Spoiler

First 50 chapters had a lot of potential. Unfortunately the author went with the Japanese harem route, even including extremely cringey female characters. I started skipping chapters until ch 199 where our beta virg*n MC climbed into the tub with his main love interest and ran out because he claimed he's not an adult yet. The MC is 17 for Christ's sake, what a cuck

I've read enough so far to get a feel for this novel I think and would give a 2.5/5 for now.

The premise of the story has been interesting enough for me, but I wouldn't say there are any real stakes at play in the story so far other than the MC wanting to become stronger. The translation by AT is "okay" but it could use a more deft hand by an editor to fix up a glaring issue from the author (or maybe translator) ; but I'll get to that... more>> in a moment.

Some of the negatives in this story, in my opinion:

  • Harem. It's in the tags and I'm use to it in Japanese series, but it always shocks me when Korean authors fall into the trope as well since it has no pay off for them (ie: Japanese authors do it because its an anime cliche and their work's could become anime). That said the MC isn't completely oblivious and he seems to have his sights set on one particular girl, so I guess we'll have to see how that pans out. But the cast is basically the MC, 6-7 girls, and 1 comic relief side-kick dude.
  • Having a skill rarity grade and a proficiency grade, and then jumping between the two is s*upid confusing. The original author should have seriously split them up. Like rarity grade is Common, Uncommon, Rare, etc; and then added like a number or the -/+. Then kept proficiency as a letter grade as it is. But whatever, its not that important and it doesn't really ruin the story.
  • Conversations. This has been brought up by a few people and this is what I alluded to above. Here is a made up example of how something might go in the translated version:
    • "I've made a sword!" (Joe)
    • "Ya, but why is it puke green?" (Amy)
    • "That's just how the metals are!!" (Joe) Amy's face showed she was disgusted by the appearance of the sword.
  • I've included the hints to show who is talking but you don't get that in the translation. The problem is that third line where Joe is talking but then the sentence talks about Amy. This happens a ton in this series and common writing practice (at least in the west) is that the descriptive bits after a line of dialog, especially when the dialog and the description are literally in the same line, should be the same person -- they're not in this series. You need to keep this in mind when reading. At the very least, its consistent enough that you can usually assume the description is referring to the second to last thing someone said.
If you've ran out of stuff to read then this isn't a particularly bad series so far, but if you have stuff to read that everyone agrees is great, then read that before jumping into this. <<less

Tbh I can take it pretty well but one thing I hate the most is MC saying he only loves one girl and then using nicknames, making good presents and agreeing to go on dates... I mean WTF! And he even let the girls go when they cause trouble and act like they are in relationship ("it's not your fault") . If you hung up on a single woman... Why the hell do you even agree to move with alone like a f*cking date with other girls then tell our... more>> mobs and us readers that I only like 1 girl.. I feel like throwing my phone at those times.

My personal feelings: Eleanor sucks!! I just don't like her and how he gives her artifacts all the time...... (I say it again its my personal opinion about her so don't take offence..) <<less

This read like Toika needed a vacation, but also had bills to pay, so churned out a low-effort pastiche of his own works.

The premise had promise, but it needed a better execution. The key "MC suffers because of reasons, which narratively justifies all the rewards he'll get later" phase of the novel was blink-and-you'll-miss-it, with the story descending into absolute easy mode almost immediately.

About 2/3rds of the way through, it felt like the author himself got tired of the story and just wanted it to end, as right around the... more>> time you'd expect a "The MC shows that he's too strong for Earth, only to find out that he's been in the kiddie pool all along and has now graduated to deal with the real challenges" story progression, we instead have a bad-guy-interrupt that sends us directly to the climax of the story.

The hand-wavey timey-wimey bullsh*t to try to explain how everything makes sense also makes it difficult to actually care about the big picture of the setting, but then, the big picture of the setting is resolved so quickly that I'm not sure caring about it is necessary.

All of the usual Toika tics are there, so if you're looking for brainless generic Toika fun, this delivers, albeit in a sped-up easy-mode way. <<less

Gonna try to not make this too long and just jot down how I feel.

It's basically like a lot of people said it's a pretty typical Korean wish fulfillment "game world apocalypse" series but I like it. It's not special or unique but I think it's competent and enjoyable and the 1-star reviews are overdramatic. I think the premise is pretty interesting and slightly different from the norm. I appreciate that he isn't too heavily affected by his past life and tries to not let it change who he is.... more>> Like he starts to accept that he is Anvil and respects those memories but he never pretends that he isn't the him that he's always been.

I like the harem at the moment. I will say that some of them fall for him waaaay too easily but others are more believable.

