A False Confession

I confess. I couldn’t do it while sober so I had taken a shot of liquid courage.

“I like you.”

“Why?”

“I just like everything about you.”

“… I don’t understand.”

Something’s strange. His voice is deeper, his height slightly different, and his physique even more so. In fact, after a closer look, even his hair colour, which reflects the moonlight, is different — this is crazy. It’s someone else, and is none other than Duke Cabel Willard who’s known as the ‘Grim Reaper’ of the battlefields!

“Cabel.”

“… Excuse me?”

“From now on, don’t refer to me using strange titles. Call me by name instead.”

The corners of his lips, which were always frozen stiff, curve into a smile. It seems like he would immediately kill me if the truth of my false confession was brought to light.

Novel not recommended to read.

Many issues with this novel but it all boils down to: MC is a scumbag girl who isn’t honest with anyone. Even after she has a chance to honestly talk to the two men interested in her, she doesn’t want to explain anything and wastes lots of time.

When one guy is clearly a scumbag, MC still teeters back and forth simply due to her own prejudice. There’s a whole lot of the story that is just Mc’s nervous mental condition. MC is a weak loser who... more>> relies on her friend to carry her through human relationships and later the two love interests.

Also, the accidental confession takes quite some time to occur, and then MC is simply a coward for a large portion of the rest of the novel. MC also is continually in harm’s way due to the sheer incompetence of all the people involved in combat. Finally, there doesn’t seem to be much point to her coming from the modern world except for her being scared by actual combat. Mediocre writing for a mediocre main character girl. -900Tril/10 Simply bad.

P.S. All MC had to do was to literally explain to ML her issues but nope. Dragged out for over 30 chapters of complete nonsense. Also, if she really wanted to just hide, how could she even consider the royal family. Sigh, so incredibly dumb. <<less

Enjoyable to read to the point that I read all the chapters in 1 seating. I like the FL because she is so true to herself and somehow I can relate to her (I hate being in a war and see all the dead/injured person). I can also feel 2nd hand embarrassment coming from her though. 😂

The limited 1st person pov isn't usually my cup of tea but this story's proven enjoyable so far, even if the heroine is written as a mix of several (overused) tropes & the male leads are pretty two-dimensional (at least so far). Also, for a Korean light novel, it has less drama and more comedy than I'd expected - another plus.

I'd rate it a 3.5 stars for the actual content (a bit bland, a bit repetitive but overall relaxing) but add 1 star just for the translation. The translator's done... more>> a very good job at bridging the gap between the text's implied meaning (in Korean) and its English equivalent. Kudos. <<less

MC is a f*cking idiot at first and it's precisely because MC is a horrible idiot that everything feels so real.

It's a snail's pace plot, so if you don't have the patience, don't even bother reading it.

MC at first gives tremendous courage but if you manage to get past that phase in which she is a complete idiot, I congratulate you; she learns to communicate and above all: she learns the language of emotionally and socially constipated emos (it's worth a lot).

I'm going to say that MC was me at... more>> some point and it does exasperate because it feels like I'm looking at that little me and it makes me want to hit him on the head to make him reconsider HAHAHA.

But hey, it is certainly not a novel for everyone but I would not say that I absolutely do not recommend it. In the end you can see the change in attitude and thinking she has, and her reasons for being a complete coward at the beginning are justified, not all reincarnated protagonists should be empowered and I liked that, it feels human. <<less
