Definitely a book worth reading, the MC is evil, calculative and badass. Well, He's Also Evil... Very Evil

He's done stuff like:... more>>
Spoiler

make a Bear eat a girl to advance in cultivation.

[collapse]

So if you're not comfortable with MC being a selfish and evil prick, this novel might not be for you

And he actually uses his intellect from past life to help himself in his current life, since he knows stuff that happens only in the future. Every change in his personality is for a reason, and nothing he does isn't without one.

This isn't a stereotypical Xianxia, so you won't find stuff like arrogant characters hating the MC for no rhyme or reason. The translation is good, I haven't found errors in grammar and the like. Stuff actually makes sense and there are reference notes at the end of chapters too.

The Cultivation system in this world is unique. It is somewhat similar to Pokemon I'd say, With Gu's (they are basically insects however at times they are different animals too) being able to fuse and evolve. There basically 9 Ranks for Gus and Gu Masters each. Gu Masters, however, have each rank divided into four parts. Namely Initial Stage, Middle Stage, Upper Stage and Peak Stage. Each having slightly different colour of Primeval Essence (basically Qi)

The Worldbuilding is good, you aren't introduced to much at the beginning, but you know what you need to know when you need to know it. This world doesn't seem to have different realms and most of the things have happened on the same continent (at least as far as I have read it).

A bonus thing to look out for are each book's ends. Because they always end with insane twists and a big bang.

AND LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST,

I haven't experienced cliches at all (it might just be me but still!).

One thing I really like about the novel
Spoiler

Is what the author did with Bai Ningbing 10/10 for that 馃槀 馃ぃ

One thing I didn't like
Spoiler

Author kinda f**ked up the names of two people at Chapter 160ish but the Translators have taken care of it seems so thumbs up to them for that 馃憤

[collapse]

TL; DR

A must-read novel for those who like Evil MCs (not Anti-Hero MCs, EVIL MCs) and a nice change from the usual Xianxias too.

PS: I very much liked what happened with Bai Ningbing (汀掳 蜏蕱 汀掳) (汀掳 蜏蕱 汀掳) <<less

So, If you're gonna read this novel you have to expect:

    • An unflexible MC who is very stuck up on what he is doing
    • WAY TOO MANY CLOSE TO DEATH FIGHTS. So many that the novel is literally filled with them all the time 70% of the fights are just the MC closely pulling off victories and the rest 30% is the MC taking revenge on antagonists from previous arcs... No matter how powerful the MC's gotten he will always find some idiot who is stronger than him (usually an old man) trying to kill him for one reason or another. ALWAYS.
    • Old Farts... Yes a sh*t ton of them. Most of the time they will be trying to kill the MC.
    • Almost non-existent romance until 1000 chapters
    • A rather interesting plot
Why do I read it despite ranting about all the stuff above? Its current story/plot. It's different, interesting even. The world building is okay, as of the chapter I am reding MC is near the "apex" of the current world's cultivators. He will most probably leave for another stronger world after this. And I wanna see how it folds out.

It's best to ignore the reviews given by those who haven't read atleast 280+ chapters... The best part and his personality start to shine after that, especially his wits... Also for those who want a pure and righteous MC, it's best you don't read this novel. This stuff isn't for your taste! It also has already been specified in that tags that the MC is evil, so don't go on complaining on how evil he can be at times... His character is absolutely ruthless different from the usual "ruthlessness", he's... more>> someone who calculates his profits and losses before making a move. And damn those plot twists in his Twilight Region Arc are absolutely amazing! The only problem I found was that he isn't exactly emotionally attached to his other lovers... The rest is amazing!

EDIT: I'll be frank here, the ending is really rushed... A lot of character buildup was just brushed to the side to finish this novel. I really dont get it... why do chinese authors try to increase the word count of a chapter so much if they're gonna rush the end of the novel? Anyways yeah, in my opinion the novel goes downhill (because of the rushing yea) after

There's literally only one way to describe the MC...

