Martial God Asura

Novel was ok for the first 1000++ chapters. MC was ruthless as it was described he would, but he was brainless as were the arrogant young masters, sect leaders, elders and basically any enemy MC faced.

Spoiler

However as MC entered Holy Land of Martialism, his character took a drastic turn - he slowly but surely started becoming a White Knight / SJW. Basically he started being all forgiving to people that did worse things than the ones he ruthlessly killed before. It was even worse when he entered ordinary realm, he almost forgave a sect that slaughtered infants for cultivation, thankfully their leader killed them all to increase his power. And then came the current arc - the upper realm where his true family resides. As soon as he came into contact with them, 99% of them were absolute bastards toward him, some betrayed him, and several young masters and their grandfathers tried to kill him. Later on when he got out of that situation and got enough power to take revenge on them, he basically left them off with a slap on the wrist, and they are currently still making problems for him.

Ok, that was enough rambling about the MC, now the other bad point - the story overall. As the novel progresses the story becomes extremely repetitive and all the characters are same - young masters will be arrogant and offend MC, their fathers / grandfathers along with their sects will support them no matter how stupid what they are doing is, and some kind elders MC never met before will come to save his ass every time he is in a cinch (doesn't have enough power to face them off), later on he will get powerup and get revenge for them insulting him, earlier on it was killing and torturing them, now its just letting them leave in shame or in extreme cases put them in high quality prison (being sarcastic here). The repetitive plot got so bad recently, that u can basically read the title of the chapter and know anything that's gonna happen in it.

TL;DR Read first ~1500 chapters (till Holy Land of Martialism) if u like ruthless mc's and brainless enemies and then just stop reading it, as it becomes unbearably stupid.

This novel is one of the rare ones that executed isekai (reincarnation) very good. I mean beside some occasional redundant tropes and cliches and filler chapters this novel did almost everything great.

First of all, I don't agree with the people who said that MC is a usual revenge isekai protagonist since they only read about 10-20 chapters of the story so you can't really take their word based of that. While yes, he does have murderous thoughts to the people that tortured him mentally and physically, he doesn't act rashly... more>> like a ret*rd and tries to murder everyone on a rampage and expect plot armor to save him (that's what all those negative reviewers were probably hoping for), but he also doesn't try to forgive them or befriend them. I would say he is indifferent to most of them and tries to stay level-headed the best he can in most situations. (beside the main aggressors which still want to harm him and his people). Also, I find his personality and thought process pretty unique since he has his own set of rules and morals and doesn't give a sh*t about peoples judgment of him that have a different set of morals and traditions which don't agree with his. Though the best thing I find about his personality is that it's CONSISTENT. What I mean by that, is that while his character does grow, it doesn't suddenly and randomly change to according to situations and make him have a moral high-ground. It's extremely rare to find an MC that is consistent with his character be it benevolent, malevolent or indifferent since they usually change when authors need them to, due to plot convenience (and that applies to all eastern novels - CN, KR and JP).

The other thing that is very interesting is the world building. It is very diverse and complex and props to author for making it stick together for so long. Beside the myriad races present in the novel which all have different characteristics and are unique in their own way, he also executed the game part of the novel very well. There were maybe only some minor flaws I found throughout the 170 chapters of the novel in the game system of the world (skills, abilities, weapons, guilds, leveling, stat, special techniques...). I hope this will continue till the end since it's one of the major elements that attracted me to read this novel. Also, I forgot to mention the lore of everything (characters, races, jobs, skill, weapons...) that author takes time to write is also very appreciated since it adds even more diversity and complexity to the novel which makes it even more interesting to read.

The side characters... well... I have mixed feelings about this part. They are developed very well, you can see that author put much of his attention on developing their personalities, emotions, backstories and goals. But the problem is that there are just TOO MUCH of them. I mean, there are at least 20-30+ characters that appear frequently (every other chapter) but I just forget what their role is or mix them up with some other character and that's not to mention other side characters that appear less often...

