Houjou Yuuji, 30 years old, jobless, hikkomori for 10 years. Using his parents’ death as the impetus, he decides to rid himself of his hikkomori life and leaves the house. What awaited him, however, was a different world that he was not used to, creatures strutting about that he didn’t recognize.

This is the story of a man transported to the another world, as he lives in relative peace with his beloved dog Kotarou – his house, with electricity, water, gas, and the internet somehow still connected.

One day while exploring the forest near his house he finds a girl named Alice, and becomes her guardian. Thus, 4 years after he is transported to this world, Yuuji resolves to venture into his first town.

The MC is amazing! So smart, powerful and striking appearance, walking the path to become the strongest of the world! That MC is gentle with the family but ruthless with the ones who want to do harm. Tough she is a female dog. We love you Kotarou!

Eh? Yuuji? He is just a useless side character part of her family! The readers and the people from forum inside the ln all agree!

LOL

But is quite a light and funny story. I crack reading the forum chapters. It’s slice of life, so best... more>> not expect too many striking developments. <<less

Well, this story gets a solid 3.5 from me. It's amusing (and a bit above average), especially the NEETs that help the MC. It's fairly interesting, but the only part one would read this is for comedy, don't expect a good story. It's totally worth reading, especially since every chapter is very short.

I do have a few parts I didn't like though... Actually, scratch that, I have one thing I didn't like. The MC... or maybe the author for writing it like this when it could've been so much better.... more>> The MC is a total wimp, he's challenging the limits of being pathetic and is one of the worst cases I've seen. He's got no balls whatsoever and he's got sh*t for brains. He can only do anything remotely reliable or useful by asking his NEET friends to help him make a detailed plan on what to do. It's a miracle that he can even dress himself with his intellect and decisiveness. The author loves to poke fun at this fact for some reason and seems to believe that a somewhat mentally handicapped MC is amusing. Now, that's still okay, it's for comedy after all, it doesn't matter that much. BUT... everyone walks all over him, he's such a fcking pushover that I can only cringe when seeing it and he doesn't retaliate at all, as if it's natural to get completely disrespected and blatantly viewed as a no-good idiot that should follow their every decision and not question it by his companions. He gets f*cked in the ass by everyone and takes it like a little b*tch. Meanwhile, the current hierarchy is as follows: the female dog (literal dog) is on top, Alice the 6-8 year old child is second and much more reliable than him and then in the last place comes the MC and the author likes to remind us of this all the time. Towards the end of the released translated chapters, he also got s*aves, so now it will probably shuffle around with him being below them too, they did show their bellies in respect for the dog after all while they barely cared about the MC and the dog treats them as her underlings. Great.

Now, if it stopped at this it would be a bit more acceptable, but then we see a few other things he does. He repeatedly does s*upid things, stammers, makes people look down on him, ruins plans due to his ineptitude, almost gets killed in combat due to freezing up (mentally) in battle and other stuff. Like when he got asked if he was from another world, he denies it while stammering in nervousness or when he heard about buying a s*ave, he hastily asked if it was allowed to beat and forcibly have s*x with them because he didn't think first, he was just curious about how s*avery works after all but his ambiguous sentence made him appear as a sadistic rapist or something. His magic too... He keeps acting like a chuunibyou and trying to invoke magic by yelling "spells" with words like goddess, inner force, anime/manga references, intricate details and sh*t like that, you know, the typical bullsh*t that chuunibyou would think up. He has seen Alice invoking magic and heard her spells and they're all really simple, clearly describing what she wants even if her way of putting it is a bit silly, but it works every time when she tries it, stuff like "big hot fire" or "blue fire" and then some small parts, I think it was what it was supposed to do, like attacking or shooting. The MC once got really tired and couldn't care anymore and just made a simple spell with light magic as the basis, something about a big ball of light to bring light to this location, simple and easy to understand with no unnecessary crap, and voilá, IT WORKED. So, now he would start using simpler stuff to try and invoke magic, right? Because he's got evidence that the reason it's not working has to do with his unnecessary chuunibyou crap, but NO. He keeps on with the chuunibyou act and weird, ridiculous "spells" that can't be understood and is logically flawed, then he's surprised that he couldn't cast any other spells.

The author is taking the s*upidity act a bit too far, because if someone is that ret*rded they should get imprisoned in an asylum/mental hospital. It's not funny, it just makes you cringe.

If you just ignore the negative parts, it's often pretty funny though, sometimes even making you laugh out loud. For me, it was about 50% cringe and irritation and 50% fun. <<less

Okay, I'll be honest. I fell in love with this Novel is not because of how OP Koutarou is nor how cute Alice-chan is. Not because how funny the Bulletin Board (read: Forum) went, not also because how unique and original their ideas are. What's so mesmerizing of this story, to me, is how real Yuuji feels.

