The child that my friend gave birth to was the main character of a fantasy novel that I read in my previous life. Not long after his birth, this poor child grew up with an indifferent father and suffered from abuse at the hands of his stepmother. He left home only to proudly return when he became an adult and convict the wicked stepmother.

“He’s such a pretty child, and I feel sorry for him. If it weren’t for Amanda.”

[What?] My foot steps while holding the child stopped.

[Amanda… Amanda…] Amanda, that was the main character’s mother’s childhood friend, a native of a Korean-American family. That was my name.

“I’ll be the Duchess for Marilyn, at least for her sake.”

And, maybe, she can be a step mother who doesn’t pick on this child? How to not be the evil stepmother, Amanda, abuse this child even if she dies. Can Amanda be a good stepmother? Can the Duke, a cold northern man who blows a cold wind, and Amanda be good parents?

Waring this is a heavy read, don't expect much romance. The childcare parts are well thought out-line and well sequence on how to care for baby, moreover the intereactions between couples are so little, only on specific parts that draw them in. I must say that it's rather realistic for 21st on childcare but a bit numb and hollow about the outside dukedom, and it leave with such narrow and immature world veiw on politics and socializing. That's why the MC lacks of immediate attacks and threats sensing to a... more>> fault meanwhile the ML.... hasn't been mentioned much, it is also a lack of communication between characters as well (except for Carl). And so it leaves with ambiguous on a lot of thing, but well it hasn't been past a season 1 right, I hope they all will grow up and learn more by the time the next volume arrives, at this point in time they are just inexperience parents. <<less

I feel bad for the baby ML and the MC for this situation.

I mean... They made her choose between letting a child get abused by a horrible women or abandoning her nice well-adjusted fiancée for a stranger who was her friends husband. As bad as I feel for Marilyn, she really did MC dirty. Marilyn's father is actual crazy scum too, honestly a good amount worse than the duke who's not actually that bad.

I really like that MC didn't immediately jump into the role and did actually think about her... more>> own happiness at first. She's straightforward and reasonable. She's a nice girl and deserves the best.

Regarding the relationship

As of the most recent chapter it seems that the duke already fancies her to some extent. He was apparently only in his late teens when he got married and he's not actual a bad/abusive/rude person so I think I can grow to like him. He's more meant to be awkward/blunt based on the writing.

Also our FL is a top. Boo yah! It's kinda refreshing that for once it's FL that knows what to do.

There is nothing much to review here currently. You will see the MC from the beginning doesn't want to be stepmother but have to agree eventually because the friend father had used emotional trap in her. In my personal opinion the MC friend aren't really a good friend in the original story you will know why when you read the story. I felt really sorry for original MC Amanda she deserve better friend honestly

It's seem an interesting story, the only downside is the UPDATE

Korean story always have slow UPDATE😢🤧

Waho, a modern girl who takes the reins to make sure they enjoy, intead of a poor thing waiting for the male to teach her / possess her or make her useless and crazy with pleasure

nope here you have a realistic experience of an empowered woman ! How refreshing, and sadly, how special !

A splendid read. It's got a dash of angst, tragedy and the author perfect the art of tying a carrot to a stick. I'm being willingly dragged for a ride. Our MC is forced to compromise her own beliefs and resolve in the face of her conscience and guilt she feels towards her friend. I'm looking forward to how things will develop. Thank you translator for you hard work.

I hope the new group continues to translate the novel! *Sobs* I really like the drama envolving how to be a caring stepmother and how to have a healthy relationship with your husband. Also, it's refreshing to see a story about second marriages. Plus, the smut is good; I don't know the last time a saw a FL being in control of "bed situations".

I love the novel so far the snu snu is good, I like the Duke his cute and everything. I'm sad we don't get so many moment with Carl. I love Amanda she's smart and know her place.

I really like how the story began, it wasn't rush it shows how the MC struggled to come up with wise decisions, like whether to take on the responsibility for a child that is not hers or to just live her life peacefully like the way she wanted it. It's great I'm looking forward for the next chapters :D

Reasonable protagonist, decent albeit socially awkward ML and a cute kid: what's more to want? My only complaint is that there isnt more to read; I want to read more of this smart lady who knows want she wants both in bed and out

Better than other Korean Josei or Shoujo novel, at least there's no unnecessary angst. I hate the baby's grandfather, the least he could do is be grateful but no, he has to constantly scheme against MC

I really really like the MC so far. She’s a good person, and I feel like she’s far more realistic than many other MCs in these types of novels. Snu snu is ok, nothing super explicit but hopefully it’ll get better.

So far so good.

Both FL and ML are likeable. He's awkward but have good intentions and is respectful and she's very clear and knows what she wants in her life.

The baby is a plus. Very cute and not too smart that pulls you out of the suspension of disbelief.

... more>> I wonder what will be the big conflict since everything is going fine until now.

[EDIT] I've seen spoilers. I know what will be the conflict. (Insert Mr. Fantastic meme) My heart can't handle but this is still a really good novel so give it a shot! <<less

i love FL shes a top your honor, and ML too is not that cold hearted men we often seen in those types of novel

Wait this is so good to read (⊙ˍ⊙)

The MC is such an amazing woman. I love how she is reconsidering every single thing, thinking about her own happiness and thinking about her friend child who she knows will be abused by his step mother. She’s thinking logically and being level head about it. Not only that she’s trying her best at everything she can for the baby so he can grow up and live a good life in the future. Gosh! I like the translation in the early chapter it was more easy to grasp but not the recent one. Especially the s*x part, there are a few words that hard to understand, it's not steamy enough (idk if this is the fault of the original or the translation)

So far I guess i'll continue to read this, hope the translation will improve👏👏👏

Decent story, good writing even though the translations are messy at times - but intelligible nonetheless. Smut is good, but there’s not much romanace until the later chapters. Too much baby care and description for me, it covers as much as the romance part, but I suppose that’ s fine since it’s a story about MC being a good stepmother, I suppose. There is some angst with the death of the mother, but not much more. Fluffy read, all in all.

okay so until ch 22 its pretty interesting, although we don't really get significant bonding between FL and ML besides the physical intimacy...... we can see they're heading towards being actually in love but already have affection for each other.

FL gets pregnant but the baby daughter is killed by carlo's grandfather. it's angst I wasn't expecting in this novel so I decided to drop it and maybe try to read it again after translation is complete.

but it does seem like a promising slow burn and the translation is pretty decent. hopefully the slow burn romance will be worth it in the future. <<less

I like the ML’s innocence but I do wish the author would let the ML’s I sit tá go wild and do some beast mode shenanigans. And I’m not too sure what’s up with the constant cowgirl style... Kama sutra got so many positions, let’s switch it up y’all.
but other then that, great story.