I can safely recommend this novel to people that want to relax and read an interesting and consistent story (both plot and MC vise). <<less

Amazing novel for the first thousand chapters. It felt like a breath of fresh air with the MC that has such a personality in a cultivation world. While in other novels you have MC's that nearly never make mistakes but still get trash talked because of stuff they can't control and then they can beat down their enemies without it feeling like them bullying them, here MC actually does stuff that incites public anger and he gets rightfully chased and beaten for it.

Although he annoyed people in countless ways, that... more>> simply made him less distant to those close to him. He is a little psychopathic as shown in several occasions when his mind was filled with the desire to go into battle and fight with complete and utter madness, but still, what MC didn't go trough that phase in their story.

Cultivation system was similar to Er Gen's other novels so it was solid and easy to understand but still interesting with each realm having special levels and being much different than the last.

Surprisingly, for Er Gen, this novel had harem which didn't appear in any of his other works and though I can't say it was great, it wasn't too bad either. MC had a relatively solid development with the girls and none of the relationships felt forced.

The reason I rated this novel 4 stars instead of 5 was the ending -
Spoiler

It was so goddamn rushed !!! I mean the arc before it was overextended for no reason other than filler and it was pretty boring, and then the most important stuff was went over terribly fast, like 10 chapters fast. I was extremely disappointed today when the story ended because the epilogue was so terrible I couldn't believe Er Gen could write this. I had expectations that MC would go to the main universe and meet with MC's of his other works or at least explore it for several chapters but we didn't even see MC's reunion with his friends and family from his own universe...

Novel was very good at the beginning, I especially liked the game aspect of it (the leveling, items, skills...) and kingdom building, however that went down the drain when he started traveling trough the universe (basically going to other planets / worlds). From there on, you can basically see that author didn't try his best at writing the novel, since there were way less explanations about new things, plot as well as the character interactions felt rushed, etc...

Another good point was that the MC wasn't very annoying, he was quite... more>> bearable and stayed (somewhat) consistent to his character till the end. <<less

This novel was surprisingly awesome. In short, it's basically like Onepunch Man, but instead of trolling shounen series this one trolls isekai novels. Basically most of the people MC kills would be protagonists in other isekai novels, I mean you have slave harem protagonists, self-righteous hero protagonists, ultra-cheat ability protagonists, etc... And as soon as they meet MC (or anyone else for that matter) they expect him to bow his head to them and praise them for their achievements or w/e and you can expect what happens when he doesn't... more>> do that and they try to kill him -

Spoiler

they die, instantly.

[collapse]

For the most part, author took the advantage of the extreme contrast between how horrifying life is in the world MC was transported into (human life is worthless, country-level genocides everyday...) and how chill MC's everyday life is (since he solves all of his problems with 1 word) to maximize the humor in the story (and he done it very well might I say) but unfortunately it takes any sort of tension that might happen in the novel.

So, to conclude, I would recommend the novel for anyone that wants to see isekai genre trolled to it's maximum, a lot of humor and zero tension on the MC's side.

One thing that made me rate the novel lower than 5 stars (beside the zero tension because of insta death redundancy later in the story) was

Spoiler

When the 2nd translation group took over, they kinda screwed it up. Half of the later chapters are missing, so I had to scavenge on pirate sites for the chapters and those seemed like they were machine translated so it lowered my reading experience by a lot...

Quite an enjoyable story. It isn't too brutal but it isn't all sunshine and rainbows (though it's leaning more toward the good side), i'd say it's a simple story meant for enjoyment and to pass time, not for deep thinking. It's focused on the main character which was transported from the real world to a game-like one and showing off his op-ness and road to becoming a demon king while making new friendship, bonds and protecting the ones he holds dear. There are quite a few stereotypes and cliches here... more>> and there but I have to give credit because there weren't glaring errors like sudden changes of attitude for any of the characters or inconsistencies in plot like in most other novels.

The ending felt a bit rushed, as nearly all of the secrets and foreshadows were revealed durning and after the last battle (last ~10 chapters) but it doesn't feel so bad as it was nicely closed up with the epilogue and side stories (which I personally found very sweet).

