This is kind of mean, but I don't like the MC. I remember some Japanese comedians doing a video special about going after a girl who is "special" and she acted in some ways like this girl. Like I guess she's a little bit special in the way she listens to cartoon music as an adult, has a slight bend to her hair, and runs when she should be walking, but is that a "good" special? You could say that's up to the ml, but with his perspective you can... more>> only assume that his love drive happened to short circuit when they met, which is the only reason he fell in love with her at first sight. He's like "she's the ugliest woman I've seen in years and I want to marry her."

You know all those qt novels where the MC gets revenge for some sort of wronged side character? This girl's personality would be a prime candidate for a white lotus antagonist in that type of novel. Her main attraction to the ML seems to be that other people find him attractive and interesting and it's kind of shallow for me. <<less

The first half of the story led me to suspect that it should've been labelled as Shoujo instead of Josei.

I've never encountered such a tooth-rottingly perfect ML in non-Shoujo works.

Not to mention, the author took the trouble of describing his heart-stopping, traffic-accident-causing appearance at least once per chapter.

For example, at one point the MC becomes troubled and sad. The author wrote: 'If an actress was sad on set, he would only say, "You are being unsightly."' But here he comforts her and tells her: "you never let me down."

You can call me cynical, but the first thing I thought when I read this was... When in the world did the ML have any expectations in the first place? UNLIKE actresses on set who are basically employees at work, the MC hasn't had a chance to "let him down" because he's literally never asked anything of her (just like some random passerby: zero expectations = zero failure).

This scene would have been a lot more moving if the compliment actually meant something.

Instead, we get some cheesy lines that seem meaningful on the surface, but have zero substance once the reader stops to think about it.

A ton of the scenes in the beginning are like this, which only highlights how the ML fell for the MC fast because she was one of the only women he had ever been sexually attracted to.

What a moving and meaningful romance! /s

So if you like fluff, pampering without limits, love/lust-at-first-sight, I recommend it.

It's completely baffling why the ML pops up to treat the MC like she's his utterly perfect princess. They have no meaningful interactions (after a few random & short encounters, and no, she didn't save his life or his dog) but somehow the ML acts like she's his benefactor of 9 lifetimes before even getting to know each other.

If you're like me, and would get bored of that stuff quickly, you can try to get through the first part ASAP to give the second half a chance.

In the second half, the pacing does pick up a bit and there are a bit more character development and descriptions of more interesting scenes.

Mo Bao Fei Bao and Gu Man are a good choice if you like this style (though arguably, those author's stories are better written).

The translation is really good for this book, much appreciation to the translator for their hard work bringing us this story. <<less

So far, so good. It could be said that it's one of the best novel I've read. I love how the feelings and relationships are developed.

For Yi Ran, I love that she doesn't let anyone look down on her. It's tiring to have naive and damsel in distress types of FLs. I also like that she has a bright personality complementing that of the ML's.

As for Gu Tingchuan, I love how he's very decisive with things and he's very considerate of his wife. Hmm, how to explain this? He doesn't... more>> let any other person to create petty misunderstandings. He's adamant to prove that their marriage is just between them only - no one should get in. I think he also doesn't do things half-heartedly. Looking forward as to how he's going to completely let her immerse in his world. ❤❤ <<less

Everyone saying that this novel is light is absolutely correct. This novel is light af but it does have a plot and a couple rounds of face slapping that is standard for entertainment based novels. I literally binged read it in 3 hours. I was hooked. Sometimes you don't need a novel full of tricks and schemes. A simple and straight forward one like this is like a breath of fresh air. This novel is truly a hidden gem.

The ML, Gu Tingchuan, is refreshingly down to earth. He is not... more>> over bearing or anything like other CEOs in entertainment novels. The MC, Yi Ran, is not in the entertainment business at all. She's a teacher. Gu Tingchuan and Yi Ran's love is not epic and they don't have to jump through hoops to be together. But this kind of love is one I want.

