Destined Marriage with Fragrance
September 2, 2017
Status: Completed
This novel was penned by the same author of the A Mistaken Marriage Match series. Overall, I like the story and accept the ending. A number of plot changes differentiate this from the usual stories of the same genre.

Spoiler

Some of the plot changes:

  • The MC's past life was a happy one. She had a loving family.
  • The MC was still wearing the mystical bracelet from the modern world when her soul transmigrated to the ancient world. She often wondered how to use the bracelet to return.
  • The MC doesn't have past memories of the host at all. The story of her present life starts 3 years after the transmigration.
  • The MC and ML are betrothed via arrangement. The ML visits the MC (he had not seen her for 3 years as he's a general stationed far away) on the way back to the Imperial Capital to break off the engagement, and the MC graciously agrees as she has no past memory of the ML. As an act of goodwill, the MC invites the ML and his male friend to stay for a few days to attend a number of events and to sight-see.
  • The ML becomes curious and interested as to the changes in the MC, and tries to get closer to figure her out. The ML soon regrets breaking off the engagement, and before leaving asks the MC to marry him.
  • Smart MC makes the ML grovel for many chapters afterwards.

There are still others which I won't mention.

Whether this is a HE depends on how one would interpret the sacrifices made by both the MC and the ML to obtain their happy ending. I would have preferred it if they didn't have to take such drastic actions, but understand that it was the only way to be free under the circumstances.

First read the English translations until chapter 30, then braved through the raws to complete it.

At 171 chapters total, CFM can be considered a very short read compared to many other similar novels that run at a marathon pace. Plus, it's a HE.

Wei Lou goes through harrowing experiences in her past life and dies at the age of 15. After being reborn as her 6-year old self, she tries to change her fate, but what can a little girl do? Covertly trying to seek the help of then 15-year old Zhao Jie by grabbing his attention in a most permanent way, this starts the chain of events that bring them together.

I like how smart the MC is and how devoted the ML is. By far my favourite novel. <<less

A Mistaken Marriage Match: Mysteries in the Imperial Harem
September 1, 2017
Status: Completed
This is the third and my least favourite novel among the original series.

Spoiler

The original series tells the story of 3 sisters from Hao Yue whose parents were murdered, clearing the way for mercenaries to forcibly transport them to Qiong Yue as gifts to 3 prominent men. As tributes the sisters are downgraded to concubine status, disabling them from ever becoming wives.

While taking shelter from the rain, the sisters decide to disfigure their faces and commit suicide to escape their fate. The mercenaries attempt to save them. Eldest sister Qing Ling and youngest sister Qing Mo die, (the souls of modern- day Forensic Investigator Zhuo Qing and Captain Gu Yun transmigrate into their bodies), while second sister Qing Feng survives.

The sisters are drugged unconscious the rest of the way, causing a major plot twist which would explain the first part of the title.

Each novel covers one sister's POV:

  1. A Mistaken Marriage Match: A Record of Washed Grievances (plot twist)
  2. A Mistaken Marriage Match: A Generation of Military Counselors (youngest sister Qing Mo / Captain Gu Yun)
  3. A Mistaken Marriage Match: Mysteries in the Imperial Harem (plot twist)

The reason this is my least favourite is primarily due to the ML. As the Emperor he causes the MC to go through a lot of suffering and only redeems himself around 3/4 of the novel. The MC is the strongest among the sisters in how she survives within the Imperial Palace and eventually wins the Emperor's devoted love.

Love Me Again

I like completely translated stories that have a HE; they are fulfilling to read. Short stories even more so; they are a breeze to finish. This novel meets both.

A solid favourite. Oh man, the feels..... and the smut. *nosebleed*

When He Comes, Close Your Eyes
August 31, 2017
Status: Completed
Being able to read a completely translated novel with a HE is such a delight.

I like all of the author's translated works so far and have watched most of the TV shows based on them. Ding Mo is a screenwriter by profession and it reflects in the way her stories flow.

This novel is my favourite and the only one that is completely translated. The translations for Don't Turn From Summer, Memory Lost, and When A Snail Falls In Love are ongoing. A Glamorous Time seems to have been dropped; hope... more>> someone picks it up again. Her other works have not been translated.

Common theme:

  • Happy ending.
  • Male lead is devoted to the female lead.
  • Both male and female leads are good at what they do.
  • They end up working together one way or another.
  • Suspense/thriller included.
