Waiting For You Online

So far loving this and I keep refreshing for updates!

I like the characters very much. The way the ML nurtured his love for the MC gave me the feels. Imagine turning your teenage crush you briefly met online -- then gone AWOL for 8 years -- into someone you truly care for and then love is nothing short of amazing. The dedication and perseverance of the ML is just aww. The MC is older than the ML but the ML's EQ is higher so he is the anchor and driving... more>> force in the relationship so far. He is not super OP in the real world but in the game he is of course (why, he is the game's unofficial poster boy). Did I mention he has a swoon-worthy s*xy voice? I just imagine Junichi Suwabe's voice on my head when he speaks...

The MC is a relatable fella anxiously growing up under his mother's watch which suppressed his personality. He is less inhibited in-game which describes many online avatars/personas we have actually. Internet anonymity and all that. On another note, he doesn't feel completely useless unlike the MC in Love You 59 Seconds in that this guy actually have skills apparent in the real world and not everything was handed to him on a silver platter. Don't get me wrong, I loved LY59S with all the kyaa moments but I feel this novel has more fleshed out characters and depth. The side characters are much more interesting too! <<less

It’s Not Easy Being Your Love Rival’s Big Brother
June 29, 2018
Status: Completed
Enemies become lovers pretty much sums up this story. Events happen real quick that it could be days later in the story within a single paragraph. There's just the right amount of angst and realism involved as well that would tug your fujoshi/fudanshi heartstrings.

Our MC Wei Han does all sorts of hijinx towards our ML Qi Zhifan at first but since he's a good person at heart, hilarity ensues of what comes of them. It's refreshing to see a ML that does not fall for the MC immediately; in fact... more>> he had a pretty low opinion of Wei Han at the beginning. Our ML has the looks, wealth, and background befitting of a prince but he has many shortcomings which the in-world knows/finds about.

Translation is really well done with chapters released every day. I would give it a perfect rating just from that alone but there are some parts of the story that kept me from doing so. For example,
Spoiler

the way they got together was not some big romantic moment. If they didn't know each other, it could be pegged as a drunken one-night stand. Events that transpire after they done the deed was anti-climactic for me as well.

[collapse]
I wasn't that excited about it 3/4 into the story but I would still recommend this to anyone looking for a light, funny read.

P.S. Our main pair isn't the only one in this story, it also tells the story of Qi Zhifan's friend's puppy love ;) <<less

Every Day the Protagonist Wants to Capture Me

This is one of the better transmigration/erase-my-death-flags out there.

The MC is hilarious with his interactions with the system, protagonist, bro-con (yes!) of a brother, sect members, etc. The ML is not super OP or super special who's destined to conquer the world and 1-hit KOs anyone unfortunate to cross his path (which is a breath of fresh air), plus he's such a softie when faced with our MC. You can actually feel the depth of his feelings and the slow burn of seeing but not touching our MC. The MC... more>> is not some helpless damsel and can stand on his own even if the ML eventually gets more powerful than him. He can be dense towards the ML's regard (which is understandable since he was a straight guy to begin with) but he's actually pretty sharp and sensible. When he realized his feelings there was no violent denial and just wholeheartedly accepted it.

The side characters each have their own unique personality and the author goes through lengths of explaining why they act that way. I especially like how there's real threat and suspense in the story (not just face slapping and steamy scenes) and you'll never know what's coming. The action is lacking as a xianxia but the story is plot-driven and makes sense so it's enough for me. There's balance between progressing the general storyline and romantic development between our MC and ML each chapter -- not too slow or fast.

Overall, great main/side characters, plot, world-building, and translation quality. <<less

Lord and Dragon

Status: Completed
A story about a doesn't-realize-he's-being-a-flirt LORD and a can't-help-but-fall-into-the-deep-end DRAGON.

As a short story, this novel deserves a 5/5 imho. It's definitely fast paced with just the right amount of details and dialogue. So if you want a story with in-depth characterization, epic battles, NSFW scenes, lines and lines of dialogue, you get the idea -- this is not for you. But if you are in it for the sugar, suspense, quickly resolved angst (even the author addresses this), subtle hints (leaving some things to your imagination), plot twists, DRAGONS, believable... more>> fantasy world and story progression, then stop reading this review NOW and go read the story!

The translation is top-notch as well so everything flows very smoothly in English. Kudos to the translating team! <<less

The Legend of Sun Knight
February 17, 2018
Status: Completed
This novel has a special place in my heart not only because it is my very first CN novel, but also everything about it is unforgettable. The characters, plot, writing, and translation are spot on. I remember being in stitches when I first read this, and then some in my 2nd reading. It was that funny.

Grisia/Sun Knight is your overly verbose, unassuming, sarcastic (mostly in his mind), carefree, kind, and loyal leader of the knights. He is the guy who schemes and manipulates but has the best interest in mind... more>> of those closest to him. He is unafraid to sacrifice himself for the better good. He has the adoration of the public, the respect and trust of those who know him, and the wariness of those who really really know him.

His secret best friend is the Judgment Knight. Their friendly association can't be known to the public because of the image they have to maintain. Think of it as light and dark should not mix. "What you don't know won't hurt you" is Judge's creed when it comes to Sun's ploys. He's become mostly jaded to Sun's antics as they grew up but would nonetheless help out his bff when push comes to shove. Ahhh the bromance~

Overall the characterization sets this story apart from the rest. It is the contrasting and myriad of personalities that gives the hilarity and fun of this novel. Some stories you forget and some leave a deep impression. This is 100% the latter. <<less

The Path of the Cannon Fodder’s Counterattack

I binge read this for 2 days and everything is still fresh so I wanna strike while the iron is hot.

It's different from other transmigration stories I've read so far because here we have 2 people -- a boy (MC) and a girl -- who traveled into the past. Said boy was foolishly, blindly in love with the girl in the 21st century when they got sent into the ancient world where he loved her for another 10 years until, after getting everything she wanted, the girl poisoned him to... more>> his death. Then comes the reincarnation when they just entered the imperial harem. Now the MC wants his revenge on the girl for killing him and of course what better way to do it than hugging the golden thigh of the most powerful man -- the emperor himself.

PROS (things I liked) :

    • had a good laugh of the MC's clever antics; he is extremely smart and level headed but his fear of the emperor was sometimes too extreme (though I think anyone from the present who get sent back in the past will feel the same)
    • the romance was developed nicely and we slowly see each character's love-interest become more "beautiful" in their eyes; beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and as readers we experience such in the author's descriptions
    • good character development especially the general's
    • everything was wrapped up pretty nicely at the end (the general's was really poignant T_T)
    • a light read but do note there will be deaths and hidden intrigue/schemes
CONS (rather things I wish the author had written more about or disliked) :

    • the MC and the girl's background in the 21st century could have been explained better
    • their first time was a bit forced for me, not exactly very romantic
    • more interactions between the MC and ML before the rebirth
**This is completely translated in the TL's website. Not sure why it's not labelled such in NU. <<less