Sometimes you just meet someone and just click. That's exactly what happened with our characters. It doesn't mean that they didn't work on their marriage. They had to actively work on their communication, clear up misunderstandings and on how to compromise with one another. I love the character growth of this couple. I feel that this novel accurately portrays a marriage and the problems a married couple might face. It's not always sunshine and rainbows.

Not my cup of tea.

First of all, it is hard to root for a love story when it's shoved down your throat how special the leads are and you can't feel it.

... more>> I cannot feel a connection to both of them and there is little to no substance in their interaction. Even their dialogues are so out there. Like, it's meant to be deep and meaningful but ugh, give us a background why this is supposed to be meaningful maybe?

I don't like stories where the author describes something instead of showing it, but here, uhm, the description and dialogues are so disconnected I'm getting whiplash. Most of the time I am lost what is happening?

Personality-wise, MC doesn't seem to have it..? How am I supposed to root for her, she's so bland.

And then everyone gravitates towards her somehow, is it because she's pretty? Isn't that shallow? <<less

Though it was a simple romantic story with a little drama, it's worth reading.

The MC is so lovable that I find her to be one of my favorite lead female characters in a webnovel. No, she's not perfect, but she's not too arrogant or to meek either.

The romance can be a bit too fluffy and teeth achingly sweet. That's were my biggest gripe comes from. It's so sweet at times it's boring to read.

But the slightly smutty bits make up for it ?

The translation was good.

Overall, nice!

Lol, this novel got me feeling weird. It has this weird undercurrent of 'even if you treat me like shit, it's fine because you're hot'. Feels like I'm on wattpad. Anyway, I had to stop here because the novel is trying to portray the relationship as love but all I see is lust.

The ML found a convenient fleshlight out in the wild and is enjoying it as much as he can. That might be harsh but it's all I'm getting. It probably gets better but I'm not interested enough to... more>> keep reading.

But to be fair, I was going into this very hesitant as I read the lower reviews & I will say that unlike them, I actually do not think there was "love at first sight" going on at all. I don't really know how people came to that conclusion.

However, I do think it's kind of strange that he's particularly sexually attracted to her? But as well, from what I'm reading, it doesn't seem like he's never had any experience s*xual before her. So I don't particularly think she's super special... more>> to that extent either for him. I know he finds her attractive compared to "beautiful models etc." But I do think that's fair. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all. Maybe her plainness (in personality) is really comfortable and attractive to him.

I don't really have too much of a suspension of belief of how this took place (their meeting, marriage etc.) because I do think being a celebrity, an "ordinary" person's thoughts may seem different because their circles are so different - it could be refreshing for him.

Ok, so getting the fact that I can understand all of that out of the way, (also maybe they just have a lot of attraction to each other?) there's no actual chemistry I feel between at all. I just don't. I think it's good the ML is not perfect and that the MC is not like op amazing (as of right now at least, but I don't think the MC should be dull either... And also as cheesy as some lines are (not too terrible) I don't think the ML is very romantic. I also just don't find their relationship interesting.

I don't know, I can't put my finger on it but it's quite cut and dry. I don't not recommend this because the characters aren't technically bad.. at all but I don't recommend this personally either.

Hmm it just doesn't feel like they have any reason to get along. The MC is also quite dull so it's not like compelling either.

I could only recommend this for people who want a over thoughtful but slightly feelingless yet possibly slow burning romance (?) - personally dunno about the romance but thats what all the positive reviews say it is haha. So... Yeah. <<less

The romance in this is very realistic and very sweet. When reading most of the chinese romance novels out there, you know that the possibility of the relationship portrayed happening in real life is almost zero but, the relationship we get to know in this novel is absolutely sustainable and the ideal kind of relationship you can find in real life. Honestly I want a relationship like that too. Overall, it was a very good read and the translation pretty good too. And can I say one thing? The characters... more>> communicate people!! From most of the ratings I think this story is overrated.

