Facing bankruptcy, a beekeeper crosses over into a magical fantasy world, gaining the ability to control bee swarms. Leveraging magic, he cultivates diverse mutant bee species: efficient honey-collecting bees, formidable combat bees, and entirely new bee species with extraordinary abilities.

He explores this fantastical world, bringing back various nectar-bearing flora for cultivation, creating magical honey imbued with enchanting effects, and distributing it to all corners of both worlds. While he becomes renowned as the Honey King of his original world and an elite beekeeper, his fame also spreads in the magical world, where he’s known as the Bee Whisperer of the Black Forest.

The latest edition of the “Black Forest Adventure Guide” specifically warns: “Never attempt to provoke him, or his bee swarms will not spare you! Don’t ask me how I know!”

it feels unfair to judge the story based on my own preferences, but i'll do my best to put it into words.

my expectations were of a man frolicking through two worlds with his army of overpowered bees. I did not get that.

instead, a mad scientist who somehow has an affinity with bees despite not thinking of them as living beings.

he treats them like disposable units in a game that he experiments with and discards at will. It's a bit off putting because I'm used to (and like) soft fluffy novels like 'bee in a ruined world' (which by the title you can tell is another beekeeping novel).

small plot holes like how he's able to purchase bee colonies in bulk despite being apparently tight on finances,

translation errors that completely swapped his pronouns in one chapter that I had to go back and check that it did indeed say 'male protagonist' and that I wasn't hallucinating the previous chapters.

so now rather than a beekeeping novel, it's more like a mass produced mobile game, or at least has the functions of one.

the author also has a habit of dumping information via the booklet instead of letting the MC explore it himself and that makes it feel a bit abrupt? Like 'ok you know everything within a few chapters worth now what?'

tldr: expectations completely subverted in a weird direction <<less

First thing first, did a chapter go missing between chapter 75 and 76? What a crazy and sudden scene skip what the heck??

The protagonist is an annoying arrogant know it all. 🙄 The thought process makes me roll my eyes in disdain. The way he decides he knows best and the authors writing style is annoying.

Next the protagonist is a psychopath. No emotion and always calculating how to manipulate and use people. How he can gain the most benefits and how he can trick or kill to get what he... more>> wants.

The world setting is earth and a forest in another world. He also does some dimension traveling later on.

The novel isn't too bad but once you get into the 50s 60s and 70s it's like chapters are missing. The author had explain every little step like the typical pay per word writer but he suddenly has jarring time skips it's like chapters are entirely missing.

Do I recommend this story? It's my first bee keeping story so it was an interesting concept and that's why I read it but outside of the novelty it is an inferior novel. <<less

A very interesting read and whilst I don't know anything about bees, it's pretty enjoyable. Sort of 'By the Grace of the Gods' manga/novel/anime series but with bees! And that MC can hop back and forth between Earth and the magical Otherworld.

Unfortunately it's ongoing and was last updated in November 2023 (at the time of this review writing) ToT lawd I wished I'd checked before digging in

I still recommend checking it out! Though maybe not on the translator's page since they only seem to translate half of the chapter and... more>> move on 😅 the other half might be on their patreon but I wouldn't know since I hopped onto the raws when I realised lol <<less

Interesting premise, it is unfortunately drug down by classic Chinese MC sociopathy, where relationships are all about tangible benefits and not genuine friendship. Anything not strictly human, or likely even Chinese, is lesser. He treats the intelligent and knowledgeable spirits as tiny animal minions who can be instantly tamed with just honey. Combined with the translator doing a terrible job of keeping anything consistent between chapters, names and genders change constantly so you have no idea who the hell is talking or if you're mistaken on the gender of characters.... more>> Not even 40 chapters in and it feels very bland. <<less

Interesting story ruined by an incompetent translator or if I want to be nice incompetent communication by the translator. There are a lot of hints that the translator is using machine translation (for some characters I don't have a clue about which gender they have because the translator keeps on mixing up the usage of he/she and his/her). And from chapter 74 onwards there are a lot of missing chapters. I don't know if that is bc the original writer removed those chapters or because the translator could not find... more>> the translation for those chapters. And maybe this wasn't so bad if the translator communicated about why the chapters are missing but unfortunately the only consistent communication is about how to donate money. <<less

The story is ok I guess if you can look past a lot of illogical moment that if you think about it brakes the plot but the translation is utter garbage some chapters are just missing entirely. For me 1/5 but it might be someones taste

A nice translation of a beekeeper getting stung by a blue magical bee and transforming into Bee Man! With the power to control bees at will, he had applied his newfound powers to cultivate new magical breed of bees and selling their new magical brand of honey!

There was a slight translation error with he going by she for a portion of a chapter, but the translation seems good. The story itself seems promising.

Looking forward for the ongoing adventures of Bee Man!
