Shen Heng is assigned to guard the stables to watch out for men who might try to sneak in to rape his sister. When a martial artist appears in the stables and is injured by his brother’s horse, he mistakes him for a would-be rapist. In the following days, while the man is mostly unconscious, he heals him and tries to seek advice on how to punish him.

From the tags and cover picture, I expected this novel to be a short, sweet tale about a romance blossoming over seven days.... more>> I was wrong. Whether I was wrong to have such expectations, or whether the author simply failed to meet them, I can’t say.

Honestly, the setting was intriguing. It’s based in your standard cultivation world, but we never leave the MC’s house. They’re a small-fry but relatively important family, and vaguely aligned with the Righteous Sect. And despite being in the Righteous Sect, they’re rather morally corrupt. It would have been interesting (and funny) to explore that aspect further.

But I couldn’t say the same about the characters...

I love misunderstanding novels, and I appreciate that they require a certain level of ignorance in their characters to pull off. However, Shen Heng takes it a little too far. Shen Heng believes Yin Cheng is a rapist coming after his sister. Yin Cheng believes Sheng Hen is trying to rape him. In a certain way, one of these men is not wrong.

Which brings me to the romance. There is none. For better or worse, this is precisely as was described in the synopsis: a story about a meeting. This is the first seven days after two future lovers met for the first time... With one of them being out cold for 90% of it. The ending is rushed, with no real closure. Any and all “romance” can be found in that brief one paragraph description of future events. Sadly, it sounds like a good story – one we’ll never, ever read.

Humour-wise, this is a seven chapter rape joke. <<less

This was kinda funny, but at the same time I feel a bit like I was left hanging by the time we got to the end, I know its called 7 days but the author didn't have to literally end it in 7 chapters >.>..
