“It is said that when a martial exponent reached the highest state of divinity of their arts, they are able to transcend into Celestials, overcoming the limitation of life and death. And as Celestials, they have to overcome seven celestial divinity, Genesis, Enlighten, Emotion, Transverse, Seventh Sense, Crisis and Ascend in order to transcend to the Heavens.”

A Martial Odyssey is an epic quasi-fantasy/wuxia fiction, of a young man Yi Ping as he braved untold dangers in the martial fraternity. The powerful Honor Manor rules the Orthodox Martial Fraternity, yet there are other equally mysterious martial clans that are outside the influence of the orthodox fraternity; like the Eternal Ice Palace, the Virtuous Palace and the Celestial Palace.

When the Celestial Fairy of the Eternal Ice Palace is rumored to pass away, it immediately attracted the attention of numerous exponents that undertake the perilous journey to the Heavenly Mountains for the martial secrets of the Eternal Ice Palace.

A mindless Harem where MC is intolerably s*upid and the girls flock to him like flies to rotting fruit.

This novel should be more of a higher rating, I like the characters, the story is also interesting as well. This is also a novel with a decent Romance which I been looking for quite a while. I really would like this novel to continue. This is just a simple and cliche novel but it is doing pretty well so far. The main character is very dense but there is a reason by it (its sorta like his past wanted to change) and the harem has its reasons to join... more>> them though it will be confusing for a while. Though I did not read the raws there should be a reason all those girls join him. So by everything I see I still give it a 5 just because the story has me hook up and want to know how the relationship will grow in the future. Romance 4/5
Action: 3.6/5
Adventure: 3.8/5 <<less

OMG A Martial Odyssey IS JUST TOO AWESOME!

I love it and I hope it never ends. There’s some comedy, action, romance, and of course there is harem. This is my favorite novel to read right now. You should read this if you’re into Wuxia/Xianxia and or harem with action. You won't regret it. XD

I. Hate. Wimpy MCs. While not the worst, this MC certainly fits the bill. Plus, he is a naive fool. The massive amount of girls involved in the harem could have been fun, if not for the fact that they have little personality beyond how in love they are with the MC.

The action limps lake a lame horse. I'd rather have a starving camel.

For a relatively short wuxia, it drags on for far too long when trying to get through to the end. I finished it because I reached a... more>> point of no return after continuously hoping it would get better only to be disappointed. Essentially, my OCD wouldn't let me stop when the end was in sight.

... Sometimes I hate my OCD. <<less

It's a harem-oriented novel. I recommend reading it if you came for the harem.

The beginning may seems like a tragedy. I was heartbroken when I read the beginning and almost dropped it but I keep reading and everything turns out to be better. Spoiler for what happened:
Spoiler

the first harem member got killed but few chapter later MC quickly found her alive and they reunited

[collapse]

Read it if you came for the harem. Don't read it if you don't like harem.

This is a generic 1970s/1980s “Xianxia”, which is, in my opinion a throwback to the ‘older days’ of Jin Yong, Gu Long, and co (the 4 legendary writers).

If you liked Flying Fox of the Valiant, Demi Gods and Semi Devils (Tien Long Ba Bu), or Condor Heroes Series, you’ll probably like the storytelling.

If you ever wondered “what if there’s another story, where Wai Xiu Bou (from “The Deer and the Cauldron”) isn’t a scheming trickster, but instead a generic heroic seeking youth, and takes a backseat where his wives are... more>> more assertive”, then this is THAT story. Forewarned: the guy has multiple wives and love interests. More than 10. As such, I’m giving a 4/10 for the narratives and storytelling. <<less

It is a typical wuxia story about the martial fraternity in the first part. Many people read it with the wrong expectation because they aren't familiar with what is the wuxia/ martial fraternity. Beyond the plot twists, it is actually a simple story about the MC avenging for the death of his wife.

It is so funny when people complaint about how naive the MC is, in the wrong setting. That is because when people read too much of a cultivation novel, it is always a strong cultivation rank killing a... more>> weaker cultivation rank person. And in those stories, the MC always have a cheat item to win.

But Wuxia is different. It is about steeling the hearts and minds of the fighter with constant battles, and overcoming a stronger opponent with courage. This is wuxia and xianxia. Iron blood and tears is the theme of wuxia story and is common in such a setting. Or else all the other wuxia stories will appear to have naive MCs (Laughs).

It is a martial odyssey and every chapter has a fight in it, because the theme is martial arts. This is a Xianxia story and not a Xuanhuan story. Do not get confused by it because Xianxia stories are rarer than Xuanhuan.

There are no flying and world destroying Xuanhuan feats. Make sure you know what is the genre before reading.

2023 Edit
Omg! I just found out that Great God Pangu or Yi Ping appears in The Good-For-Nothing Cultivator and the story actually has a sequel or new story in The Romantic Cultivator that is based in the Celestial Realm (it has over 1100 chapters too lol). <<less

This story is really good. Many people complain about random plots and no depths in characters but at the very least try to read the story more and you will find out that everything that happend had a reason and as you read more you will see that every character introduced in the story is interlinked and there is a lot to story than it seems at first. It is a story you will understand only if you read atleast 200 or more chapters. All in all the story is... more>> deeper than it seems at first and if you are complaining about random girls falling in love with MC at first sight just read more and you will see that every single girl is connected to MC in past <<less

All characters have their own personalities and quirks which set them apart from each other. Though the main character may seem naive, he actually is (but there is a reason for it) and he kind of grows out of it much later on in the story. The story is very long but advances slowly which is the reason people seems to hate it since they do not see any of the characters develop (since many of them drop it). Volume 1 and 2 is pretty much Wuxia, while Volume 3... more>> is Xianxia. The story is very deep. <<less

While this story isn't really anything new in the harem department, where a guy just trips over flags all day long.. We do get to see some decent fights, and a interesting plot line. While some say it's a flat story and all that, it's mostly due to the fact that it doesn't have any side stories per-say the story is always the main focus.
Do note that it is a harem novel, so we will see a ton of random females fall in love with our MC. Also our... more>> MC is.. Pretty dumb. But meh w/e. Read it if you want to read a rare xianxia harem. <<less

The story is very linear, the characters are super flat and an obnoxiously s*upid MC could be forgiven if the action scenes are exciting.. But they aren't. What started out as an intriguing story quickly becomes a chore to read. I recommend moving on.

