If you hate reading full plot descriptions for fictional movies and drama, don't bother with this novel because that's a huge chunk of the word count.

Warning aside, this is a career style 'shuangwen' novel focusing on Su Xinghe's smooth rise to the top of the acting chain. Ghost hunting gets touched on some but is never the real focus and romance doesn't just take the backseat it's stuffed in the trunk.

It's an enjoyable novel, nothing new but very moderate. In many acting/celebrity novels, netizens and random celebrities are always fighting... more>> with the protagonist to the point of annoyance but there's none of that here. Even if people feel jealous, they rarely take action. Even if netizens disagree they're rarely crazy enmasse. It's very refreshing to not have to deal with canon fodder 1 to 1000 every other chapter. Even if these characters aren't vivid, they're not a caricature so it makes the novel a pleasant read.

Honestly this novel is even neutral towards the western audience. There's still an undertone of "china number one" but it's tolerable. The protag has a bunch of western fans and promotes his movies there, the western characters are even nice people. They don't even tr*sh the church or priests.

Since the author focuses on Su Xinghe's career, they write a lot on his various dramas and movies. Every movie or variety show or drama will get a full plot described. Honestly, some of it is pretty interesting but I did just skim a few. After a while, since Su Xinghe is just such a godtier actor, they don't even focus on the actual filming because he's just that good.

Romance is boring. Basically, MC and ML are the same type of workaholic and are soulmates. That's it. ML barely appears after they get together and only pops up towards the ending. He's a nice guy but I'm not sure he's a proper character outside of his interactions with MC. I'm convinced the author knows this because they make in novel jokes about him being jealous because 'thats what trait a domineering CEO has'. He's also not domineering so uh don't get excited. It gets better towards the end because he actually appears but that's it.

Ghost stuff is also forgotten after the initial third of the novel. Gets a bit more of a mention than the male lead but the MC's system literally doesn't get mentioned for so many chapters I think the author forgot. Basically after training the MC to become the best actor it just goes offline in the novel.

Su Xinghe himself is quite likeable. He does get some growth and it's nice to see him transform from this clueless extra to a passionate actor who's more aware and savvy. It's not extreme but it's nice. Yeah he does technically have a cheat code but he's such a workaholic, he barely has time for romance. And honestly the system doesn't train him to be a director or producer but he does it well too.

If you're in the mood for a smooth sailing entertainment novel focusing on the film with some comedic elements, this novel isn't too bad to pass the time with. <<less
