They probably wouldn't have reconciled after the second time of encountering MC's mother - if it weren't for the MC being persistent and making sure they communicated.
I think this story would've worked better if it were the MC who got scolded by his mom and decided to break up with the ML instead. Then seven years later, the MC gets character development and tries to win the ML back.
