Description

She is an honorably retired SWAT officer with meritorious deeds and is a dashing detective who solves cases like a god.

One day, a strange golden board with eight divinatory trigrams brings her to a different world, where she is bestowed as a gift to a general’s manor.

He is a grim god of war whose power overwhelms six countries and the defender-general of the state with military power in his hands. An imperial edict brought him a delicate concubine. He turned and left. After returning, his second in command and soldiers ignored him. Instead, they kept on saying, “What does madam think?”

When has the general’s manor changed its owner?

Solving cases, training soldiers, night attacks, suppressing bandits, street fights, counter-terrorism operations, naval battles – one after another appeared on stage. She played with flourish, yet he was unable to resist even a little.

Started this one because it seemed like a short, fun novel. There are some interesting things going on in the plot, but overall, it didn't manage to impress me.

There are some positive aspects. The FL is capable, confident and it was fun when she showed off her capabilities, but at the same time this was also a drawback. The FL is supposed to be intelligent, but somehow she just came off as arrogant and impulsive. On top of it, this is something that she accuses the ML of constantly, who... more>> for all intents and purposes has every right to be arrogant seeing as he's a high ranking general with a lot of power and wealth who has proved himself on the battlefield many times over, whereas she is new to the world and has no business acting as arrogant as she did. If the Su family members weren't as nice as they were, she should have been thrown out of the household for her behaviour.

I also didn't like how fast she became all strong and able to beat everyone around her. The body that was trained and honed was left behind in her previous world. In this world she is in the body of a weak fifteen year old girl and somehow in a matter of a few months she is almost invincible?

The chapters full of her training the soldiers are boring. The story itself is not smooth. Things are just happening one after the other with no apparent thread.

If the story was a little more streamlined, it would have been a shorter and more enjoyable read. <<less

This is the best shoujo soul transmigration/reincarnation to ancient dynasty series out there. It really is.

There is practically no magic. (Wuxia exists though). There is tons of romance, but its the fun kind of romance. The MC is head strong, and actually strong. Its extremely entertaining in many ways, including strategy, tactics, comedic romance between 2 tsunderes (yeah, you never seen that before), and strong/uplifting MC's.

Its great. I recommend it. You see, when I hate something I can write so much about it. But when I love something, there is... more>> soo much to say, that you can't really put words to describe how great it is.

Meh. Not quite what I was hoping for. Not bad, but not really that different when you get down to it. In this novel, instead of a male power fantasy, it is a female power/romance fantasy. The romance is cute I guess; yet also really annoying at times. The whole misunderstandings cliche is overused and draws away from the novel for example. The things the female MC does simply don't match up with what she should be capable of performing. She definitely shouldn't be better at military stratagem then the... more>> War Lord. Of course, that's how it always goes in these novels. People in power who should totally be better at something then the MC are instead inferior for whatever reason. In all, it isn't bad as stated before. But it is not different, unique, or special. People hype on it because it features a female lead and has some more focused romantic plot points. It really felt like "A Step Into the Past" (which was also ok) but with a female MC.

To be fair, seeing all the staggeringly positive reviews made me put too much faith into the novel before beginning to read which may have altered my enjoyment of the novel. Give it a try, but don't go in thinking that is the best and most unique novel you'll ever read... it isn't. <<less

a very underestimated and underrated title.

absolutely above superficial mainstream attractions in terms of both, characters AND fighting. (Except the dumb dudes who keep looking down oh her are annoying.)

plus there’s the parallel Record of Washed Grievances happening at the same time from the point of view of her friend, which is very unique.

Our female MC here is the type you don't want to mess with. She has the prowess to command people and emerge victorious in situations where the ancient people see no hope. Also, those who grew feelings for the MC are such fine lads and most of the characters are likable in my opinion. I especially liked those under the MC's command, when their doubts turns to awe then respect, gold.