Currently, there are 5 or 6 waifus but it's been hinted that the number will grow which is sucks because I'm sure the quality will decline as the harem members grow. 2 or 3 of them fell for him for not much of a reason but 2 of them love him because of his past life and one of them he's actively pursued which will lead me into the next segment.

AS OF RIGHT NOW he's been loyal to one chick. He's only ever pursued HER romanticly and his efforts paid off. The other girls he has actively rejected because he loves the one girl. He isn't dense, he just doesn't love them. But he DOES care about them. This is extremely refreshing in this genre. Now I'm aware that this is almost definitely temporary as I'm like 90% positive he's eventually gonna except the other girls as it's been heavily hinted and the polygamy tag is kinda telling. But for the time being, I'm enjoying it.

As for the story, it's pretty basic. Not a whole lot to say other than to reiterate that this is a p basic Korean litrpg and it has the same motif of dimensional dungeon breaks and monster vs human for the balance of the universe. If you've read Solo Level or Seoul Station Necromancer it's basically the same plot with a different MC.

One major complaint I had but I want to preface that I am completely unsure if this is an author problem or a translation problem.

It was really really hard to tell who was talking a lot of the time which made it extremely confusing on what was going on at any given time. I will have to give an example of what I mean. /"Go alone!" Baek tried to pull Shin-Hyuk with him, but Eleanor grabbed his hand/

Now as you can see dialogue was presented and then three people were immediately mentioned in a very short sentence. Now in most stories, the first person mentioned post dialogue would be the speaker but Baek isn't. After reading over it several times you realize Eleanor is the speaker here. Which is EXTREMELY confusing.

This can be easily fixed by changing it to

/"Go alone!" Eleanor grabbed Shin-Hyuk's hand as Baek tried to pull him along with him/

Now I'll continue the excerpt.

/1."I prefer you don't do anything that will be misunderstood"

2."Algiers?"

3."I don't think it's good to see you, Baekyang's successor, leading SHin-hyuk around here" The moment Kang shin-hyuk heard that his mind flashed. Meanwhile, Baeks eyes narrowed./

Now, this whole dialogue is extremely confusing but I'm pretty sure lines 1 and 3 were said by Eleanor, which is weird because she isn't mentioned anywhere in the line post dialogue. And I THINK line 2 was said by Shin-hyuk but it might have been Baek.

Now, this might sound nitpicky but it happens a whooole lot just about anytime anyone is talking and it tends to stack up and you lose track of who is talking and, in turn, what's going on.

It not too bad when it's just two people talking but the more characters involved in a conversation the more confusing it is. And there are times when there's a group of six or so talking. This particular scene I used involved 5 characters even tho in this particular excerpt there were only three talking.

I can already hear the "oh just read more intently" yeah sure but my point is I shouldn't have to read something 3 times just to figure out who is talking.

Again IDk if it's a problem with the translation or the writing itself. I tend to lean towards it being a writing problem tho as the translation has always been pretty solid with really good grammar so I just don't see the translators going out of their way to make things overly complicated. But I felt the need to not assume it was just the writing.

That being said I don't think it's nearly as bad as most of the one-star reviewers are saying tho but IDK maybe I have bad taste. <<less

As always, there's Toika and his schemes for another harem universe. Let's see... as soon as the novel starts, you have literally 2 women already trying to jump onto his d*ck from a few worlds away, one of them being a 6 year old. I really liked the beginning but I don't know if the author has picked up his brain over the last few novels and will make 2-D characters or if he will leave it like "MC is amazing, I'm so glad to be his Cheerlea- ahem, Harem... more>> member!" I'll give it a chance, but as soon as it becomes another one of his 'MC is smart, everyone else is a dum-dum', I'm dropping it. <<less

Not a bad story, thought it had a good plot and well a interesting view on how the characters interact with the stories environment. Now I am far from understanding how the author wants to write about some thing like a harem story and yet be so damn scared to write it. I mean it seems that this seems to be a trend with stories like this on this website. MC always seems to have conflicting issues about morals yet they want to right a FICTION story? If you want... more>> to write it don't start it and then turn into a puss because your scared how people will think about them. If that is the case stop writing them, always ruin a good story with all this crap, if you want a Harem then write a F*cking harem, gods so damn difficult to understand why this happens. <<less

This was a lot weaker compared to Toika's other novels. The plot's pace was too fast, blitzing through the story like a an angry bull on steroids. The romance was also pretty tr*sh. He introduced too many romantic interests while desperately trying (and failing) to only make the MC stick to only one. This is pretty frustrating because the main romantic interest isn't even that interesting and developed especially compared to his other novels. Man I know he's desperately trying to break free from the harem shackles but he can... more>> do better than this. <<less

I'm sorry, this is the only Toika novel I dropped.
I loved his 4 novels, Demon King was so-so, but this was unbearable. Despite me loving this type of story.

