To be honest, this story is irritating. The female MC feel insecure and believe her husband loved his cousin (which the male lead and his cousin never admit). MC was alienated by the servants since the servants support ML x cousin pairing. Being someone with low esteem, the MC feel kept feeling guilty and allow the servants to tr*sh talk her all the time. At the beginning of the story, the MC was quite close with the cousin and husband and describe them as kind and gentle. Yet those two... more>> never reprimand the servants either. With how those two behave, I understand why the MC didn't believe in MC. I wouldn't believe him either. I just don't get the MC logic. It feels like she merely choose to act as a villain since the author want to take the most dramatic route possible. So every chapters we always get MC's inner monologue where she felt all guilty and try to get divorced by acting like a villain. Her plan was ridiculous to begin with, so instead of feeling melancholic, I only get annoyed.

If you want to feel melancholic and sorry for the protagonist, read My Fiance is in Love with My Little Sister instead. 100% angst without s*upid logic, and the MC actually do something to make herself and people around her happy. <<less

In the beginning, the novel was rather interesting, being introduced to the main 'conflict' asap instead of building up to it. But as the story progressed, it became more agonizing to read. The MC is very stubborn and pessimistic (she has the typical Japanese 'I refuse to believe/accept it' temperament, who denies everything and is afraid to acknowledge the truth), a large part of it has to due with her past.

However, things become redundant really fast with how her personality is and after a while, you become tired of it.... more>> You really can't help but want to slap her out of it sometimes. (It's really annoying to read about the MC and her deep and pure love for the ML, while purposefully denying herself of her right to love him.) Tbh, it's more like she's running away and doesn't want to face what she's done. Because if she leaves, she'll be labeled by what she's done and then eventually forgotten by the mass and only brought up every so often, rather than trying to clear up everything she's done and properly atone for all that she believes she's done wrong.

The ducking circle we dance around:

Spoiler

Her conversation with the ML:

"I want you to say it again. I want you to tell me. You―――"

"Love you. I love you, " I said without letting him finish his sentence, and he hugged me so tight that I couldn't breathe.

He pressed his lips against my cheeks and kissed the tears that flowed down my cheeks.

"Let's go home, Ophelia, " Orpheus's voice was so calm that I wanted to leave everything to him and immerse myself in his hug.

"Let's go home together and start over from the beginning. We've solved our misunderstandings. I'm sure it'll go well this time."

If I nod now then we'll probably be able to return to the starting point. We can hold hands and live happily ever after.

――― But is that fine?

"I... can't."

"..... Why?"

I twisted my body and tried to get out of his hug, but he held on tighter and pressed a hand against my back.

I pushed his arm away and tried to get away, but his thin body didn't yield.

"I've... hurt you. I was a nuisance to a lot of people and sullied the Rosenstein House's honour. You know this, don't you? What people say about me in high society."

"Then just don't go out in public. You just have to stay in the mansion. I'll give you whatever you want, and if you're bored, then I'll get people to talk to you. You can continue your friendship with His Highness Claudias. I'll protect you."

"That's not the problem. That way is useless. No one will agree."

I can't act innocent and be protected by Orpheus. I'm not allowed to do that.

"Only you and I need to agree."

"That's no good. I have to make amends."

[collapse]

Spoiler

Her constant profession of love:

"Claude. I think of you as my best friend. You're someone who I respect and you're very important to me. I can accept most of your requests, but marriage is impossible. I can't marry you."

"You're speaking bluntly."

"Yes, I am. I'm not going to marry anyone other than Orpheus."

"You can't love me?"

His beaming smile changed into a lonely one. He clenched his fist and held in his anger.

"I love you as a friend."

"How about as someone of the opposite sex?"

"I gave that love to that person. All of it."

My feelings remain the same even if we divorce and never meet again. I will continue to love Orpheus.

So, I won't remarry.

Even if an extremely charming man whispered his love to me or lavished me with money. Even if I become poor and can't even feed myself every day.