Am like "wew" while reading this and upon reaching the 43th, I say "more." There's this feeling upon reaching the... more>> later parts that it was rushed in order to just put an end on the story thus, I think this shouldn't just end at 43. Or maybe that's just me. Anyway, a good read. <<less

I am in love with the MC.

The story is quite long and hard to understand on some points, but all in all it got me going. I sat down put on my seatbelt on because this is just a roller coaster ride you would'nt forget.

The MC is admirable, although she is transmigrated, she worked hard to be who she is right now. She is pretty much the 'hard work beats talent'

She is also quite OP, but it is reasonable:
Of course, one is she remembers her past life... more>> and the other is...
Spoiler

the bing lian sword. Even though she is OP she is still quite lovable by Su Ling, and can t help but be protective of her. Chapters near 29 is my fav

[collapse]

She is confident on her decisions and other's opinions doesn't matter as long as she attained her goal for the good and correct justice.

As you read further you will appreciate the author's work. It is probably made with thorough research about the traditional and modern military. Some gets confusing, but take note, there are 3 stories on the same dimensional world, I have no idea how arduous it took a toll to make. I'm pretty much hooked on this story so ill probably read the other works too because the side stories are interesting.

Of course the translator did an amazing job, he/she probably had a hard time doing it because the story is not your typical cnovel. It is mixed with strategies, training terms, detective roads, etc. even I had to reread paragraphs by paragraphs, imagine translating it?!

The translator 'nutty' explained that he/she has to make a new sentences or paragraphs to make the readers understand the context well. Thanks so much!

I also appreciate that this is continued by a new translator since nutty is quite busy ♥ and he/she is open about it <<less

Sigh. What a disappointment. This is actually my second time reading this and I enjoyed it the first time. But now, I could only pick up the flaws of the novel and barely had anytime to enjoy the love between the two because MC is dense as f*ck.

I cannot for the life of me, fathom how a 27 years old can act so immature, impulsive, unreasonable, stubborn to a fault, reckless and without a care for the feelings of others around her. MC is TOO op. No flaw, no nothing.... more>> Everybody admires her. But too much OP can alos be a reader's source of dissatisfaction.

Spoiler

she would've been dead the first time she opened her eyes because of her attitude. If she was in another household then damn, flog 50 times!

The first arc made me '???'. In just 2 weeks the body of a weak and delicate 15 years old girl was already capable of running around the mountain overtaking grown ass men? Absolute bullshit. Even the transmigrated assassin to cultivator needs at least a month! Author should know 'the soul remembers but the body cannot' principle!!! But anyway, this is just a novel so I let it go. But then her way of training.. Even I had to raise a brow! She is unreasonable in training them, it went on again and again whenever she's training soldiers. Even if her trainings worked, it was simply obnoxious and, yes, unreasonable.

She takes action without care for the consequences. Hurts others around her and acts proudly. Can't find the reason why ML can like someone like her.

She does everything in a big manner, particularly attracting litrally everyone. Maybe that's the author's goal, make her like a god in everybody's eyes. ?‍♀️?‍♀️. Would've been good but the execution wasn't.

[collapse]

ML is the usual cold ML. I really like him and he's the reason why I liked general MLs in the first place. But now reading it again. If he's not angry, he's in love. Could've nade him more human. And no, love does not make one more human. Romance was abrupt even if MC did 'not' show reciprocation. It was the usual 'I saved you now I'm interested in you'. Simple too cliched.

2. 5 /5. I would've rated this one if only I did not enjoyed it the first tine I read it. <<less

Beginning was awesome. I loved Gu Yan's strength and her capability, especially when she was showing the Su soldiers who was boss. The investigation stuff was boring and towards the end it was super boring. I personally though Gu Yan would have been better off with Ao Tian, but sadly no.

First book was good and the idea of a series was interesting so I started reading this right after finishing the first one.