It reads like a novel written by teenager for teenagers (14-16). Teenagers, school, stipid teenage school stuff. I want more mature characters, feelings, motivation, plot and so on. This novel is way below his other novels.

The MC is just too polite that it become annoying, apologizing for every f*cking little thing.

Why the f*ck did he tell people about his reincarnation when he has no memory about his past life, he should have waited till he remember before contacting them. Of course he didn't forget to apologize to them for not being the old OP blacksmith that they used to know. I mean wtf dude it's not like they owe you something.

I'm sure that many can tell, but this novel revolves around a blacksmith. However, what one should understand before reading is that this novel is not your typical reincarnation novel. Yes, Anvil reincarnates on Earth as Kang Shin-hyuk, but he does not awaken to his memories. Kang Shin-hyuk, Anvil's reincarnation, receives the "Hero Universe" System, and in turn, gets a portion of his previous life's memories implanted in him.

Concerning the background of Shin-hyuk, Shin-hyuk is an orphan attending what can be seen as the best hero academy in this alternative... more>> world. This story's setting is mainly in Korea, and the county is a superpower in terms of heroes, ranking first. Heroes in this world all have a trait, which you can consider superpowers unique to each individual. While Shin-hyuk can be regarded as a genius, his trait empowering him with mastery over all types of weapons, his power is flawed. His very trait had become his shackles, preventing him from using mana. Without mana, he is no different from a civilian with proficiency in weapons. This changes upon receiving the system and an incomplete amount of his previous life's memories. His previous life had mastered a power called "spiritual power, " upgrading his blacksmithing skills, enabling him to enter the "Hero Universe" system. This spiritual power is a different energy system than mana, allowing Shin-hyuk to grow further as a hero. Furthermore, spiritual power can be considered a superior type of energy to mana due to its various uses. Most distinctly, only a select number of individuals in the universe can wield this power, many of them being powerful characters in the universe.

This novel's protagonist is a fighter and a blacksmith. Many people misunderstand, thinking that the main character should solely be a blacksmith, but I am afraid that is not right. He is a fighter who inherited his previous life's memories as a blacksmith. He uses his abilities as a blacksmith to augment his capabilities as a fighter. This novel's protagonist is also a harem protagonist, where he is inadvertently gathering a following of capable women. However, keep in mind that he is pursuing a single woman. This fact may change in the future, but until this moment, that is the situation.

I enjoy this novel, and I believe that others will welcome it if they like what they read in this review. <<less

2.5/5 Rounded up to 3.

This story had a lot of potential, but falls really flat on execution.

Bad Translation - I'm sorry, but the MTL version is somehow much more understandable than the linked version...

... more>> The story fails on it's promise and premise - He's supposed to be an broke, weak, and manaless orphan who's deemed as a failure. By chapter 50 out of 300, he's already rich, more talented, and stronger than the genius' of his generation. The school hinders him more than anything, but he stays there for no reason.

Bad Characterization - The main character is broke and hated for being weak. Instead of being ambitious or crafty, he's just simple and accepts his status. When he finally gains power, he's more "oh cool, power" instead of "lets use this power to enrich my life and help others".

Poor Pacing - There's a plot point where he's syncing with his past memories. But there's no rhyme or reason for the syncing rate. Sometimes he's get 0.1%, sometimes he gets 2%. There are no rules, just whatever the author wants to happen. <<less

Interesting premises but highly lacking in execution... it would have been better if we see MC atleast struggling or pretend to be struggling at something... Instead everything is handed to him on a silver platter via exclusive 'administrator-service' who somehow manages to give MC that particular login bonus he might need that day...

This author has a knack to make females as annoying and/or as yandere as possible... super-OP MC can't say no to a cute girl, even if it means joining an organisation he was strictly against... or going along... more>> with an OP-FL who seriously has some mental issues...

All capable people are either MC or females - though clearly these girls got to be brain-damaged if they all, despite being bad-ass OP characters, willingly agree to share a guy and become a part of someone's harem... <<less

Another book by Toika! I wish I could have rated this higher, but really, I would rate this a 4 for the Toika, and 2 for the horrible translation.

Without having read other Toika works, such as Stop! Friendly Fire!, a reader may not know how horrible the translation is for this particular book.

First of all, it is very difficult to know Who is saying What when there is a dialogue going on. Lines of dialogue gets thrown about without identifying the speaker. Worse, these lines of dialogue make... more>> no sense.