[collapse]

Overall, it's not a bad read, but it also makes you want to pull at your hair at times. Therefore, it's better if you wait for the novel to be completely translated before reading, otherwise, you might just actually pull your hair out due to frustrations. <<less

this husband is such a jerk. He knew why she's always like that but does nothing about it. He does not take some time to understand where she's coming from.

Spoiler

ever since her mother died (i've read the manga too), she has been suffering from her father's beatings and almost sold her to prostitution. She has never had anything that she can call as hers. That's why she'll never consider Orpheus as her husband if she always see him happy with Diana.

[collapse]

some says that she should have initiated/stated that she wanted a divorce - Ophelia loves him so much that she'll taint her own reputation just for him to be happy but deep inside, I know that she's hoping that he'll just clarify everything on his own and do something about it (not just talking but acting too) and not Diana doing the explaining. That's why she's a bit disappointed with him but somehow hoping that he loves her too. She has no confidence and security in the so called love with Orpheus only tolerating her negative image and the love that Diana has been talking about (such BS she's talking about and making Ophelia feel like she's always the bad one for interfering with their love story)

Spoiler

I'm also glad I read this novel since I thought that Diana and Orpheus are blood related (from the manga) but they are not which was clarified since the first month that they married and all the helpers of the house ships the two of them making her the villain in their eyes no matter how good or bad she treat them. No wonder Ophelia doesn't believe what BS Diana is spouting and how Orpheus is dealing with her with a cold attitude and I don't care attitude. Orpheus doesn't do anything with his servants treating her badly and disregarding her as they please. I would also divorce him even though he save me from her father's abusive home. I just don't believe with that love BS they're saying.

[collapse]

and reading the tag that included UNREQUITED LOVE, I'm readying myself on future angst and tragedy on this novel but I do ship her with Claude and hope that he's not gay anymore :P <<less

This is quiet interesting novel. I am not satisfied how the MC acted and faced her problem. I mean it's a big mis understanding, she is deluded and always assuming the worst.

She grow up in distressing environment where she didn't develop a positive outlook in her life that's why she looks at the situation in a twisted negative way. She has the lowest self respect and self esteem ever and I don't blame her that because she was never shown love and respect growing up.

The ML seemed genuinely like her... more>> at first, seems there's no love yet at the first stage of their marriage but ML is doing his job and responsibility.

The MC sees the situation in a negative way that's why she handled it her "twisted and dumb ways" and that's where the story began.

Spoiler

There goes the explanation why she acted like that. She's dumb isn't she, she can just ask ML to divorce her with the reason she have Claude already. Why the need to ruin your reputation and make the ML name to be tainted. She is self acclaimed great actress so why can't she just do that?! Lol

[collapse]

This is a new approach and quiet distressing story but I still like to know more about it and how it will end. More or less, I still love this! <<less

The concept is good but there are too many loopholes to make it believable. The whole story is based off of a bunch of misunderstandings of who likes who which makes it interesting but the misunderstandings could so easily be resolved but they aren’t because that would end the story lol.

Possible Spoiler:

The MC thinks Diana loves Orpheus which Diana denies. Obviously the MC won’t believe her so all Diana has to do is say WHO it is she loves. Instead she goes in such a roundabout way saying, “I know... more>> I should leave but I want to stay by his side.” not naming the guy she loves which is just asking for misunderstandings and it just ends up sounding silly making the story unbelievable. <<less

It all revolves around a big misunderstanding which is dragged on for the sake of plot development.

It's wasn't super bad -at least there wasn't an abusive ML. Although in this case it's the reverse. It's the MC who hurts ML based on a misunderstanding. The idea of acting as a capricious, gaudy and cheating wife to get away from her husband was somewhat entertaining.

I meant to give this a two-star, not to be mean but to be fair. (I’m always conflicted about the subject of my reviews - author or characters?) I’ll get straight to it then: all the characters seem... meh! Ironically, the only character that makes sense is the FL’s father! The FL, Orpheus, Diana, Juris, Claude and the rest of them just don’t make sense at all. The entire plot is just a poor attempt by the author to create angst and compassion for the FL. I mean how do... more>> you explain her doing s*upid things so her ‘beloved’ can be with the woman he loves, but when it turns out she’s the one he loves, she (FL) plans to leave him. Whatever happened to wanting his happiness?