Other Characters beside the MC are likable and decent and show actual emotions appropriate to situations and aren't there just to worship MC on every action he does (they do praise him, but it isn't their only purpose in the story). Side characters get development on their own and they progress throughout the story. I guess some people might get annoyed since the closest aide of MC is a protagonist on his own - he has almost as much screentime as the MC and also has a harem but for the most part he is clueless about it while being smart and there are often jokes on how he is a protagonist in his own right from the MC.

As for his girls, they feel like real women and aren't there just to satisfy MC or be a part of his collection. MC has actual feelings for them, treats them well and there has to be quite some time spent between them for feelings of love to develop. Some of the girls are pure and naive and some are acquisitive and lean to plotting, they all have different personalities and none of them are 1-dimensional dolls. Romance isn't over the top but it isn't terrible either, i'd say it was properly executed and a nice refreshment from all those ''Love at first sight'' types.

Protagonist is pretty likable and moderate at what he does which I always support. For me, it doesn't matter if the MC is evil or good, if he is moderate in it and not going from one extreme to another. He is also not hypocritical and author doesn't ever try to make him out to be which is a big plus (doing evil things while saying it's good) . There was also some sort of a compensation for his overwhelming op-ness in a form that even his enemies and other characters are buffed way more than they should be. The only problems I had is that he kinda adjusts his mentality from a high schooler to a prince too fast (there was a paragraph about him supposed to feel trauma after his first kill but it was skipped for some reason) and the fact that he is too amenable (people drag him into other missions and he accepts them without much skepticism which feels more like a game mission and not the one you get in an actual reality). <<less

As a very short novel, it did it's job pretty good. U shouldn't expect the characters to be extremely developed neither can you expect much of their backstories shown as the novel is short, but the mystery aspect of it was amazing as well as the interaction between the characters, especially between the male and female lead, it also depicted the characters as realistically as possible. Unfortunately, I can't rate it 5 stars, since I'm not a very big fan of mystery novels but it's a nice refreshment after all... more>> those mindless deus ex machinas from fantasy novels. <<less

First of all, let me say this novel isn't for the people with a weak heart. With that being said, you can expect horrific depictions of cruelty being shown.

The world is extremely dark and almost everyone is evil and being a douche to others not because he gets any benefit but just because he can. I haven't seen a collective consciousness of humanity so evil in any other novel (not even in GADW, and worst of humans were eating babies there, here it's a common thing). Beside humans killing and... more>> torturing each other, they treat every other intellectual and humanoid race worse than animals with their reasoning being : ''We allowed you to live, so we can do whatever we want with you.''

The novel is very edgy and dark, and the only reason I rated it with 3 stars is because of the mysteriousness and foreshadowing that is thrown often and the MC - he is one of the most well done ruthless characters here. He stays consistent, actually has a reason to transform from a naive high-schooler to a killer and doesn't get fazed by seduction, cruelty, etc... Also, I don't see him getting any kinder for the foreseeable future, as he knows that the world he is in is sh*t and nearly everyone is a scumbag. But even after all that, he still has emotions and can show kindness and love to someone who he is close with (though that's very rare). <<less

Ugh... I really shouldn't have red this... At least there wasn't any permanent damage done, since the story was short, and it can be finished in 2-3 days. Bad character development and interactions, badly inserted chakra system in cultivation world and bad ending. Only thing that wasn't absolutely terrible, was the MC - he was bad, but there wasn't over the top plot armor or him, neither was the logic bending for him.

Pretty good novel with a good amount of Dao based stuff slided trough the novel and the overpowered MC that crushes all obstacles with invincible might (and sometimes with his wits).

Spoiler

This novels protagonist is basically the teacher of numerous MC's and has a ridiculously large past so you shouldn't be surprised when he calls everyone ants [and has the means to back it up].

[collapse]

For the harem, I don't really know what to think, since MC usually just teases his girls and in some special cases kisses them, so it doesn't really feel like they are in his harem, more like his attendants / staff.

