THIS STORY IS GOLD.

That's all you gotta know. Just know this story was really good and you need to read this because not reading means that you're missing out.

The story was really well written with a very good translation too. When I'm reading I kept having this illusion that I'm actually seeing a real person and not a character. This illusion is what I think made the story fascinating.

The character was written as realistic as possible that when I'm reading I feel like I'm not reading a novel, but following... more>> a person with their life. I saw their ups and downs, their trauma and fear, saw their growth, and saw them slowly falling in love.

Spoiler

That's also why, I think, when I read the climax of the story, I can feel my heart breaking into pieces together with them. I cried more than once and until the end of the story, my tears still didn't stop. Because I have this fleeting feeling, that they're not just a character inside a novel, but a real person living in a real world. One of the sad thing is, the fact that what happened in this story can also happened in real life. With how the parents against their child inside a homos*xual relationship and forcibly break them apart. What I read in this novel as a story, may be a reality in another person life. And in real life, there can also be a situation when they don't get their happy ending.

[collapse]

By the way, the summary didn't give the novel justice. The ML have reasons and I think the reason was quite justified. Also, he isn't as homophobic as I expect him to be. He's pretty accepting actually.

In conclusion, this story is great. You have to read it. <<less

If you decide to not read this novel because of the synopsis and their 'brotherly relationship', you will miss out on a true gem. I've read plenty of danmei before and I'm quite immune to angst, but nothing had ever made me cry like moumou did. This is such a solid novel, from the writing, the story flow, and the characterizations. There are many cute and funny moments, but I will never forget how this book makes me feel like my heart was about to be squeezed out of my... more>> chest. I would recommend this story to everyone who wants a nice balance between sweet & bitter. Also kudos to qingtranslates for providing such a high quality translation! <<less

Please I beg you to read this. The summary do not give this story the respect it deserves at all. It's a great and quite realistic story that took place in high school up until working. I have a very fun time reading and boy do I cried so badly. I have read sadder stories but this one hits differently bcs of how realistic it felt. I can't help but hate certain characters but at the same time understand them. From the bottom of my heart, I really thank the... more>> translator for allowing me to read such a memorable story <3 <<less

Sheng wang and jiang tian are two people who I'm going to be carrying around in my heart after finishing this book... thats how good the characterisation and depth of this novel is.

I adore their story.. be it their academic journey, the beginning of their love, the heartache, the separation and the heartwarming reunion.

I knew when I started reading and there were only a couple of translated chapters that I'm gonna cry.. and I did, but I also laughed a lot.

This story is so real and the way it is... more>> written was a very novel experience. It felt like day by day I was also growing up with them.

The best part is of course the strong love of 2 teenagers who are unaccustomed to lasting relationships with the people around them but by happenstance find their lifetime love when they are 17.

Please do read this novel. Its amazing and will be a lasting experience that you can savor. It will make you remember your school days, your first love and bring you great happiness. <<less

I write this as my first ever review on this website at 3:25am the day after the translation finished to warn potentially on-the fence readers: do not miss out on Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian because you will not chance upon a story as warm and genuine in this genre again.

Growing up in single parent households (MC with a workaholic father and ML, raised essentially from small contributions by side characters comprising a found family), we focus on two teenagers unused to forming deep, permanent, anchoring connections. I'm not usually... more>> fond of random tragic backstories for characters, but the author ties experiences in their past to their character outlooks and tells a story of young people learning to trust and open up slowly, exploring their own emotions, and interacting with an external world which brings in heartfelt support from some and disappointing but realistic prejudice from others.

If you enjoy:

  1. Gentle and 'real' relationship progression-no toxicity, which is a rare and BIG win.
  2. Teenagers that actually sound and behave like modern, young people-prideful, slightly awkward and the right amount of angsty.
  3. Equally compelling main characters who, unlike many CPs, do not fit into stereotypical 'male' and 'female' gender roles; have genuine reasons to come around to each other, and have distinct, consistent voices.
  4. Side characters that add to the depth of the story, and represent real people rather than poorly sketched out plot devices.
  5. Conflicts which scratch your heart and make you cry, not caused by some silly lack of communication but meaty issues like emotional defence mechanisms, h*mophobia, and the lack of control teens have over their own choices.
This is it for you.

Join me in gratitude for the translator's hard work, without which a second lockdown would have been impossible to get through. <<less

This was such a wonderful read. I couldn't stop reading once I started. The romance is definitely a slow burn, but the tension is definitely there. It really gave me summer school romance, but I truly felt growth from the characters by the end of the novel. There is comedy when needed, and once the romance starts it's that subtle intensity that really keeps you wanting more from our couple.

