A Wild Last Boss Appeared
October 21, 2016
Status: c125
A web novel with proper mystery from the beginning? This is good one, the author is planning ahead for this series, initial chapters seems to be generic isekai genre but it's developing into a proper adventure shrouded with mysteries. After a few introduction chapters and the gear is up, the tension is building up steadily in a good way. As the tag indicates, there's no romance in this series since adventures and unveiling the world takes priority. The MC is travelling around and with each place she gains more information... more>> about that world which surprisingly deeper than she initially thought. There are a lot of conspiracies going around her but she's rather decent to realize something is wrong and taking one step at a time to figure out things (she's not stupid but also not a genius, she's just like normal people), compared to dense protags who can't even realize their surroundings.

Ruphas as an MC is good, she's cool headed and smart enough to fend herself, she's not talkative but when she said something more often it's somewhat profound. Some of the side characters are also good, but unfortunately some others feels rather shallow after their initial story arc is over since they tend to be relegated into the background or being used as joke material. Aside from the MC, the blue haired girl on the cover is also developed into a good character.
Spoiler

And the next summoned the hero also good, he got good brain and not running headfirst into trouble as much of the other isekai MCs. He's rather careful but not a coward, if he needs to act he will act even though he's scared.

A dreary journal, it states events as matterly facts. To make it worse, there are nothing particularly interesting happened even when the author skipping dates which can ranged from days to years without prior notice. Imagine in the middle of a chapter where nothing happens, suddenly in the next paragraph the timeline jumped 2 years later yet still nothing happen. The author relied too much on exposition, he can go on and on and on endlessly while describing mundane matter that the readers already knows. For example he can spent... more>> half of the chapters explaining RPG status ailments, in the middle of a battle, as if the enemies are waiting for him explaining things and ruining the pace. It's as if the author took the readers as idiots that have to be spoonfeed with obvious explanations. Publisher decided to axe this series at the 4th volume since on later part of the story the pace become extremely slow with too much of characters and the point of view constantly changes. The publisher deemed it's not good enough to resume since it failed to rouse any reader's interest. As free web novel it might work but for published novel having the 3 volume of novel without anything happening will chase readers away. Though the author keep writing the continuation on the Web Novel. <<less

This series is written by the author of "Elf Tensei Kara no Cheat Kenkoku-ki", "Maou-sama Machizukuri!" and some other series. If you liked Elf Tensei then you'll probably likes this series too since it's using similar formula, but that also means negative aspects from it also carried over here.

Positively even though it's the jaded trope of redo a life for revenge, the author managed to make it flowing rather naturally and engaging. Since the author is rather seasoned writer, the plot is easy to follow and read. The MC is... more>> rather cunning and tricky maybe appealing to some readers.

Negatively, harem will ruin some of the mood similar with his other series. He is extremely ruthless and unforgiving toward males but hypocrite/soft toward females. Along with the story progression he will have girls following his orders. If you don't like out of the place harem it will probably feels a little bit annoying. <<less

A brave knight named Oersted, a hero beloved by the people, defeats his best friend, the wizard Straybow, in the final round of a fighting tournament, winning the right to marry Princess Alicia of Lucretia. That night, she is kidnapped by the Demon King. The next day, Oersted and Straybow set out to rescue her. First, they find the heroes who defeated the Demon King thirty years prior, the knight Hash and the priest Uranus, and convince them to join. They fight and defeat the Demon King, but Hash dies due to the plague, Alicia is nowhere to be found, and Straybow is seemingly killed by falling rocks. Oersted and Uranus return to Lucretia in defeat. That night, Oersted is tricked into slaying the King of Lucretia by an apparition of the Demon King after seeing what looks like Straybow exit his room. He is accused of being the Demon King himself, and he is later imprisoned. Uranus, who is also a prisoner for being a "demon ally", uses the last of his strength to help him escape. Oersted returns to the mountain of the Demon King and finds Straybow alive, having faked his own death. Straybow reveals that, out of jealousy for Oersted, he sold his soul to become the next Demon King, and tricked Oersted into killing the King. Oersted is forced to kill him. He then rescues Alicia, but she confesses her love for Straybow and blames Oersted's heroism for Straybow's fall to evil, she then kills herself. Oersted, in his grief, searches through his memories and realizes that he no longer has anything to believe in, anyone to love, and that he has nowhere to go. Oersted snaps, sacrifices his soul to become the next Demon King, and names himself Odio, deciding to teach humans "the folly of their selfishness". He then takes revenge on all of Lucretia, killing everyone.