The story quality drops a lot. You take 2 people who hate each other and ignore when not hating and try to turn them into lovers. It seems like a cliche but here it was done really bad. For more than 90% of the book the ML bullied, harassed and turned FL into a prisoner and then it turned out; oh, he is just clumsy and innocent and... more>> inexperienced in relationships, that's why he did all that. That all means he loves her! Well, no.. That all means he is an assh...

The characters' thoughts, actions and especially interactions never fail to make me laugh, especially the way MC handles others *cough*Mu Yi*cough*. She is strong-willed, interesting, badass and very smart.

She is certainly dense but not to the point where she is oblivious of everyone's feelings *spoiler on untranslated chapters*
Spoiler

She is just too set on returning to the modern world to consider romantic feelings. However when the time calls to confront it (Suling's feelings for her), she does so in a straightforward manner.

This is the second novel of the original series and my favourite among the entire A Mistaken Marriage Match collection.

Spoiler

The original series tells the story of 3 sisters from Hao Yue whose parents were mu*dered, clearing the way for mercenaries to forcibly transport them to Qiong Yue as gifts to 3 prominent men. As tributes the sisters are downgraded to concubine status, disabling them from ever becoming wives.

While taking shelter from the rain, the sisters decide to disfigure their faces and commit su*cide to escape their fate. The mercenaries attempt to save them. Eldest sister Qing Ling and youngest sister Qing Mo die, (the souls of modern- day Forensic Investigator Zhuo Qing and Captain Gu Yun transmigrate into their bodies), while second sister Qing Feng survives.

The sisters are drugged unconscious the rest of the way, causing a major plot twist which would explain the first part of the title.

Each novel covers one sister's POV:

  1. A Mistaken Marriage Match: Record of Washed Grievances (plot twist)
  2. A Mistaken Marriage Match: A Generation of Military Counselors (youngest sister Qing Mo / Captain Gu Yun)
  3. A Mistaken Marriage Match: Mysteries in the Imperial Harem (plot twist)

So far so good. Many people seem to prefer her best friend in the first novel over her, but Gu Yun is definitely my favorite of the two - possibly because she gets more chances to let her military ability shine. She's funny, stubborn, strict, and more than a little airheaded when it comes to romance.

All the characters are masterfully fleshed out, which I appreciated. My favorite parts are whenever she's training her recruits and the humor inherent.

Hi, this is my first time to make a review.

I LOVE this story much. They are really cute couple. At first, I just hope she will fall in love first to the male main character but in the end, he is the one who fall in love first, hahaha I just remember, and I forgot the chapter, he said that it's karma because he despised woman, he gifted by heaven a violent woman, hahahaha, that's really hilarious because every time he near her, he always get injured.

I really recommended this... more>> story, although the translation is not end, it's worth to waiting. Just wish Nutty-san and L3D-san can finish the translation.

I love MC attitude. She is a trained law enforcer who got transported to this world.

In the ancient world, she uses the strategies, combat knowledge she knows to mold her own squad. She's just badass, enough said. ^_^

Being a woman in ancient military hierarchy is unheard of I guess, but her result speak for itself.

The best strong female MC novel that I've read so far (other than 'The Villainess lives Twice) where you actually see how intelligent and capable the MC is rather than just the author indicating her to be so. Gu Yun commands respect and is levelheaded with a strong sense of justice yet affable and fun. If she's cold, angry and cruel there's a reason unlike some MCs that are made to be so in the name of 'interesting'. Loved the pace of this novel, the strategies parts and overall the... more>> parallel series of strong sisters Though I found her romantic interest in Su Ling baffling as he was clearly an infuriating chauvinist but compared to other male leads I guess he was the most appropriate match for her in terms of power, freedom and safety. Unlike many other stories where respect is commanded by power and bullying, this is a great story where the MC leads by example.