The only positive thing about this story is that it’s short - imagine going through hundreds of pages of... s*upidity! <<less

It's really to early to tell if this story is very good, but from the first few chapters, I'm left with a "meh" feeling. It's fine writing and all, but a little... dull. And the MC seems kinda s*upid. I get it--she's in love and wants the guy she loves to be happy. But sometimes I think she goes a little bit too far. She complicated things a lot more than they have to be, and it leaves me putting my head in my hands. So... meh. I'll keep reading... more>> and see if it gets any better. <<less

If you ever want to feel as though someone was stabbing you in the chest, read this! :) The author's knife-throwing skills are incredibly accurate!

A healthy amount of suspension of disbelief is necessary but if you can get into it, it's really depressing! Super effective! :) Just cured your depression?! :O Oh, no! Never fear! The author can get you down in less than 5k words! :) And due to the translator's hard work, the English version perfectly conveys EVERY frustrating, tear-jerking, anxiety-inducing bit of it.

I suppose you could say... more>> 'all's well that ends well' but reading this just left me with a bad taste. A single spoonful of sugar is not enough for ten pitchers of bitter medicine.

5/5 for the writing & translation quality; 2/5 for the actual content.

Personal recommendation: Don't read this if you're in a delicate frame of mind. It's enough to make you cry and ruin your day. <<less

First of all, I start to read this when I am in the mood to feel sad, so I expect my heart to be stabbed a lot. If you are looking for this, I guess it depends on what you have read so far. I personally find it hard to feel intense sadness by reading this. Perhaps I would feel like this if I read this a few years back.

Regarding the storyline, you would need to be patient. First 10 chapters, I continue to read because I am curious. Chapter... more>> 11-20, I start to feel frustrated with the MC. The first 20 chapters for me feel so long like a drag. But later I know that it was necessary for the later plot. Around chapter 20+ you will see the story to finally moving and MC start to develop herself.

At first I want to rate 3 stars, but after finished read here is my rate. In overall I think the story deserve it, even if it has some plotholes but I don't care about that.

Thank you for the author and translator! <<less

I really don’t know. Every chapters having me in tears on how heart wrenching the MC was, but it’s a frekin misunderstandings., what worst she doesn’t want to listen to the truth. But you have to see her point of view, feels she is worthless, and on top she was abused, no wonder she had a very negative self esteem snd tend to self abused alot. So it’s kinda frustrating read for me. But its a good read. Tq

I understand where the other reviewers are coming from, but I quite like the story. Here me out..

Rather than annoying, I think the MC (Ophelia) just has a different thought process. Yes, as a reader I can think of different ways/solution to her problem but again, I'm just a reader. And Ophelia is the one in the story. Yes, she does things in such a complicated and roundabout manner. And I find it interesting and fun to read. The story development is pretty good so far. Sure, the story isnt... more>> very realistic, but the characters make sense.

And yes there may be parts that are redundant or repetitive but I'll list some things I quite like about the story in general:

    • The characters seem like actual humans who have their own beliefs, misunderstandings, assumptions, opinions, and emotions. Not only the MC, but the other characters have their own primary misunderstanding.
    • The characters aren't perfect, especially MC. They make mistakes. They make the wrong decisions. And they ultimate regret it.
    • The situation (at least to them) is complicated. Because they have their own emotions and wants/goals.
    • It's pretty dramatic. Like actually beware if you're put off by overly dramatic. I like it tho
    • Again, the MC just seems more human. She made a decision based on her assumptions and she has to bear the consequences. She gets confused and hurt because of her own actions. And well, that's just how being human works...
So tl;dr, read this if you're looking for mistakes/wrong decision, a roundabout way of showing love, a story primarily built on a misunderstanding, and angst drama.

Spoiler

Idk if it's just me, but the story has the underlying focus of like how people react differently when it comes to love. Like the MC is basically all "I love you so much and that's why I want you to be happy even if it's not with me." And then the ML is like "I love you so much that you don't have to love me just stay by my side." And I think that's pretty cool.

