After being betrayed by a butler and her nanny, whom she’d trusted wholeheartedly, Emma wandered down a forest trail on a stormy night to avoid them and the lurking animals.

She stumbled upon a magnificent mansion and bravely knocked on the large wooden door of the mysterious, secretive place. After a few minutes, a man opened the door.

“Hello. I am Emma. Emma Herman,” she said shakily and then begged, “Please! Save me, please! I will do anything.” Emma’s life was about to be flipped upside down.

“Hello, Emma. Has something happened to you?” he asked. The man she had thought to be the owner of the mansion, was Irvin Van Wert, the successor of Count Van Wert. “Don’t run away from me without my permission. Because you belong to me now!”

“So, you don’t have anything to do with the people I mentioned, right?”

“Right,” Emma nodded rapidly, expecting the misunderstanding and suspicion to be resolved.

“I see. So this isn’t a trap,” the man oddly mumbled as he stared at Emma and slowly bent his body down lower. Then, he put his lips closer to her ear and said, “If so, you’re just coming by perchance then?”

The low voice, while fascinating, was frightening enough to hurt Emma’s eardrum and she meekly replied, “Yes.”

For a story with "cruel beast" in the title, there is a surprising lack of our cruel beast. Every time he's present, all he and Emma do is have s*x. And maybe someone will die by his hands, I dunno.

But honestly, he's constantly gone doing his duty as a knight. And then I guess when the author wants to write more smut, Irvan is back... but not for long.

Something about the smut... the story grinds to a halt when any smut scene begins. The first smut scene was great... until... more>> it went on for multiple parts. I was trying to figure out how much of it was left for the story to continue. They literally only stopped because the door to the cabin swung open. Then we got more plot.

Also, something I will mention about these multipart smut scenes... someone is always interrupting them? When the scene is described in detail, there is literally someone bursting through their door or knocking to get their attention or something. It's kind of annoying to read?

And then when Irvan is gone, Emma has to fend herself from Irvan's stepmother. But her decisions really don't make sense to me?

Take for example the most recent dinner scene I've finished (you'd be surprised how much drama of this story happens during dinner banquets btw).

irvan gave Emma permission to stay at loyal servant (?) Baron Berne's place. As Emma is about to board the carriage, Karina (the stepmom) tells Emma she has to go to dinner before leaving the estate. Emma feels forced to obey since she's a commoner or something. Honestly, I would've just boarded the carriage. It's not like Emma would have forgotten what happened at the other dinner. And it's not like Karina will lose face just to chase you down. And when Irvan is present, there's not much Karina can do. So why didn't Emma just slight Karina and leave and not come back until Irvan was there?

oh! Also, at that dinner Karina had some weird plan to use alcohol to make Emma lose face? The first plan was to make Emma drunk so she had a knight pour too much wine. Emma would have accidentally on purpose spilled it. Karina saw through that plan and had this knight drink it and pour a more reasonable response. The problem is that cup has his spit in it. Why didn't Emma say anything? Also why is she drinking with only boys? Quite literally I would have asked for a clean cup because I'm not too keen on swapping spit with a stranger. I'd have asked to drink with some young ladies my age instead of young men

But nope, Emma is like "I'd rather learn from a senior noble. Lady Karina, pleaseeee" and Karina is like whatever and gives her wine spiked with an aphrodisiac. And all these knights are clamoring around Emma bc as you can tell, now the plan has come to assault and noncon. Literally Emma could have asked for those handmaidens to escort her. In fact after Emma cures herself with her wicked plant knowledge, she latched onto some older lady to avoid the knights... so why didn't she do that in the first place? Just completely shut those knights down by attaching herself to women.

just... reading this story makes me unreasonably angry sometimes but then the smut will come and save me from the nonsense... but then the smut will last wayyy too long until they stop naturally or are literally interrupted.

Actually, now I want to change my rating to two stars after writing all this. There are better smut stories to read. Where the male lead doesn't disappear for the FL to have drama and only reappears for smut and to get angry on female lead's behalf before disappearing again.

