A Demon Lord’s Tale: Dungeons, Monster Girls, and Heartwarming Bliss

Description

One day, I woke up only find out that I’d become a Demon Lord, an individual responsible for protecting a dungeon. The world I’d been spirited away to was one filled with violence. Gigantic monsters wandered through it and competed with each other each and every day for the right to survive. I had no choice but to strengthen my dungeon’s defenses in hopes of living another day—or at least that was what I’d thought. For some odd reason, I instead ended up spending my days in relaxation and bliss.

This is Yuki’s story, my story. It tells the tale of how I spent my days after settling down in a dungeon with a self indulgent, “supreme” dragon girl and a young vampire.

I was a person that didnt like the light novels but for me this one that must be readed since the manga is quite low pace and taking too much I just couldn't resist to know how far the story is going and I'm quite pleased with it all the characters have a nice develop and I feel is a good isekai

It's one of the best story for first few chapter until it became harem thingy. If you fine with that everything else seems to be OK though

If U want a slow life with bit humour action and some more other spices it's worth reading. Cringyness of the MC how U define this novel leaving the fact beside slice of life . His character is absolute cringy to core. At first some might find it hard to read due to all his common use of slang but it literally common and hard to change and we dnt mind it rather thats what one of the fun part. And there lot more action, slice of life and some... more>> diabetes inducing moments

Btw iam not sure should I call it cringy real bad at English.. <<less

I really love how slice of life in this novel, more than any slice of live japanese novel I had read before. The interaction is interesting and I like how Lefi is so beautiful.

I already read the translated novel about 20 chapters, before I stop and read the manga. I really like the manga, is more vivid than the novel.

But when I comeback to read the translated novel from the beginning, I feel Yuki character is become crude more and more because the translation, and I hate it. Is okay... more>> in the beginning, I can endure it and keep reading. But is more and more become unbearable, until I cant get that crude feeling from my thinking, and I feel the novel become low leveled, and cant continue reading with my beginning feeling.

I dont know if this because I am not native english speaker or not. But I really hate it. <<less

This is my first time writing a review on this site and I didn't read this as much as the other reviewers have so take my words with a grain of salt. I'm not going to go in-depth with anything I'm just going to express what I was feeling while reading this.

It's boring. Like, I really want to enjoy it but it just feels like nothing happens? There's no drive to the series whatsoever, he wants to build a castle but so far that's basically the closest thing we have... more>> to any sort of goal. And like a story doesn't have to have a clear goal in sight but I'd like to see it go in SOME direction. I've never read a story before this where so much happens but it feels like nothing happens. And like they kinda introduce some things when this kingdom gets upity and tries to attack them but its handled in a single chapter. I mean I'm sure more will happen but idk. If I had to state my biggest problem in a single sentence it's that; the story doesn't have a structure. It feels like the author is just writing sh*t as he/she goes along, which is fine if you find it entertaining enough, but unfortunately, I don't so it just feels frustrating.

Another thing I was going to complain about was there were no stakes from the beginning but I realized that would be dumb. When someone watches or reads a series with an OP MC they go in not wanting stakes. They want to see a bad a*s f*ck sh*t up with little to no resistance. No one watches one punch man to see a fight with high stakes. They watch it for the execution, how entertaining it is, how satisfying it is to see them mow down everything and see them win. A lot of the times, for me anyway, it's to see the reaction of supporting characters or the enemy they're fighting.

But, I feel anyway, that this series fails in that execution. I'm not entertained at all when he's fighting, it just feels edgy, like I'm watching the scene in SOA where Kirito is healing faster than he's taking damage. But even in that scene, it was interesting to see the girl's reaction when she realized how strong he was. But in this series, all the characters are well aware of how strong he is and it's just status quo. It just feels empty, edgy and just not entertaining at all, not satisfying.

I like the characters themselves but the interactions with each other are so incredibly painful. It like I'm reading the dialogue from an amateur royal road novel, it's so fake and bad and makes me cringe. I'm sure a large part of this, however, is the way the translators are phrasing things in English. A particular line I recall is "Dayum she cray-cray." and it made me physically ill reading it. The series is FILLED with this kind of dialogue and this is basically how the main character speaks 24/7 and it would be so much better if it wasn't. It's like the d*mn meme commercials put out by corporations or when characters in sitcoms or movies try to use "hip and cool" young people lingo. It's feels clearly written by people who don't actually understand the lingo and they just know the basics of how it's used and thought putting it in would relate to the youths.

I thought I could at least get behind the romance as I'm a sucker for cheesy romance but even that just felt boring. Tho I'm sure a lot of that is the dialogue.

Anyway, this is just my feelings and keep in mind I only got to chapter 48 so check out some reviews of people who read this for much longer as perhaps it gets better. <<less

I like this novel cause of it's slice of life and not so serious story. It's good for passing time if you have no other novels to read, I guess. Do take note that the MC can be annoying and sometimes makes you think that he has a screw lost in his head, but it can be tolerated because of it's cute characters.

Pretty standard slice of life isekai in terms of world building and characters, the writing itself is above average and the translation is good.

Recommended if you're looking for something of this genre, but it's nothing particularly amazing

Not many chapters released, so no idea how it'll end up. For now it's good, and I would had continuted reading if there were more chapters.

Overall I got a vibe of this novel being a rather slow-paced with lots of fluff and slice of life. If so then not my cup of tea.