Invincible

That's also how the rest of the story goes...

So... If you wanna read some serious face-smacking, read it.

The plot? what is that?

The only thing you gotta know is Invincable (It's a pun only select few get)

well too quick to review it but, since there's a lack of reviews in total I'd like to say that I very much like how the LN is. It's a lot different than the normal romcoms imo. With the otaku MC actually trying to become a normie by overcoming the anxieties normally faced by an otaku in general.

The first few arcs are good with variety and plot in them...

Rest is a rinse and repeat story of a hypocrite

Harem? You'll ask yourself this every new arc: "Is this new girl gonna fall for out MC?" And the answer will always be:

NO

Spoiler

The harem will never grow after you've confirmed that MC likes 3 girls which around the time he's mid-level in the first continent, the rest of the women are just side bitches who will most probably be ignored later in the story after the MC becomes way too OP compared to them

[collapse]

Plot? Like I said above the first few arcs are good the rest is just "The adventures of a hypocrite"

Should you read it? Yes and No.

If you wanna read it, read till he leaves the first continent; the rest is too much hypocrisy for anyone to handle... The only reason you have to read it after that is because:

  1. You (for whatever reason) like MGA.
  2. You wanna know what happened to

I really hope this story gets the attention it deserves, It's from the same author who wrote Everlasting Immortal Firmament, and it delivers (tho this came out before EIF).

The problem this had is that the translations I've read were subpar. This might've actually caused people to drop it. And I hope it get's picked up by someone more serious.

The start of the novel is a usual comedy novel with nothing really much in it...

But the story starts changing/shifting into a serious narrative where he experiences some serious sh*t and he gets d*cked on by most of the enemies he starts meeting later. Atleast till the point where I've read.

It's story is like I said above pretty generic at the beginning with some serious twists happening after. It does enough to keep me interested in the story, but nothing exceptional. I read this most of the time for its... more>> face-smacking, not story/plot

The villains are mostly all generic except a key few

Spoiler

and one of them who is especially smart just becomes a retarded later on like the rest of them unfortunately

[collapse]

The harem is okay, the girls mostly just fall for him for no reason. The author explains it as:

"Karmic relations from his past life"

[collapse]
which doesn't sound ridiculous in novels like these for me anymore.

MC is straight out irresponsible for his harem. To the point where he doesn't even go trying to understand what's happened to one of his girlfriends after she seems stressed out by something.

I actually liked this novel because of its face-smacking elements and how casual the story was, and it is gonna take me some time to adjust to that change until then it's still gonna be a 3.5/5 for me. I might change this after reading more... <<less

I don't want to review anything about the story as of yet since I still haven't read till ch500.

All in all, it's worth a read if you can ignore inconsistencies during the start

EDIT after 500:

So, It's a good story if you're not gonna critique everything. It has its fill of cliches, that I won't deny. But there are quite a few twists in it too. Enough to keep me interested in the story.

Romance is bleak. Very Bleak. So far, only two love interests have been confirmed by me. The rest are all women who're most likely gonna be forgotten after the arc passes.

Worldbuilding is still good. It makes sense for me. The story as of yet seems to be based on a single planet on different continents.

Tournaments arcs are a thing here, but not every arc is filled with them. There's also inheritances, a sh*t ton of them. MC doesn't get all nor does he try to. His skills are not all like Sharingan skills unlike what people keep on saying, they might have been influenced by some of them, however.

MC is pretty bland most of the time. He does control the overall situation most of the times. He does face some close-fights at times tho.

There are quite a few typos in the translation, however. (I would be glad if you report them after finding them, since it makes the experience for people who read it after you better)

All in all, I find it a good read. something that you can read if you in for casual binging... <<less

It's a hidden gem if you ask me.