I love the innocent and kind hearted MC.I love the way how the girls have a change of personality after coming in contact with our MC. This is the story of yi ping going through tribulations and overcoming the limits of life with the girls he cares for and friends. The best part of the story is that how he changes the view of people around him and set them on right path.

I recommend you to read it and give it a go.I loved this story and hoping for the... more>> next part to be translated. <<less

The prose is decent, the translation is great. However, the material itself is poorly paced. Each relatively short chapter has dizzying twists and turns and reminds me of those Hong Kong manwha which has 18-20 pages each issue, trying to cram in as much action and “plot development” as possible in the pages to keep the reader hooked. The MC can be divisive. He is the typical, noble-hearted hero that hearkens back to the older wuxia stories of Louis Cha’s generation (ie, the 60s). Unfortunately, you will either think he... more>> is either as dumb as a brick or as naive as someone born yesterday, which makes his incredible good luck annoying. He pretty much accepts everything at face value, gets angry and picks a fight at the smallest ‘dishonorable’ thing, even though he is absolutely outclassed and/or previously injured. Unlike other overpowered MC where at least they have the strength to back up their arrogance, Yi Ping reads like someone who is foolhardy, not brave.

I gave up after 20 chapters and this is coming from a guy who gave Martial God Asura 400 chapters before going “meh”. It suffers from the “jumping the shark syndrome”, wherein the author tries to surprise the reader with sudden revelations and relationships between a jumbled mass of quickly introduced characters. Many novels do this, but not many do it every few chapters like this one. <<less

I really tried to like this story, but the MC is too naively idiotic and woman keep falling for him after just meeting him. Random plot devices get thrown in all over the place. Not much is explained in depth about the characters. Everything is flat, from character growth, plot, and action. It's really just a harem building plot with the silliest excuse of action there is.

this is a story about a wimpy and naive MC who have a luck with women began his journey into martial path

REMINDER
this novel is not recomended for those who cant see where the MC always show his Naive and immature personality especially when MC always being protect by his woman and become a busybody toward other ppl problem

this novel has its own unique even though MC always Naive but at the same time MC can solve the problem with its own way and theres always MC harem who completedly... more>> support him in every situation when MC making some mistake that sometime can cover MC naive thinking and act

well theres always a scene too where when MC show his naive act making me laugh so hard

MC have a very strong determined to learn martial skill but at the same time MC have a weak mental state that make MC when in hopeless situation MC completedly easily give up without any resistant and always in a daze state and started to crying and only his harem who always hardly protect him when MC in that state (So you can say theres always many time where MC always became burden for his harem and making his harem always getting injured for protecting MC) <<less

Okey this is an early impression. God damn this novel has so many surprise. Still in early chapter but already fooled with many plot twists, it's a good novel so far and hope it will be for the future.

And for the romance its pretty Good with complicated plot, seriously its pretty hard to follow the stories for me, but after u read more chapter it will become more interesting. The harem is pretty decent but sometime make me sad

Overall it's a good try, just give it a hit, if... more>> u want to read it don't drop it too early if u find it boring or not good. <<less

Not bad and not pretty good

This novel is not bad because there is harem in story (yeah, I like harem story)

and this novel not awesome, because style of author to discribe the world and story are very ordinary. I dont like when story is just fight, fight, fight. I like fight but author didnot discribe when MC train his skill or tempering his body. This novel is just leveling up and we dont know, how MC got level up? Its just fight and we know that MC is leveling... more>> up.

+ Harem
+ Good Character development on MC and His Wives

- Lack of discribe world and story
- MC just leveling up
- lack of discribe level of cultivation <<less

It’s actually a good story... but it’s too mix up... the story itself seems to have a lot of potencial but it also seems like a never ending story, what I mean is that the author just starts to mix things up and creating backup stories... it just doesn’t flow that well

In a few words.... a good overall story that has random plot pops out every now and then to keep the story going....

This novel should have a different page for each volume, or at least the first and the next two.
Why I say this? Basically the first volume can be considered a Wuxia, there're a few things here and there, but the story lacks most supernatural, people train, but for the most part everyone's human and martial artists, nearing the end of first volume and forward, it turns into a Xianxia, characters train to reach immortality following profound philosophical and profound thoughts and meanings.
There's also a huge problem with the... more>> first volume, around chapter 40 and for a while, the story can only be considered terrible, it turns really hard to read through, this part of the volume's, honestly, a big fog in my memory I almost skipped the chapters till it was more bearable.
The story's basically the travels of a naive and pure fellow martial artists and his unnatural luck with the ladies,
Spoiler

This is later on explained as a big part of the story

[collapse]
. If you hate the Harem genre and dumb main characters, you won't like this story, you won't enjoy most of it, and even when later on the character does develop, it may be too far ahead for you.
First volume 2 or 3 stars, Second and Third 3 to 4 stars. <<less