What's so great about a wimpy guy like him, you ask? Someone who's so dumb, he technically succumbs his own defenseless back to wounded goblins? A power-leveling leech, he s**ked off preys even from... more>> a 7 y.o girl? Well, you know it already then! He's a coward and never dares to step out of his house, but who isn't when facing an unknown danger where your life is at stake? He's an idiot at making decisions, but the whole mankind average IQ has been through a (ropeless) bungee jumping ever since Stephen Hawking's death after all. Please, not everyone is a genius like you. He might be a weakling that relies on any powerhouse he finds but is it not human's nature to do so? If anything, I'd call it wise instead.

Toward the author who successfully created such a useless, unreliable, average, and very relatable humane character among the others, I tip my hat off. Really, he is not strong, not wise, not brave, and not even he gives any hero vibe. He is just, literally, a run-of-the-mill villager A who caught up in an accident. A face among many. Someone very human. Not a man you look up to, but a person you know through and through.

Yuuji is Yuuji. One of the most humane characters I know with a real depth in him. <<less

This one isn't for me, but it's pretty good story about a hopeless and clueless, socially dependent hermit who it's outclassed by his dog. It's a straight comedy for the trolls of the internet... yes you guys and gals are apart of the main cast.

This was mediocre and when the MC buys a s*ave without hesitation to start a literal plantation it became garbage. All of these authors that imagine themselves as enlightened tyrants and revel in their mediocrity are so boring. Send someone with balls, like John Brown or Benjamin Lay, to help the s*aves overthrow their masters and free themselves. Or maybe send Sherman to Japan.

The MC Yuuji is funny to me because unlike the typical OP isekai protag, he has no idea what he's doing and never really learns anything. I think it's a bit more realistic; I'm always incredulous that MCs know the ancient production method of shampoo or whatever. I love the chatroom aspects. Kotarou is MVP. Yuuji's reaction to s*avery as "it's ok because you can't beat them" is kind of ridiculous and I hate it when authors rationalize s*avery as ok when it's clearly not. Plus, Yuuji gets specifically kemonomimi... more>> s*aves, which is kind of disgusting. There's little to no plot and I'm reading for Kotarou at this point. Still, it passes the time well enough. <<less

This story is incredibly amusing and comedic. Sure, it's slow-paced, but that is what I believe to be one of it's saving graces, as it gives us time to bond with the characters and even presents the problems at a relative pace that they would be solved in.

The chapters that occur in the other world are also a saving grace, seeing as few fics ever explore such things. All in all, I believe this to be an excellent story, though the chapters are quite short.

Slow pacing. Very lighthearted, except when they behead the goblins. MC is reliable, brave and strong, she is a dog though. Yuuji can be goblin food or whatever. There's also cute loli, with cute magic incantation.

The MCs is transported to another world, but their connection to earth isn't cut off. This is what make this series interesting. Would you believe someone who says he is transported to another world in 4chan forum? What will you do when your parent's house vanished?

This novel is unlike every other world travelling novels I have read. It provides a really unique experience that I would recommend every one to try reading it once.

My favourite part of this novel definitely have to be the forums. They always make me laugh and its great!

The main character may be useless, but the female dog is definitely one of the best character in the novel :)

A loving light read with a lot of humor. The development and story telling is good. There is no OP until where I read.
Its a slice of life with soft/easy adventure and survival. The chapters with message boards are specially funny.
A good read for a slow day.

I can enjoy slow paced animes and light/web novels but this is way over my limit. Slow and boring to the extreme. At this point it doesn't deserve the Action and Adventure tags since its basically 99% slice of life.

The comedy is weak and repetitive with the same jokes being used several times almost every single chapter ("but she is a dog though", "what a nice lady. But she is a dog though", "she is a dog though"). There's very little interaction with other people being the majority of it... more>> done in a online forum, which was funny at first but gets pretty boring really quickly when there's several chapters dedicated to trollers, people talking nonsense and jokes that aren't funny in the least.

The MC is s*upid and that's okay - it's expected. He's an hikikomori who hasn't left his house for 10 years so of course there's some serious mental trauma and social interaction problems attached. The problem is the s*upidity actually starts with the author and spreads through literally every character in the series. Several people talking on a forum and none of them makes any suggestion that you would call 'brilliant'. His sister whom hasn't contacted him for 10 years suddenly reappears worried about his brother as if that makes any sense. Then even though she is a successful designer who went abroad and is already married she comes and does the most s*upid thing of paying the gas, water and electricity companies 40m yen (300k USD) just to compensate them for the "stress" the disappearance of her house caused them - something you would never expect from a person with a talented background.