Characters:

The ML and MC both felt like the main characters. For a lot of BL novels that I have read center... more>> around the MC, and the ML seem to exist just for the MC. But not for this novel. Our MC and ML are two very separate characters with their own stories whose faith intertwines due to their parents. They share similarities, yet are so different personality wise. Once they start growing closer, you can see the tacit understanding between both of them, and they are so lovely to each other.

TLDR: This is a very sweet read, like a lemon iced tea during the summer. Sweet, refreshing, but with a tang.

Special thanks to the translators! <<less

Musuli might be my favorite BL author at this point. All her works have reeled me in and blown my mind, upending my existing views on many things. I had to do plenty of self-reflection just because of this lol

This novel treats the struggles of homosexuals quite realistically, truly short of having people beat the gays up. I love how the heartbreak wasn't glossed over in a few paragraphs and it was truly explored how much it can change people. And how much love can heal them, not back to... more>> how things were, but stronger people who have the lessons from the past and the hope in the present.

Musuli is also so good in creating the atmosphere in her works. It truly brings you in to her stories. All of her works will leave a mark on you, forcibly taking over their own spot in your hearts. <<less

Y'all see that high 4.8 rating? Well there's obviously a reason for that. And the reason is that this novel is freakin awesome and unique!I don't think this needs my review as some good sisters have written really awesome reviews, good enough to let us know how awesome it is so i'll just talk about the stuff that is totally unique to this novel and hasn't been mentioned much:

It wasn't as funny and fluffy as other highschool BLs like "fake slacker", "my underachieving seatmate" (even though I would've loved that)... more>> but what made me give it 5 stars was that besides the fluff and comedy it was realistic to the point that I could imagine all the things in it happening irl and it broke my heart reading this. But DW y'all its an HE!

When I say realistic, I mean that it wasn't just a cute highschool romance. It was the story of two clumsy and reckless youths getting acquainted due to circumstances, each having their own problems. Trying to be friends after noticing each other's loneliness and falling in love uncontrollably. Since they both knew, they were guys and that their parents were together, they tried their best to squash their feeling and be rational. When they finally got together, the circumstances forced them to suffer even tho all they did was to fall in love with someone. Honestly, I felt like crying reading it a lot! Its so freakin realistic because yes thats what happens in most situations! I won't spoil you guys much but there are much more realistic elements in it like the parents' reactions/some details about other people and the execution of each plot point/incident is breathtakingly well done! It was realistic, heart clenching and always made me shocked when some points which even I never thought of were brought to light and made use of.I honestly loved all of it!

But that doesn't mean it doesn't have good romance and comedy. Both the MC and ML are my good babies! Their classmates are just the perfect thing ever! MC teasing the ML trying to see his reactions and making him laugh were the best things. MC is so different from other MCs I have read about but yet so endearing. He knows how to read the room but he won't let himself be wronged. He cares for himself (because he's precious xD) and also others a lot! He had his young master habits and always loved to mess with the ML. He was also really intelligent and hardworking, same as the ML so he didn't need any tutoring or feel any inferiority complex (i liked this point as it showed them being equal and yet not really OP). And anyone who wanna say sh*t about the ML, come fight me! Was he cold? No way, dude. He was just introverted due to his circumstances, he didn't know how to express his feelings and care for people. But he always did it via his actions (this has been mentioned a lot of time in the novel and noticed by the MC too). MC always liked to see ML act like a tsundere never admitting the good things he did for others. He's such a precious baby!! And DW he's not a homophobe, you'll get it if you read the novel. But I guarantee you guys, you'll love these two precious babies!!!
Spoiler

i still cry over the years they lost due to their parents and the things they had to go through :' (

[collapse]

Can I mention how freakin good the wording used in it is? The lines are so artistic and beautiful. Let me tell you guys, only a few anime/novels has manged to impress me with their writing and this has become one of them! I always felt like tearing up reading those beautiful lines and dialogues! Hats off to the author!

And last but not least, The name of this novel has such deep meaning! When I was just starting it, I paid it no heed but when I was reading the novel and finally understood the meaning of the name, I felt like crying so much. Thats so freakin beautiful! I recommend you guys read it for yourself to realize it but lemme leave a spoiler for you guys
Spoiler

The both leads were "a certain someone" for each other, Not brothers, not quite boyfriends but a certain someone who they loved

I think the synopsis does not give justice to the whole flow of the story? I think the current flow is alright. Furthermore, in my opinion, I think the attitudes of the MC and the ML is justifiable in a way. You cannot judge a character without understanding their depths. There is someone who hates the ML for being cold-hearted, but please think about how his situation when he was a child, then critically analyze how it hindered our ML for not being able to express his own feelings. On... more>> the flip side, in a homos*xual point of view, our MC's attitude should also be explainable, think about his childhood and compare it with his current situation. <<less

This is such a good story for when you need a break from high-intensity plot lines and blood racing action. This story is very light-hearted in the first 4/5 of the story as we see the main characters go from enemies to lovers. However, in the last 1/5 of the story it gets a bit angst and I may or may not have shed some tears when that arc just started. It is a happy ending though and the angst is just for a bit.