Here is an example :

“Uncle Halo, she hasn’t given me anything like this.”

“It’s okay; we already have one.”

“A person who works hard is so cool!”

Kang Shin-hyuk thought so too, but she looked away.

“I guess a lot has piled up.”

“Isn’t it okay?”

What... what did they already have? What piled up? What is okay?

The gist of the book isn't completely lost in translation, however, none of the comedy, the funny, the action, the logic and explanation that is toika's trademark escaped from this ruthlessly horrible translation. What a miss. <<less

I found the novel pretty interesting early on when he was getting stronger and making new equipment.

I kind of ignored this because he was still questing, building things, and making new items.

Eventually, though, this isn't enough to prop up things when dull sections show up.

Here are the things that popped into my head while reading and reviewing this novel.
    • The relationships are downright boring. He's "in love" with somebody supposedly and you can't really tell.

Everybody else just sees him as the strong guy, the smart guy, or the guy who can make things for him.
    • The pace is way too fast. In one chapter he'll get a new skill or piece of equipment and, before you know it, it's gone, replaced by a new thing or an evolution.
    • After a while, his being in school felt pointless. He was stronger than everybody, could make better things, and wasn't learning a single thing.

Supposedly he was there for official recognition but it was obvious the Association was perfectly willing to give him whatever he needed.

This might be ignored if he had deep or interesting relationships to read about while at school, but he doesn't.
    • He faces very little adversity. He's pretty much always flush with resources and points.

      To make things worse,

nobody is a threat to him.

He faces maybe one setback in the entire story and you can't even say he lost that fight.
    • For a novel about a Blacksmith, there's very little actual detail about him making anything. "*clank* *clank* *clank*

      voila, I made -blank-"

is uninteresting and a pretty lazy way to do things.
I really wished the author has stuck more to one thing or another.

Either have him be that equipment-making guy who has to learn recipes or earn resources or be that guy off questing and fighting.

Instead, we get small bites of everything jumbled together that don't really feel satisfying.

It's not a bad Toika story. If I were to compare it to his other stories, it would rank right in the middle in terms of quality. It has all the stuff that he's known for so if you're not into game systems, a protagonist that is loved by everyone and is the best at everything (read Gary Stu), and harems then you'll probably hate it. And if you love harems, you'll probably also hate it.

In this story it feels like the harem stuff and the protagonist's interactions with them... more>> get a higher word count compared to his other works and that's where I feel let down. As of 179, one girl has won the Hyuk-bowl but the other girls still hang on and flirt with him and he still does everything with them but kiss them. It's a bit like what happened with Liera in EER but unlike EER, the main girl hasn't earned it (dude seriously falls for her at first sight) and the protag's lovey-dovey school boy actions and dialogue doesn't really work for an old man. Interactions with the girls plays a more central part in this story and it's honestly not enjoyable to read. It's downright painful at times and I wanted to skip any chapters with Claire, or, Eunah, or any of the girls really. The rest of the story is fine so far for a shonen story. Some of it is even good. Great might be too high of a praise but the parts where he's simping for Claire is just too annoying to not keep mentioning. Like, if you're going to write a harem then commit. Don't write a harem where there is a main girl and the rest are in the friendzone trying to steal the guy. And no, changing the dynamics in the last arc doesn't fix what you wrote in the previous chapters. <<less

Seeing so many comments about this being a subpar work by Toika makes me happy, to be honest, because I thought this was very well done. If his other works are even better, then I really look forward to reading them!

Here's the thing: As you can clearly see in the tags, this story involves a harem. As you can clearly tell by the synopsis, the MC is going to be OP as hell. If those two things are a turn-off for you, then stop now so that you don't waste... more>> your time writing a bad review because you read something that was clearly exactly as described.

Here's the reason why I recommend this work (and look forward to reading Toika's others if they follow suit) : This was written well. In light novels, the dialog is what moves the story along. I can't tell you how many light/web novels I've read where I enjoyed the story but the dialog was just too bland and unsatisfying. That is not the case here. The dialog and especially the back-and-forth banter between characters is exactly what I'm looking for in these types of stories. The humor and snark in them works just as well in English as it did in the original language.

If you like OP MC's and good banter between characters, give this a try. <<less

I personally feel that this could be the worst among Toika's novels. Novel's vibe is eerily similar to typical Japanese shounen LN with harem and school life. I feel that the power system is rather half-baked and inconsistent while the romance part is overly done. Not much character development at where I stopped as well. I would probably give this novel another go if I'm really really bored and have nothing else to read.