Then it's turned into mindless edgelord chuuni story..... We've got a lot of heroes turned evil series already with some of them are pretty acceptable but some are cringy, this series is probably the best contender on the most cringy series among it's peers.

The story only consist of the MC mindlessly slaughtering goddesses and heroes. There's no catharsis in it since the people who he slaughters are basically innocents or doing nothing to him before he turned edgy, heck what should be his object of revenge has already been dead in the first chapter lol. Later he just acts like edgelord and spew chuuni lines such as "Curse your own fate for being born as heroes/goddess."

The author then introduces annoying characters in an attempt to make the MC seems justified to kill them, cheap lazy trick... <<less

.......... LOL outrageous 2 years old boy reforming a territory. Even though he's reincarnated from modern era, he doesn't have memory related cheats yet he seemingly have google for brain. He's one after another introducing random technologies and knowledge from modern era as the author see fit, regardless the fact that a modern layman won't be needing that knowledge in the first place. I mean, if you're not living as a botanist can you remember spesific plant characteristics which rarely touched upon on real life? Or do you know how... more>> to create biomass briqquetes as an office worker? The MC is having in-depth knowledge about agriculture, fishing industry, wood processing, drawing, machinery, art, martial art, etc. All over the place.

Some of Japanese readers also rising this concern, but the author's reply seems like he failed to understand the point that he's not using "GOOGLE" but doing "research by reading books from LIBRARY". It's the same thing for f**k sake, the author himself even needs to visit library! Look at it from the character's POV! He doesn't have the luxury of modern library to know and remember about these modern knowledges! At least give him a cheat of [absolute memory] or something to back him out of the incomprehensible "remembering about every random trivias he needs to know at the moment which miraculously is the solution for the problem at hands."

I can accept it if the MC is an expert at something in the past life so if he used that knowledge it's normal. For example if a former blacksmith remembering smithing techniques. Or a former accountant remembering double entry accounting and using her economic knowledge to reform her territory is also acceptable. They're expert at their field expertise and using it as advantages but they're not "know it all", they don't randomly remember out of left field trivias.

And also, 2 years old boy acting like an adult but nobody cares like it's a common thing. WTF. And the villains are made to be villain just to fill the role of villain. I always pitying this kind of villain because they're just fodder, created by the author and being forced to act villainous without any reason aside from being the stepping stone for the MC later. <<less

To make a girl love you, be a persistent scum!
Spoiler

The male lead is a scum 90% of the series and the MC hates him, but by 10% of the story the author forced the guy to change into a good guy and then the girl magically just accept him.

[collapse]
What made me confused were that this story was written by a girl, I mean does her imagination of prince charming is a stalker, cheater and insencere guy? So if the guy hurt her all the time once the guy act apologetic she will immediate fall in love with him again? And she's not even saying gratitute to the guy who actually helped her (she even realized that she's making use of this guy's kindness) ?

Both the MC and the male lead are scum, so maybe that's actually a fitting pairing.

Could have been a good story if it has focused direction, this series tend to move into random direction. Sometimes it feels like there are lots of logic leaps, like from A suddenly becomes K and then suddenly becomes C. Most of the time there's no logical reason for it, "it just happened to be like that, just ignore it. You lose if you mind." I know this is comedic in nature but the leaps feels jarring even for comedic standard.

The MC is always in high-tension that seems suppossed to... more>> be funny but because most of the times it's self-deprecating jokes it becomes awkward to read. <<less

The Elf Is a Freeloader

This is a story before my pet is holy maiden timeline featuring the elf El's past life when she's transported from another world to earth. Mostly fluffy slice of life fantasy meets modern world setting, with some bits of romance, a relaxing story. The MC is a little bland though, the usual Japanese nice but bland teenager; El and the side characters are the one making the story moving along. There's romance but it's not the focus of the story until near the end of the series and wrapped up... more>> rather quick. It's quite a short novel ending at chapter 55, it's a decent read in short time. <<less

This one is... having quite good initial idea that demon lord is not always the bad guys, it's just a matter of false propaganda. Though at later parts the pacing sometimes feels extremely awkward, there will be a lot of times in a tense scenes suddenly the author insert background stories of the characters in the whole chapter; imagine captain Tsubasa anime when he was about to kick the ball he remembers about his childhood story that took one episode before finally the ball is kicked. And sometimes the characters... more>> are talking too much that it's contradicting the time spent in a scene, for example in a scene where they should be in a hurry with a time limit to do something, they instead talk leisurely which probably spent more time talking than doing the job properly; this time imagine ultraman with time limit but instead of fighting he keep talking for 6 minutes while his power only last for 7 minutes. That and the author introduced too much characters in short time that sometimes they seems disappearing since only few of them matters in the story,
Spoiler

in this case the 22 demon lords introduced but less than 10 people ever talk up or doing something until c70