The only issue I had with... more>> the story was that I wished it was longer. The ending was kind of abrupt and it would’ve been more fulfilling if the author wanted to tie some loose ends in some relationships before cutting it off. Other than this, this is for sure a must-read story and I recommend this for anyone who wants to read a love story with some twists near the end. <<less

This novel is overrated. There's not much character growth and it's basically how Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang met in an awkward family situation and how they supported each other in school and fell in love. And then their underground relationship got found out by the friends and was exposed by one of Sheng Wang's haters. They were separated due to parental objections but got back together again when they are working adults. Even if Sheng Wang's dad or Jiang Tian's mom object to their relationship, what can they do... more>> ? Nothing. <<less

Absolute best

A great story with a slowburn, coming-of-age, slice-of-life, high-school romance. Loved everything about the novel. I avoided this novel for so long because I heard it was extremely angsty but I'm glad that I decided to read this book.

I love both main characters and their relationship. From being rivals to friends to lovers, it was an extremely beautiful journey. Their interactions were so sweet. ML despite having cold and aloof personality cared for MC deeply. Jiang Tian's past was extremely painful to read, my boy went through a lot... more>> at a very young age. MC had not had it easy either as his dad was quite neglectful. Despite adapting quickly to new surroundings he did feel lonely. So I'm glad that they found each other.

All the side characters were lovable too, from teachers to friends to colleagues. I loved the bond between the students of class A. Even after everything was revealed I'm so glad that they didn't treat Sheng Wang any different than before.

Spoiler

"Nobody knew they were together, but everybody was a witness to the way they belonged to each other"

"Etched in my bones, it says: I still love you."

These lines hit deep.

Overall a really good story with romance, comedy and angst.
I'd give up everything to read this book for the first time again.

(ch23. nov25) I just have to write a mini review while reading b/c I love it so much so far (and I'm rather selective with the slice of life types). Mu Su Li creates a story where you can feel as though you're in the moment with the characters, and makes even the most simplest of things bring you a feeling of melancholy that can set you at ease. The pace of the story is comfortable; at the surface it's a slow progression between Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian... more>> but really it's all significant subtleties that can rarely be found with any other person.

EDIT (dec18) : Despite how heart wrenching (and likely to be unforgettable) this story was, my heart is warm and a sense of calm rest seemed to have settle within me...

Everything I've previously mentioned remains the same, but now I see far more depth into it of course. Mu Su Li describes so many important and meaningful aspects of life that occurs to everyone with a natural flow. For me, this story is about how there's always more meaning than what it seems beneath relationships, but often times, it's hard to describe and put into words. Yet, the feeling and emotions we have about them are certain. With that sort of writing, it's focused on the development and healing of people. Everything is very specific............. but still incredibly universal.

It wasn't full of the relationship troubles / development of Jiang tian and Sheng wang. You might expect for the first couple dozen chapters, but then our world gradually but surely expands onto other characters. Everyone is weaved together in some way, whether indirectly or directly, it's something that doesn't get overlooked (but there's also not a random amount of empathy for certain characters when it isn't due). There was just enough details given on relationships to derive a conclusion. Sometimes I had to reread a few small parts to truly understand what one character is implying to the other, but it was satisfying to come to those realizations... Mu Su Li is a genius in her writing T_T.

This story means a lot to me, and I truly say this from my heart. I was struggling to come in terms with some of my own life problems, or you can say stuck in the past while also wanting to develop one certain plan to follow in the future... Surprisingly, this was also a recurring theme in the story. And in the end, a lesson we learn was that the future is always uncertain, there are many things that could go way differently from what you expected (and be outside of your ability to understand beforehand). I mean...... that's the sort of thing you often hear. But to actually read something that makes it feel so personal for you... w ow <<less

I'm not rly a fan of high school themed novels since most novels I have read do not rly tell much about high school life. But MouMou changed my view on them.

Since it's based on Chinese school system, some parts are a little confusing but overall, this novel really reflects students life.

Classes/assignments/exams ✔ Your noisy and idiotic but also wonderful classmates ✔ Strict and scary but kind teachers ✔ Dorm life✔

I'll never shut up about how Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang loves each other.
