Shura’s Wrath

It was enjoyable at first, a standard VR MMO novel with an overpowered protagonist from the start, and interesting plot twists. After c400 or so it starts to go downhill, with several chapters spent humiliating Japanese characters (which is a bit of a trope in these kinds of novels). Dropped it at 432 because of a solid ten chapters of peeping, blackmail, molestation, and physical abuse. No bueno.

I'm going to keep reading it since I'm already this invested, but you might want to give this one a pass, or skim through once it's wrapped up. The start was pretty neat, and it has a similar premise to Emperor's Domination or Histrory's Strongest Senior Brother, in that it has an overpowered/godly character being reincarnated as a weakling.

It doesn't have the staying power of those stories, however; it falls into the usual trap of Wuxia novels this long, which is to keep stretching out and repeating the same plot... more>> points with slightly stronger enemies in a slightly higher level location.

If you're really into standard Wuxia, go ahead and read it. Otherwise, skip. <<less

My favourite Chinese webnovel. It's not quite 'meta', but it does subvert or ignore several of the normal Wuxia tropes. It's nice to have an MC who is not overpowered from the jump; he fails repeated, has to run away, or has to rely on his companions. It also manages to avoid harems, and even romance for the most part.

If you want a Wuxia that is not the standard 'weak-to-strong swordsman fighting the sects and ascending to godhood', definitely give this a read.

Pretty fantastic. The plot is well thought out and keeps a pretty consistent pace, which is the usual failing of Chinese and Japanese webnovels that try to stretch out for as long as possible. The game/system elements were very interesting, and I enjoyed all of the misdirects in the story. Highly recommend.

The premise seems super dumb, and I usually don't like novels that wholesale incorporate real-world properties (i.e., this story is entirely dependent on Diablo 2).

Still, it's pretty fun. The MC is a king who continuously swears and beats people, which is an interesting change from the usual 'fallen noble' or 'lucky loner' protagonists. I tried picking this one up previously and dropped it after ~100 chapters, but after trying again I found it very engaging.

It was enjoyable at the beginning, then slowly became pretty monotonous. I stopped immediately after guns were introduced; I have no interest in a classic Wuxia story that suddenly throws in guns after a few hundred chapters.

Starts as a nice, fluffy sort of love story. Lost interest after the heroine hinges her whole existence on another person liking her. The repeated statements "I'll kill myself if you say you don't return my affection" are a pretty terrible character trait.

I'm sure it'll eventually turn around, but... hard pass.