Isekai Shoukan Makikomu Ijousha

The author is an amateur and she did admit the fact (she's a high schooler), she realized her words/story are childish that after some Japanese readers told her about it she revised the earlier part of her story, so read it with that in mind. Well, in conclusion it's raw and unpolished. She relied heavily on template events used in isekai genre, after that he become OP with time skip. Aside from the main character and the childhood friend neechan the other characters are not developed at all, even the... more>> maid vampire who have been with the MC for around 60 chapters are not developed from her only traits which is a yandere. You don't have to worry skipping the heroes side chapters, nothing detrimental to the main story and they are rather boring. Newer characters also doesn't help much,
Spoiler

a battle maniac masochist elf who likes strong enemies, it's one trick pony character. Once the gap between normal taciturn into masochist is known, there's not much to explore in her character.

[collapse]

The most interesting character is the neechan, both the MC and her having quite interesting past (to be honest the past arc are the best story that the author managed to pull, and if she wrote that as a separate story it's rather decent compared to the main story line), too bad the author didn't utilize her more and instead made the MC stuck with the vampire girl. <<less

Sir, I Can’t Actually Read My Status

This series is another entry of over-powered main character but because of some reason being seen as incompetent trope. If in another series some of them tried to create a reasonable reason to actually regard them as incompetent, in this series the author didn't bother to explain other than he got an unreadable status window. No matter how strong he actually is he's considered an incompetent, even if the MC beats hordes of S rank adventurers he will stay at E rank and deemed too dangerous for him to take... more>> D rank missions.

After a few introduction chapters to tell the readers about MC's background, this is a series more often written from side characters' perspective. It's written to show their surprise and admiration reactions seeing how OP the MC is even though he's the eternally lowest rank adventurer, about how the MC usually comes in the nick of times saving them from disasters.

Currently the first arc is very straighforward, not too good but also not too bad. If you can put a blind eye on the forced "incompetent stamp" being placed on the MC it's entertaining to some degree. Though similarly with other series using this trope, people close to him knows that he's OP. <<less

Cute, since the translated chapter looks interesting and the available chapters are few, I tried to read ahead and found that this is a funny series. When it needs to be funny it's funny and when it needs to be cool it's cool, this series know how to do both in balanced manner. The side characters are fun, though the most oddball character probably is the MC's father and his vanguard maniac mindset and the reason why he became like that, oh and her mother is funny too lol.

The relationship... more>> between the characters on the story is at most similar to "Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?" with girls bonding in friendship and rivalry, there's actually no real shoujo ai development as the tag suggesting. It's just a playful teasing but maybe people with yuri cravings take it seriously... <<less

I Refuse to be a Supporting Character
October 4, 2018
Status: Completed
Pretty standard romance, not bad but also not that great. The way the MC and male leads falls in love is pretty cliche, ML: she dared to kick me in the nut, awesome! She's my true love and obsession from now on! Hands off her you guys! FL: he's a creepy guy at first, but hey he's rich, handsome, young and he helps me slap people's faces!

The story itself is fine but there's some unnecesary side plots going on which feels it adds nothing to the story (particularly towards the... more>> end of the story, after they resolved the original premise of the novel). The story is strecthed for a bit into some trivial characters plot, in which some of them didn't even appearing in the previous chapters, giving us some weird comeuppance for a supposed villain which never actually done anything so bad yet to the MC in her current reitiration other than mild annoyance. We also got a random plot point appearing and immediately resolved at the last chapters which never even mentioned to the readers before it, so it feels like 'is this necessary?' So instead of using the end to show us the final fate of the actual important characters, we got unimportant side characters and randomly appearing characters got their comeuppance. <<less

A Sequel for the Villainess?

This is a mess, even in the original Japanese. Even in Japanese there's a lot of awkward grammar/spelling mistakes that some native Japanese readers pointed out that it feel like this is written by a foreigner in an imperfect/awkward Japanese. Actually, the author lives in Florida based on the author's own activity report...

