Tales of the Reincarnated Lord

Disclaimer: If you like very cliche'd XianXia novels don't this review and just skip to the book. For your mental health and my own.

Like most books on this website this story has the skeleton of a good story; unlike most stories on here it has more than that. The sad fact is, that instead of skin, organs, muscles, etc. It is like all that got partially digested and we are reading the end product. I found it easy to find pieces of the story that are complete and amazing. I... more>> also, find sludge that I can't make heads or tails of. At the very least when you start reading it isn't fully digested.

Take the exposition for example, It starts off amazing in the first chapter. The story reeks of fantasy from the word 'go'; it really got me hooked. It wasn't poorly written or translated. The quality of the translation doesn't drop, but when I got to chapter 8 and the MC had his first flash back it was incredibly frustrating. The author (s) showed that they could create an entire world without breaking the cardinal rule of exposition, NO f**kING FLASHBACKS. (Yes there are ways to do it well, these guys did it in the worst way possible.) Seeing what this author can do made me want to read more and see if it improved. It did not, there were simply more and more flashbacks. It was like the author (s) were just f**king with us the whole time; seeing what they could get away with. ''Well now that we have proven that we can write well and completely lets not.'' Says the first author '' What a splendid idea.'' Says the second. This leads us to the first love interest.

She is the worst kind of person, and both the author, and by extension, the MC have nothing against her.
Spoiler

The relationship between the two is incredibly one-sided, and everyone just seems to blame the MC, in some small margin, for their break-up. He has done nothing but give, and the love interest has done nothing but take.

The only reason you should read this book is if you are an aspiring novelist, and you want clear cut examples of good and bad exposition.

Someone has literally taken a dump on anything resembling good writing and posted it to the internet. I know very well that even sh*t stains can pass off as great writing in this community. In summary this is an objectively bad book that I know many of you who are reading this will love. I am confident to say that this is objectively bad, because two buildings can be just as beautiful as each other, but if one has a rotten foundation it is worse. As soon as someone stands in the wrong spot the whole building is coming down, and for this book that spot is chapter 8 and beyond.

(P.S. I refuse to torture myself with reading more, and yes I know how much that hurts my integrity.) <<less

The translation is not of high quality, the story is full of plot holes, and the story is full of plot holes. Great idea (blegh) for a book, but there is the small problem of it not being consistent with the reality it has created. If you do start reading this the first thing you notice is why would her best friend do that to her when there was much more to come after the game ended. Or this f**king game, that doesn't simulate the enviorment that these people need... more>> to get used to. Not only that but it goes above and beyond to distance them from what they need to face later. 'They will emerge all alone in this new world, so lets make the simulation have a developed society.' 'They won't retain any magical or special skills they learn in there so we must make them incredibly important.' 'They obviously need to not know about how their own body will function when they emerge so let's make them into superhumans in the game.' Oh and f**king plot conveniences have already started appearing not even twenty chapters in. I mean huge plot conveniences. Just look at why the MC didn't kill the boy she meets right after she starts, or the skills that he has, or that she is willing to go out on a limb to protect him just because he can harvest herbs a bit better than her. Just don't read this it isn't worth your time, and it is a shame that good books like reign of the hunters and rebirth of a thief who roamed the world get recommended as similar to this. <<less

It is a good book, with an awesome protagonist. The protagonists motivations while not forced, she seems to have changed on a dime. Other than that the only problem with this book would be that the goons are getting to many sponsored chapters and end up rushing the releases leading to simple mistakes. If I had to make a choice this book is better than RoTRW.

There isn't a away to display this in the stars, so I hope you read the review.

I would give this book a 7/10. It is light hearted fun, and most people will probably like it if you can get past some awkward cliches. The cliches, are few and far between however. Taming Master is about the life of a gaming addict; I think it does a great job of showing that.

