an issue of misinterpretation of the raw text 0r bad MTL ??? I will try to address it points the first review mentioned if anyone is unsure and wants to give the story a try:

Spoiler
    • The disciple's childhood lover is the one that poisons the MC. Even though he is mortal, the MC suspects him of cooperating with demon cultivators because the poison is from a demon race. Therefore, he did not poison the MC "by himself". This is clear during the first 10 chapters. (Not sure if it poison or a hex because the author says both xia du and zhou du)
    • When MC says he was poisoned by the mortal lover, people think how could a poor, weak mortal poison a cultivator? MC's response is: "You believe that mortals cannot poison others?" because in the past his disciple's entire family was poisoned--by mortals. So this is not a plot hole. Mortals being able to poison people is something that is possible, especially with the help of cultivator.
    • The reason the ML was "somehow" able to get the MC away from the disciple was because the ML is not just a demon cultivator, but the Demon Lord. The MC is strong, but the ML became a Demon Lord at 15. He's a genius. ML did not have his weapon at first so he only stopped the disciple's strike and delayed him so they could escape for the first time.
    • The Mortal didn't die from being kicked because the ML wasn't trying to kill him with said kick. He wanted to hurt him first. The ML was basically playing around with his food first before attempting to kill him.
[collapse]

Again, I think the first review might had unfortunately read a really bad MTL. My mandarin level is basic so I had to rely on sites like Baidu to figure out xianxia related vocabulary. Maybe I also interpreted some things wrong. If you can MTL accurately and/or know a decent amount of Mandarin, you might be okay. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it. Some of the MTL is straight up wrong and contradicts the plot or it eats up the sentences and leaves out important paragraphs.

All that being said, I also have no idea what to rate this story.

The relationship between the MC and ML go back in forth between being exciting and being frustrating. I hate how the MC sees how the ML might care for him and then later think the ML hates him and wants him dead. Like huh??? Didn't we already establish that this was not the case???? Multiple times????? The MC also acknowledges that he doesn't really know what kind of person the ML is, but continues to make a lot of assumptions about the ML.

ML is kind of a tsundere I guess, but I thought he was cute. The only problem is that the MC assumes that when the ML is anger he wants to kill him despite never actually harming him. The ML teases and flirts with him more than anything. The MC is smart but also kind of dumb. There's so much s*xual tension in the air you could choke on it. You'll end rolling your eyes, saying, "Just effin kiss already." I only made it this far because I kept telling myself that the MC was being purposely dense because he was betrayed by his disciple.

If you don't like this kind of push and pull, he can't possibly like me even though everything he says and does tells me he's definitely attracted to me type of romance, I do not recommend this story lol

I don't like xianxia stories but I think the plot is okay, but I would wait for official translations to judge because some parts did confuse me. It started off strong imo but felt boring around chapter 30. Right now I'll give the story a tentative 3/5

MTLed the book after chrysanthemum’s last update, I’d suggest wait till translation is finished. The book is amazing, give it a chance. The book is fluff with some knives but it feels so refreshing when the MC and ML open up to each other. The characters feel 3d, I wouldn’t say the best book but definitely not waste of time.

Loved the story, plot, the side characters. Just amazing. Very heartwarming love story. It may get super sad sometimes but remember its a HE HE HE. And the ending was just perfect. There is no plot holes or anything. It is a world building genre so every author has their own rules so u can’t really apply something you learnt in one book about immortals and devils and apply to this book too. For example a review above complained about how can a powerful immoral be so careless and fall... more>> for their disciple’s trap, well u gotta understand that his guards were low when he was poisoned when he gets his core dug out and later on in the story u get a better explanation of how he gets poisoned. I don’t think the book has any logical issue or any plot holes. Some people enjoy books like lord seventh that barely has any romance and some people would prefer to like love stories like this one. It really depends on what kind of book u wanna read, other wise the book is great, highly recommend. <<less

Are you looking for LIGHT READ? NOT HEAVY PLOT? RECOMMEND! RECOMMEND! RECOMMEND!

Personally I thought the novel was lovely, the story is as the title say. Focuses more on MC’s life and how he learns to love again after being betrayed. There is wuxia/mystery elements to it but it revolves around MC’s problems. Its not the typical book of saving the world, its mostly personal revenge though there are times MC is doing service to save people. The main focus is how the MC and ML build up their relationship. The... more>> antagonists are complete sociopath. If you love getting fed dog food and a lot of face slapping then this is for you. The ML is an ABSOLUTE green flag. Reminded me of Huachang, no red flag whatsoever.

I mtled the book from 3 sources to better understand whats going on on certain parts of the book and I suggest you wait till the translation is finish because the mtl can get very confusing to what is being said and translate something completely different.