I put off reading this for a long time because of the "slice of life" tag. I find that genre to be tedious and boring, filled with a bunch of pointless drivel about food and lacking any conflict or plot. So I had low expectations for this when I started despite the good rating it has here.

Surprisingly, it is actually pretty interesting, and I don't think the Slice of Life tag really belongs here, at least up to the point I've read so far. The main character isn't the bland... more>> meek wet rag that so many Japanese protagonists are. He stands out quite a bit, and in a good way too. It also thankfully doesn't seem to be a harem so far, with the MC having one person he is in a relationship with and other girls he sees as daughters.

And I have to mention the translation quality- It is really good. I love the weird out of place language (ebonics?) that are the MC's thoughts, and there is hardly a single error I can recall. It's probably the best translation I have seen in a while, comparable to "Death Mage who doesn't want a Fourth time" <<less

The story is ok if u are into slice of life and not need logical plot. Not suit my taste tho, to me it is kinda lame. The magic theory in this story is lame and lack of effort (suit the genre tho). The behavior of characters is illogical so I drop it at the very early beginning.

And why the dragon must be a loli 😩

its one of those novels that get a weird taste on your mouth. MC is interesting and the quirky nature of the plot is interesting and takes you many different places. Sadly its one of those its hard to go back to because its more of a cliche than a well written novel

Note: I am planning to update this later once I get farther into the story but here is my opinion on what I have seen so far.

Its a very chill story without a whole lot of intense stuff going on. Even though there is action its quickly solved so it isnt really something to make you feel tense.

The character is well... like a lot of Isekai characters, I guess? He just becomes very strong and gains a harem. Its pretty cookie cutter but it doesnt bother me in the slightest... more>> since I dont really think that kinda character is a bad thing. Just not the most original (but I mean besides, Normal Strength, Weak Strength, and OP Strength, there isnt really anything you can do).

One thing though is that the MC I belive is not in his teens as near the beginning he mentioned something that teenagers would do (so I dont think he was talking about himself). However, he really does talk like a teenager, saying words like "Finna" which I dont hear really from any adult. Its just kinda makes me confused at the wording and overall confused at why that kinda wording was used. It may be due to the translator but I felt like that was worth mentioning.

Another thing is, there is a lot of l*li's in this book. From the point I am at its 6-8 l*lis that live with the MC (4 of them are ghosts so idk if you consider that but still) and the MC continues to mention that he isnt a l*licon. I won't say he is one but all I will say is that the author has decided to put in quite a lot of small young girls (The dragon is a small girl but its another one of those cases where they are 1000s of years old so however you want to look at that).

However, I really did enjoy this story. It is a fun read and you dont really read it for a full indepth story that will fill you with emotions and make you cry from the writing but one that you kinda just sit on the sofa and just read the book. Its just him doing his own thing living his life. Doesnt really have a purpose other than to live his own life.

Anyhow, 4/5 for me due to the whole talking like a teenager (ex. "Finna") and the l*li harem despite not saying he is one (maybe for humor but they just keep coming so its like a repeated joke). Those are the reasons for my 1 star off, otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and plan to read it more.

Update (9/10/2020) - Reached c122

Nothing much to note other than it still being good other than some parts just kinda not enjoying to read but I mean that happens in a lot of books so not a complaint. Although the MC still does talk like he is some teenager with fairly unusual wording. Also, spoiler for his harem,

Spoiler

Yea so its all l*lis. At the point where I am, I havent seen 1 girl with a body of an adult interested in him with affection. Sure they may not actually be 12 but still the bodies of them all are l*lis. Here is what I think his harem is so far.

  • Dragon L*li
  • Vampire L*li
  • Slime L*li
  • 2 Beastkin L*lis (Not quite sure how old they are but from all the other cases they would most likely be young as well)
  • 3 Wraith L*lis
  • The Hero L*li (which I dont know if it is part of the harem but yea)
  • The Princess L*li (Again not sure if its affection but kinda seemed that way to me)
  • and finally, the Intelligent Sword L*li (so yea his sword turns into a loli apart of his harem lmao)

It really is a heartwarming story. The growth of the protogonist and the relations around him is really entertaining. Though not the focus, the romance elements are sweet and nice to read. It's depicted well in manga as well

Beautiful. That is how I can best describe this. MC is strong but not arrogant to think he's top of the food web but also not weak minded enough to think anybody can beat him. The love interests are likable and feel warm fuzzy feelings while not just being s*upid head over heels for the MC. The other family members are just as lovable as they are typically children who just do silly stuff. 10/10 wish there were more Novels like this.

Don't know if the translator or the editor is right or the Author that do wrong. You can make it funny even if it's a normal conversation, but make it like a conversation text that is to short to begin with then it's not funny it's irritating,

Cute reincarnation power trip harem done well. I had to mentally replace some of the repetitive descriptions and sayings such as 'Hella' and 'God damn' but overall the story is just fine. It's worthy of your time if you're interested.

Generic Isekai, not too bad or too good, a decent ones and nice to read.

The MC truly abandon his humanity and live like a demon, that was supposed to be, though. But instead, he got loli-ness and pretty comfy character. The setting itself like a dungeon maker, setting traps, making rooms, summoning servant or so. While the crisis chapter was rather short, almost the main part is his everyday live and lack of thrill. But I still got a good laugh on this.