For people who don't like repetitive plot, I wouldn't recommend this to you, because this is literally happening all the damn time !
Spoiler

Like, every time he leaves for another world, same stuff happens - he joins some small influence / sect, gets ostracized and underestimated there, shows everyone he is supreme and gets into the top position within that sect. Later some arrogant young masters provoke him and his sect, he deals with them after countless chapters of bickering then the young masters elders or ancestors come in and same things happens like it was with young masters. This happens several times, until its established that he is the strongest in the world he is currently in, and then some supreme ancient existence comes into being and fights the final battle of that arc with him which somehow ejects him from that world into another. Between the battles he usually meets some old monster from his past, and we get some backstory, and more insight into the world in general.

[collapse]

For the cultivation, I guess it's okay, since it has a different system from the others and its quite diverse, but unfortunately MC's cultivation is basically irrelevant since he has tons of treasures and skills from his past.

Highly recommended if you love continuous face slapping of arrogant people and can stomach repetitive plot. <<less

The easiest way for me to describe this novel would be to call it an extreme pokemon world - the premise is similar, you catch monsters into your monster space (grimoire) but the difference is, you can also level yourself and your monster space beside the monsters you catch. Now why I say its an extreme pokemon world - because its waaay more lewd and brutal (there are descriptive s*x scenes, torturing and murders).

Main reason I rated it 2/5 is because the game elements (the thing that hooked me... more>> up to the novel in the first place) gets almost completely forgotten and it transforms into generic xianxia in the second half of the novel. Story also becomes more boring (in my opinion) later on, tons of stuff are forgotten till the end and the comedic aspect of the novel is almost non existent.

Ending was relatively rushed -
Spoiler

almost nothing was explained about the upper heaven (the second highest realm introduced in the story) , only 2-3 major clans and their leaders which participated in the final war, the final villain was somewhat easily crushed and bunch of other stuff

[collapse]

MC also has intense plot armor and is OP in every situation without any labor or having to do anything - his lineage and special skills that were bestowed upon him when he was reborn do basically everything for him. <<less

This novel represents a MC that was reincarnated into a goblin from a futuristic world after being killed by his female friend. It then depicts his life as a goblin in a medieval world of different races and magic trying to build his kingdom.

I personally liked it since the game elements are constant, and will probably stay till the end. Also liked the fact that MC doesn't change his personality in same situations (he kills when he needs to, he r*pes when he wants to), and I guess this is... more>> what chased away most of the people. They probably didn't like the fact the MC is evil and does what he wants to improve his living conditions and get satisfied, however it was never stated that MC is good and follows our modern day morals, was it ?

Recommend for people that love game elements, fast progression, and MC that doesn't care about morals and does what he wants. <<less

As many people said, this novel has many similarities with Reincarnator, though they do differ in some areas, some of those differences are bad, some good and some don't make too much difference. For example, this novel is much more MC centered with less progression and introduction of the side characters which makes them irrelevant for the most part, but on the other hand, you have tons of side characters in Reincarnator whom author gave too much attention only to be forgotten in the next arc and become completely irrelevant.

The... more>> thing this novel did worse was the plot armor / luckiness of the MC. I mean beside the fact that he was reincarnated and knew much of the stuff about the future, he was also extremely fortuious in those encounters and got much more than even he excepted, which made him almost godlike in the current tl-ed chapters (keep in mind that the story is barely over half-way done).

For the thing this novel did better and actually made me rate it so high, was the focus on the "game" elements which Reincarnator, sadly, put aside. By focusing on the game elements (stats, items, skills...) I mean that author still keeps them very much relevant to the story and keeps track of them almost every other chapter.

Overall, recommended to the people that like reincarnation stories filled with game elements, op (in this case almost godlike) MC and a pretty dark and gritty setting where everyone is out for each others head. <<less

Oh boy... was this novel was a mess...

It started out kinda interesting, mostly because of the MC but then things started spiraling out of control durning the mid-story.

MC was at first somewhat unique with how ruthless he was - slaughtering and torturing everyone that even looks his way, trampling on arrogant ants, brainwashing and raping girls without problem, he was actually more like a CN villain, but then, at some point he changed into your everyday, boring and average xianxia protagonist.

