This Way of Transmigration Is Definitely Wrong!

I've finished all 58 of the currently translated chapters. I love this kind of plot, but as I went on it grew increasingly unsatisfying. The author spends a lot of time repeating themselves, and the world-building is pretty spare (and it shows). The plot moves as slow as a glacier.

I think the most egregious part of this is the MC. I was not expecting a genius, but he grows increasingly dumber and childlike to the point where it is painful/embarrassing to read his actions and thoughts.

It's a shame because sometimes... more>> you can see areas where the novel can shine by actively leaning on the 4th wall or with humor.
Spoiler

The naming of the cat in chapter 43 is an excellent example of this.

Sadly, this is pretty rare.

The translation is pretty good quality. The translator did a pretty good job. Sadly the plot isn't up to par. <<less

I have to agree with @jl050503. The plot seems to be much more complex than what that other negative review has laid out. The MC is indeed now stuck playing an evil cannon fodder, but it was definitely not an intended situation.

What we've seen from the MC is interesting. As a younger son of a rich family, he's been used to being able to live as he pleased with the happy confidence that his older brother would inherit and take care of things. When... more>> he's unexpectedly thrown into the heir position, I sympathized. His father and the people around him want the kind of domineering character we see so often in Chinese novel MLs, but this guy's personality is not, and the father hates this so much that he's puts the MC to such extremes to try to force a personality change. I wonder if the novel will help address this, especially since the MC isn't playing the scenario's protag.

What's also a nice change is that, thus far, the MC and his system seem to be getting along! His system is legitimately helpful and, while the MC is bound to complete tasks and missions (now tied to the scum character he's playing), it's sympathetic and aims to support him! You don't see that very often. Of course, with starting off on such a wrong foot, I expect nothing the MC and his system plan will go as they intended.

As for the translation, I will say thus far it's been excellent. Few to no issues with spelling or grammar, nice flow, and easy and pleasant to read.

I love xianxia, and it looks like this novel will be full of some wonderful comedy and some hilarious misunderstandings as the MC and his system try to muddle through this mess. I'm especially looking forward to the Demon King's appearance, as in many of these kinds of transmigration stories, the ML is usually the world's protag.

I'm looking forward to see what happens next, and I hope others give it a shot. From the few chapters we have so far, it seems like it will be a fun ride. <<less

The Counterfeit Madam Hou

Not a bad start! The premise is a solid one: what begins as a switching of the brides is only the prelude to much deeper political and romantic intrigues. Du Juan has dived into something messy and she's only beginning to see that she's gotten into something complicated. Not helping is Xue Mu, the groom and gifted general who seems to really love her (or rather, the person she has replaced).

Xue Mu, the ML, is pretty interesting. He's definitely talented, but his affections are a clear weakness. It's a really... more>> nice change, as Du Juan, our FL, has to navigate these feelings while accomplishing her goals. Du Juan is okay as a heroine so far: she's clearly clever, though you have to wonder how far this ruse will go. The ML and Du Juan's cover had known each other since they were small, and Du Juan is not exactly the most subtle of women.

Thus far, there's been a lot of setup. I do hope we get some more action soon. Our heroine has been doing a lot of eating and wondering what's going on, and doing little on the con aspect of things. <<less

The translator did a good job, and I did like their asides throughout (though I can see where some might find it a turn-off).

Still, after reading a few chapters, I'll have to take a pass on this one. Me and this MC don't jive, sadly. I found her rather obnoxious.

Okay, this was a super fun ride, and it's probably the most fun I've had reading a historical C-novel.

I admit, I went into this with a few misgivings. I thought this would be a lot more melodramatic (as many historical C-novels tend to be), and that the main lead would be insufferable. Thankfully, this was not the case!

The main character is off-beat and not too-OP, and her ways of navigating both her husband and the harem are novel and hilarious to watch. Though I think, in the end, that main... more>> lead I was so worried about ended up becoming my favorite character. Watching him fall in love with the main character is a joy to watch, especially since you don't often see a C-novel emperor ML get humbled and pushed around like this. You could feel his affection and love toward the MC in the prose and it's just great!

So the characters are great, but I think in general the best aspect of the novel is its humor. You will end up laughing, if not at least once a chapter. The comedy is always beautifully set-up, whether its character-driven or situational. The author handles the politics of the court, the scheming of the harem, and the action of the war frontlines well, but it's their ability to not overly dwell on arcs and let things flow naturally that make for a tight story.

Overall, the translation quality isn't that bad. Errors recur here and there in each chapter, but it's nothing that would impede a reader from understanding what is meant.

All in all, I had a lot of fun reading this (binge read it over a week, actually) and I totally recommend it. <<less

Not a bad read at all! I was a little nervous considering the AV setting and the issue of the MC's debts, but thankfully everything's more or less consensual. Much of the drama really is in the MC's psyche, as he struggles to come to terms with his attraction to the ML, his s*xuality, and more. The ML is also quite cute, and though he pursues the MC, he's not yandere or anything like that. You really end up rooting for them a couple.

Also the smut was A+.

A shout-out to... more>> the translator as well. The prose was pretty fluid and there were very few mistakes, all minor and non-impacting readability. They really did an excellent job, especially since s*x scenes can be pretty difficult. Kudos! <<less

I put off reading this one for awhile (figured it was overrated), but I bit the bullet and ended up really enjoying it. The translation was excellent, and a lot of the story arcs kept me engaged.

Which arcs were my favorite? Probably #3, 4, 7, 9, 14, and 15. I really loved #3, #7, and 15 -- I mostly because I love historical stories and the MC really turn things around in some interesting ways. Arc #9 was beautiful but wonderful in its tragedy, and #14 had a compelling "love... more>> rival" (note the quotes) and story. Some of the other arcs did lag far too long -- arcs #6 and #8 were just slogs to go through. I agree with other readers that the ending was pretty anticlimatic. After a lot of the heights of the previous arcs, it was rather banal.

Is the MC too OP? Well, yes. There's a sort of in-universe reason for it, however, and it does work here. MC might be OP, but it's fun to watch him twist a number of overdone tropes and love scenarios and just screw over the main villain. ML can be a bit one-dimensional, but not egregiously so.

Overall, a fine read. <<less

I really liked the beginning part of the novel. The FL was OP for sure, but in a super cool way, and it was interesting to see how she clashed with the ML. Funnily enough, I thought the whole sword thing was the weakest element of the story. It really limited the romance possibilities in terms of plot, in my opinion. However, after the change in translators around chapter 9, I couldn't read on. The translation quality just wasn't that great and reads too awkwardly for smooth reading.

Rebirth: Noble Woman, Poisonous Concubine

The novel is alright. It's definitely one of the better translated novels in this genre.

Even so, I'm dropping this one. The MC's change in personality is rather drastic, and rather than domineering she comes off as rather annoying. The novel also says that she's ten years old. It's a bit much. The ML seems like a really interesting guy, especially since he's not a prince, but it's kind of ruined since he falls in love with her at first sight and proceeds to help her out with all of her... more>> problems.

I really liked where the author is setting things up. The plot against the MC by her fiance and her sister? Very well done! The tense family dynamics, and the MC's badass grandmother, were excellently set up. It's a shame, for me, that the main characters aren't captivating enough to go along with this plot to keep my interest. <<less