I honestly wouldn't rate this a 5 star, but I wanted to remedy the people who gave this novel a 1 star. Yes, I see where some people were coming from, but at least in Ophelia's defense, her environment made her incapable of knowing the proper way to go about the entire situation. [Spoiler=Small spoiler]She was abused by her father, and she was never treated with love, so how was she to know he liked her? He freaking treated her worse than a servant and whipped her when she was... more>> like what 6?! I find it incredible she can still be so kind after being raised in such an awful environment. [/Spoiler] The reason she acted so s*upidly was that she had no clue how to act, and no one ever told her how. This is where I got frustrated and would deduct some points:
[spoiler=Major spoiler. Read with caution~]Orpheus loves her as well. He was raised in a more normal environment, so why the heck didn't he just go upfront about it??? Like, dude, even if you have an inferiority complex, you had enough courage to get this marriage with her and treat her that way, so why not just say "I love you." That could've solved the misunderstandings to come. Also, Claude did not help. He's supposed to be the 7th prince! Like come on, dude, why didn't you try to stop your reckless friend? Is that truly what a friend does? At least give some guidance. Also, he knew how Orpheus felt towards her, AND he knew that she really liked Orpheus and went to such lengths, so why not tell her!? I understand he wanted her to break off with him, but you need to ask the person in question, too! At first, I thought it was cause he liked her, but nooo. He later admits his target was Orpheus! Shocker, right?? Also, on a side note, what the heck is the king thinking? We've got a prince who dresses up like a shabby poor artist and who's gay. I'm pretty sure this in itself speaks volumes of how messed up the court might be. Also, what's his face, the butler, he liked Diana. He even went up MC and tells her this. He wanted her to give up, and he had soooo many chances to clarify this situation. But guess what? He didn't. He never said the most important part, which could've clarified everything for the MC. [/Spoiler]

Okay, I'm done ranting, sorry. Also, don't misunderstand, I really do like this novel. I love the character personalities, and I thought the story was a nice read. I just wished the author kept the misunderstandings to a minimum. The ML was a great guy. I admire his tolerance and patience. I also loved Diana and MC's maid. Overall, I mainly loved the characters and would recommend this. Tho, I must say you'll get frustrated and cry at times over the things that happen. Even so, I don't think this novel was worth a 1-star rating. I'd rate this at least 3 stars if not 4, probably a 3.5 <<less

A deviation from the normal for this type of story.

The translator is very good! I follow most of the translations on the blog.

We have a heroine who thinks she is a villainess standing in the way of her husband (the guy she loves) and his actual lover. She wants to be self sacrificing so she acts like a shameless psycho/outcast in high society so he'll have a good reason to dump her.

She does have a pretty sad backstory but even if your self esteem is low from being hurt by... more>> a jerk if you proceed this way you're hurting both of you... I don't understand how she came up with that plan....

She handles the situation not by talking it out with the guy but instead hurting both of their reputations by acting inappropriately. There are like literally 100 better ways to handle things, it can't be that hard to end things somewhat amicably. (Pretend you're infertile or go the religious route become a nun and dedicate yourself to god if you're so eager to sacrifice yourself)

Okay guys here's the twist!

Spoiler

He is not with that other girl and he actually quite likes MC. Only for some reason he is also reasonable conversation impaired.

Even though Ophelia's character was a little annoying, I understand why it had to be like this. She had no faith in herself. Never. As she is an abused child, it was easy for her to be pessimistic about herself.

And with the servant's constant discrimination towards her, I get why it had to be like that. But overall, I enjoyed reading it. It was a short, sweet and fun ride. Thank you blushy for translating so clearly.

This is actually quite interesting. It is only in chapter 29 but I can see where the MC is coming from, most especially that she grew up in an environment where she was brainwashed to make her lose her confidence and be very much insecure. Yes this story revolves around misunderstanding but as well as on how the couple would be able to tackle their own problem.

  1. I'm seeing more of the story, so I hope people would give this a try.
