Unlike other women her age, Anna had managed to choose a husband for herself. The man she had picked was a serious one, rigid to his morals, but also honest even to a fault. These traits were what endeared him to her.

“My, you are too tall,” she had mused, “If I were to ever kiss you I’d have to stretch up my toes.”

In response to that, he bent down and kissed her instead. When they parted, she smiled up sweetly at him.

“Don’t sulk, dear, you’ll only look more serious if you do.”

And so he tried to give her a smile, which in turn looked more like a grimace instead, “It is an honor to be bound to you.” he had told her. She lightly tapped him on the chest to let him know she had the same sentiments.

Little did he know she had met him before already…

In a different time…

In a world filled with skyscrapers.

This sort of reads like a Jane Austin era-esque novel.

It's inspired by Tolsky's novel, Anna Karenina (dubbed the greatest work of literature ever), which is set in the late 1800s of Russia. In Tolsky's novel, the titular Anna is already married and is having an affair with a count. The timeline in this story is set before that, right before Anna meets and marries the ML (Alexei Karenin), whom Anna is cheating on in Tolsky's story.

And also unlike Tolsky's novel, the MC here had an accident which caused her, a... more>> former runway model in the 21st century, to transmigrate into this Anna at a time before Anna's older brother is married (however, while MC thinks she's in a classic novel, it seems the author is just using the novel as a setting--it reads like a standard period piece, i.e. There's no system or villain and it's not a rebirth, so it's more like a time travel story than anything else).

This is a pure romance story. If there is any real drama, it hasn't shown up in 46 chapters yet (maybe later, we might see interlopers, but the CP's relationship is largely uncomplicated). It's mostly about Anna and Alexei learning how to be husband and wife in the aristocratic society of Russia in the 1800s.

You kinda have to suspend your disbelief on how Anna (at least) first falls in love with the ML. Her deepening feelings as their relationship grows closer are better developed though.

Spoiler

ML looks like an devoted admirer of hers in her past life, whom she never got a chance to know. So, she decides to pursue a romance with him based on this--kind of a yolo type of reasoning. Luckily, the novel doesn't rely on this aspect too much to develop their relationship and it can also be read similar to smt like an arranged marriage where the MC falls in love at first sight.

[collapse]

But the development of the ML's feelings are much more believable and the growth of their relationship as they get to truly know each other as husband and wife is the highlight of the story.

Another highlight is how a modern woman navigates the world of 19th Century high society Russia.

Slight warnings for the story's corset misuse/tight-lacing and the author having Anna go by Oblonsky instead of Oblonskaya. <<less

I'm reading accord to the updates, and that's what I recommend to new readers. That's not a really full of movement narrative, so a slow read can allow you to better appreciate the heartwarming moments into the chapters :)

The romance falls flat. Although it may be realistic in a sense, I think the way it was written is a little boring. It does not give me the urge to read the mtl version at all.

I will not rate this because I don't want to affect it's overall rating. However, I did not enjoy reading this.

the translated chapters are broken down and so I've read till chapter 76 in raws and honestly its a great book to pass the time...i started it out extremely in love with the concept of a happy 'arranged' marriage sort of thing and was looking forward to their daily life and how the romance would unfold. it's very amazing, makes me think that although the ML is not necessarily my ideal type or what I would hope for in a partner (some aspects are too rigid and unromantic to a... more>> level) although I must say he's becoming more and more romantic like one of the last things I read was about him setting up a date for them after she mentioned something similar.... he's a great man and even I fell for hm a bit T.T

it does seem a bit lengthy for only about daily lie so I'm not sureif they're planning on spicing things up cuz I was mostlywaiting for them to finally sleep together but then there's like time skips or something where they have a kid... idk mtl is confusing.

it was fun. <<less

Wow, my first review cause I saw the novel isn't getting much love.

I really like this novel and what I like the most is how feasible it is. There's no toxic male or female lead gaslighting each other. Just two people getting to know each other and feeling happy they married the right one.

It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea because it does describe mundane life but there's magic in the simplicities of life. 🤷

As much as I’m hooked with a parallel world Anna Karenina, I just can’t get myself to like this kind of narrative. I appreciate the setting but reading it feels like skipping stones.

Anna was apparently a runway model (?) or some sort of public figure, and Alexei was a secret admirer of hers (mentioned to have worn a ring so maybe that’s why they never had a chance) who left a deep impression so she grabbed this chance. But I can’t wrap my head onto how she’s so... more>> in love right away (??).

Theres also a mention of Anna writing Alexei 10 reasons why he should marry her but it was never elaborated and just kept getting mentioned that it existed. Even Alexei’s response to this letter that made her swoon. Like, the descriptions are romantic but I personally can’t feel the romance with the lack details and seemingly very speedy falling in love. I-I need details!

Well, besides the lack of details, the flow itself just doesn’t feel very smooth to me, kinda like snippets roughly sewn together. <<less

I've been using this website for years, but I only made an account just now so I could leave a review for this novel.
Suffice to say I absolutely adore it. I'm a complete sucker for romances that almost immediately start off with marriage, and this one takes the cake. The FL is confident, honest and sensible, and the ML is dependable, straightforward and not the least bit toxic. They're just so adorable, warm and fuzzy together, I can't help but smile the entire time while reading.

I highly recommend this... more>> novel for anyone who loves cute, fluffy, drama free romances.

Spoiler

"But now, when he embraced his wife, the way she fit in his arms so perfectly, it felt as natural as breathing. It dawned on him then that this was love, natural and quiet."