The story jumps around without any care for pacing; the MC is an extremely passive doormat which means the story progresses along without her input at all - she only retorted inside her mind without actually voicing... more>> it at all; characters are written in in a very random fashion and we as the reader have to guess who the hell are they since the author didn't even bother to explain; almost all the characters are braindead; ridiculously convenient but contrived deus ex machina one after another; and lastly, the punchline/moral at the end of the series is actually contradicting the whole story itself
Spoiler

The MC said to a reincarnator that she have been living in that world for years and it won't be like the game- that as long as people lives everything will change- she said that as if she have done anything significant in the whole story while actually she didn't. She's a doormat that's just being tossed around by her surrounding, and being lucky at the end for doing absolutely nothing. Her good ending is completely done via deus ex machina/plot armor.

Also if the moral is that the world is not a game, then why every single character is still acting like a very shallow and stupid game character? They didn't feel like a living characters at all. The characters are forced to be incredibly retarded so the MC can have her spotlight.

[collapse]

Hmmm, subpar series only read if you're bored. It's not bad/atrocious but it also don't have advantage with it's peers on the same genre. It's... forgetable, to be honest I'm just reading it when I'm bored and I often forget the storyline and characters since it's not memorable...

The title is a sham, even if the MC is a summoner, it never becomes anything important. When people hear summoning skills pretty sure they will expect the user to summon various creatures to do the attack, but in this series the MC... more>> just whacks the enemies with meele weapon... plus he is SO MUCH STRONGER than his 'summons', what's the point of 'summoning skill' then...? To make things worse, the MC making contracts with normal humans as summon so they're basically never being summoned at all since they're always materializing like normal party members. The MC almost never "summon" anything in the whole series lol, scratch that, he only used summoner skill once in the whole 300+ chapters... <<less

Needless murder. That's the whole point of this series, nothing else, everybody will be killed later by the MC just for petty reason, then forgotten soon.

Even the ending is noncommittal, that the author resuming it on a thousand years timeskip gaiden series with the same MC just to start another whole killing festival, with new characters to kill. A guy obsessed with a gacha (lottery) based RPG like game got transported to another world. This story will only be amusing if you're at least have played similar gacha games to know the MC's interests, other than that it will feel a little bit bland.

There's no continuous plot, the arcs are episodic which have no real connections with each other. The main point of the story is the MC trying to collect the needed items to pull gacha by fighting monsters. The MC's party barely interact with that world's... more>> inhabitants aside from when they're doing quests.

For the gacha itself, usually each arcs have different type of gacha events which probably funny if you've played them in real life. Although the title is getting girls army, person type gacha is extremely rare so don't worry about the harem getting way too big to care. 99% of the time the MC only got item type gacha in which some of them are prank items. <<less

I Somehow Got Strong By Raising Skills Related To Farming

The story is betraying the whole premise it set up un the beginning. The title said he become strong because of farming skills, but that's a bull, he only being strong for less than 30 chapters then he becomes a useless guy which always running away from orcs that wanted to rape him. It's a running gag that the author thought it's funny but it's not. He can just punch the orcs and be done with it but he always running away like a sissy, and other characters have to... more>> save him by killing the weak orcs for him. It completely breaks the MC's character.

Other than that, this WN is full of inconcistencies, deus ex machina, forced plot twists one after another, random filler inserts right after introducing an important problem and ended up ignoring it for far too long, introducing something which seemingly important but being scrapped away in the middle of the story (I'm looking at you, "status card", "skill acquisition" and "status"). <<less

It's written by the popular but incompetent LN author Miki Nazuna, so expect less to none character bulding, nonsensical world/system, cutboard harem, a lot of plot hole etc. You can check out his other works which have been translated further to know this author's style.

Even the already translated chapters in the series have already shown it's downsides: childish fights which only served to show the MC is uber strong and 'cool', not so subtle racial discrimination insert by the author, real world animal abuse theme (killing bears in mountain just... more>> to get meagre exp, and he just left the carcases there since he doesn't need anything at all from the bear), etc.

Well, proceed with caution if you want to read further. <<less

This series is a seemingly novel idea but with bad execution. As a comedy the author is relying too much on slapsticks and puns instead of genuine funny situations. As a normal story the author just blazing through without caring to ground it with common sense, which if you don't completely shut your brain off you'll be wondering at a lot of nonsensical developments happening in the novel since it's not funny but plain weird.

The characters are shallow with some forced moments, it's like they're just being forced to act... more>> in their role like in a soap drama. The titular mother is actually just your usual moe-archetype character labelled as mother, it's kind of jaring and feels extremely disturbing. The MC on the other hands, his role is to do tsukkomi but he managed to be even more annoying than the boke. The supporting characters are forgetable. <<less