Great story with a kickass MC heroine. I really do like the fact that she didn’t quite conform to the times, and used her knowledge and experience to make her own path in a all man’s world. It’s also quite nice that as tough as nails as she is, she still the same type of cop personality as she was and is all about keeping her squad/team/soldiers safe,... more>> where the current times all the soldiers are basically cannon fodder. Great story. Really can’t wait to see more. I’m also glad that up to Ch 12, it hasn’t been sickenly lovey dovey. Basically, up to ch 12, she has a cat and dog relationship w/ her “husband” and they fight all the time. <<less

This novel is a mess. I think I know why it has such undeserved high rating, by looking at how many translators went into this project from 2014 to 2017-18. Therefore, many rating this novel, for the first half of the story.

Based on the first 1–20 chapters, this novel had high potential, unfortunately author squeezed this novel a lot. With its long chapters, I think it should've had 60 chapters or maybe even more.

The author rushing this novel led to a ton of plot holes, and vague details:

Did the serial killer from the modern world who strangled the women and cut their ten fingers, in the first chapters, get caught?

Although I was disappointed, I still read it till the end because of FL and ML's chemistry. And at least I got to see the overall rushed ending, because of all the translator's good work at the start, but in the end mediocre, into this novel.

I gave this a try because of the reviews and praises for the 'refreshing, strong, cool' MC blah blah. It came as really surprising that in the end, the thing that really makes this novel a bad read for me is this MC.

I was expecting a cool, bad ass transmigrated MC but instead I get a 29 years old woman who apparently has anger issues, hormonal teenager temper, with zero adaptability and flexibility.

Spoiler

Yes first of all, let's start with the fact that this MC is strong and capable. Cares about her friends and soldiers and whatnot. Amazing at fighting and doesn't need to rely on men for protection.

The problem is, for a 29 years old woman (I would call this age MATURE) she has the emotional stability of a cranky teenage girl. She gets angry whenever she sees ML because she thinks ML is a condescending jerk and she always starts the conversation angrily. Once or twice that's fine. But after the umpteenth time?

She is an adult modern woman, transmigrated into an ancient setting. She was supposed to be smart. When I said smart I would expect her to apply her modern skills where it could be apply and still be flexible enough to realize she lives inside the ML'S household, under ML's grace, in a totally foreign time and world. I didn't see the MC trying to find out more about the lives happening around her but instead she forces her modern mindset and modern knowledge on every single matter.

Oh and the constant bickering with the ML? She keeps saying ML is arrogant and overbearing but she, herself, was extremely arrogant. She always said it's the ML making her angry or it was the ML who can't speak nice words. Granted the ML is a block of stone and is not soft gentlemanly but again, a smart adult woman would know when to be flexible. The ML was reasonable, he actually never belittle her and still actually listens to her opinion and ideas. These, I think, shows that ML is a rational person who could be communicated with if only ML wasn't such a temperamental, angry and arrogant little child.

