Had a good start but seems to follow the same pattern as the gate of good fortune... MC goes somewhere -> some random guy suddenly gets offended to the point where he has to kill the MC at any cost ->MC flees somewhere -> Repeat. In short, the author tends to create drama over nothing

Absolutely one of my favorites, both the novel and the translator. Although it doesn't seem like much, the translator ramblings after each chapter often make me reflect on what I've just read and give me a deeper understanding of the story. I wouldn't mind seeing more translators do something like that.

As for the novel... beautiful world-building, many complex characters with their own logic reasoning and a MC that relies on his skills and using them to their fullest extent to achieve his two main objectives: survive and get jingshi!
Definitely... more>> worth reading. <<less

The plot is rather generic. MC's family is annihilated, everyone ridicules him and suddenly out of nowhere an absurdly powerful legacy including a powerful instructor fall into his hands and henceforth he's part of the heaven-defying-genius-club. The way the characters interact are sometimes somewhat "shounen"-like (for example there's an overly affectionate "older sister"-type). The description of the world and cultivation system feel somewhat rushed.

Overall it's an "ok" read (3/5).

Martial Arts Master

Like the authors other novel, Throne of Magical Arcana, this one also avoids most of the typical xianxia/xuanhuan cliches. So far there are no jealous young masters, no "ice-cold-beauty", no instant-love, no tragedy/revenge plot, no powerful families/sects oppressing everyone not belonging to them, no overly arrogant yet weak young masters or generally anyone trying to kill the MC. This alone makes the novel worth reading.

The story is about a young university student joining the martial arts club, initially to get closer to his crush. As he optains a "treasure" his... more>> training progresses fast and he gets infatuated in martial arts. So far the novel focused on his training and social life/interaction with his crush and also on martial arts in general.

The beginning is a bit boring and slightly confusing but bear with it. In the past few chapters the MC had his first public appearance and the story is gaining momentum.

Reincarnation into a different world isn't a great way to justify the MCs powers and it makes the first few chapters appear somewhat sloppy. However the "reincarnation-perks" loose in significance and are barely mentioned at all in the later chapters. Instead the MCs hard work and wits are what drives the story.

The world and characters are inspired by western fantasy and you'll find a few things a lot of chinese novels lack, for example strong female characters in terms of character and strength, no general degradation of women to mere... more>> objects of desire and, what surprised me the most,

open lesbianism.

What I especially like about this novel is how the author blends the two identities of the MC

sorcerer and genius musician

into one person.
If the story continues the way it goes now I can only recommend reading it (5/5). <<less

The story starts out lighthearted with a rather mischievous but overall kind MC. Later on the story get's increasingly darker with continuous setbacks for the MC. I'm not quite sure yet where the story is headed but if you came here for the 'Comedic Undertone'-tag this story might not be for you. Personally I like it though.

Not particularly innovative but so far very entertaining to read, espcially the MC's shameless and vulgar actions are quite comical. It's a bit too early to judge story, world-building and character developement but so far it looks very promising.