The biggest problem I had with the novel was with... more>> the story itself after it's mid-stage started. It started getting extremely confusing, MC was changing identities, he was going to different worlds all of a sudden and I couldn't really make out who was who and where was the story actually happening (the confusion part might be due to the bad quality of the mtl). Also the end was extremely bad with author making the MC go into a higher universe in the last 5 chapters and just axing the ending.

Overall, I would recommend reading only the first ~200 chapters and that's only IF you like ruthless MC's. <<less

True Martial World

Status: c1328
True Martial World is a pretty decent novel, same with Martial World, it has tons of potential and complexity which is being explored throughout the novel. However, in my opinion, True Martial World is even more complex and diverse than Martial World is concerning cultivation, insights and the supernatural aspect of the novel (techniques, laws, treasures, bloodlines...)

Concerning Yi Yun, the main character, I found him pretty likable as he shows human emotions appropriate to most of situations, be they sympathy for the weak that are being trampled, love... more>> and caring for his close ones, rage and hate for the cruel people and those that harm his friends and allies. He was also almost never hypocritical, which is a big plus for me since I loathe those kind of MC's the most. The bad points for him (at least in my opinion) were his unnaturally fast transition from a modern-earth average teenager to a middle-ages world setup cultivator in a matter of days, and the fact he sometimes acts rashly to deal out bashing on arrogant side characters which gets him and his friends in trouble.

About cultivation, it was amazing. I like it very much when the xianxia and xuanhuan novels have a cultivating system which is diverse and every next stage is completely different than the last. It also has special stages in every realm which make warriors differ from each other which I find is much better than just going from 1st to 10th level and then repeat with only the realm name being changed.. As for the other stuff concerning cultivation (laws, techniques, special abilities, treasures, alchemy, bloodlines...) that is also very complex and interesting and you can see that author tries hard to develop it trough the story and it is still very relevant even in the latest releases.

The story overall is pretty good, most of the plot was pretty interesting, there were some cliche and boring arcs, but they weren't so bad as they are usually only a few chapters long and they get replaced with interesting story and world-exploring pretty soon so it keeps you interested most of the time. There were some bad plot points like repetitiveness of story, the fact that is from earth being nearly completely irrelevant and some inconsistencies, but since the story kept me interested all the way till the latest chapter I won't take those stereotypes to heart and rage for them being present in the novel. <<less

Basically everything alenotbeer said in his review, and to add on that later on logic and math bend to fit the MC's endeavors. I initially wanted to give it a 1/5 score after I finished it (since I was triggered by how much time I spent reading this), but later on when I calmed down I decided against it. The novel did keep me reading it for 3.8k chapters and the only redeemable points it had (for me) were the huge amount of realms it had (i love introductions to... more>> new worlds / cultivation levels, etc... Which is basically the only thing that kept me going) and a decent romance in the first quarter of the story. <<less

A pretty different plot progression from other Mars' works. For me, it starts out kinda boring with a slow plot, but then it gets better in the mid-story.

Novel describes the life of a guy that has amnesia and a special ability that helps him thwart other people easily. MC is very manipulative, controls almost every situation and holds everything in his hands. He is basically a Deus-EX machina trough the story and doesn't get defeated by anyone - be it in power, poetry, art, seducing girls... anything.

Another good thing for... more>> me, is that MC doesn't change his personality all of a sudden, and doesn't show hypocritical behavior trough the story.

World building was pretty weak - the world wasn't very diverse and MC didn't explore much, but its to be expected since the story is quite short.

Harem was ok (?) I guess... He doesn't really love any of the girls beside the first one he meets (he even says so himself), but it was still decent on showing how he conquers them 1 by 1.

Overall, novel recommended for people that like quick story with OP and manipulative MC. <<less

Novel is okay in my opinion. I liked the first part of it the most, when the game elements were prevailing - kill monsters get lootboxes, exp and money. It was very good at the start, and pretty decent in the mid parts, but for the last 10 chapters it got extremely bad.