Because people suggested this to be on the same par as, villainess turned the hourglass, and, Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage, I've tried reading it. All I can say is, Just No. It aint the same level ah (with just their personalities, the two are scheming and our MC is impulsive and full of energy and justice ah. Even the former two's ml's were more charismatic and fleshed out. Moreover, Theres not even an internal family strife). First and foremost, why were these three foreign/outsider sisters forcefully given as gifts/brides to people with major power, ah? And as Furen too. We didnt even hear anymore from the og country and family theyre from. With such a marriage alliance/gift. Also, there aint any plotwists shown nor deeper elements in the story if compared to the 2 novels aforementioned above. Even the supernatural martial arts part felt a bit weird (like a failed connection between the cultivation or supernatural kungfu with the normal historical part of the world/society (e.g. the patriarch of the su family looks like part immortal and the things they have like the swords and emblem, so magical and powerful ah)). On another note, the forced feminism in a showed heavy patriarchal community -- the author didn't mix it well as compared to the novels the people compared it to (Some historical novels werent even this excessive (both and separate genres on patriarchal and feminism). Our MC didn't adapt well but planned to bulldoze her way upfront to. Our ML also lacked open communication //facepalm.. Ancient historical even w/ or w/o supernatural genre/elements isn't this excessive). Our MC has low EQ and has a very short fuse (the ML was also nearly the same lvl as her, which made me question a bit how he became the general with his cliche personality. Other people with high standing, I felt that their actions at times do not depict their position) as compared to what she has gone through (her modern methods and sword handling and other actions were considered top notch DX wtf.. Her methods of training were also top notch which made me wonder if she's just a normal member in modern times or something super great) some of our bg characs have little presence, Some people I feel have low IQ than what their position entails, and some charas have suddenly tried to fit for the plot (a lot were like that) which made me a tad disappointed (like our 3 house elders - they aint much flehsed out, and their timing was surprising, like just added for what? Plot?? Even the empress made me feel doubt on palace harem schemes ah (Chapter 36 especially //facepalm their etiquette is abysmal and dialogues so dramatic lol. Made me wonder if the monarch doesnt feel threatened by only having one general with huge power (Isnt it usually divided? Or if the monarch isn't that powerful compared to the general's supernatural power and house/lineage). Bg characs made me feel theyre dull (actions, personality, and words they say) if compared to our modern people, which was sad :< (like the worse they are, the shinier and awesome or OP our modern people feel, which made me a bit doubtful on their achievements on the og world (they couldve been geniuses or world class lvl if they're like that). Another thing is the sequence of events which they could have blended and paced more seamlessly (so many substories jampacked in one story ah) in accordance with the planned number of chapters (shouldve been planned more). At times it didnt feel connected to the overarching plot and was just added (some I felt were possible lil stories that can branch out from this. After an arc ended (some, sloppily done) a new one suddenly appears). Some developments I laughed at how they're a bit (?) dramatic (like the arc with the empress' relatives, made me cringe a bit c.36 onwards).
Lastly, is the evident white is white, and black is black, along with the men is men, and women is women, position //sigh not everything is as is ah, there's the deeper personality in a situation and a human being, and a grey area, ah. Sometimes I feel, especially in discussions, they only reach the surface area or obvious area (until the very end, I read the, women this, men that, and so on and so on //sigh the faceslappings were not even fun to read, I just feel drama like, wtf is up with that month-old son banquet scene near the end of the story).

Nevertheless, some things made me happy and expecting. Which were, the continuous actions and tension (so many substories all throughout. This novel is more action oriented than romance). the cases presented and actual training notes that were described (Which made the situations where the soldiers trained, a bit more realistic. Though, when you compare their training dialogue, I felt a bit doubtful at the general being more soft ah). Also, the confrontations, I felt the action which is a thumbs up
Spoiler

one example is when she was stabbed in the heart and the plan for that made me amazed

[collapse]
... Though in some cases, some situations and characs were abandoned/not fleshed out (feel sorry for the forest girl, ao tian, Su Yu and other characs). Near the end of the story, like 3 chaps left, we get a new fighting scenario instead of a prelude to a closure of a whole novel. Well, near the end, the development assists in opening the sequel to the novel (slightly focusing on the case of the other sister that didn't have much of an appearance. Im slightly shook with the appearance of the master of ao tian like.. Really? //stare at the novel. Im telling ya, characs created for the plot or assistance of the main cast). At least we got closure on the su family legends and she admitted who she truly is from the ML (What's with the ending sentence/thought tho 😂 sksk.. Also, felt that some unanswered things would be unravelled in future sequels).

All in all, the misunderstandings, personalities, and scenes made my temper hurt. I could never get used to an occasional smart person yet slow witted in a worse way. People should be more open minded, listen more, and have an open talk w/ getting riled up too much, aigoo. The focus on planned face slapping/underestimate was a bit forced. Though, if you like a unique, energetic, soldier/tomboy/modern/feminist/confident/short-fused MC, with some cases and soldier training, and action/fight, slow burn romance, you could try reading this :> ❤️ <<less