On the bright side though, the translation is pretty good. A few typos here and there but very readable. So maybe I'll keep that extra star for the translation team. Love them. But this story is kinda garbage.

edit: I'm actually getting annoyed with this bizarre Luphenyl tea subplot. Can someone please get some for her? Every time she mentions it (I'm at ch 52 now), I feel like shaking her.

For real, just have a meaningful convo you two 🤦‍♀️ it's just snu snu after snu snu within a day of meeting, loads of dead people and bland villains seasoned with the fl's pharmaceutical knowledge.

Wow! I don't know where this story is going but I'm 100% here for it! And the S*x scenes are A+++. Super h**ny. I love how the FL wants it just as much or almost more than the ML. Hahaha.

The FL is amazing. I know some people think she's weak (probably bc she doesn't fight or tell the ppl she doesn't like to f off) but I love how realistic she is. She's smart and isn't rude. Maybe because she acts exactly how I would if I were in her... more>> situation, I really connected with her.

Also, can I just give a shout out to how cute the ML and FL are together! Like the ML started off all cold and typical ice man personality, but I ADORED how when they got close he was super teasing and always laughing and joking with the FL. I just found their chemistry super sweet.

Like I said, I'm not exactly sure where the story is going so taking a couple points off for that, but otherwise I'm super enjoying this. Definitely one of my top novels at the moment.

This story is filled with mystery and romance and I am loving this because the ML is pretty much a catch and the FL is smart and kind. Cant wait for more chapters. Also the translation is great.

I like the mystery~ I think it lacked a bit of detail in regards to the FL and ML. But whatever. Still seems like a nice story with some secrets to be revealed

it was quite good I loved the relationship of the FL and ML

ML was very good to FL and he loved her and the FL loved the ML and helped him a lot with the apothecary skills.

In the end we have a nice Happy ending and the villains got what they deserved

though because of monsters / work/ villains plot ML had to leave for few days and he was absent more than 10 chapters in those chapters FL almost r*ped, author could have handle it better in my opinion.

There was one comment who's so dumb. They took the novel title in literal sense. Never heard of a metaphor?

because of his talent and undefeated strength when it comes to fighting. Does not matter if its an animal (wolf and werewolf) or human tr*sh (IFYWIM).

And because of it too, he was labelled as a cruel person. Again, not because he really is cruel but he basically doesn't give two f*cks about anyone. If it annoys him, he just cut them off (which I kinda get cuz politics sometimes needs some concessions for appearance purpose that we know even IRL is a common practice. So basically cutting/killing anyone off even if they do deserve it is a bit cruel).

Anyway, he's a beast too ofc to FL *winks*. I love it tbh. FL isn't dumb (she's naive tho initially but when reality slaps her, she uses her brain unlike some FL's on other novels). She isn't a damsel in distress. She does whatever she can to overcome things.

ML is basically Hugo Taran (from Lucia) but unlike Hugo (whose my #1 ML out of all),

I took a brownie point off Irvin as Emma came close getting r*ped. Hugo wouldn't have let that happen. Granted Irvin has a mole in his castle to report things, what happens then if he arrived too late?? Irvin already knows there's something wrong with Karina but he let it be and didn't even put any knight on Emma. Hugo gave Lucia a knight on the otherhand, who saved her when she was about to get r*ped too. Anyway, otherwise, ML takes the same stance as Hugo which is cut off annoying shits and tr*sh, return their transgressions twice as much damage than they did. I felt satisfied on Irvin's revenge.

The first 10 chapters are boring, but when the snu snu scene starts, it's already fun to read.

FL looks smart. I like FL racking her brains to avoid ML uncle. That part was very tense, it felt like I panicked too because no one was on FL's side. Moreover, ML seems useless because it only comes to FL when he wants to 'do it'.

I hope ML pays more attention to FL's security when he's not around