Its a very cute love story, I rated it 5/5 but if we compare with my favorite authors like mxtx/meatbun/priest/FeiTianYeXian/ Men gXishi then I’d say its a 4.0/5

Again like I said its a light read so its really not fair to compare the novel to the authors’ novels I mentioned above. <<less

I'm kind of glad I didn't give up on this book after seeing the earlier reviews because it wasn't that bad at all. Although it should be said that I don't know Chinese and relied purely on MTL to finish the story, so I don't dare to say I understood everything 100% right.

The book actually has a somewhat decent plot, but it's still easy on the mind and not as complicated as some other martial arts themed stories tend to be. To me it feels more centered around letting the... more>> main creeps jump around to disgust the main characters -- this is also the weakest part of the book for me.
Spoiler

I had a hard time throughout the whole book trying to understand just how Yi Ning's martial brothers could let Gu Xiuxian (the scum ex) live like fish in water in the sect after knowing he ruined Yi Ning's cultivation and was excommunicated by his former master. They even let him still reside in Yi Ning's home. At first I thought they didn't like Yi Ning since they used to have some friction in childhood, but that wasn't the case at all. It's explained as the brothers not being so bright and having a misunderstanding but that sounds quite the feeble excuse if they care about Yi Ning. Plus, I was under the impression that a disciple interfering with a teacher was a big cultural taboo... Guess I'll just take it as the brainhole in this trope to let a clown continue to jump.

[collapse]

To add a bit to some earlier raised questionnable points:
Spoiler

What's so strange about a normal human being able to poison a martial arts master without being poisoned themselves? It only needs two components to be successful: for the mortal to know how to handle said poison and for the master to be caught unaware. And Yi Ning was caught in a moment of inattention, after all, Liu Rugeng employed psychological warfare against him with the exact goal of creating a momentary hole in his defenses.

Yan Xuan being able to walk away with Yi Ning from Gu Xiuxian at the beginning has not so much to do with cultivation levels as it does with the latter's character setting. I won't deny that the three having similar cultivation levels helps, but the crux of the matter is that the former disciple is a typical scum: he has king-of-the-world syndrome and he is all talk but no action when it comes to everyone but the MC. He feels that his master should obey all his words and he is also too busy with his world crashing down on him in that scene, hence no action.

[collapse]

Based on Junieb's review I expected the romance and MC's attitude to be like a yo-yo but that wasn't my experience. To me the romantic development felt quite normal, although the author milks Yi Ning being removed from the world and lacking understanding in human relationships for all it's worth. I think around somewhere chapter 30 Yi Ning realised that Yan Xuan had no intention of killing him and his understanding of that never wavers after. The confusion is probably caused by the author's deplorable/non-existent skills in distinguishing between separate scenes and locales. There are many chapters where the scene changes to another location and set of characters, but the text just goes on without any indication that the previous scene ended.
Spoiler

Later on the main characters needed to enter a very powerful illusion formation that is also said to be connected to the Heavenly Law to earn something. Yi Ning's trial was a 'what-if' scenario of what would have happened if on that day he wasn't given a book with his fate written in it and he didn't go to the back of the mountain to release Yan Xuan. When he sees the 'illusory' Yan Xuan he thinks of how he still mistakenly believed Yan Xuan wanted to kill him nine years ago.

After the 'illusory' Yan Xuan is freed, he goes to save his Yi Ning. However, this Yi Ning was already tormented by the villains everyday and he doesn't have the MC's positive experiences, so he is still under the misconception Yan Xuan wants to kill him – not to mention he has a death wish after everyhing he had been through.

(Btw, in the last extra this illusonary world is offically given the status of an alternate world by the author.)

[collapse]

All in all, I think the story is alright in it's own category. Depending on the translation I might change my rating later, but for now I'll be giving it 4 stars. (Which is the maximum this story can get according to my personal preferences.) <<less

It’s not a complicated story. I was going to skip on the story because of the scary reviews but I’m glad I read it. I MTL-ed so it took away the quality. Regardless the story is a satisfying and simple read. I love our ML protect his heart at any cost ❤️. It’s so hard to find a ML with all the right principles (interns of relationships). He stole the show.

This has quickly begun my favorite novel from the ones I've read (admittedly few), I'm unsure how exactly to explain my love for it but it's really good and I would highly reccomend !! The only condemning towards it I have is how there's really no fan content, it's so good I wish it were as popular as novels by MXTX

Don’t read if you are not in to xianxia romance novels. With that being said if you are like me and love Immortal x Devil venerable then definitely give it a try. The story is as the title suggests. The story starts with the synopsis given. Then the journey of MC and ML starts. The story focuses more on MC’s character development from the experiences he goes through along with MC and ML’s relationship. It’s a cute love story.

I found this book good at first. Actually the plot interest me so even the writing style sucks I still read it. Afterwards in reading this book I found some lopeholes of the author's developing the relationship of both parties the;MC and ml. But somehow this book kas good storyline if we sumarize it this should be good. I can't say its bad but I also won't say it was good. Just my point is this book plot would be good if the writer developed his or her writing style... more>> more mature and not be hurry to make more interaction between the both parties involve so let's give this 3 stars out of respect for efforts and passion!! <<less