Main Character Hides His Strength

I want to start off by saying that I obviously haven't finished the book, and I think the fact that I can't has lowered my opinion of it. This book was not made to be read slowly. I feel like the author is trying to come up to some big reveal about the reason that no one (not even the mc) seems to care about the massive number of slaves, or the caste system they are living in. This combined with the slightly ridiculous premise makes me want to just... more>> take this as a light hearted book, but then the setting is a completely distoppian world on the brink of collapse. I say that this book isn't meant to be read slowly is all we know about the mc's motivation

I'm fine with a book being secretive about their mc's history and motivations and the story has done a great job with that (one of the best parts about it). The author however, has decided to leave so many questions that should have obvious answer that would give away nothing, and only serve to flesh out the world, blank. It is a great story once you get past the setting, premise and, tone (things that have no plot relevance obviously). I suppose what I'm complaining about is a common theme among web novels; the authors seem to have no f**king clue what they want their story to mean. Look at each chapter individually and they are all great, put them together and it becomes lack luster. There are books that have put the tone together by pure accident such as 'Epoch of Twilight'; wherein the characters' actions make sense if you think hard about them, but the narration seems to have no f**king clue why.

I feel like everything I read on here is half a book from the beginning (aside from the fact they are half translated). An example would be a book where the whole thing is set up to be grim and the characters under lots of stress; the tone will suddenly shift from grim to a laughable situation (or worse echi). It is completely normal for people under lots of stress to joke around light heartedly, and I find that when they do one of 2 things happen, the narrator/ descriptions will change with it into a incredibly light hearted scene; or the author will repeatedly bash your face into to it yelling "LOOK I UNDERSTAND BASIC HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY, PRAISE ME PLEBIANS" well something similar. I find the later to be obnoxious and the former to be boring. This book is definitely the former (Epoch to the latter and yet the former at the same time; it is really a mess). Now all that being said, and despite all its flaws the book is probably one of the best you will find on this site. No matter what is said, in the end almost everyone on here is either a new writer, or a professional ametuer. If I had to pick ones who have a good amount of promise it would be ones like 로드워리어 and Road Warrior.

P.S. I think I got a bit side tracked <<less

Besides what others say about the MC being unable to express his feelings it feels more like he is intentionally misleading people into having conflicts with him ... more>>
Spoiler

the first instance of this is how he and Mu Yu Die have a falling out for the reason that she and her body guard won’t give up on getting revenge for their family after spending a few months with him.

[collapse]
Spoiler

later on a different love interest in very similar circumstances decides to not follow him for the sake of her family. In both cases the love interest was in the dark about his back ground, but for some reason he acted like the most entitled douche in the world and the second time he reacted like a normal person.

[collapse]
Spoiler

probably one of the most infuriating things is how at the beginning of the story the MC gets the entire cultivation of those killed near him yet slightly later on as in like 20 chapters it changes and he now seems to get very little cultivation from them. He kills two people at one large realm higher than him and advances one small realm. Also the energy that was previously able to make him lose his mind can be solved with no repercussions by having s*x once.

[collapse]
Spoiler

the author has made it more than clear that the mcneeds air to survive in the disaster realm and yet he is able to spend SEVEN months under a literal mountain of lava and is somehow not troubled for oxygen not only that but with an entire mountain’s weight on him he doesn’t even say anything about it. It is almost like the author thinks lava is a weightless substance that is breathable to humans.

[collapse]
Spoiler

the main love interest is severely injured and her best friend blames the MC for it. He becomes happy because he found out how to heal her the friend sees him happy and thinks he is happy about the main love interest’s injury as she has never as much as seen him before. Instead of explaining that the mythical fire that everyone was aware he had told him how to heal her he treats her and her concern about someone he loves dearly with total disdain. He acts as if her assumptions are correct doesn’t explain how he can heal the love interest nor how he knows a method that some of the biggest powers couldn’t find out. Then blames her for jumping to conclusions. So he makes a bet with her to totally demean someone who is just acting out of care for a dear friend, a friend who the MC is in love with. Why would he act like such a entitled baby just because someone said a few mean words to him in a time of distress, cuz f**k her that’s why. I mean that quite literally it is because he wants to f**k her and that is assuming that he has any motivation at all to do this to her.

If you look at the list of recommendations, then don't. Those books are a stain on this one. Some on that list are quite good, but none of those come close to making you feel like that you are in a gladitorial tournament with the continuation of your species on the line. The only thing on that list I could recommend would be Seoul Station Necromancer, but for completely different reasons.
