“A sound mind dwells in a body of steel!”

After dying a shameful death in his past life—weak, sickly, and utterly unmanly—one man is reborn into a noble family… as a girl?!

Refusing to accept this cruel twist of fate, Irine von Velmund dedicates herself to the Path of Muscle, training relentlessly to forge the ultimate masculine physique! But no matter how many push-ups she crushes or how much iron she pumps, one problem remains: her body is biologically female.

When a fledgling hero arrives with news of the Demon King’s revival, Irine sees her chance—a grand adventure awaits! Clad in adventurer’s gear (and layers of deception), she sets off to become the manliest warrior the world has ever seen.

As the title suggests – expect classic harem chaos, though the real romantic battlefield dynamics won’t kick in until midway. Best enjoyed without overthinking it!

Good comedy, poor plot / action.

The characters are pretty hilarious, especially the MC who thinks of herself as a guy and is obsessed with training, giving nicknames to all her muscles, but hiding the training and keeping up a front as a noble girl.

This contrast as well as the dense hero provide plenty of humorous situations in almost every chapter.

However, the actual plot of fighting demons is sub par, even considering that it's a trope that's been used thousands of times.

Spoiler

The power levels are all over the place with no consistent reference. And demons are more powerful than literally anybody except for heroes to the point that it's hopeless to defeat even one, even with many people and powerful magic.

But the hero can slaughter hundreds within half an hour and walk away without a scratch. Why does that hero need a party at all?

It seems like nobody who is not a hero can contribute significantly (even healing, since he doesn't get injured), and the hero is powerful enough to conquer entire continents on his own.

The entire premise of the hero party is meaningless. Their interactions are funny, but it honestly feels like a bunch of foolish people got dragged along because the hero was too s*upid to understand the disparity of power between himself and others.

[collapse]

If you can look past all that, the comedy provides some entertainment. For now I'll take a break and possibly pick this up again another time. <<less

So far so good.

This is not a high shelf novel. But it is one that has fun and isn't trying to be. It knows its kinda s*upid, and is has fun with that.

MC is a muscle head. A guy who died in his previous life and is reborn as a nobles daughter. He she basically wants a body builder physique to be manly. Has some vaguely Mashle vibes in that regard, though she doesn't seem to be actually that physically strong (fairly toned though).

She is one of those perfect characters... more>> where she is muscle brained enough she is funny dumb, but reasonable enough that she isn't just a dense blockhead. She has a good judgement/insight into whether people are being honest, and like just a few chapters in she already picked up on the love triangle between "hero" and childhood friend, and the orphan hero took in.

Other series would've milked and dragged that out.

Meanwhile she is kinda a blockhead when looking at herself. Like she half-seriously wondered if she could grow a d*ck by enough muscle training. Or she is not super self aware how sketchy her disguise was. Or she wore some bikini armor without underwear when things were showing. Etc.

All in all it's pretty fun. She appears outwardly as a refined noble flower, but with her younger sister or private/disguise, she is a musclehead serious about being a man and building manly muscles.

There also is a subplot involving the little sister and her maid as they try to follow MC out of worry, and it has had all sorts of humorous shenanigans.

Like recently
Spoiler

they unknowingly reported each other to the local authorities for being suspicious individuals due to their sketchy disguises. And now little sis learned that it was actually her sister who was being cringe sketchy that she reported.

Or previously
Spoiler

little sis followed MC using a magical tracking device, and found out she was located in the red light district at night. And she assumed her "bro" was renting a woman (Not in the yuri way, but the "little sis is confused by her older sister who keeps making her call her brother in private, and thus is probably confused on how things work" way. While her maid reasonably thought MC was selling herself.

[collapse]

All in all this is the kinda novel that certain type of people can really enjoy and have fun with. Others want something better written and/or stimulating. Different tastes for different people.

If this falls off later I will edit my review. <<less

A pretty refreshing take to the harem stereotype hero vs demon lord trope.

Blending absurd comedy with very dark plot twists which balances out each other well without making it too jarring.

The protagonist, Irene, juggles between her beautiful, sweet and mature-bodied noblewoman facade (desuwa ojousama complete with ohohoho laugh) and her muscle-brained warrior secret identity constantly.

Carl, the male lead, is a pure, righteous hero but always gets into lucky pervy moments with his harem party. He sees Irene as a potential partner as much as the rest of the... more>> other female members so it becomes chaotic easily.

Irene always maintains a line as she has the mentality of a guy still but offers help and advice to Carl several times under her secret identity.

While almost everyone is a stereotypical class where they support their overpowered hero with skills appropriate of their role.

Irene herself is a mixed bag. She above average in both magic and melee but falls short against various enemies. Though she does show progress in both areas over time.

The story has both obvious and carefully hidden plot points that goes extremely dark that is alleviated by comedic timings.

Death is common. There are s*avery, some gore, torture and even s*xual ab*se. Like Irene's dual identity, nothing is ever what it seems.

MAJOR SPOILERS:

Spoiler
    • Carl's goddess actually being evil who abandons her heroes if it benefits her.
    • The demons being a self-inflicted disaster as humans captured an ex-hero who was cursed to be immortal and forced her to procreate with every other creature just for fun, effectively making her the demon lord and her family, the demon army.
      [collapse]
As for how the romance goes up till the end:

Spoiler

Lev would be the first to officially confess to Carl but he finds her too young still. Carl accidentally confesses to Irene while trying to go for Maika but made it official later on also got rejected because Irene still prefers women.

Not in a s*xual way but simply as casual skinship since she wants to keep building up muscles.

Author made it ambiguous though and kept a lifeline such that Carl may end up with any one of them. Even the women outside his party.

[collapse]

The story takes a while to take off and has too few chapters but it ended reasonably well.

Nuances can be lost in translation as there is a lot of wordplay.

I wish the story extended to 200 chapters so they can expand more on all the characters, their relationships with each other as well as the world they live in but author got burnt out from real life and opted to focus on the core plot.

If you are familiar with konosuba and re:zero, you might come to like this short, funny but gripping novel. <<less

The series is first and foremost a comedy, with an idiot protagonist. I repeat, this series is a comedy, with an idiot protagonist.

Now onto the review.

From the same author that brought you TS Medic, comes a more comedic series. This was written and completed a couple of years before TS Medic started, so it's one of the author's earlier works. It's definitely not as polished, but you can see signs of what the author would soon be best known for in this work.

I think one of this author's greatest skill... more>> is the ability to write very bad and bleak situations, with struggling protagonists that need to fight tooth and nail for their victories. They have a very good grasp on building tension, especially when things go from bad to worse. To talk about the story itself, it starts out comedic, but eventually things get a little intense. Once that's resolved it goes back to being a comedy again.

If you like lighthearted stories with serious climaxes, this one's it. If you're the type that finds that whiplash too strong, you might want to sit this out.

Might update again if anything changes from c18 (where I'm at). <<less