This novel is definitely not worth more than 1/5 if novels like overlord and tensei shittara slime (which have the same genres) are worth 4/5. But I'm going with the 2/5 because I've read much worse. <<less

It's really enjoyable, fresh and hilarious but if you want to see fights with great powers and MC with powerful lines. That's not for you xD Is slow but interesting, Yuuji as MC well Yuuji is a Yuuji xDD

Kotarou is really Op, she obviously is the MC but for some reason she gaves that position to Yuuji xD

if you are looking for a slow development in plot, slice of life, an useless MC with op sidekick in another world and cuteness, this novel will provide you. The MC is undoubtedly not smart and full of opening but seriously honest that I laugh at him too much ⊙﹏⊙ his dog is op and well mannered, she is a dog, though. The comedy so far is lovable and the author seriously loves to abuse MC so far. Looking forward to his outing to another place.

Without a doubt, far and away, the best part of this story is the BBS. While the pace of the story might be a bit slow, it makes sense from his character, the setting, and the fact Yuuji has no OP powers.

The worst part of the story is Yuuji.

This isn't in the sense that you should be turned off by him. There's no problem, inherently, with having a somewhat pe*verted, inattentive and slow character from which to view the story from. The main problem is that Yuuji never seems to... more>> grow, and the plot doesn't press him to. He progresses, yes, but all that progress seems to be more like the plot driving him along than something that is a direct result of his character internalizing the lessons he learnt - if any - and putting them into practice.

Spoiler

Now, this problem is most evident in the first 7 or so volumes. Yuuji never receives real consequences from any direct mistakes, so there is no room for realistic growth. One of the most likely threats is Kevin - but the merchant treats him kindly and doesn't take much advantage of him, so Yuuji is never punished for such a glaring vulnerability. When he goes out to hunt monsters, or to the city, or to build a fortified defense - they all seem to be the culmination of the efforts and knowledge of other people he talked to, rather than some principle which he had formulated. One big example that stands out is the yurt-thing that he built for his "s*aves". He originally expected one, so he built it following his BBS's instructions with enough room for one. Afterwards, three of them crammed in and said it was okay, so he just left it like that. Never mind the fact that he's okay with them living in these conditions outside his actual modern house just because they're "s*aves" - but that's another issue.

The only moment that you can really say he had a personal growth moment was when he participated in the orc extermination and realized he had to kill them or eventually be killed. Everything else could have been a spur-of-the-moment decision, for all the relevant impact it had on him. This took something like eight volumes to reach. Vaguely around this point the author also seems to realize, "oh shit, I left his personal growth stagnant for far too long", and starts doing things like allowing Yuuji to comfort the elf girl and participate in conflicts in the adventurer's guild. The author also starts including well-written side stories of NEETs being inspired to improve themselves by following Yuuji, showing that yes, he is indeed capable of writing character development. Yuuji himself, however, is still a start-and-stop engine; for example, after comforting the elf, for the next few months it reads more like he just left her alone to play with Alice despite being the only one who could talk to her, and thought about yet more plot-driven stuff like allowing seamstresses into the house to use his sewing machine and the fashion business. At the least, he is still well-meaning; he doesn't shy from hard labor or think himself better than everyone.

[collapse]

All that said, the BBS interactions make it all worthwhile. The world and combat is nothing special, but the inter-world link is written rather tightly with little inconsistency and the author thinks of and plugs up a lot of possible leaks, so how the other side reacts to Yuuji's escapades - and the things they are concerned about - is the highlight of the book. <<less

Most of the time he goes out hunting some cool stuff happens then it ends. Most of the time he is just thinking to him self, and talking to other people on a forums about his experience so far while sharing pictures and video. He learns magic but he is not good at. His dog does all the work when it comes to hunting. At this rate I feel like he will never leave his house at least for another 50+chapters since it is so slow.

... more>> Its crazy that almost two years have past and he has only left his house to hunt. He did find that little girl that he helped but he did not find her till like 20+ chapters in. This story is just to slow if this continues this will be like a 5000+ chapter long story, but the chapters are so short I don't even think you could call them a chapter.

It gets a 3/5 for me some parts I really liked but it was every 2 chapters out of 20, the story just needs to be allot faster its was to slow, this is a slow story among slow stories. We will all die before this ends. <<less

Light novel in every sense. Humor is light, intelligence of MC is on lower end of spectrum. The story is so warm to the eye that I heve read everything in single day. It has this charm which make it different, some aspects simply unique. Many things are made longer than needed, chapters, dialogs etc. If author made it to be lighthearted story, then she made it. So lightheared that I wait for some action two whole volumes and what I get? Hare? Rabbit? Dog? Goblin? What? So if you... more>> want boring and lightheated read then you have it right here. <<less