It's got a rare yet kinda generic start to it, but it builds up over time. Romance is... weird, to say the least, but nothing like Oh I'm a princess from birth nobody has dared to say no to me, so why does he, and why do I feel weird when he does, fortunately. There's a few generic stuff included here and there but most of it seems new to me even after all the time this novel's been out. Overall, I'd... more>> say give it a read and check Mr Tao's review for the link of the first 160 chapters. <<less

You're hard to come by a Japanese as good as this in what it chooses to do. It's just that the MC is so dumb it ticks me off. Enough to make me drop the novel. This however, is just my opinion, I'll still recommend this to anyone looking for a light comedy novel and time to spare.

A Monster Who Levels Up
November 25, 2018
Status: Completed
It had a good beginning and the middle part was promising, shame the end f**ked it all up.

The character reactions started feeling forced, too selfish at times and unjust even.

The story isn't even concluded properly with a very weird plot twist which leaves to an open ending. This weird plot seemed way too sudden and unexpected in a bad way. Like, the author could've clearly avoided it, or done better. But no. He did what he did...

The harem well... for whatever Hazeline did to *minor spoiler* (check spoiler tab to... more>> know who it is), she suffers way too much. What makes it worse is the fact that the reason behind it isn't even explained. So you're always left hanging for why it even happens and feel it out to be unjust. And it's not just the *minor spoiler* who makes her "suffer" the rest of his harem is a part of it.

The MC is bland for the start of the novel and starts gaining a personality at the end, something good imo.

I kinda abhor what they did with Bathory, even after all the pain the MC went through when he confronted her, they join hands and almost act like nothing happened

But, I still liked the novel, the last part excluded. so, 3/5.

But as much chapters as I've read, judging it doesn't do any justice. I've read next to nothing and know next to nothing of the story.

Won't rate it for too few chapters to do so... But for now it does seem interesting, starts with a pretty heavy situation wherein the previous AI a.k.a. Ajax has been somehow erased and is replace by the MC's instead, the battleship is being attacked by 5 different battleships with fully functioning weaponry and complete personnel, while the MC's is nearly destroyed...

Absolutely amazing!

I am one of those people who mostly hates/has bad impression of everything I don't see. This was one of them but I compelled myself to read it after looking at the reviews (what gave the final push was reading Jiang Ye's Manhua though). And I have to say I don't regret it one bit! The story is amazing with all the character developments and story pacing (Though it's rather on the slow side). The MC is basically a cripple who has no chance of cultivating, and can't... more>> live past the age of 20 (Knowing this doesn't spoil anything as you'll get to know this pretty early). And no he doesn't gain any ancient artifact or some old geezer to help him start cultivate he does it by himself using his knowledge and a little good fortune. The romance is introduced very very late into the series and the relationship between MC and his romance interest isn't your stereotypical cliche of how he saves her and she instantly falls for him or something. Each and every characters have their own sentiments, goals and thoughts (including the villains) unlike the "I don't like your face so I'm gonna kill you" or " You dare touch/flirt with my woman (misunderstandings and while the girl being single) " or like " How dare you interfere with my matters!!" cannon fodders. And the MC himself isn't the common Arrogant guy who looks down on the world, he instead is a very calm and calculative guy who would take a step back to jump instead of blatantly moving ahead and ignoring all the warnings. Though the start may be a little confusing since a lot of the characters are introduced in a few chapters (when they are that is...). The novel becomes good after he gets into an academy though.

Mild Spoilers: (Well just the outline of the story which covers a few of the starting chapters... Around 10 I guess)

Spoiler

The MC is the junior disciple of a Recluse called Daoist Ji who makes them imprint the 3000 books of the Way into their mind (which helps him a loooot in the future). He actually goes to the capital of Zhou (name of a country) to annul his engagement with a girl that was decided by her (the bride's) grandfather and try to change his fate.

[collapse]

All in all it's a Novel worth putting your time into... (As of chapter 521 atleast) <<less