It's too plain. I had some expectations based on synopsis and reviews but I realised it little late that not all top rating books are good.

There's no chemistry between the characters and some scenes felt rushed, it left me thinking why did the author even include this scene.

As for the marriage part, I understand ML scandals was getting out of hand and he wanted to end it. But MC had no reason to agree for a loveless marriage. I get... more>> that, she really wanted to get married and lead a good life. But isn't this loveless marriage against that. I didn't understand her reason of marrying him.

Even though it was bland I continued but the disappointment only continued. Like after the marriage...

I thought he was quite considerate like how he took time to show around the house and have some chat and wine with her to ease her nervousness and make her feel more comfortable. They even did the 'deed' so I was like 'okay this might pick the pace and be more fluff later' BUT NO! He straight out left her on their wedding morning like a one-night stand without informing anything and never contacted her for nearly a month except a single text. Later he got sick and didn't bother to inform her as if she was nothing but then had the guts to kiss her in hospital. Dude what do you think she is?!

Both MC and ML are really not my cup of tea. Boring and quite irritable characters.

I stopped at chapter 15. It's getting hard for me to read, mainly because of my preferences. I'm really uncomfortable reading novels where the MC suffers through injustices and just perseveres through it. I hate it. The MC just lets these people step all over her. The people around her should treat her better, and she should have a stronger stand when facing this injustices. The MC's character is too weak.

After reading this novel I feel like I've learned something. Purity of children. Patients in a marriage. Sacrifices for love, and lots more. Without being too dramatic, too fluffy or too sad. It made me feel a lot of emotions.

The start was a bit boring and frustrating for someone like me who doesn't believe in love, but as our characters went through growth together and learned things it made me wonder that maybe I too can fall in love and have a successful marriage one day.

I feel dumb thinking this... more>> after reading just 70 chapters of a book but....

Anyway, Thank you to our wonderful Translator. ❤

Recommended if you want a slow paced romance or just want to be more in touch with different type of human emotions. ❤ <<less

There is nothing else I could say besides I love this. This is just so good. This type of simple & mature and heartwarming romance genre is truly my type. I love the fact that our leads came from different worlds (tho a bit cliché with the rich-guy-simple-girl trope) but were still effectively expressing their own individuality & compromising things for their relationship. I like this kind of mature and steady relationship growth story, not too much drama and unreasonable, exaggerated events happening but touches more on close to realistic... more>> events. I love the characters' growth especially the male lead's, it was also heartwarming this novel also focused on achieving personal dreams whilst not sacrificing love but carefully compromising for the middle ground.

Truly a satisfying read. 10/10 <<less

It has such a beautiful serentic tone of writing, litreally my favorite. I have read this book twice and each time I fell in love with writing/translation even more.

The starting plot was although messy but soon our protagonist worked eachother differences out and found a way to fall in love deeply and that is just sooooo *heart heart*

Nothing exciting going on. It's a slice of life type, the story slowly unfold from the moment of how they met.

I like that it is a believable story. Their circumstances, their personality, the situation - feels believable & highly possible to be happening now.

If you are looking for something relaxing, positive & different in a good way, you need to read this.

The story is just as the name suggests... peacefull and calm, however lovely.

It gets better chapter by chapter. I love how every character and relationships grow and how she knows her value.

Although it felt draggy at the later parts, I’m still giving this a five because I’m just so tired of black-belly, cold ML’s. Love the couple growth on this one and somewhat realistic couple issues. Ending and epilogue was good, but I’m too greedy for more little bun fluff haha.

Also kudos for translator for doing a good job. Five stars is all because of you. ^^

The general plot of the story was quite expected. However, compared to the other similar stories or similar plot scenario, this was much more realistic and unfiltered. It doesn’t move into something all of the sudden, and there were steps that the main characters walked through before they reached were they were. Great read. Good binge.
